'Cuz I really want to see 'em.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Murphy played a solo show here in Seattle right after and closed the Cochella set with the words "now you can say you were there", so I'm led to believe that they won't be doing a regular tour.

Anthony Lombardi (CCPO), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Shucks.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Haha, I saw Murphy walking around at Coachella and he looked alright too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 9 July 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

I couldn't go see Peter Murphy because my mom wouldn't let me :(

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 9 July 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry. I decided not to go because it was on a weeknight & I had to work the next day. At least you get to blame your mom...me, I have only myself to blame.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 9 July 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh my God! I have never seen this band and will not miss this show. Saturday Night in Hollywood has my name written all over it.

Good info like always ILM.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 24 July 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Fantastic news if they are. Saw them when they reformed for a few dates in ('98? '99?) and they were every bit as magic as I'd remembered them being the first time 'round. Couldn't understand why they only did so few dates then.

I know! Kaliflwr in NYC just emailed me excitedly about this, this morning!

Come on, play in London! I promised to fly her to the UK to see them with me.

Wow, though. David J hasn't changed in 20 years. He was my first indie pop star crush.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 12 August 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

I must look into these shows.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 August 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Nedmond, I must counsel you in the strongest possible terms, that you should not merely "look into these shows" you should most definitely attend at least one of them!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 12 August 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

*bows* Good sir, I caught the 1998 reunion tour four times. If anything I am afeared that these new shows just can't live up to those, but based on the reports of Coachella I apparently shouldn't fret at all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 August 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

My humble and abject apologies for having ever doubted your bona fides, Nedward.

Having seen the original incarnation quite a few times I had similar reservations myself regarding the 1998 reunion - but having been lucky enough to see them then; and finding that my fears were proved groundless on that occasion; I would certainly not presume to doubt them again.

I don't know why I ever doubted them at all to be honest - after all, it's not as if they're going to grow old or anything, is it?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 12 August 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

maybe by sleeping in my '98 tour t-shirt for twenty days straight made this tour happen!

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 12 August 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

i might get to see the ny shows for free! maybe. i hope, anyways.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 12 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Just can't seem to summon up the enthusiasm for this. The '98 reunion was great, a wonderful once-in-lifetime thing. I don't feel the need for another.

The Spiderwebbed Wilderness (Bimble...), Friday, 12 August 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

My father saw the '98 reunion in Philadelphia. I'm tempted to go to the Atlanta one, since I actually know people there I can stay with who might be interested in going.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 21 October 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

quick thoughts on tonight's show.. this is NOT the typical 1998 reunion show part 2... noooo..

they're definitely trying things they didn't try before.. they're also not doing things they did do in 1998 as well...

they still do certain songs of course, but also some songs they haven't played so often during the 1998 shows. They're not pretending they're resurrected like they did in 1998, since they could get away with it then...

it was a great show. There's just a different balance and vibe with the band this time than during 1998, that's all. Also this is only the third North American date so far, and the first U.S. date..

the Portland people will surely chime in, as will the Caligoths.

iDonut B4 x86 (donut), Saturday, 22 October 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

Got my tickets for Glasgow. Been waiting for this a long time.

Soukesian, Saturday, 22 October 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

Good to hear this report -- if they had just replicated 1998 then while enjoyable it wouldn't have had much point, but Peter M. had mentioned wanting to do things differently all around, and I'm glad to hear that they are. Nice!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 22 October 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

"Flowers, bunnies and kittens."

Well: wreaths; bunnies suffering long, slow and agonisingly painful and unnecesarily protracted deaths; and kittens being ritually disembowelled as sacrificial offerings to pagan deities.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Saturday, 22 October 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

This is Bauhaus....not that Skinny Doggie band.

iDonut B4 x86 (donut), Saturday, 22 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Dude, Skinny Houndie are like sooo L.A. now.

iDonut B4 x86 (donut), Saturday, 22 October 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Also, I can't stress this enough.. GET THERE WHEN DOORS OPEN!

Doors opened last night at 8pm.

Bauhaus started at 8:15pm.

This won't be like the 60-to-90-minute-wait-with-no-opener thing that they did on the last tour.

iDonut B4 x86 (donut), Saturday, 22 October 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

okay....

they are coming back to SF for Halloween. I'm seeing them on Tuesday anyway. Having not seen Tuesday yet, should I shell out another $100 for two tickets to see them on Halloween next week? Tell me what to do.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 24 October 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

well I bought them anyway so it better not disappoint

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 24 October 2005 06:08 (twenty years ago)

thoroughly enjoyable, EXCEPT for the people I know who went five years ago telling me how much better it was then (there is NO stage show this time, no light bulbs, no projection screens), so I felt like I'd missed something better. Still though, great.

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 05:47 (twenty years ago)

Oh! My! God!!!!

I'm going to see Bauhaus at the Brixton Academy next February! Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah!

I've bought two tickets cause I'm trying to persuade Kaliflwr to fly to the UK to come with me!!

I'm too excited for words - I feel like a teenager again!

Atheist of Love (kate), Friday, 28 October 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

What's up with the Moiphy's hair? Has it gone white through age, or has he been hitting the peroxide again?

Atheist of Love (kate), Friday, 28 October 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Got tickets for the Nov. 7th show here in Mpls...very very excited.

Is he really being lowered the to the stage hung from his feet like a bat? I heard that rumor. Man that would be freakin' awesome!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

he didn't do that this week.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

i thought they sounded great on wednesday night with two encores and lots of obscure album cuts played. that said, i'm not sure what the typical bauhaus show is like these days so maybe they always play the "obscure" stuff. the last half of the show was particularly tight, but the first half was no snoozer. it seems like they are still taking chances this far on and that the chances largely work. i didn't know what to expect and i was happy that i didn't get a show that was simply the hits. daniel ash had some awesome wrap-around shades on.

tricky (disco stu), Friday, 28 October 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

did he wear a ridiculous leather outfit on wednesday too?

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

yes, he was every piece the dark-n-glam guitar messiah.

tricky (disco stu), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Good, good. (I will otherwise be avoiding this thread until Sunday or so to keep some surprises, but if you'll be at the LA show tomorrow night, drop me a line via e-mail!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 October 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

my thoughts on the tuesday show in SF, as compared to Resurrection Tour '99 or whenever in Detroit, was that this one was *pretty* good, but not great. i thought the first 30 mins were a bit slow and maybe even a little sloppy. the rest was quite good, as were the two encores (no shockers in the encore set lists), but really no stage show to speak of. i think murph's back on the peroxide, and, naturally, bad looking poet-y blouses. his voice sounded great tho.

ken taylrr never her (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 October 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't want Murph in anything but leather and/or wierd blouses!

I'm soooo stoked for this...man, I haven't really listened to Bauhaus in ages, and I'm starting to remember how much I loved/love them in anticpation of the show...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 28 October 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 28 October 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

I was kind of hoping they'd play No New Tale To Tell in the encore just for the fuck of it (I knew they wouldn't but a person can dream).

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 28 October 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe I just spent $125 (incl service charges) for two Bauhaus tickets. That said, I am crazy excited.

adam (adam), Sunday, 30 October 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

Set list above was more or less the set-list last night -- the main set was the same, then three encores:

Double Dare

---

Slice of Life
Telegram Sam
Ziggy Stardust

---

Bela Lugosi's Dead

Very good performance, definitely a different energy than 98 -- less frenetic, an easier feel without being slow or tired, if that makes sense. Peter gliding about on stage more instead of thrashing and belting out the words, etc. -- I'd chalk it up to just being a bit older and calmer for them all in general. Everyone was on, though, Peter sounded excellent, Danny's voice fun to hear again, nice getting a few songs that weren't played in 98, etc.

They were doing the 'instant live post-show CD' thing for this one and presumably other nights on the tour so you'll be able to hear these shows via slsk and the like soon enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 30 October 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

::bounces::

OK, I'm really excited now!

FAP, yes, definitely.

I wouldn't want Murph in anything but leather and/or wierd blouses!

Well, 20 years ago, I'd have said I wanted Murph in that... erm... amazing wedgiewear thing that he used to cavort around in, but I suspect that would be a bit mutton dressed as bat.

We might force K8 to change her name to Marie. (kate), Monday, 31 October 2005 10:37 (twenty years ago)

if anyone needs tickets to the SF show tonight, email me, I have two I can't use.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 31 October 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Saw them in Mpls on Monday nite...great!

Most underrated rhythm section of the yee post punk era...David J is an amazing bassist. they were dead tight.

Ash dressed like a touring member of NIN circa 97.

Murphy was pretty subdued, but man can he still hit the notes or what?

Great great setlist...favorites plus "true fan" more obscure tracks!

Honestly, the rocked a fuck of a lot harder than the Gang of Four reuinion I saw awhile back. I have a whole new appreciation for the 'haus....much more of a post-punk skronky affair live....

Haha, they must pay homage to the birthstone of goth every tour, don't they.

do knut (donut), Thursday, 17 November 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Judging from the O.C. tour-closer last time, this will likely be the best show of the entire tour by a long shot.

do knut (donut), Thursday, 17 November 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

All I can say is it's nice that they're playing a venue that all I have to do is get the all night bus line back from when they're done. And on a Friday too! So convenient.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 November 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

i'm still bummed that they didn't have any kind of stage show the way the last tour apparently did. I feel like I got ripped! even though I thoroughly enjoyed it.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 18 November 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

Er? About the closest they did to a stage show last time were a couple of costume changes on Peter's part and an admittedly neat light sequence for "Hollow Hills."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
Anyway, just saw them again tonight in OC -- perhaps it's a sign of my own impending creakiness, but I for one appreciate any band that dispenses with an opening act, starts almost exactly on time and is done before 10 pm.

And as much as I enjoyed the LA show, I think this one topped it -- nearly the same set but a different set of encores (first "Bela," then the Bolan/Bowie combination), but Peter looked better -- he shaved off that slightly iffy beard/mustache he's been trying all this year and looked far more elegant as a result -- and Daniel ditched the sunglasses for the most part, and seeing his eyes added a surprising emotion to the performance, for lack of a better term. David J was still behind his sunglasses, of course, so no change there.

But I was very near front and center, sound was great and a couple of the performances were really gripping -- "Hair of the Dog" and, much to my surprise, "Bela" itself. I felt the performance in LA was perfunctory but this time everything clicked, the appearance of the band, the queasy, unsettled mix, the elegant appearance of everyone having changed stage costumes slightly. Nice. If that's where they're at when they hit Europe next month, y'all are in for a treat.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 December 2005 07:29 (twenty years ago)

For a sec there, my brain mis-scanned and I imagined them covering Narazeth's "Hair of the Dog."

Ian in Brooklyn, Saturday, 10 December 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Bauhaus were brilliant in Glasgow tonight. David Jay apologised for keeping us waiting 23 fucking years and promised not to do so again (see you in 2028 then). Not quite worth the wait but still superb. Not a flat moment in the entire show.

Peter apologised for his voice as it was only the 2nd night "last night it was really good, tonight it's excellent, but it's not perfect yet". Modest fucker eh? Daniel Ash is looking like Bono c.1992. Peter has a bald spot. Apart from that none of them seem to have aged in 20 odd years, and Peter is still throwing shapes that would make a younger spine than mine complain.

Set list almost identical to the lists upthread, with a couple of notable* exceptions (hopefully no errors here):

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 30 January 2006 01:35 (twenty years ago)

Pfft. "World tour", Murphy? WORLD TOUR? COME DOWN HERE AND SAY THAT YA SHITS!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 30 January 2006 03:34 (twenty years ago)

I was at Glasgow too. Awesome. Had forgotten quite how much I loved 'em.

Murphy on top form, carried off the receding hairline in style, looking like a dissipated aristocrat. Couldn't believe he got a lit fag chucked at him at the beginning of 'Bela . .' Thought he was about to walk off for a second. Why would someone pay a £20 ticket to do that?

Soukesian, Monday, 30 January 2006 08:15 (twenty years ago)

I was at Birmingham tonight. Absolutely fantastic. Not entirely sure about Murphy's re-appearance for the 2nd encore wearing a velvet smoking jacket (Cue Rob Newman "hello, little girl") quips, but otherwise marvellous.

Setlist pretty much as above, except the addition of Joy Divisions's "Transmission", complete with PM's "get that fly away from my head" spastic dancing at the end of the first encore.

"Dark Entries" was so heavy my friend suggested it could've been Ministry. London audiences, yer in for a treat.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Friday, 3 February 2006 01:57 (twenty years ago)

except the addition of Joy Divisions's "Transmission"

^$%@%$!#^$#!@^%#!%@#$%@#$!$#@!$@#!$#@!$@#

FUCK YOU LUCKY BASTARDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Anyway, I'm calm now.

No I'm not. FUCK YOU!

*coughs, settles down*

YSI immediately. Anyone. Anywhere.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

they did 'transmission' in dublin too apparently. i wonder why we weren't treated to it in glasgow? they also got two more encores in dublin but then, as you can't smoke there, it was unlikely pete murphy had a lit fag thrown at him and went in a strop.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 3 February 2006 02:10 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I always wondered what it would take to send Ned into spasm of Alex inNYC-style rage! And now I know ;)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 February 2006 02:23 (twenty years ago)

Well, it's not really rage per se. Just deep-seated envy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 02:26 (twenty years ago)

Envy? Pshaw. Embrace the rage, Ned. Join the dark side...

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 3 February 2006 03:05 (twenty years ago)

Somehow I feel Australian women are goading me on from around the globe. I have this hunch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Ned won't be satisfied until Bauhaus croons in his bedroom their entire discgraphy as well as all of Dead Can Dance's and Joy Division's and Siouxsie's. Limited seating: ticket price to be determined.

Dom iNut (donut), Friday, 3 February 2006 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Price: your ass. Er, wait, I'm confusing situations again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 03:16 (twenty years ago)

Is there something you're not telling us Ned? ;)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 February 2006 04:07 (twenty years ago)

My mind is an open book! Unfortunately most of the pages are black type on black paper.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 04:10 (twenty years ago)

And you call ME a goth. HUH! The nerve ;P

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 February 2006 06:21 (twenty years ago)

Silence, la belle dame sans merci.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 February 2006 06:38 (twenty years ago)

Blimey. Sorry about that Ned, I didn't realise it'd have that effect ;)

Si_C, Friday, 3 February 2006 09:33 (twenty years ago)

So, erm, tonight.

Doors say 7pm. Should we get there that early, if they really are going on when they say they're going on, or is that a Brixton Nonsense?

The Late Fear And The Potato Fear (kate), Friday, 3 February 2006 12:49 (twenty years ago)

At Birmingham the posters said Bauhaus on stage @ 8.30, which was just about correct.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Friday, 3 February 2006 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Hah, we got a Transmission / St Vitus Dance medley here in Brussels. Oh, and 'All we ever wanted', dedicated to all those who were at Plan K. Another fine day on this little earth...

YOU GOOD AND LOVELY PERSON.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 February 2006 01:03 (twenty years ago)

Suffice to say I am happy. That was pretty damned great.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 6 February 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Indeed. Thank you you lucky bastard!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 6 February 2006 01:42 (twenty years ago)

Wow thanks Si! That makes me feel better about totally missing out on this so called world tour :(

/nails hand to forehead ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 6 February 2006 02:02 (twenty years ago)

Si.C@rter - you rock!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 6 February 2006 05:25 (twenty years ago)

Yes! The Transmission/St. Vitus Dance mashup! That was the best thing ever!!!!

And "All We Ever Wanted" which reduced Suzy and I to blubbering babies. I didn't think I still had it in me to have a song make me cry.

It's been years since I listened to a Bauhaus record (they're all on vinyl, back at my mum's house) but still, years later, I know every song word for word. I didn't realise - or had forgotten - how much of a shaping influence they had been on my life. The in-jokes, the references, the aesthetic...

And the "costume malfunction" during Ziggy Stardust which turned into the BEST!!! THING!!!! EVAH!!!!

David J and his monster riff basslines. The man still hath no eyebrows and no lips to speak of, but the spotlights caught the back of his glasses and I managed to see his eyes. Once.

Uuuuhhhhhhh... yeah. And sorry, I can't stop saying this:

BOW TO ME, I AM THE PINEAPPLE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Press Rip And Give Me The MP3 Out Of It (kate), Monday, 6 February 2006 11:24 (twenty years ago)

The whole Glasgow show is up on dimeadozen.

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Monday, 6 February 2006 23:01 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for sharing 'Transmission/St.Vitus' Dance, Si! Wow! You beautiful bastard!!

Yes! The Transmission/St. Vitus Dance mashup! That was the best thing ever!!!!

Si.C@rter - you rock!

The power of ILM is astonishing yet again...many, many thanks!

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 11:05 (twenty years ago)

I can't register for dimeadozen because they already have 75000 (or whatever arbitrary figure it was) users.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 11:12 (twenty years ago)

The whole Glasgow show is up on dimeadozen.

I'm sharing it on slsk now - user name Pwn66. The MP3's are converted from FLAC and might need a bit of EQ-ing.

Hello, what's this?

Lotta Continua (Damian), Thursday, 16 March 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I didn't know which one to revive either, so I picked the other one. :-)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 16 March 2006 14:17 (twenty years ago)

Understood. Ned spotted it quickly enough anyway :).

I missed them last year because they were performing on Thanksgiving, and I'll miss them this year because I'm having surgery the week before they perform. WILL I EVER SEE BAUHAUS LIVE? :(

Heheh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 01:25 (twenty years ago)

it appears that the only night of their leg of the tour that they are NOT playing is the one i was planning on going to (portland, me).

thanks, fellas. trent is not enough of a draw for me to go, though my inner fifteen year old is screaming at me.

Emily B (Emily B), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 03:29 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
Saw them yesterday in Lokeren (Belgium, 10 day festival), just after The Cramps, dunno, I was a little underwhelmed by both.

Bauhaus only played for about an hour, ten minutes of which they weren't on stage ("we've lost a lot of the power here on stage, we'll be back when it's fixed. if not, goodnight." For the encore, David said they were playing the last two songs to make up for the delay (and that they were probably playing them for the last time ever) - it was Telegram Sam and Ziggy Stardust.

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 10 August 2006 07:28 (nineteen years ago)

(the links are to the gallery page of the festival, pictures taken last night)

StanM (StanM), Thursday, 10 August 2006 07:29 (nineteen years ago)

You didn't go to see them at the AB earlier this year? That was a very cool show.

Baaderonixx: the lost ILX years (baaderonixx), Thursday, 10 August 2006 07:37 (nineteen years ago)

No, I missed that. I'll get me the inevitable live DVD of this tour though, I wasn't _that_ underwhelmed.
