As an avowed SFA fanatic, it pains me to say that this album didn't totally rock my fucking world the first time through.

As an avowed SFA addict fanatic, it does not pain me to say that Guerrilla, one of my favorite albums of all time, didn't rock my fucking world the first time through.

Conclusion: Either this album is really disappointing or it will be one of my favorite albums of all time.

I'm going to have to give this one a few more listens when I'm not tired and with a headache. I believe those two conditions added to my confusion with the album.

enjoy bell woods, Thursday, 7 July 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

That Blue thing comes through again…

I’m so excited and I have no idea, which way this thing will go. I hope that Love Kraft this makes Super Furry Animals the most important band it rock.

enjoy bell woods, Thursday, 7 July 2005 05:57 (twenty years ago)

would it be a bit crass of me to say that some people having been getting their expectations a bit high for this album?

I do plan on getting Love Kraft, but when it's released. Part of the charm of SFA releases is the Fowler cartoon art. It's one of those great consistent band/cover art relationships that have totally worked. The art fits the music; the music fits the art... which is possibly why the Songbook DVD worked so well. Anyway, downloading a leak will rob me of half of the experience of getting an SFA album.

(I finally found a very cheap used copy of Phantom Power and bit it and bought it, listened to it a third time, and I admit being slightly more charmed than the previous two times.. maybe seeing some of the videos on the DVD helped a little bit (especially "Golden Retriever."))

donut e- (donut), Thursday, 7 July 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

Well I've got a legit promo on right now and it's sounding dandy to me (three tracks in). All their albums get better the more you listen, without exception. They played in a horrible town called Barry up the road from me last night and I daresay I'll be informed of its goodness very shortly

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 7 July 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

Okay, this album is sounding amazing.

"Walk You Home" is simply beautiful. Lush as fuck.

Oi Frango sounds like the opening to a Banjo Kazooie game. Right down to the band chirping in something that sounds like "JINGO!" around 1:30.

Cunga (Cunga), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

this is sounding great. Zoom is such a perfect opener! The cover looks cool too.

Hmm, a 77.93 MB song....

It's a rar, dude. It's all there.

Strange. I try opening it with my ZIP program and it only shows "Zoom", but now that I installed WinRAR and extracted it that, the whole album's there. Woo Hoo!!

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

It's nice. A lot of references to 60's psychedelic sound, not as punky but very enjoyable. Will grow with next listens.

Some very nice pictures fincielad. This album is amazing and can’t wait for its release. I had high expectations and they haven’t let me down. I already feel it’s the best thing they have done in the 2000’s but will wait until I own the CD to really make the comparisons.

Thank you Super Furry Animals!

BeeOK (boo radley), Saturday, 9 July 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

The only song I'm not completely sold on is "Nack on a Roll", which Bunf (who sings it) apparently wanted off the album. I think he may have been right - it's cute but not spectacular like the rest of the record.

Still, Cloudberries is a thing of beauty, Zoom and Cabin Fever are great epic bookenders, and Psyclone is a nice picker-upper near the end. Also, Sean O'Hagan's orchestration is quite something.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Saturday, 9 July 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, "Back on a Roll" is a bit of a change from the rest of the album, but I see it as a bit of a fun break from the rest of the album. I can see where Bunf was coming from, though, and I wonder why the band wanted it on there so badly.

If I remember correctly, Gruff said something like, "It's an exercise in rock cliche." He said the same thing about "Out of Control".

enjoy bell woods, Saturday, 9 July 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, this is pretty amazing. I have to admit I was almost secretly hoping they'd fall on their face this time, but no dice. Long live SFA.

David Goldstein (DaveG.), Saturday, 9 July 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

In a sense, they fall on their face with every release. What I mean is that they consistently release these incredible albums, and hardly anyone listens. What's up with that?

Hopefully Love Kraft changes this.

enjoy bell woods, Saturday, 9 July 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

People listen otherwise they wouldnt have survived for over ten years in the music business.

dewi, Sunday, 10 July 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Well yeah, but they haven't seen that much success. In my eyes, they have every right to be as large as The Flaming Lips or whatever, but they've just never made it.

But I still love that I can see them perform in small venues.

enjoy bell woods, Sunday, 10 July 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

It's all relative. They have outsold the Flaming Lips in Europe and UK markets. I would have to check soundscan but I think their US sales aren't too far behind the Flips - Phantom Power sold strong in the US.

dewi, Sunday, 10 July 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

Is that true? It seems like Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin would be far ahead of anything by SFA.

enjoy bell woods, Sunday, 10 July 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

In the uk, yoshimi has, i believe, sold more than any single album by sfa. sfa have probably sold more overall though, since bulletin/yoshimi are the only two Flips releases to have sold anything significant, whilst pretty much every sfa release has done pretty well

quiet crown, Sunday, 10 July 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

My guess would be that SFA's biggest sellers were Rings and Radiator.

enjoy bell woods, Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

phantom power went top five in the uk.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

phantom power was their biggest US seller to date

mai, Monday, 11 July 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

I'd be thrilled, but very surprised, if the Furries ever hit big in the U.S. I guess a goofy one-hit fluke wouldn't be too crazy, but I think they're a little obtuse for the general public's taste. A lot of folks have a hard time getting past the name, the album artwork, much less the music. None of it is terribly challenging, but it is a bit "off" I think. But I wish them the best, and I hope they have huge hits and sell out enormo-domes everywhere and that I can walk by frat houses and hear their newest hit blasting out the windows.

Joseph Cowart (Joseph Cowart), Monday, 11 July 2005 06:35 (twenty years ago)

there's also that Welsh thing that damns them in the U.S. (as in refusal to not use Welsh on stateside releases... I'd be disappointed if they did ditch the Welsh stateside, anyway) -- that doesn't rule out the possibility of a renegade hit song, but as far creating a large fanbase beyond college radio.. nuh uh.

I've changed my mind on "Back on a Roll". It could possibly be one of the most important songs on the album because it shows the guys in the band in a personal light.

I'm especially fond of the lyric "Hello kitty, do you remember me?" It's so optimistic, bouncy, and catchy, and Bunf is actually singing about his own feelings. No hamsters, no puns, just raw Bunf!

Just noticed this on my net travels.

The Super Furry Animals' headline gig at the Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau music festival on Friday is to be broadcast live and exclusive on S4C.

It will be shown simultaneously on S4C and S4C digital, which means that fans in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland can see the SFA on channel 151 on Sky.

This came out yesterday in the UK. It's fuckin' phenomenal. I wasn't too impressed my first time through, but it's gotten better since. WAY better. Sounds like it could become a classic. Q were fucking high.

"Atomik Love" is so fucking good.

Legroom at the Vista (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:16 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, what a fantastic track. The heavy riff that pops out of nowhere halfway into the track totally makes the song.

silte, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 04:31 (twenty years ago)

"Best New Music" pick on Pitchfork today. Rah! Good to a band like SFA get this kind of attention stateside.

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

That's one of the most informed, well-written reviews I've ever seen on Pitchfork. I don't know how the score corresponds to all of the praise, but that's an inconsequential complaint. The guy who wrote that did a great job.

enjoy bell woods, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Thanks! 8.5 is a pretty high score on Pitchfork, so I didn't want to undercut the praise with my one or two criticisms (beyond mentioning my relative disappointment with "Back on a Roll"). Love this band, love this album. Better than Phantom Power, even if the score doesn't show it.

marc h. (marc h.), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Agreed, it was a good review, I just gave yesterday 8.4 for it, haha. Will ever these guys make a bad album??

zeus, Wednesday, 24 August 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

well some would argue rings and phantom power were mediocre albums... that's not me, though.

enjoy bell woods, Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

i think rings had enough good songs to not rank as mediocre but the dirgey ballads always do me in at the end. phantom power is pretty well perfect. i think mwng is a dud because it seems a bit too dungeons and dragonsy to me.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 25 August 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

Mwng is one of my favorites.

enjoy bell woods, Thursday, 25 August 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

Mwng is gorgeous. Rings has some wonderful singles ("Juxtaposed," hello!) and is a very very good album, but not as good as their others. Phantom Power: I like it more than I used to, and it's still better than most stuff out there, but it's gotta be SFA's worst.

marc h. (marc h.), Thursday, 25 August 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, there are some SFA albums which are "not as good as" the ones they made in the '90s, but none of the new albums were bad. And this is a great thing.

zeus, Thursday, 25 August 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

http://stylusmagazine.com/review.php?ID=3325

That review is utterly hilarious. I see no problem with a writer calling the album mediocre, but this guy has no idea what he's talking about. He spends an entire paragraph analysing ONE song - a song which is stylistically divergent from the rest of the album. And a song which is quite excellent. Then he calls "Atomik Lust" "Atomic Love" and makes a couple more mistakes. No, there's no Welsh on the album. And why the fuck didn't he mention how there are four different vocalists on the album?

Stylus really should get rid of this guy. That's one of the most painfully amateur reviews I've seen on a site like that in a long, long time. If you want a good Love Kraft review, it's on Pitchfork (surprisingly). Marc Hogan nailed that review.

flu@wink.net, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

the usual good reviews agree with me and bad reviews don't.

keith m (keithmcl), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Or, rather, the review is poorly written.

flu@wink.net, Wednesday, 31 August 2005 03:35 (twenty years ago)

for that paragraph where the reviewer is going on about radio play of the single, he might be interested to know that the radio edit of the track shaves about 2 minutes off it and gets straight to the point. even if he had no way of knowing that - i can't understand how the choice of a radio single for an album has any bearing on the enjoyment of an album, or relevance for an album review... and as for his repeated insistence there is categorically no tune, whu? it's not complex or many notes, but it's there for certain - i could hum it.

mark h (mark h), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
OK, finally gave this a full listen after receiving this via Amazon upon getting home..

Love Kraft supercedes all of Phantom Power with just the first two tracks alone. Let's just say I'm very glad to be back on the SFA wagon again.

We've all heard the ELO comparisons, but there's a pretty strong Spanky & Our Gang type thing going on in this record. Lots of bells & whistles heard on mid 70s R&B as well (though that's as far as I'll make an R&B comparison.. this is not an R&B album.) Very strong 70s Beach Boys sound here.. early and later. A small Funkadelic inspiration even?

Sure, SFA aren't doing songs like "God! Show Me Magic", "Chupacabras", "Calimero", or "Sidewalk Serfer Girl" anymore... I've accepted that they're sticking to more mid-tempo stuff these days. But it seems like they've finally honed how to do that very well, whereas Phantom Power sounded like, with a few exceptions, they were struggling with how to make a nice weird colorful album that I've always expected from them. The Phantom Power B-sides outshined the album.. which wasn't really a good sign for the album.

Whereas I can't really name any relative highlights from Love Kraft as it's pretty damn solid song after song, although i really like "Atomik Lust", "Walk You Home", "Lazer Beam" (Holy shit, "Lazer Beam" sounds like what would happen if aliens discovered Earth long after humans died, and reinterpreted music based on finding a KC & The Sunshine Band album), "Oi Frango", "Psyclone!", "Back On A Roll", "Cloudberries"... eh, the whole album pretty much.

Basically, this album must be really embarassing for the Beta Band (R.I.P.) to hear, because it pretty much trumps anything they've released 10 times over, since their first three EPs.

Yup. The Super Furries batted this one out of the park. I'm happy again. :)

mr. gripper- yes, I found it similar to mwng.
and mwng is a masterpiece, track 2-8-10!

Gruff's album is very enjoyable. If you like Mwng, you'll probably like it. The songs are rather simple, but he employs some pretty creative ideas.

I'm kind of disappointed by the healthy number of middling reviews. Some of the songs on here are quite simply otherworldly. That little Morricone-inspired breakdown in "Ohio Heat" is ingenious. I mean who comes up with this stuff?

"Cabin Fever" is just too good for words. I love the music box outro.

See, I found Mwng to be just alright, with one outstanding single. And Heroes To Zeroes had one ok song on an otherwise dreadfully boring bow-out...

Even admitting my love recharged for SFA, I'm finding myself painfully alone here. :/

I'm kind of disappointed by the healthy number of middling reviews. Some of the songs on here are quite simply otherworldly. That little Morricone-inspired breakdown in "Ohio Heat" is ingenious. I mean who comes up with this stuff?

Well, Morricone.

OK, this is a risky question here... but when did the mass SFA sycophantism start? (note: I'm not complaining about it.) Again, for YEARS, I'd talk about SFA and people would go either "who?" or "huh? I thought they were just some mediocre britpop band" (and there are still people who would said that today obviously, which is fine.) This was the case even with Flaming Lips and Polyphonic Spree fans and what have you, until and including Rings Around The World. But the levels of SFA fandom just caught me out of nowhere the past couple of years.

Is this just me being the lone American fan missing the context of UK fandom? I have no idea how many SFA fans on this forum are US vs. UK.

Um, I'm aware there are fans in other countries, zeus. I'm just starting the informal poll off here with the UK and the US for now. I'll move on to Europe, the South Pacific, Asia, Greenland, Mars, and Triton next.

I'm always shocked that as many Americans like them as they do. All the US shows I've been to have been packed. Where do they come from?

golfer, Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Well, anyway, get those CD-singles... it seems the band is saving their uptempo and looow-tempo stuff for the B-sides. The "Lazer Beam" single has the very dance-club-friendly "Sunny Seville" and the very Drake-esque "Colonize The Moon"... both excellent songs as well.

My impression of this album is the one of another dose of the same. I liked the previous doses, and I seem to like this one too. No big surprises, but still great.

hub, Monday, 19 September 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Cabin Fever, Zoom and The Horn.

zeus, Monday, 19 September 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

At first Zoom! was my favourite but it's now Ohio Heat.

Louie_Strychnine, Monday, 19 September 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

zoom! is class,
I think that the first chapter (the pessimistic one) ends with Walk you home- Frequency and Atomik Lust are powered up psychedelic ballad
à la SFA; the Horn is Beatles' techno trance lullaby ; Psyclone is Beck meets Beta Band and it seems written by Breton. Oi Frango! is one of those feel good tune you'd never stop listen to Cabin Fever is one of the best happy end song ever. The stand out track though is Cloudberries, like Slow Life was on PP. Its three different parts (down-beat, uptempo with echoes of samba and the finale à la Mogwai Sigur Ros funeral march) reaches perfection!

Anyone seen them on the current tour yet?

Saw them at Reading Hexagon last night (had to come back up because I'd already bought tix) and was a little disappointed and underwhelmed.

On the plus side 'though, I am now the proud owner of a SFA snowstorm!

"stewart- why was it little disappointed and underwhelmed???
tell us"

Hard to pinpoint exactly what was wrong, it started off well enough, it just seemed a little bit lacking in energy / enthusiasm / vitality.

Iirc this is the fourth time I've seen the SFA's, and on only one of those occasions have they really impressed me live.

The support act (El Goodo) were pretty good 'though, if again somewhat lacking in animation. Their sound varied from Big Star (surprise!) and The Zombies through Teenage Fanclub to JAMC. Picked up their CD but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

when did they impressed you? setlist? was it packed?

i've seen them a couple of times and it was mad, they were some of the best gigs i've ever been to.

hub, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

"when did they impressed you?"

It was mainstage at Reading Festival a few years ago, I forget which year.

"setlist?"

I'm not that hot on their songtitles but I do specifically remember "Hello Sunshine", "Something For The Weekend", "Caramelo", "Receptacle For The Respectable", "Atomic Lust", "Rings Around The World", "Ice Hockey Hair",

There seemed to be quite a lot from the last couple of albums.

"was it packed?"

Not by any means - and I rather suspect that this may have been part of the problem.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

...but what an entrance, eh? theyre one of those bands you cant ever accuse of not trying hard to entertain you.

hub, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

"...but what an entrance, eh?"

The entrance was indeed great.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

"i heard tickets sold well."

The place only looked about half - two-thirds full to me; certainly they were still selling (or trying to sell) tickets from the box-office on the night.

They'd probably have got quite a few more if they'd waited 'til the Uni. had started again.

Shame.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 10:29 (twenty years ago)

SFA don't really have much stage presence, sadly. The music sounds good, but they just kind of look bored.

enjoy bell woods (sjjd111), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

OTM

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

thing is that if you are playing and you look bored people in the audience will feel bored as well. still don't understand how you can boo a masterpiece like cloudberries though.

hub, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

The two SFA shows I've been to were mostly the same. The band comes on stage, walks to their respective instruments, and stans still for an hour and a half. Same goes for all the videos I've watched of the band.

I love SFA. They've basically been the only band I've consistently listened to for five or six years now. Regardless, their shows lack energy.

enjoy bell woods (sjjd111), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

-something comes from nothing
-arnofio/glo in the dark
they've never played these two tracks...what a shame.
i also reckon they nevere choose the right singles

hub, Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

They've played those songs live. Maybe not more than once or twice, but I've seen footage of performances with those songs in the set.

fantastic setlist...
arnofio was not played not even on sfa weekend.

when did they play that?
am i the only one who reckons it a TOP TUNE???

hub, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 08:58 (twenty years ago)

'arnofio' was played on the 'radiator' tour, and a bit before guerilla as well, and a few times late in the 'rings' or 'phantom power' tour, i cant remember exactly. 'somethings come from nothing' was played on the whole 'guerilla' tour and a few times at the end of the 'phantom power' tour as well.

its a good tune, but theyre 6 or 7 albums in and not exactly short of good songs for a setlist and you cant really blame em for wanting to play some more recent songs that they havent played 100s of times before...

mark h (mark h), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

why calimero is not on OUT SPACED?
they still play it live so they consider it a good song and people love it.

hub, Wednesday, 21 September 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I think the only time I shouted out a request and the band played it (which is a thread I think Douglas Wolk started), was when I shouted out "Calimero" during a technical difficulty at an SFA show many years ago. Gruff say "HUH? -- YEA -- EEH, CALIMERO? *looks at bandmates* OK"..." then the band immediately started "Calimero".

hub, Friday, 23 September 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

Saw them in Nottingham this week, and had the same reaction as Stewart: underwhelming, something missing. Also, WAY too many slow songs, which cumulatively exposed their musical limitations; after the umpteenth 2/4 plodder in a row, I was desperate for them to rock it up, even just a little bit. "Calimero" was great, but as the penultimate number it was too little too late. The visuals were equally underwhelming, esp. compared to the Rings Around The World tour: just loads of sub-iTunes Visualiser stuff on the back wall. (Great entrance/exit, though.) I've loved them live in the past, but this was maybe 6.5/10.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 23 September 2005 08:45 (twenty years ago)

I was at the Brixton gig, loved the golf cart craziness, but I could hardly hear the band at times because of EVERYONE FUCKING TALKING!!! *sigh*, are London audiences getting worse or am I just getting old and cranky? Hmm... At least a quarter of the audience were chatting the whole way through the gig, there was a constant patina of stadium ambience, I had to move in the end. No surround sound either, moan moan.

mzui (mzui), Friday, 23 September 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

mzui...was it half empty? or half full?

also, was the setlist the same as previous show?

kult, Friday, 23 September 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

Setlist was different to the last London show at Somerset House, Slow Life has moved to the first encore and they did Motherfokker with GLC, but they are still rolling out Man Don't Give A Fuck/Calimero/Run Christian Run/Something For The Weekend/Juxtaposed

Not sure what you mean about half empty/half full, unless you are taking the piss :)

mzui (mzui), Friday, 23 September 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

The Nottingham set list was broadly similar to the one above, but with a different running order. It was a long encore, but more like 6 songs than 8. And yeah, people either side of us were talking, a lot. :-(

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 23 September 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

The band must be playing less loudly.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 23 September 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Funnily enough, the band were damn loud at Brixton as are most bands when they play there, but it was still really salient, like a bed of white noise. When they played quieter songs like Run Christian Run, it was really bad.

mzui (mzui), Friday, 23 September 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

Today I read on the Super Furry Yahoo list that there's a possibility of a January European tour.

Gah, I want to hear this so bad. I was in France when it came out in the USA, but I couldn't find the SACD version in France and had no way to listen to it anyways. Got back to the US to find out that the SACD version wasn't even released here. Special ordered it, should be arriving today. Then I have to wait until Sunday to gather with friends, get smoked up, have a listening party and finally hear it for the first time. The wait is seriously making me itch. At least the Lazerbeam single is tiding me over. What a terrible pick for a single though. Good song, BAD single.

Joseph B. Cowart (flamingrev), Friday, 23 September 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

"Tank was Glasto 99 me thinks. Can't wait for the tour!!!!!!"

"tank was earlier: 96 I reckon."

'96 seems more likely and it was definitely Reading. I still have a mental image of a young lady, clearly E-ing off her face and dancing like a maniac on top of the tank wearing an extremely skimpy and soaking wet top in the pissing rain, which I really ought to erase....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 23 September 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

you're right. the peace tank was 96. i was thinking of the bloke in the truck who drove into the field while the furries were playing glasto 99. everyone started dancing on his truck.

Aye, Frequency is amazing and it would make a great single.

Lazerbeam on the other hand is cracking, I don't understand the hate for it! I love the whole concept behind it - that aliens come down to earth and lazerbeam all the badness and evil out of the human race!

I don't agree. Hometown Unicorn and If You Don't Want... are much better songs, much more direct tunes and much crazier psychedelia. Frequency is not a bad song, I just still forget the tune of it, when I don't hear it. It has a much more AOR feeling.

zeus, Monday, 26 September 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

zeus- i know what you mean, had the same impressions before i got completely into the song. can't call it AOR tho: it's a top tune: direct melody (my granma loves it along with The Horn) built on a psychedelic innuendo....and the beginning of the song and the bridge are just class.

Saw the show last night... In brief:

Caribou are not to be missed. Furries were the best I've ever seen them. I'm resigned to the fact that they are never going to withdraw the wacky/multi-media aspect of their lives before they break up, but they're making better use of it, and Gruff is acting more like a frontman.. a very absurd, funny frontman, but at least he looks like he's having fun, in his own way.

But I have to say Caribou were better, overall. THOSE VIDEOS! Flying Tex Avery cows... "kill the birdie kill the birdie kill the birdie". Holy shit!
