ok i know that chantelle is pretty. i just think that maybe, just maybe, it shouldnt be assumed that this is the primary reason she is in the position shes in now. like, shes a journalist? a good one? i also think that this is an all too oft-repeated claim made against women who succeed in traditionally male dominated industries (hha ie sort of everywhere), but especially in the music industry eg djs, producers etc.

i didnt mean to cause offence upthread about ms fiddys blog, i think its prob the most informative grime blog out there, good for insider info too. i check it regularly. only thing is i do think it sometimes is a bit self promotional and maybe cos shes an insider, it prevents her from often ever 'saying' anything that could be considered as critique. its cool though, i dont really check it for that. plus the barbie pics can be funny!

yeah, its cheap, N.A.S.T.Y., tinny, thin etc etc just like 95% of all grime tracks. doesnt mean thats not cool, but it is true, regardless. grime does not sound too hot in a car, its just not sonically heavy enough. then again, dizzee's stuff sounds good turned up loud. but when i put those grime tracks on my vice magazine sampler cd in my car, i had to turn it off as it was too painfully rickety.

I've heard this before, and it makes me wonder how many people are actually buying the vinyl/CDs and ripping it themselves, and how many are just YSIing Rinse FM rips or downloading substandard mp3s from the RWD forums. I buy vinyl from the shops, record it through a preamp and then equalize the WAV files, and I've never had a problem with Black Ops, Aftershock or even Roll Deep sounding tinny at 224/320 Kbps. (Ruff Sqwad vinyl can sound thin and cheap on occasion, but since it has happened to me several times, I'm guessing it has to do with the quality of the pressing.)

the problem i have is simply that i have no fire in my belly since dizzee left, except to make beats, at which i am a genius, but i cant be bothered to rap anymore. well not unless its to do with dissing lethal b, in which case i am quite inspired. but i never really wanted to rap anyway, i just wanted to produce. im generally very listenable and fun and engaging on radio, but when it comes to recording my own tracks, i am usually so spliffed out from smoking all year long, that i sound quite bored, deflated, and not very fun or engaging, which isnt very good is it. plus, my simple a-b-c style gets too simple on my won tracks, and i get a bit bored, and cant be bothered anymore. basically, im just not that good at writing songs as i am at sptting bars, especially those aimed at fire camp and lethal b. or vague lines about people not liking me (like lethal b for instance) because well, i am wiley, and lines about vague positive things like fixing up and getting better and looking ahead and things like that. just listen to my first album if you dont believe me.

True. I don't need that much to keep me happy. After the GREAT LEAP FORWARD that grime staged between mid-2002 and mid-2003 (in terms of advancing from, say, "Pulse X" to "Chosen One"), I think it's been on a very even keel. And the thing is that, despite the velocity of development in that 12 month period, there probably weren't as many ace tunes as have come out on a regular basis ever since.

(actually sometimes I am less-than-happy with grime but I don't tend to come on here and complain about it because I'm not really in a position to know. I guess if you're tuning in to grime stations 24-7 and buying loads of second tier mixtapes and DVDs it might be easy to discern all the problems and disappointments with the scene, but for me it's a case of periods of not hearing new stuff followed by periods of hearing new stuff which is almost all of a very high quality).

the prob with most grime blogs is that these bloggers like EVERYTHING, its impossible to know whats really good and what isnt! silver dollar has some great writing but ive bought some of the stuff he got all emo and wibbly about and was wondering what the fuss was about. i know that grime isnt exactly written about very much so bloggers wanna be positive and talk about stuff they like but what to do when they seem to like it ALL?! obv you have to make up your mind but half the time youre making impulse or blind purchases cos its not like this stuff is everywhere, you have to hunt it all down, so a bit of 'critique' wouldnt go amiss. still, what do i know? im just a hater.

i really don't mind if people don't like my blog. i appreciate that what i write might seem wrong, or bad, or even ridiculous to some people. in a lot of ways i kind of agree with that judgment. but i can't write any differently, and i can't hear the music any differently to how i hear it, and i do enjoy writing what i write, and hope that it has some value to some people.

i actually miss chantelle fiddy blogging about grime. she wasnt as formal/ultra serious as blackdown, nor as ridiculous as prancehall - she covered it from a sort of grime-from-grime-fans-perspective. not as in depth as she could have been sometimes (she obv knows her stuff), but then i think thats what happens when youre so entrenched in a scene. last time i checked her blog, it was just vids of random music, including hadouken of all people.
