Some real time reactions perhaps, or is ILx in spending the afternoon in it's bedroom "thinking"?

elwisty (elwisty), Saturday, 2 July 2005 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

*that "to" should be "too" shouldn't it...

elwisty (elwisty), Saturday, 2 July 2005 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

No that "to" is ok.

dmun drive-in (dmun), Saturday, 2 July 2005 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

unless its followed by a fullstop and "Make Sardonic Comments..." is a new sentence.

dmun drive-in (dmun), Saturday, 2 July 2005 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

well bono just namechecked all the countries in the world, i wish he wasnt wearing his glasses today.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

I thought U2 were only meant to be doing one song?

It's going to overrun by about five hours, isn't it?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:13 (nineteen years ago)

everyones very smug i see, from the crowd to the artists. bono slipped in a bit of the beatles' blackbird aka 'africans, i am here to save you!'

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

please tell me he actually said that

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

I'm no fan, but I'd love it if Bono decides to play for about five hours before letting anyone else on the stage.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

Bono "9 thousand people die every day in Africa . . . . and I earn 9 GRAND a day . . . . ain't it cute? BUY I-POD"

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

He actually did.

Now playing: One. Nice version.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

he didnt, but he might as well have, he looked so pleased with himself. he just said a speech about africans dying from curable diseases and symptoms and that 'we can (or maybe it was we are going to) change that today'. i havent been paying attention to live 8 before today, but does anyone know what the ticket prices people paid for this event go towards?

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

The Princes Trust (for replacing Party In The Park), and operating costs...it's not a fundraiser although everybody seems confused…

carson dial (carson dial), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Oh dear God. Bono singing Unchained Melody. That really is too much. Anyone for tennis?

uptoeleven (uptoeleven), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

I wish he'd do Toto's "Africa"

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:25 (nineteen years ago)

I just started a long boring day of work. I believe I'll watch some of these videostreams on AOL.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

I feel like Big Brother!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:28 (nineteen years ago)

fuck, I can't get it to work! I want to help! I can't help if I can't watch!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha WTF DIE TOTEN HOSEN!!!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

if this creates awareness of the problems in africa thats great, but not all of africa is full of starving, shrivelled bodies of people who live in mudhuts you know (not that theres anything wrong with mudhuts of course), this whole thing smacks of a bunch of condescending westerners wanting to save 'the poor coloureds'. which actually, isnt that bad, if it pumps some money where its needed, but half of these artists dont seem to really care or know anything about the issues at hand. perhaps they dont need to know - theyre just here to 'convert' other people and make them aware, but its all just bollocks isnt it? when the gig is over, what is the point of all that awareness going to be? if people could donate some money somewhere, surely that would have been more useful, if only on a small level (or even if people had to pay for a ticket that went to charity etc). i mean, the leaders at the g8 summit, theyre hardly likely to watch this and change their minds, are they? surely they know people arent assembled at this event to relieve world debt but just to see these bands for free.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

what time is it in England? I didn't expect to deal with Coldplay so early.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

I really admire Chris Martin because he clearly doesn't care about how much of a tit he makes himself look.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

they keep cutting to Gwenyth (and Apple!)

oh and now Richard Ashcroft is joining them for Bittersweet Symphony

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

haha 'that's life - you're a slave to money then you die'

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

ashcroft sounds like hes going to burst out laughing any moment. i liked martin's intro for ashcroft and what appeared to be a complete lack of knowledge about the G8 summit.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno if they just showed ashcrofts wife but some woman in the audience looked like a hot french woman.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

Coldplay's pathetic attempt at "Rocking all over the world" has just made U2's "Unchained Melody" look brilliant. And I never thought Status Quo would seem so peerless.

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

meanwhile in Berlin they're watching Coldplay on the tube! Boo, I was excited to see what followed Die Toten Hosen.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Can we bet on what time it's going to start raining? I pick 4:30PM.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

it would be good if coldplay did a proper status quo cover with members of ver quo!

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

I saw one Toten Hosen song on Dutch television! Best so far.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

haha 'that's life - you're a slave to money then you die'

Would "Lucky Man" or, ahem, "The Drugs Don't Work" be more appropriate?

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'd rather see quo do a coldplay cover.

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

Do Coldplay always drag the tempo down? It's the first time I have seen them 'live'... It's hard to see how something so dreary could be popular. A mass taste for glum..

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

yeah when I hear their stuff on the radio I'm like "yeah I can see them doing OK" but live I just can't believe this bowl of porridge has sat atop our charts for three weeks.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

Oh they're speeding up now.. it's that slow ballad into fast(ish) rocker thing.

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

Radio Activity shirt on the drummer!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Odd that Franz Ferdinand are being used to plug all the gaps.. They're not playing are they?

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

nope, but they should be. at least they have a bit of energy

i would have liked to have seen jamelia at this thing, instead of the horrendous joss stone

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Mr. Coldplay Drummer wore a Kraftwerk shirt. So, points for that.

Xpost!

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Best bits so far:
1. Bono: "We are not looking for charity, we are looking for justice"
2. The official tagline - "this is your chance to make history by making poverty history"
3. Bono: "This is a rock n roll show"
4. Chris Martin: "this is the greatest thing that's ever been organized in the history of the world"
5. the funny status quo-bit

S.

Essdot, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:51 (nineteen years ago)

Does Germany have its own Dylan?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

somebody's waving a giant flag that says "(SOMETHING) NAZIS" on it!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

"theres a lot of very old bands here" - truest thing someone has said on this prog so far

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

The gaps between acts are huge. You'd think it would be slicker for such a huge event - revolving stage or something...

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

That woman who is looking forward to Annie Lennox should be fucking shot.

I can't believe these people. Is it that I'm incredibly out of touch, or are the general public really stupid?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

I have to admit Coldplay is better than German reggae.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

the crowd seem to be the thickest bunch ever, second only to the artists for sheer smugness - one guy said 'its about making poverty history, not the music'. of course it is, mate. theyre as full of themselves as martin, ashcroft and all the rest.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

will you people explain to me whose comedic stylings I'm enduring right now?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

theyre from the bbc2 comedy show little britain.

why does every artist that comes on stage have to hold their arms outstretched, martyr style?

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

ppp they are thick, but they have the vote, and money. Surely it's better if the masses of Britain actually give a shit about poverty? Should westerners just shut up and do nothing in case they come off as condescending?

Bodum, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

no, i said that it was definitely worthwhile if something good came out of it... its just a shame they have to be condescending about it.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Goddamn, Elton has one ugly-assed band.

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

Where is this proof that the audience cares about world hunger? It's not like people need a reason to watch Elton John do "The Bitch Is Back." A lot of people pay large amounts of money to do that and this is FREE!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

theyll go home at the end of the night patting themselves on the back while theyre totally off their fucking faces telling everyone how they did their bit for raising awareness. like fuck you did, you just turned up to see your fave capital radio/radio one rock faves turn up and do their hits, paid a bit of lip service, then went on with your life.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

that's all their supposed to do though. They've repeatedly been told Live8 does NOT want your money. Keep your money! Whatever you do, do NOT give it to us. Just your name! your face! Sit and watch rock bands and you are good!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

what, specifically, is condescending about it? Showing "starving, shrivelled bodies"? There are lots of starving people in Africa, that's the whole point. If they didn't appeal to pity, nobody would care, though it might be less harmful to the dignity of Africa if they downplayed its problems.

Bodum, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

haha yeah you really have to appeal to pity to get people to watch Coldplay and Elton John for free

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

man Elton John's set kicks ass!!!

PETE DOHERTY FOR A T REX COVER! Wooo!!!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

holy shit this guy is fucked up! the press doesn't lie.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

HAHAHA@pete from the libertines! i like babyshambles and he looks very cool and strung out and nicely made-up, but his voice is utterly shit. oh dear.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

The concert draws attention to appeals for pity, the result is that the electorate is more supportive of efforts to increase aid, make the world trade system fairer etc.

Bodum, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

right

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

agreed Pete Doherty is looking lovely but sounding about as flaky as Bolan would have probably been had he been here for this kind of gig.

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

What I liked was Jonathan Ross talking about the text petition that 300,000 people have signed up to, and Ross was like "And I'm sure that number will go up throughout the day". But when you consider five million people sent in texts for the concert tickets, it's rather low.

If fact, if you factor in those figures, out of all the people at the concert today, only about 750 would give more of a shit about "Make Poverty History" over seeing Coldplay and Pink Floyd.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

i think elton fancies pete. there is no other explanation. he looks better than everyone else whos performed today though. he looks like a star, unlike these other dullard plebs.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

LIVE 8 in Germany is coming from right bang in the middle of the capital by the famous Siegessaule (Victory Column). Crowds there can check out highlights including the indigenous charms of Herbert Gronemeyer and the international might of Green Day.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

First car crash moment, what an arse.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

miccio: do you do anything except whine like a little baby?

Lovelace (Lovelace), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

when did rockers get such utterly boring dress sense?! i mean, are these guys 50 or 25? (not talking about elton, paul mc, or er, 90% of the bill today obv.)

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

i laugh my ass off

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Duran Duran is on the global feed but for some reason it only gives me ongoing feeds of London and Berlin.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

ah, this link provides more shows.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

Sky News has just shown Baaba Maal performing in Edinburgh.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

Audioslave in Berlin

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

the guy from travis is talking about how africa isnt all starving kids, etc etc. which is nice to hear. xxxpost, to bodum, yes, lots of people in africa are starving, but its a huge continent full of smaller countries, but the image you get from these programs is as if its all one and the same. i dont like the representation.

geldof is giving a speech. bill gates is on now, because microsoft need some promotion.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

Tom Morello is reading a statement

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

i don't think i'll ever understand what people see in Pete Doherty.

zappi (joni), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

the libertines had a few spiky songs......

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

dido actually has a bit of power in her voice it seems, live. shame the material is so muted though. probably helps that she looks good, too.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Youssou N'dour really should be doing the Eminem part.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

And in Berlin Audioslave is sucking ass

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Jesus, Britain really is a nation of ugly, ugly people. They should be more selective with the crowd shots.

Bodum, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

omg I think they might be doing an RATM cover. The sound is horrible but Cornell is shrieking De La Rocha style instead of singing. This is awful.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

it would be good if youssou ndor sung something other than the word 'africa'.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

This is all a sign...for me to leave for a few hours. (I'll miss the Cure set but it'll surface elsewhere.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

Chris Cornell is yelling "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" repeatedly

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

this is obv very inappropriate since this is live 8 etc etc but i think i want to do bad things to dido.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

Haven't The Cure pulled out?

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

sex is beautiful and a celebration of life. like live8. so fantasize without shame.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

honestly, the johannesburg event looks like its the most interesting musically - all these other postrels and rock dullards, i hear all the time.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

OMG, something is wrong when the stereophonics are the most lively thing on the bill so far (apart from the bitch is back that is)!

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

this "Dakota" song really is fun

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

theyre the only band that seem like they are really trying to make an impression.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

they just showed thomas mapfumo at the eden project gig, playing to an audience of eight

tom west (thomp), Saturday, 2 July 2005 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

there needs to be some bigger names at this thing - like aguilera, britney spears, timberlake, beyonce, um, limp bizkit, etc etc

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

'THIS SONG IS A CALL-OUT TO ALL THE POLITICANS FOR ALL THE FUCKING INJUSTICES, OK?? ARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!! FUCK!!!'

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

The Eden Project gig has Angelina Jolie for some bizarre reason.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ricky Gervais just died.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

'are you sure youre not nervous?'
'so youre definitely not nervous?'

R.E.M. are pretty embarassing. To echo someone above I can't believe the person doing best out of all of this so far is Kelly Jones.

shucks.

I'm finding myself getting fonder of Keane this afternoon. It's odd who's working. Stereophonics and Keane have been the only two bands so far to really electrify.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

OMG! The Declaration of Independence!

carson dial (carson dial), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I hope Will Smith raps the Declaration of Independence

shaun kinski (shaun kinski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Now he's getting serious. That's not funny anymore...

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:06 (nineteen years ago)

I hate how the sun is shining at all the concerts bar London's.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

I can't actually click my fingers so this just makes me feel worse!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

not sure about this 3-second clicking thing. the way everyone in the crowd is doing it almost celebratory rather tham uncomforting.

keane were really affecting i found.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Fran looks old as shit

shaun kinski (shaun kinski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

he does. all the bands do. they dress like old men as well. funny that, all these dreary new bands' members look like 50 year olds.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

Dutch tv now showing Black Eyed Peas, better than I expected. Nice to see a sunny Philadelphia.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

It's why all these indie-type blokes wear school boy blazers - it'll hide the paunch.

The 'Staying Alive' bit that Travis did was excellent.

It's actually pretty quiet outside in the real world, you know. At least it is around here.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

Who is broadcasting this in the USA? Doesn't look like it's on any of the major networks...

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

i have a feeling the american live 8 will be more fun to watch.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

if you enjoy watching burger king commercials.. mtv usa is the place to catch all the action

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

are they donating all of their ad dollars to poverty relief?

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

BBCi multiscreen is working - has Eden, Philly and Berlin apparently.

carson dial (carson dial), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

I think I'm going to give in and take a walk over to the Parkway. It seems almost perverse to just ignore it completely, though I do have a lot that needs to get done (and I'm going to be there with a couple hundred--no, more than that I hope--people, tomorrow, watching Orquesta del Barrio and Frankie Negron).

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Who is the girl on MTV who just said about world hunger, "The crappy thing is, it doesn't have to be this way. The totally awesome thing is, you can help"

Is she retarded?

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Brad pitt says he was approached in Africa saying "please give me drugs"
Pete Doherty is probably doing that backstage.

Gob Beldof, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

otm kornrulez6969, she really is an idiot..

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Brad in London... Angelina at Eden Project... trouble in paradise?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Despite now being a dead ringer for Linda Lee-Potter, Annie Lennox has still got some lungs.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

haha i spoke to my canadian friend in toronto last night and first she wz all "oh live8 i am so bored w.it geldof is old and it is all a sham and a spectacle and who cares" and then she wz suddenly "... and all the bands representing canada are so LAME AND EMBARRASSING!! it is PUB ROCK BONANZA!!"

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

lennox seems to be getting quite caught up in the moment

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Simple Plan next!

p.s. Jon Bon Jovi is a cancer.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

Jon Bon Jovi is sounding so femme. I was in the other room and I thought it was Joss Stone or somebody doing a cover of "Living on a Prayer". I like it.

Puddin' (Arthur), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Do Simple Plan even have three songs that aren't about how miserable their lives are?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

wtf there's an ipod ad on the live stream. this is new.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

i was hoping bEP would do dont phunk with my heart, just cos that is the best hip hop song ever in the history of the world. but they did where is the love instead.

the racial mix of people in the US' Live 8 is much more diverse than in the Uk, where its 99% white.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

Glad I missed out on Bon Jovi...

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

fergie from BEP is so funny, trying to do hardcore hip hop expressions and facial expressions while performing.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

the green day performance looks as though it would be pretty exciting to watch.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm hoping they'll broadcast it later over here in the Netherlands...

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

I saw the Green Day set, it was ok at first but the Queen cover was a chore. Billie made everybody got "heeeeeyyyyyy-o" a lot.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

There's some quality swearing From Billie-Jo that the BBC really don't seem to mind broadcasting, too.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

so, someone explain this to me...this concert is just about signing a petition all over the world for the G8 leaders to use as toilet paper on some golf course in scotland?

i woke up to the black eyed peas and the marleys singing some bob song. horrid.

JD from CDepot, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

BBC now showing UB40. Help!

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

UB40 are not that bad. their early material was pretty great, actually. people just forget that cos of dross like red red wine. theyre the second non-rock act of the day, which is quite nice at least.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

the amount of non-white people on stage right now is staggering. geldof must be worried they might scare off viewers.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

ok, that last song sounded like a karoake reggae backing track. other than that though, ub40 were good.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

so Stereophonics, Keane and UB40 are the ILx highlights?! What is happening? This is truly a historic day!

elwisty (elwisty), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

The Annie Lennox interview is really funnily overshadowed by a roaring crowd yelling Living On A Prayer(!).

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

Shakira's butt is the highlight so far imo

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

robbie williams shamelessly chatting up the BBC presenter fern, which she will doubtlessly take him up on. he is obviously there for a noble cause. its good he didnt let his guard slip and make it seem like he was there for anything but making poverty history. are any of these rich overpaid cunts donating any of their own money to make poverty history?

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

Snoop!

elwisty (elwisty), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

Ahhh now we're really getting a proper highlight -Destiny's Child have raised the bar so high...

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

Live8 doesn't want their money!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh and kanye's got a string section with tape over their eyes! he's pretty animated.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

Which act is Beckham meant to introduce? Just saw him in the 'crowd'.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

IT'S MUTHAFUCKING D O DOUBLE GEE, live on BBC1 at 6:30PM!

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

snoop just swore twice. and again! and again! amazing.

i cant believe that is charlie wilson from the gap band dressed up like a reject from g-unit (at least i think thats him.. or is it?). hes fucking almost 50 for gods sake.

snoop is still swearing! live on bbc 1!

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

I missed Shakira's butt :- (

Masked Gazza, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Snoop Dogg is a very clever chap.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

HA HA this is soo brilliant

Masked Gazza, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

When will they stop Snoop swearing? Won't somebody think of the children?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

He's hoping for another 'KICK THIS EVIL BASTARD OUT' tabloid front page headline.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure all the little old ladies who would be complaining can't understand a word he's saying, though.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

Macca's rockin' out to Snoop, thinkin' 'bout droppin' some "cunts" into his Beatles-heavy set later. Go niggaz!

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

Sean Ryder? Whoo??

Masked Gazza, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

great cringe... Macca nodding his head out of time to snoop...

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

OH EM DOUBLE GEE!

astropatty (adr), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

this is fantastiiiiic

snoop's band, or his keyboard player at least, are pretty funky... macca nodded his head out of time to UB40 too...

he said motherfucking noise again
so great

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

Macca nodding away to 'Drop It Like It's Hot' classic.

He just won't quit with the Tourette shit!

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahaha, and they censor Justin on the backing track!!

astropatty (adr), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Tom from Keane is waddling on to do the Trousersnake bit with Snoop.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Posh is just such a wanker, isn't she?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

best performance of the whole day! snoop singing along to the backing track, smiling mischieviously, the short skirted backing dancers, this is classic

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

Whats with that tucked in at the front t-shirt look?

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

There was a lovely shot of Gervais looking awkward slightly nodding (probably thinking about how fucking stupid he came off) to snoop

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

It's a full on bloc(k) party. I thought Bob said black people would make people turn over? Ironically, I turned over at least 4 times during "I Don't Like Mondays", so there.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

They're going to have to pull this song, surely.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

Hilarious views of the crowd. Balding fat British blokes either going mental or looking quite ashen-faced at the double jizzle.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

This concert is officially about what Snoop Dogg's name is.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'm amazed BBC haven't cut back to Woss.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

Is no-one at the BBC watching this? I've got this mental image of a lone BBC live editor with his feet up in the control room snoozin' after a 15" pizza. Boy is he in trouble!

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

Mum's reaction to me rushing in to say Snoop Dogg's saved Live8: "Oh, is he swearing? I hadn't noticed!"

astropatty (adr), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

bob must be crying. snoop has made this worth watching, finally!

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

We're not getting the London feed right now! We have to watch Canadian Legend Bruce Cockburn instead! (although he is quite good)

Hopefully they'll replay Snoop later.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha peace signs! what are they saying after 'hey hey hey'?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

"Some motherlovin' good time there from the Snoop"! Not even the requisite apology! Surely the start of a new era in swear-friendly TV?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone ever said motherfucker so many times live on the BBC before tea-time?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

A guaranteed shoe-in for many students' Moment Of The Year polls already, surely.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

its just been proven just how out of touch bob geldof really is with modern pop music.

woss didnt even apologise to viewers for the bad language. i am guessing this is because neither he or anyone else at the BBC could actually understand any of those torrid 'rap lyrics' and are thinking no one else could either.

just saw a clip of bon jovi - he sounded like an old hag!

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Real question - could this happen in the USA?

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

i cant wait to watch the next points of view.

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Just saw a flash of Brian Wilson performing...

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Of course not:

xxpost

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

the bbc seem to be trying to pretend there was no swearing going on and hoping no one noticed! jo whiley isnt bringing it up either!

blahbariantheoriginal, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone ever said motherfucker so many times live on the BBC before tea-time?

well there was this one time John Noakes had a little too much vanilla schnapps in the Green Room just before Blue Peter went live...

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

according to will smith this is one of the rare opportunities in my life I'll have to change the world. one of the rare times i'll get to watch musicians perform and sign a petition.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

aol.com is letting me watch all five at once

strng hlkngtn, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

is bongonews.com devoted to news stories about what i'm suspecting it is?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Shit, now they're showing Duran Duran on the BBC. I already saw that this afternoon.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

I've been rocking aol.com since 9am! It's awesome!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Snoop obviously didn't read this:

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Razorlight! now on the BBC.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

Razorlight have to swear more than Snoop to make me not turn over now. it's not going to happen is it?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

(My vanity forces me to reaffirm that I am at work in a library with one patron in it)

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

I liked the camera zooming in on a smiling innocent little girl while all around a couple of hundred thousand people were throwing their hands in the motherfuckin air and waving the motherfuckers like they just didn't care.

Teh HoBB (the pirate king), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

big sign in berlin that says JUSTICE NOT CHARITY.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Can't everyone see that Razorlight are so like the Waterboys? (based mostly on Johnny Borrell = Mike Scott).

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

the MTV coverage of this is annoyingly truncated and lame. Show a full performance of someone please.

You could see Beyonce's panties. Hightlight so far.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

Those massive empty patches at the front of the crowd of Hyde Park are really bugging us out here.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

Johnny 1 - Snoop 324

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

A young Bob Geldof is on stage in London. This is odd.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

sadly i have missed beyonces panties and shakira's butt.

razorlight's frontman said 'fucking'. snoop has raised the bar.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

"This isn't about charity - this is about swearing"

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

ok swearing might make more people give money, but will it impress the G8?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

"ENOUGH IS CUNTING ENOUGH"

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

i had no idea razorlight was run by Mick Jagger '81.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

"MAKE PROFANITY HISTORY"

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

i wrote that BEFORE he took the shirt off

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm, this last song by razorlight is kinda interesting. hes actually doing more than just hammering the song out like it is on record, and teasing it out with some call and response. hmmmmm.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

this young man is making a rather obvious play for the Bono '05 inne

elwisty (elwisty), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

What is the newly-topless man doing? The sound is down here at work.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

We laughed, we cried, we said Snoop and Razorlight's names

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

"BUY OUR FUCKING RECORD"

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

Razorlight? interesting? in the same sentence?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

Snoop Dogg and Johnny Borrell, the Derek and Clive of televised charity concerts.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that was fantastic.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Razorlight was one of the highlights so far.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think much of this African show.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, what do they know anyway? Back to the rock!

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

it didnt last long, but it was interesting for the short time it went on. he should have sworn a lot more. if every artist who came on now, tried to swear more than snoop, the rest of this show would be so much better.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Geldof's showing Rome a film of starving people to the tune of "Drive" by the Cars to remind them why they watched Tim McGraw.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

Who's on next (London)?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

is anyone struck by how the songs of live aid 1985 were so much stronger, or at least more anthemic and bigger than most of this current lot?

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

London too. Is this really necessary? If the goal is to make people watch the show, why further push it on people who ARE watching it?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

What next? I envisage Robbie Williams will now come on and indicate he would like to 'beat tha pussy up' whilst pointing in Fern Cotton's direction.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

As well as swearing, all acts should follow Robbie Williams's lead and make lewd remarks about Fearne Cotton.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

I agree with mr Miccio on this one. It's poverty pornograhpy.

Lovelace (Lovelace), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think Robbie thought she was Fern Britten.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

this film (starving people) and this song playing in the background has to be the most tasteless sight so far.

shaun kinski (shaun kinski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

If the goal is to make people watch the show, why further push it on people who ARE watching it?

The goal is increased awareness, surely?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

even though everyone has seen the footage dozens of times since 85, its still quite terrible to see. putting it against the song is pretty fucked up and manipulative, but thats the whole point.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Madonna's next in London.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

is there going to be anywhere online i can see that snoop performance?! sounds awesome...

toby (tsg20), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

"BOB, WE'RE HERE! THAT'S ALL YOU ASKED FOR, SO SHUT UP OR GIVE US SOMETHING ELSE TO DO ABOUT IT!"

we are officially on the defensive backpatting part of the show.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

Starving, dying children in Africa is after all what this is about, isn't it?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

I trust Madonna will up the swearcount nicely.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

i feel sorry for this girl having to come on, but you guys are just being heartless. its tasteless for no reason other than the fact that whats being filmed is.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Or at least piss off some Catholics.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

why is madonna hugging this girl? she probably has no idea who she is. oh shit, madonna just asked if were ready to start a revolution.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

so why is there a sign reading JUSTICE NOT CHARITY over the stage in Berlin when Geldof's going on about how successful Live Aid was?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Madonna's going to do something incredibly idiotic, I'm sure.

Apart from the girl hugging, that is.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Sir Bob actually guested and made a big point about 'poverty pornography' on a show aired on MTV earlier in which Trevor Nelson anchored a young audience putting questions to Tony Blair live in the studio.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

Man! I changed history and started a revolution by watching celebrities perform! Why didn't we do this YEARS ago?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

xpost, did geldof say that africa's problem was solved forever? no, he just said that it did provide some help.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

FOR FUCKS SAKE, TAKE THIS POOR PAWN OF A GIRL OFF THE STAGE.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

the footage is ghastly but it is powerful to bring that woman out. I don't quite understand how, if she only had 20 minutes to live when that filmed, she survived because of Live Aid.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

but yes I get the feeling she shouldh ave left the stage.....it's like when people get stuck on the Academy Awards stage. have a spokesmodel show her off!

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

please, there's no reason to think and question. It doesn't help the revolution.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

"Is this really necessary? If the goal is to make people watch the show, why further push it on people who ARE watching it?"

yes it bloody well is - it reminds people that there is an actual reason for this event, no matter how preposterous the actual event might seem to be.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

I actually like this versoin of Like A Prayer.

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

ARE YOU FUCKING READY lONDEN?!

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

god madonna is a terrible spokesperson for any cause.

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

i dont like this version of like a prayer, it sounds like mirwais had a hand in it. its like weird clinical dance-rock. i see madonna has found her american accent again. she just said 'fucking'. she has a long way to go before beating the d-oh-double-geee though. i want to see her talk about beating the foreskin up.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

that certainly was the most outspoken fuck of the festival so far...

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

ppp if they showed the footage in the middle of an episode of desperate housewives would it mean the show was ABOUT it and that by watching it you were part of the movement to fight it? the only connection this show has to fighting poverty is that geldof says it does.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

I swear I'd completely forgotten than "Ray Of Light" existed for about 3 years before Madonna started playing it just now.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

remember they are asking for NOTHING more than for you to acknowledge them.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

Just before Madonna said 'fuck' I was writing about the potential ironing of her probably being the only performer to NOT swear at this rate (Paul McCartney stubbed his toe backstage you see...)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

the film of starving people was not tasteless, the cars wailing about taking some chick home when watching children with flies in their mouths dying on screen was tasteless.

live 8 is now officially the swearfest of the year.

Guy Beckett (guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Is Jacques Lu Cont on stage?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

The swearing makes this even more absurd. By watching celebrities CURSE we will inspire the G8 to erase world debt.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

Is gary lineker playing drums for madge?

No, it's the dad from Hollyoaks.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

What are all these Eminen types doing on stage with Madge?

Marty Innerlogic (marty innerlogic), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

no, lots of other performers have mentioned it as well. hes not the only one. its a hard balance to strike - a solemn subtext with the aim of having people enjoy themselves and get drunk and party about it in the name of awareness. these people are braindead, then he comes on and reminds them of something serious and the reason theyre supposed to be there! he cant ram it down their throats every five minutes can he....

if the performers were swearing AT the G8, at tony blair, at the govt, at the UN, it would be a lot better. as it stands, theyre just swearing for the hell of it.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

DEFINITE JACQUES LU CONT SIGHTING

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

look, if they had some sort of donation fund, that proved people were putting their money were their mouth is, rather than just sending their name to a website, or turning up to a glorified allstar gig, that would be better, and actually sound for something, this however im not sure about. its not like you can even say that this is strength in numbers cos theyre not even demonstrating or protesting, theyre just here to hear some music, but maybe some idiot at the G8 will think it means something.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

its a good performance, but it would have been better if she did some old songs. music was never a great song.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Considering the immense back catalogue she has to choose from, these aren't the songs I'd have wanted to hear. I guess the "music makes the people come together" message wins over the materialistic yet better stuff.

Alicia Keys is proud that she's in the generation that STANDS UP rather than SITS DOWN when there's hunger in the world. She's proud of us for, ummm, standing around and watching her sing.

wasn't it the first LiveAid where they made a big deal about the Police 'passing the torch' to U2? Coldplay's whole career has been "oh hey Bono oh I'm just standing here thinking I'd love a torch to carry, have you got one to spare?", so that's not really surprising.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

I find it condescending that Jay-Z wears skater shorts when performing with Linkin Park. it's like that song on the Blueprint where he says "dude" in a white voice.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 2 July 2005 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

actually, xxpost, i thought the new SS song was pretty good. not amazing, but solid. the lyrics were pretty great anyway (i watched it with subtitles, something i wish i did during snoop's performance). craig's rap went on way too long. he should have retired that part of the song a couple of years back.

What happening in Berlin?

Swearing quota back up.
Weiland vs Cotton - the dumboff.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

finally got to see Green Day doing "We Are The Champions", ughhh. there's a very specific context in which I find Billie Joe's vocal mannerisms bearable, and this is not it. (xp)

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

Velvet Revolver are being confused by Fearne's BBC children's TV style questions ("isn't this brilliant and amazing?"). Weiland is still a cockfarmer.

Fearne; "You guys are legends".

NO THEY AREN'T!!

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Still no apologies for any swearing - is this some new BBC policy? Just let it slide? People can make up their own minds?

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

lightfoot is eyeing the crowd like he's gonna fite them

also he called it "the big do"

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

I like how McCartney is trying to be surprised that young people still like the Beatles.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

"that;s one of the great things about now - there's lots of live new young bands working"

is mccartney really actually DUMB or does he just play it for some weird reason?

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

lightfoot is eyeing the crowd like he's gonna fite them

yeah, its very jack palance

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

For someone who's place in the history of popular music is unarguably foremost, Macca genuinely has nothing to say. Are Linda's pies mucking with his head? Oh God here comes Lenny Henry.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

paul mccartney is just agreeing for the sake of it. i was hoping he would lay into modern bands and say they should stop ripping his old band off.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

(Could easily fit into some Latin American formats, I think, so maybe I heard a cover. Or maybe this is a cover.)

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

anybody know who the bearded guy in rome is? He's wild! He looks like Sam Beam and acts like Shakira!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Sting. Oh Sting.
Perhaps the corporate bods at the front will lively up now.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

yes mccartney should quote geir on rap

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

i was hoping weiland and pete from the libertines would duet on something like bowie's rebel rebel. they both have hats, look kinda gay, and pete could have passed out and then away at the end for a showstopper to make the event all about him as he was obviously dying to do.

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

I'm curious about the guy in Rome too.

I bet haikunym would know something about this.

ROXY MUSIC STARTING IN BERLIN

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone ever thrown a bottle at Sting during a performance of this song?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

I really really really don't like Lenny Henry. Why on God's green earth is he popular?

(Same applies to Sting, obviously)

If I could be arsed leaving the house, I was supposed to be seeing Sting's son tonight (an unfortunate by product of seeing a different band on the same bill, I hasten to add)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

VIRGINIA PLAIN

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't Lightfoot actually from Barrie? I think he's the only one out of today's lineup!

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

What's Sting's son called?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

is mccartney really actually DUMB or does he just play it for some weird reason?

He wants to leave a spotless image behind when he passes on - so he wont upset anyone ever. And sticks to tried and tested anecdotes.

Jeffrey Archer - spot on. mark s is on form today.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Very nice.

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Sting could at least bring Pato Banton out.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

why can't we see roxy!!?

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't Lightfoot actually from Barrie?

Orilla, the north east corner of Lake Simcoe as opposed to Barrie the north west. I used to live in the south east corner of the crappy shithole of a lake.

Rufus 3000 (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Bryan Ferry looks fucking great.

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Sting's son = J0e Sumn3r. His band are called F1ct1on Pl4ne, and are playing tonight with Dot to Dot, fronted by Ally C of this here message board. I am mildly curious, but not enough to leave the comfort of my house and trek 15 miles up the road.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Roxy is easily the best act I've seen so far (Snoop only competition). "Do The Strand"!

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Bryan Ferry also sounds fucking great.

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't Lightfoot actually from Barrie?

Oh, I just remembered that he's from Orillia, so it's close. Still, nobody else is even close to being from the buttfuck town they're holding this concert in.

xxxxpost, oh, that sucks to be you Noodles/Rufus

Worst-written review ever (of Sting's son's band)

The guy in Rome is Jovanotti. Doesn't anyone remember "L'ombelico del mondo" ??

JOVANOTTI! I saw some album covers of his the other day! He's wild.

This is actually first time I've heard Roxy's cover of "Jealous Guy." It's beautiful.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

Sting looks like some sort of hybrid Bobby Davro/Freddie Starr freak.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

This makes me annoyed that I've not gone to see Roxy Music live.

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

roxy music are doing pretty good

That One Guy (That One Guy), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

To think I'd forgotten they were playing.

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

I was thinking the same thing. They seem so professional, for one thing. (But not in a boring sense.)

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Is that Paul Thompson on drums?

Kent Burt (lingereffect), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

scissor sisters shd have brought andrew marr on as their guest!! his no-tie look is maximum rocknroll

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

I would have preferred something other than "Jealous Guy" but he seems to really like this song (or maybe his version was just a bigger hit than I realize).

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Stevie Wonder should be on soon in Philadelphia if things are on schedule.

RS LaRue (RSLaRue), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

Dawn French on to up the Curtis-axis quota.

Huey (Huey), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 2 July 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I love Andrew Marr. I have a weird fixation with him which disturbs the mister. I just jumped up and went "Andrew Marr!" when he appeared in that London Eye knock-off.

I can't believe they cut off an interview with the Scissor Sisters to listen to Dawn French being crap and unfunny.
