I know I asked that K&T question, but I couldn't recall its answer!

(1) How many of you were off your heads on E dancing to these tunes at raves/clubs in the late 80's/early 90's/whenever and how many of you have since assimilated those now sanctified tracks into your sonic vocabulary via Reynolds or whoever? In parenthesis, when I listen to "Energy Flash" straight it sounds a bit DULL to my ears, however, when I take an E the theme tune to Rainbow sounds ineffably cosmic.

(2) Do you still like them when you're NOT off your head and dancing in a rave/club?

(3) If you ARE still out there dancing and getting out of your heads, can you recomend me some wicked DJs/Artists/whatever? Please?! Where and who is the cutting edge you funky people!

Educate me.

I recall when someone released a rave version of that Rainbow theme tune! Part of that "Kiddie Techno" era featuring versions of Trumpton, Rainbow, Sesame Street, Aphex Twin's Pac-Man tune, etc. etc.

(2) I like them for the same reasons, and also because nostalgia is creeping in with regard to that era.

(3) I don't know because I have even less interest in clubs and drugs than I had then. And I no longer listen to new stuff so obsessively.

But as for singling out "Get Ready for This" as 2 Unlimited's finest work, well, a million cheerleaders can't be wrong.

As for the tracks themselves I have no idea, the piano sounds like it's been chopped up from Sonz of a Loop da Loop Era, and that wailing at the end is definitely Loleatta Holloway (the Black Box "Love Sensation" sample-ee).

Did you know the sample was taken from raï classic N'sel Fik by Sahraoui & Fadela from 1986? I didn't, until I came across this compilation last year...

You read that right! The legendary first single which was deleted shortly after its release and never made available again until now. The 12” reissue also features two other rare songs, ‘We Gonna Rock’ and ‘Android’ as well as the original version of ‘Everybody In The Place’.

LIQUID Sweet Harmony
XLXV 1503 (originally issued as XLT 28 in 1992)
After borrowing some money from a friend to put out the first Liquid record, Eamon Downes hit the top with 'Sweet Harmony', a No. 15 UK chart hit. Despite several other strong records, Liquid are still best remembered for this piano driven rave classic.

XLXV 1505 (originally issued as XLT 18 in 1991)
The late Lee Newman and Michael Wells formed Greater Than One in London, circa 1985. The group was created to explore art through performance, recordings and installations. In 1990, they started releasing singles as GTO (because it was easier to spell) and Tricky Disco (to explore more techno and house music). As the rave scene of 1991 exploded, Newman and Wells started releasing singles as John + Julie, Church of Extacy and Signs of Chaos. They would also later release albums and singles as TD5, The Salami Brothers, and Technohead.

XLXV 1502 (originally issued as XLT 44 in 1992)
Jonny L debuted with straightahead rave staples like “Hurt U So’ and ‘Ooh! I Like It’ before returning to his hardcore breakbeat origins with highlights of 1997 in the drum'n'bass arena with the 1997 ‘Piper’ single and ‘Sawtooth’ LP.

SL2 DJ’s Take Control
XLXV 1504 (originally released as XLT 24 in 1991)
The first of three successful singles released on XL by DJ’s Slipmatt and Lime. Originally released on the bands’ Awesome label, this track was later re-issued on XL and reached No. 11 in the UK charts. This wasn’t their only foray as ‘On A Ragga Tip’ scored them an amazing No. 2 position and ‘Way In My Brain’ reached No. 26.

There's more to follow over the next three months from the likes of Junior Vasquez, Tommy Musto, Lenny D, Moby and, of course, more from The Prodigy.

Okay apparently not (or at least Lenny Dee's bio makes no mention of it.) I've been belaboring under this misapprehension for years haha

I've only ever heard it on a pirates tape from about 1994, it's a pretty stripped down "darkside" tune, with two main samples from the film Candyman - one is the "I hear you're looking for the candyman, bitch" quote and the other is a sample of a woman screaming, which is looped over the bassline for most of the track. Have had a good dig around in Discogs etc, but cannot find anything which fits the bill. Any ideas?

lyrics are something like:

"Come with me
tonight's the night
can't you see i'm gonna be with you
...
I aint gonna wait no more"
