I'm hopelessly out of the loop on what is due out in the second half of the year. Hopefully something great will emerge.

Chad Van Gaalen's "Infiniheart" comes out on Sub-Pop in late August.

Great, quirky pop that lies somewhere between The Shins and Neil Young.

New Pornographers officially comes out sometime late August

jedidiah (jedidiah), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

0=0 is an album (out on Planet Mu.) He's a Toronto junglist guy named Jason Something. He's had a bunch of random 12"s and comp tracks in the past year (a bunch are more jump up/ragga jungle than "Soul Hunter Testifies".) Word on the new album is that it's some super-mashed up Omni Trio.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

well...maybe I'll give it a listen.

a disco message (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

a disco message (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

The new Portishead album is supposed to be coming out this year... mmhmmm...

I have the feeling that the expectations for this one are so high that it will inevitably be a disappointment when it comes out.

daavid (daavid), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

I expect it's going to suck. It's been 8+ years since their last one and they've delayed it's release time and time again. That's not exactly a hallmark of a quality release.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

@Alex, I didn't even make fun of myself this time saying the new MBV, but the new Scott Walker album (feat. Liz Fraser) is definately due this fall. I hope...

I can't believe Mark was being anything other than sarcastic, but hopefully not and this is the beginning of a beautiful friend ship.
-- I Named Veal (adamr...), July 8th, 2005.

aaaah, thanks for the heads-up, Veal.
well, the only reason i asked if he was being sarcastic, is cause i would generally turn my nose up at them, which i did on their last record...but for some reason, i got hooked on this one. haha, my friends always looked at me funny when it pops up in the cd shuffle...

but really, not ashamed to say i dig it. and yes, i have 'good' taste in music. whatevs ;)

shh! (wide-eyed), Friday, 8 July 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

Breathless with anticpation for Frank Black's Nashville record, "Honeycomb."

i know. thats why they're called grandaddy

rizzx (rizzx), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

any hopes for "Prefuse 73 Reads The Books" being good?

It's not, sadly.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Saturday, 9 July 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

apparently there's a 2-cd Mahogany comp which has all of their extra-Modern Day material on it. kinda like a Switched On Mahogany. i still haven't seen it for sale anywhere, sadly.

there is and it's awesome, but i got mine online..

surely it will sound better than any other record this year. does he have a new female singer? didn't i read that the other is doing sculpture full time? his voice is not that impressive.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Whither the new Sparklehorse?

P.S. I'm sure there's already a thread for this somewhere, but what have Portishead actually been DOING for the last eight years (notwithstanding the one Beth Gibbon solo record)?

D.G. Jones (D.G. Jones), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

eg is reissuing the pre-sarah even as we speak stuff. i don't know if this is exciting news since i haven't heard any of it.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 9 July 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

The new Kicker album is out next week, hope that turns out to be good.

and I'll be looking forward to Tomas Andersson getting his full length out on Bpitch at the end of this year.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 9 July 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

the kicker album is half amazing, half ok. the half she sings is amazing, the rest isn't.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 9 July 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

I expected as much. Is is the same guy singing from fivefortyfives?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 9 July 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i thought he had promised not to sing any more but he's on half of the songs and he seems even more deluded about his ability to sing so his vocals are front and center whereas on older songs like 'turning left' at least his voice was obscured a bit. she does a duet with some other guy that is a nice country song. but then i am happy now since at least i have a whole album's worth of songs that she sings. surely they must be aware of the difference in quality when she sings and when he sings? if not then someone should let them know.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 9 July 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, when he sings, it sounds more like generic indie rock, ie the stuff indie rock fetishists eat up with a fork and spoon. Yet all the songs on fivefortyfives were well arranged/melodic/etc so he didn't completely ruin it.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 10 July 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

woah woah woah...
when you say boards of canada, are you being serious?
i mean, i guess it's around the right time for one, but still, i don't want to get all excited if you aren't for real.....

stolenbus (stolenbus), Sunday, 10 July 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

I hear that upcoming TV on the Radio and Calla records are very good.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Sunday, 10 July 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

i made a playlist of just the jill songs from Kicker and it's awesome. the new album has a shinier version of 'get rid of him'. all the rest is new. apparently they are working on new stuff now.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 10 July 2005 05:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm not holding my breath Keith, this album took 3 years, and so did the EP collection. But I'm going to try to order the new album anyway.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 10 July 2005 06:06 (twenty years ago)

it's not bad, it just could have been better. his songs are more country rock.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 10 July 2005 06:14 (twenty years ago)

We should keep this conversation going to ensure that there are more than two fans of Kicker in the world. I only found out about them because I was wondering what happened to Velocette.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Sunday, 10 July 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)
