Well that took long enough but apparently rumblings are on for number six, at last. The only previous rumor I had heard was for Austin...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 October 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

I maybe will be able to say I've been to one, now.

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 10 October 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

i keep hoping that there will be a terrastock in philly so i can actually go to one instead of just hearing about it for a change. it would make sense for them to hold it there, i think -- hasn't bardo pond played every terrastock so far?

spasticheritage, Monday, 10 October 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
IT'S ON!

We are pleased to announce that Terrastock 6 will be taking place in Providence, Rhode Island USA on April 21st, 22nd and 23rd, 2006.

Nine years after the very first Terrastock, the festival returns to Providence, Rhode Island for 2006. And this time it promises to be bigger and better than ever, with an unrivalled international line-up of hand picked experimental rock and folk bands from across the Terraverse.

Terrastock 6 is being staged in two centrally located neighbouring buildings in Providence. The main stage will be at Pell Chafee Performance Center, a beautiful old bank building constructed in 1929. It is an amazing open space with a three story tall high-vaulted ceiling. Click here for details of Pell Chafee

AS220 hosts the second stage (only 15 meters down the "sidewalk"). AS220 is a wonderful community arts centre that has been promoting art, music and culture from Rhode Island, national and international artists, for over 20 years. Click here for details of AS220

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Surely this can also be the occasion for the one and only All Noise Dude Summertime Fun Board and Pickle Bar Worldwide Non-FAP DestructoThing to take place.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

I would love to go to that, but I am probably too poor. Fuck it, I'll probably just go anyway. Providence is OLDSCHOOL B.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Ian, come back for local supporting noise shows. FAP FAP FAP I am going home that week anyway! :D

NED RAGGETT I WILL BUY U BEER!!!!!!!!!!!!1

jdubz (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

Yay beer!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

i want to go to this. i have a feeling that somehow, something will prevent me from going.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

most likely will attend as well, went to the first Providence and Boston ones.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Good, good. And Maria you must attend!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 October 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

I will probably go to this.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Friday, 28 October 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

the line up is a fakejazz.com critics wet dream

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

There's a reason why I wrote for them for a while.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

JEALOUS AS HELL.

Anyone know anything about the two UK acts? Am embarrassed to say that I've never even heard of either of them.

NickB (NickB), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Whatever, you UKers get ATP.

jdubz (ex machina), Friday, 28 October 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

The pothead quotient on this thing makes Arthurfest look like an AA meeting.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Friday, 28 October 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Got my ticket, rock. Word I heard from Jeffrey at SecretEye is that tickets are likely to sell out within a couple of weeks; I'm double checking with him on that now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Providence is beautiful in springtime.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Thursday, 17 November 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

I live in the next town over, but $135 is little rich for my blood. There are lots of wealthy Brown U. and RISD students around to snatch up tickets, though.

AS220's a great little venue.

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 17 November 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

$135? The price I got it at is $110, which while only a bit cheaper is still covering a full three day thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 November 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

I ordered tickets today. Edward, where do you live? I grew up in Providence/Warwick/East Greenwich.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 18 November 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

i shall travel to providence for a fap.

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 18 November 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

Roxor!

Also, if any attendees want to ponder splitting hotel costs or the like, let me know.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

I probably won't attend the actual Terrastock as most of those bands aren't my bag...but I will come and drink. Too bad im 45 minutes away or I could have offered a guest room for free.

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 18 November 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

No worries, something will suggest itself! A drink and chat is more than enough. I'm actually probably going to fly into Boston a couple of days earlier than the start of the show.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

MULTIPLE FAPS.

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Well yes! This was implied! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Also, Ian will be 21 finally so he can FAP too.

Jdubz (ex machina), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

What sweet drunkery.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Ned, I will take you to the bar where the jukebox is filled with CDR releases.

Jdubz (ex machina), Friday, 18 November 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

jon, whats that bar called rockys or something...its up a set of stairs and has couches and graffiti all over the walls. i vomited there once.

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 18 November 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

We must pilgrimage to the site of Bingo's vom.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

thats a lot of walking....

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 18 November 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Hmm. Then just one site, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

i can show you all where the great white fire happened.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 18 November 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

:-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 November 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I ordered tickets today. Edward, where do you live? I grew up in Providence/Warwick/East Greenwich.
-- Special Agent Dale Koopa (dr.carl.saga...), November 17th, 2005.

Beautiful Cranston currently, but oddly enough I've lived in Providence, Warwick, and East Greenwich as well.

I've actually got a copy of the Providence Phoenix dated 2/21/2003 with the ad for Great White at The Station (Tonight! Tickets still available!).

Make sure you include the shopping plaza where Fort Thunder once stood if you're taking people on a tour of tragic sites.

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 18 November 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

STAPLES.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 18 November 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

Right, Fort Staples. There's some other shit over there as well?

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 18 November 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Breaks my heart.

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 18 November 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

Most of the good shit in Providence is still gone. I think sometimes the redrum people put on shoes, and ren & peeps do stuff at okie street and various locales? i'm not sure, really, i am outta da loop, but i like as220. but jesus that place is TINY!

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Saturday, 19 November 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Redrum, Okie Street, and a place that's around the corner from AS220 called Kevin-n-May 4eva put on a lot of shows. AS220 actually remodeled recently, the performance space is bigger now:

http://www.as220.org/images/promo/NEW.jpg

If you want to get hooked into the local scene, the boards at lotsofnoise.com are active + friendly.

Warning to all: Providence's city plan was the fruit of an historic collaboration between Franz Kafka and M.C. Escher. It is an award-winning labyrinth of one-way streets without parking and exitless highways. If you're driving, don't time your arrival for 5 minutes before showtime, or you may find yourself in an epic race-against-time of Borgesian proportions.

If you are driving out of Boston to Providence, add an extra hour of travel time more than you think it will take. Snake Plissken had an easier time making it out of NYC. I once allowed myself 3 hours to drive from Providence to Logan Airport and still missed my flight.

The worst thing that will happen is finding yourself with an extra hour of drinking time in PVD.

Edward III (edward iii), Saturday, 19 November 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Doh!

Edward III (edward iii), Saturday, 19 November 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

That's a lot of money! And applying to school is putting an epic dent into my savings. I fear, I fear!

Sonneywolferinecastleee (Leee), Sunday, 20 November 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

Oh, give in. You know you want to.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 November 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Wow, AS220 looks nice now. I used to get stoned in the basement there all the time.

LEEEE, if you go to terrastock, it will be better than school.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Sunday, 20 November 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

did AS220 totally do away with the bar/sandwiches, or is that a photographical trick?

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Sunday, 20 November 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

MAYBE MOVED?

Occam's Reznor (ex machina), Sunday, 20 November 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

All the Terrastock people will starve and you will have to bury our corpses to prevent the spread of unwashed hair lice. :-/

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 November 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry, Ned, the rats in Providence will pick your bones clean. They'll even eat the lice's lice.

http://www.providencephoenix.com/features/top/documents/05087372.asp

Don't worry, though, AS220 moved the bar two doors down.

Special Agent, do you remember the big marble bank a couple doors down? They converted that to a performance hall and from what I understand Terrastock acts will be performing there as well. Looks like a pretty impressive facility.

Edward III (edward iii), Sunday, 20 November 2005 23:57 (twenty years ago)

I've got to stop smoking crack before I post. It's making me very repetitive.

Very repetitive.

Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 21 November 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

Well yes.

Anyway, some more news:

Added to the bill:

Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood (Australia)
The Kitchen Cynics (Scotland)
Tom Rapp

Plus a new page on travel and venue info -- sez that there's going to be a discounted rate for hotel rooms announced soon, which is nice.

Lot of food and drink info too, so I now ask those what live or lived there for their thoughts. Here's the scoop:

AS220 is located at 103-115 Empire Street. The AS220 performance space will be STAGE 2 for Terrastock 6. You enter through the AS220 bar which also contains the Taqueria Pacifica café. The bar and Taqueria are normally open to the public, but for T6, both will be only serving festival goers. There will be plenty of beer, booze, tacos, burritos, tostadas, coffee and the like for sale all weekend. Really good food and drink - The prices are very good, as well. Again, you must show your T6 ticket to enter the bar and café. Entry to the performances on STAGE 2 is just past the bar. There are restrooms at the rear. http://as220.org/

Directly next door is the PERISHABLE THEATRE, located at 95 Empire Street. This space will be the Terrastock 6 merchandise area filled with record vendors and T6 band tables, as well. There are additional restrooms in this space. http://perishable.org/

Directly next door to Perishable is the PELL CHAFEE PERFORMANCE CENTER, located at 87 Empire Street. This is the main Terrastock 6 venue, STAGE 1. This space is a huge, beautiful old building. Several restrooms are in here, as well. We will be setting up a limited beer bar close to the front entrance – bottled and can beer only. Go to AS220 (STAGE 2) for the full bar.

---

FOOD and DRINK

AS220 Bar, 103 Empire Street.

Taqueria Pacifica, 103 Empire Street. Inside AS220 (STAGE 2). Cheap west-coast style Mexican food.

Cafe La France. 73 Empire St. Next door to Pell Chafee (STAGE 1). Cheap sandwiches, soups, coffee.

Trinity Brewhouse 186 Fountain St. One block from AS220. Full dinner and pub-style menu. Plus, the best beer in Rhode Island. All beer is brewed on the premises. http://www.trinitybrewhouse.com/

The Cuban Revolution, 149 Washington St. One block from AS220. Pressed sandwiches, wraps, veg/vegan friendly. http://www.thecubanrevolution.com/

Muldowney's Pub 121 Empire Street. Next door to AS220. No food, but this is the place for all the real T6 barflies.

Being a good food junkie myself, if there's such a thing as a particularly great local restaurant in general I'm all ears. Is there any good Portugeuse spot around?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 November 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I am going to this.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

Word just came through that Lightning Bolt is on the bill (formal listing on the website will be tomorrow).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 December 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

re: Lightning Bolt, makes sense.

There's a large Portugese population in these parts, but I don't think there's a downtown Portugese restaurant. I could be wrong. If you're not adverse to a car ride, Solmar in East Providence is very good (note that East Providence is a city bordering Providence, not to be confused with the East Side of Providence where Brown U and RISD are located).

The Wickenden neighborhood on the East Side (not to be confused with East Providence) has some nice restaurants (Taste of India, Tokyo), and a fantastic breakfast joint called Brickway on Wickenden. This is also a cool neighborhood to just stroll around; used record store, secondhand shop, cult video rental shop.

I highly recommend Blake's Tavern - it's around the corner from AS220. Friendly staff, great bar grub. Clientele is a weird mix of cops, college students, freaks, and families. Try the chicken parm sandwich or knucklehead chili. My favorite downtown haunt.

Federal Hill is a necessary stop for any connoisseur of Italian food, it's a 5 minute drive from AS220. A cornucopia of canoles, calamari, gnocchi, and gelato served in a bunch of restaurants crammed into a 4 block radius. Dine with real-life gangsters and members of the local gov't (sometimes one in the same).

And of course there's the Hope/Thayer area adjacent to Brown U and RISD. Several record shops, indie movie theatre, lotsa restuarants and shops, clogged with university students.

Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 2 December 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

All very good to hear, thanks. Yeah, the Lightning Bolt thing doesn't surprise me at all, but it'll be great to finally see 'em.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 December 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure Tokyo is still there even.

And of course there's the Hope/Thayer area adjacent to Brown U and RISD. Several record shops, indie movie theatre, lotsa restuarants and shops, clogged with university students.

There's only one now.

Federal Hill is a necessary stop for any connoisseur of Italian food, it's a 5 minute drivewalk from AS220.

'you' vs. 'radio gnome invisible 3' FITE (ex machina), Friday, 2 December 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

This is a good thing to hear.

Is there a mysterious Jon dance I will see when Lightning Bolt play their gentle acoustic ditties?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 December 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

apparently sonic youth is in too.. "college girls don't wild."

sooo psyched for this, and it's so far away.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Saturday, 3 December 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Hahahah, is THAT who that is? I was wondering. And I see now that the link on the homepage goes directly to their site -- the perils of my laziness!

Anyway, that'll be a treat, their set at the last one was great and I enjoyed 'em v. much at Arthurfest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 December 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

I haven't seen sonic youth for a few years. Aren't they kinda just like the grateful dead now/still? I think with Murray Street that transition was complete.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Saturday, 3 December 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Jams aren't as long. And they still cut good shapes on stage. Judge for yourself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 3 December 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

kim gordon will always be way foxy.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Saturday, 3 December 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Just got my ticket in the mail -- they say you'll need it for the entire weekend, so the answer is obvious, laminate this sucker once you get it and wear it around yer neck or something. (They did that at T2, I vaguely recall.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 January 2006 23:51 (twenty years ago)

hmm, I can't afford to buy this yet :(

A BOLD QUAHOG (ex machina), Sunday, 15 January 2006 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

Rob a bank.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 January 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

jon, you must know someone who can get you into as220???

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 15 January 2006 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

ticket arrived.
i want to be fucking tripping all weekend.
someone else will have to drive (brock?? jon???)

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 15 January 2006 22:31 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder if chris rabbit is gonna go and record it all/the best bits?
i plan to bring a tape recorder, at least.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 15 January 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
did anyone notice the pfork news item about this from last week or so? it mentioned that this will be the last show by ghost in the usa, ever. anybody have the scoop on that?

stingewell, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:03 (nineteen years ago)

wow, didn't notice the pitchfork thing.

i hope that's untrue. ghost are great live and everyone deserves to see them for years to come.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

FYI, here is the entire article:

Long before freak-folk was cool and everybody's little brother wanted to be in a noise band, the out-there journal Ptolemaic Terrascope and its Terrastock festival were showcasing the world's finest purveyors of synapse-melting experimental rock. Neutral Milk Hotel, Acid Mothers Temple, Silver Apples, Flying Saucer Attack, Olivia Tremor Control, Mountain Goats, and, of course, Sonic Youth all played Terrastocks past, frying their cerebellums alongside countless other bands that would have been huge, had they the foresight to become friends with Devendra Banhart and Black Dice back in the day.

This spring, Terrastock will return from a four-year absence to show all the newbies who's boss. Thanks to Ptolemaic Terrascope and the record label Secret Eye, Terrastock 6 will take over the Pell Chafee Performance Center and AS220 in Providence, Rhode Island (home of the first ‘stock, back in 1997) from April 21-23.

Veteran acts like Cul de Sac, Bardo Pond, Charalambides, Damon and Naomi, the Green Pajamas, Windy & Carl, and Tom Rapp of psych godfathers Pearls Before Swine will join upstarts like Lightning Bolt, Black Forest/Black Sea, Larkin Grimm, Marissa Nadler, and Spires That in the Sunset Rise at the festival. Finnish favorites Avarus and Kemialliset Ystävät will play for the first time in the U.S., as will Australia's Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood and England's Thought Forms. (Sadly, Terrastock 6 will also feature the last-ever U.S. performance from Japanese acid-psych monsters Ghost.)

Fursaxa, Glenn Jones, the Kitchen Cynics, Sharron Kraus, Landing, the Magic Carpathians Project, Major Stars, MV/EE Medicine Show, Kinski, Paik, Jack Rose, Salamander, St. Joan, Spacious Mind, Tanakh, and Urdog will all share the good vibes as well.

And what would an experimental festival be without a Sonic Youth side project? Terrastock 6 will also feature a performance from the excellently named College Girls Gone Wild, which is a collaboration between SY's Thurston Moore, Dan Ireton (aka Dredd Foole) of Volcano Suns and Cul De Sac, and Matt Valentine and Erika Elder of Tower Recordings and MV/EE Medicine Show. BYO boobies and beer.

stingewell, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:10 (nineteen years ago)

I still haven't decided on going, but I probably should (will have to fly up from NC). The only bands playing that I've seen before are Lightning Bolt, Bardo Pond and Jack Rose. I'm sorta surprised to not see Six Organs or Comets on the bill. Does anyone know if more bands will possibly be added?

stingewell, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

That neat abt College Girls Gone Wild. Dredd Foole is sometimes great and sometmies awful, depending on how he puts it together/who the band is. i really liked "in quest of tense." i haven't heard the new one, though, but i know mr roger adultery is a fan.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

let me say that Major Stars with their current line-up absolutely DESTROY.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

Very good to hear. :-)

Only three months away! This will be great fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

I kind of feel like the lineup could use more representation from the 'heavy' side of things, but am not worried about being dissapointed either way. rrrobyn and I are heading down with others from Montreal. Can't wait.
Is the current major stars lineup what I hear on the Black Road 7"? Totally rules if so.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

rrrobyn and I are heading down with others from Montreal. Can't wait.

Very grand! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

so fappage, ought to be at the red fez and julian's, i figure. those are the hip providence bars, as far as i know.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still debating on whether to be there on Thursday night or Friday, but I'm thinking Friday.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

are you flying into warwick or boston?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

Boston on Wednesday morning. Shall be crashing with Mr. D. Perry for a bit and will train down to Providence.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

I want to meet you guys!

ought to be at the red fez and julian's, i figure. those are the hip providence bars, as far as i know.

Not bad, but Nick-a-Nees too!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

i haven't hung out much in providence since i turned 21. nick-a-nees is in the jewelry distric, kind near planned parenthood? i don't remember.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

Just make it near the venues for easy escape and return.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

providence is a very small town.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Great! I'll hire rickshaws. Er, wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it's all pretty compact. Nick-A-Nees is where you remember it, by the way. And I'm sure one of the younguns can uncover a place I don't know about.

xpost - fuck I hated the rickshaws!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

is there waterfire this weekend? let's throw a FAP in the train tunnel. it will be just like high school.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

Flying from New Orleans to Providence isn't as $$$ as I thought--was a hotel deal thing every announced as promised?

Sorry Gene: The WaterFire schedule isn't out yet, and the train tunnel's long gone.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

there's a group rate at the downtown holiday inn..

http://www.terrascope.co.uk/TerrastockPages/terrastock6_travel_Hotels.html

xpost: the train tunnel may be long gone, but i believe it's still possible to get into the Gano street entrance, kinda up the hill from dunkin donuts. we had a few parties there when i was in high school abt 4 years ago.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

I've never to been to RI and I've never been to Terrastock (almost went to one on the west coast a few years ago. but did not.) But I'm going to this!! So even though I don't post much at all to ILM, you'll see me, esp if there is FAPaction.

Perhaps this is a bit soon to ask: but good places to stay? oh, xpost, holiday inn, eh? hrm...
Also: we are coming from Canada - I'm guessing procurement of interesting things prob won't be difficult, but it would be good to have friends on our side re: this.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

$115 a night, hmm... that's kind of a lot. I'll look for cheap transient hobo motels.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can tell that "fap" means partying/hanging out/drinking, but what is the literal meaning? Is it a British term, or an acronym, or what?

stingewell, Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

ha ha ILX Newbies!
Fancy a pint?

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

adam, if you want to rent a car there are cheaper accomodations 10 minutes out of providence proper.

and as far as "interesting things," chances are that I will be able to hook people up with helpful fairies. i dunno, though, sometimes my old friends are MIA.

Anyway, I'm plotting with a friend o' Windy and Carl's to split hotel costs, so I must follow-up on that. The rate ain't THAT bad given what I was expecting.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

the train tunnel may be long gone, but i believe it's still possible to get into the Gano street entrance, kinda up the hill from dunkin donuts. we had a few parties there when i was in high school abt 4 years ago.

See, I thought you were going to feel old from this exchange, but of course it's me.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

"helpful fairies," dude??!?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

As opposed to evil fairies. What, you're complaining?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

i never feel old, rick. it's part of my curse.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

I need to check again, but I think motel 6 is a ten-minute drive/taxi and $50/night.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

i'd like to go to this, but i think its probably a couple weeks too early for me to be around

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

gareth, you should go.

and superultramega, i think yr right. motel 6 is right off 95 in cranston and around $50/60 per night.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

Gareth, you must go.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'd go but I'm on supreme financial lockdown. But I'm still here representin' Cranston, yo.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 6 February 2006 19:12 (nineteen years ago)

While I may not have known what "fap" meant, I guess I'm making up for it by posting these informative tidbits:

We are pleased to announce the following, additional, confirmed show at AS220 on the night before...

4/20 Pre-TERRASTOCK 6 Party with

Acid Mothers Temple (Japan)
Abunai (reunion)
Bright
Joe Turner + The Seven Levels
Area C

8pm, $10 cover for everyone
(sorry, T6 tickets do not apply)

stingewell, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 02:00 (nineteen years ago)

Also announced was the cancelation of College Girls Gone Wild, because of a previous committment that could not be changed. I assume Sonic Youth must be touring or something, since MV/EE and Cul De Sac are still playing. To make up for this, PG Six has been added.

Stingy (stingy), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

The pre-show does sound like a treat but I've already made Boston plans for that night -- FAP ahoy! Great lineup, though, so hope folks do head over and enjoy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 02:15 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kind of surprised they didn't work terrastock proper into the amt tour. The tour routing certainly would have allowed it.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was kinda wondering about that. Are they actually playing after the Providence date for the next couple of days? Maybe they just wanted to enjoy the shows. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

they're playing each day, but it seems to me that the routing could have gone either way.

4/20 providence
4/21 philadelphia
4/22 baltimore
4/23 asheville

whatever, it's nothing to dwell on.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm! Well, whatever. Maybe them and Ghost are mortal enemies now.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

new additions to the line-up
Tom Rapp (will be playing w/ members of ghost, damon&naomi, black forest/black sea)
and...
BRIDGET ST FREAKING JOHN!!!!

and p.g. six.

cheezus crackers, I'm stoked.

miriam goldberg, Thursday, 16 February 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

Heya Miriam, always good to find the Secret Eye folks among us. ;-) Tom Rapp = surely not a surprise, he's a regular at those things!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 February 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

it was kind of a surprise this year, b/c he had already said no. so I'm happy. also I think it'll be neat to see him play with people from ghost.

miriam g, Thursday, 16 February 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it'll make for a good combination -- trying to think if he's played with them before, I think he did so in Boston? Definitely Damon and Naomi, I'm sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 February 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

But anyway, Bridget St. John, then. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 February 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

hey miriam! you don't know who i am, but i used to live in providence and we've met a buncha times.

it's too bad i am not a girl, or else i would be psyched abt bridget st. john. doesn't the terrastock page already say tom rapp, though? and hasn't it for a while?

Fiddlesticks, I've just heard that the room arrangement I thought I had worked out has fallen through, though I'm still double-checking with the person so maybe all's yet well. That said, anyone else still looking/want to split costs on a room? Let me know!

Okay, thanks to the couple of tips I've got -- haven't booked a room quite yet but looks like all is good on my end! It's looking likely that I'll be able to get a room with a second bed, so if someone is still thinking about going and hasn't booked yet, get a hold of me!

Ned, Brickway on Wickenden is nice for brunch (and close to yr hotel I think) - unfortunately not a great place to seat a whole mess of people all at once though. And no liquor license, so you'll have to bring yr own mimosas (and beer).

Ian, does yr AMT attendance hinge also on whether you want to deafen yourself the first night of T6?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 13 April 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

It hinges mostly on my mom's health, as she's having surgery that Wednesday... if she needs me to be at home, then I'm at home. Otherwise I'll probably go.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Thursday, 13 April 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 April 2006 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

It isn't serious, it's just that she won't wanna walk around much over the weekend and may need errands/things done around the house. I am a momma's boy.

For those staying at the Radisson, here's a map.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/edwardiii/prov.gif

Be forewarned; Providence can be a disorienting driving experience. Lots of one-way streets designed to whisk you far from your intended destination.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, I should be at the Radisson around check-in time at three -- the Canadian contingent hopes to be there then as well. I see the show that night starts at 5:25 pm so anyone want to meet up at the venue or around there a bit earlier for dinner/chat/whatever?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I am going to be in desparate need of beer and indian food when I arrive.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

"desperate"

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Clearly we have a plan. Indian food/beer pre-Tanakh. (And post, if the Green Pajamas end up being not all that.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

India's no longer on Dorrance - it's now Beyond India, a nice place, but not true Indian food anymore.

Go for Taste of India on Wickenden or Kabob N Curry on Hope St.

Ned, did you ever get your ride from the train station sorted? What's yr ETA?

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

I've always been a kabob and curry man; I love when you can sit outside there and drink bass and look at high school backpack hip hoppers

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, did you ever get your ride from the train station sorted? What's yr ETA?

My goal was to be in town for check-in at the Radisson at 3 pm. Let's say I'm aiming for 2 pm arrival for the hell of it, or thereabouts. Shoot me off your phone number via my e-mail and I can give you a call around Friday noon, say?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone looking for record shopping in Providence should check out Armageddon on Broadway:

http://www.armageddonshop.com/

(don't be put off by the insane amount of metal/grind/crust/rivethead shit they have!)

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Put off? That actually makes it sound even better!

(I figured I'd do most my shopping with the T6 bands -- they gotta eat!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yea, good point -- NO MONEY. :D

NEDDY-POO DO YOU WANT TO BURN SOME BLACK CANDLES AT HP LOVECRAFT'S GRAVE!?!?!??!?!?!?!

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Dear god, do you take me for an SCA reject? I'll decapitate people doing that if I find them, though, so that could be entertaining.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:46 (nineteen years ago)

C'mon Ned, it's what all the Depeche Mode fans do in Providence.

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

You scare me, but with love.

So I hear Pastiche is the place to go for desserts that will knock your socks off.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

*checks* Okay, figure I'll take the MBTA from South Station to Providence on Friday that arrives at 1:10 pm. Amtrak seems unnecessarily expensive in comparison.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

now that's what i'm talkin bout broski. you can probably hop on a bus that will take you close to the hotel, but i do not know which one off the top of my head. ripta.com.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, you are correct; my love is scary, and Pastiche=yum. Also, ygm.

Curious: Is the vendor area of Terrastock going to be open access? I assume since it's in the Perishable Theater it will be.

Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

now that's what i'm talkin bout broski.

It was clearly designed for happy cheapskates like myself.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be there (including at the Thursday show). Staying at the Holiday Inn. Meet-up's would be fun for sho'

Stingy (stingy), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

I've got my son all weekend, and I'm reviewing BB King Thursday night, but I hope to get to as much as possible and meet as many of you guys as possible. I'll be the boring-looking guy.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

CREEPY LOCAL DELICACIES (i.e. ny system)

Original New York System, complete with ONYS tile inlay on the floor, is on Smith Street, but it's a drive.

Haven Brothers!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Also you should drink at Prospect Park. I did that before/after my high school reunion, and it made it liminally tolerable.

Haven Brothers on a weekend = TROUBLE

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I have suspicions.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck, I hate having to fly to a psych festival. Anyone know what the parking lot scene is going to be like? Should I just look for a guy in a Batman t-shirt?

jeepers_teepers, Tuesday, 18 April 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

parking in downtown providence can be a hassle, but there's a giant parking garage at the mall which can be cheap if you get yer ticket validated.. i dunno how long you'd want to leave yer car there, though.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

You no longer have to get validated at the mall garage. Don't know offhand how much it is for long stays, though.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yea, the garage CLOSES though.... not sure when.

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Either you guys are missing the point or you're taking the metaphor way out there in a kind of awesome way.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

also there is usually parking near as220 just slightly near the highway, behind the library kinda.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:26 (nineteen years ago)

It would be awesome if guy in batman shirt actually did park your car for you though! 2 birds, one stone(d). (haha, ohgod, sorry.)

'sorry bro, you need to come back with a validated ticket'

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like I'm just going to have to make do with doctor prescribed pharmaceuticals (not MY doctor though) and coffee milk. Damnit. Someone was doing a j and blowing the smoke out one of the windows at Terrastock 1 and I thought the guy was going to get mobbed.

jeepers_teepers, Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

In other words, I wish B.O.R.B. was playing. In my hotel room. At the Holiday Inn.

jeepers_teepers, Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

weed probably won't be a big issue...

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Fuckin' stoners.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hey man, alcohol's a crutch.

On another note, anyone have any dream collaborations in mind? Terrastock is known for the "jams" right?

I've always sort of wondered what Fursaxa + Charalambides would sound like, but maybe not so much because Christina and Tara both sort of go to similar places vocalswise.

Kemialliset Ystavat + Ghost if they can fit them all onstage. Kurihara and Damon and Naomi would be nize to see too.

Lightning Bolt + Avarus would be FUCKING INSANE

jeepers_teepers, Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

Anything is possible. I could even read the almanac.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

(I really wanted to have a party favor for you Ned, but I don't think it is going to happen.)

Fight the Real Enemy -- Tasti D-Lite (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Alas! We will have to make do with sweet drunkery.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 April 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

parking-lot scene

Sorry. Not my scene. Slow on the uptake.

Haven Brothers on a weekend = TROUBLE

Any post-midnight food is a potential adventure, but at Havens you can stand outside, thus you always have an excape route. Besides, I was thinking of things in walking distance. The tacqueria at AS220 rules, too.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 13:11 (nineteen years ago)

Friday FAP around 3 or 4pm at the AS220 Cafe? Should be okay as long as Terrastock organizers haven't commandeered the place.

I haven't eaten at the new tacqueria, but I have tried the bar. Here are some pics of the joint:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Our man Massimo dropped 3! full! pages! in the Providence Journal today on Terrastock. I'll bring a copy 'round to Friday's (tentative, still) FAP.

Rick continues making the music section of the local daily a joy, so, props.

Ned, did you get lost in the stacks of the FE warehouse?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

Alas no! That reminds me I was going to check out Twisted Village...but then again, T6 stalls will probably eat up all my spare cash, as mentioned, so I'll avoid temptation (and Wayne and Kate will be there anyway!).

No, today is wandering around Boston for a bit being slightly touristy, then meeting up with folks for drinks and dinner tonight. Yay good fun!

Yeah, actual evening FAP pre-shows...we all still up for that? Indian food and beer = goodness. Meantime, Ed, I'll call you from South Station before I head out tomorrow morning. And yeah, it'll be cool to read up on the Providence Journal coverage!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

I love the Indian, only consideration would be getting to the venue by 5:30pm. Providence + rush hour = teh suck.

Bombay Club is close to AS220, but I've never been so I can't opine. Taste of India doesn't have a liquor license, so that's out. Kabob n Curry is on the East Side, not far as the crow flies, but difficult parking @ restaurant + difficult parking @ venue + rush hour + beer = uh, whut tyme is it? Which is why I suggest Friday FAP @ AS220 proper or other nearby joint (e.g. Blake's Tavern, Trinity Brewhouse).

Ian, Rick, anybody, are you fapping? Getting fapped up? All fapped out?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

3 or 4 pm would be best - later Friday night will probably be eaten up at least partially by the Clay Osborne tribute. Let's check AS220 first, with the Brewhouse as our too-crowded option.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

I'm all for it. I'm aiming to check in at the Radisson at 3 pm if not earlier at the Radisson and after that it's a matter of when the Canadian crew arrives -- hopefully around the same time, such was their plan! If they're there by 4 pm then I figure we can all head over to meet you folks at AS220 and take it from there, so why not say 4 pm for the heck of it?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, do you have dinner plans for SATURDAY?

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

I would like to fap at some point. I also will be in need of Indian food and beer. Ned, if we arrive later, pls leave handwritten note re: fap location or old-fashioned land-line message. (Now I have to do 4543 things before we leave tomorrow AND my bike's bottom bracket appears to be EFFED. I looked at how to fix it. It looks INVOLVED.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Friday sounds like a plan.

Here are directions from the Radisson to AS220, check the map I posted above to sing along (you can take the highway if you want to be boring and miss out on the psychogeography of Providence).

Left onto India St. out of the parking lot
1st left onto Gano St.
Go under higway overpass, make left onto Wickenden St.
Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do
Admire funky Wickenden neighborhood
Take Wickenden over the bridge
Admire Fox Point Hurricane Barrier (it really keeps them out!)
Take 2nd right after bridge, Richmond St.
Admire industrial ambience of the jewelery district, pretend you are Snake Plissken
Richmond dead-ends at Weybosset St.
Right onto Weybosset, then super-quick left onto Matthewson, you must scoot!
Take Matthewson for 3-4 blocks, make left onto Washington
(DO NOT MISS THIS TURN OR YOU WILL BE SAD)
Blake's Tavern is on the lefthand corner of Matthewson and Washington, if you need a landmark
Take Washington to Empire (3 blocks), make left onto Empire
AS220 will be immediately on your left, 115 Empire
Begin praying as you scour the vicinity for parking

FYI, Providence tows

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

I think we will just take a cab there... or public transit! Do people take public transit in Providence? Do they take it from the Radisson?

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

I never took public transit much; ask Ian? All these distances are walkable for me but YMMV.

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Here's the RIPTA (bus) route from Wickenden to Kennedy Plaza:

http://www.ripta.com/schedules/view.php/route/34/direction/1

Wickenden & Governor is a couple blocks from the Radisson.

Kennedy Plaza is where the downtown bus & trolley station is, it's about 10 city blocks from AS220. You can probably catch a trolley to Washington & Empire from there, or walk.

A walk from the Radisson to AS220 would be a nice one on a sunny day, but it would probably take you about an hour. Radisson might have a shuttle downtown?

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

more like 25 minutes unless you are a FEEB

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

ABLEIST!

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the bus and walking info! If it's really only a 25 min walk, then that's awesome. Even if it's 35, that's still decent. I walk a lot. We'll see what happens. EXCITING.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 20 April 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

If anybody's going to AMT tonight, I'll be rocking the evil supergenius look (bald, goatee, wire rim glasses). If it's sold out when I get there, I'll also be the one banging my head against the front window.

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

okay, so:
tomorrow as220 taqueria action, then maybe we can do indian food on saturday? i might go to AMT tonight. i'm still wavering. i'm cooking dinner for my mom, but will be done earlier enough to still catch the show if I decide to. I didn't sleep last night though, so I might want to stay in... we'll see.

if anyone needs my phone number, e-mail me privately.

If you do foot it, robyn, here are better walking directions:

Left onto India St. out of the parking lot
1st left onto Gano St.
Go under higway overpass, make left onto Wickenden St.
Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do
Admire funky Wickenden neighborhood
Take Wickenden over the bridge (Wickenden becomes Point St. here)
Admire Fox Point Hurricane Barrier (it really keeps them out!)
Take 2nd right after bridge, Richmond St.
Admire industrial ambience of the jewelery district, pretend you are Snake Plissken, RUN!
Richmond dead-ends at Weybosset St.
Left on Weybosset
Right on Empire (Beneficient Church is on the corner of Empire and Weybosset)
AS220 is a couple blocks down on your right, 115 Empire

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 20 April 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

Admire industrial ambience of the jewelery district, pretend you are Snake Plissken, RUN!

Hi all,

I'm wicked psyched to make it out to T6...wasn't sure until earlier this week. Here's my last minute beg/request. Does anyone have a some floor/couch space for 2 people? If so, drop me a line. We are kind and quiet.

And I'm curious 'bout the FAP. T'would be my first ever after loping around these boards here and there. For some reason there's never been one up in the Berkshires (of MA). See y'all later.

nick ring (nick ring), Thursday, 20 April 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, do you have dinner plans for SATURDAY?

Nothing yet, suggest away (we just gotta keep the schedule in mind, I forget who I can miss and who I can't).

Ned, if we arrive later, pls leave handwritten note re: fap location or old-fashioned land-line message.

I'll figure something out. I trust. Related to that:

ATTENTION ATTENTION -- might all Radisson peoples remember that the Terrastock folks have always said on the website that there will be FREE SHUTTLES to AS220 or thereabouts from the hotel? Therefore stop panicking about parking, you illiterates. ;-)

tomorrow as220 taqueria action, then maybe we can do indian food on saturday?

I'm all for it.

if anyone needs my phone number, e-mail me privately.

Noted. I presume I will be able to check the net at the Radisson somewhere. Though if Ed has it now I'll get it from him when I arrive.

YAY TODAY.

the unbearable lightness of peeing (orion), Monday, 24 April 2006 03:42 (nineteen years ago)

Long awaited Jon Williams/Ned Raggett hand-holding photograph.

Charalambides was the peak for me, probably just cuz I love their records so much and I have been waiting to see them for so long. They did two songs from Market Square! "Namaste" and something else.. I wanna say "Another Way Out" but I don't think it was. I'll have to check when I get home. I'll post pictures to thread once I get them hosted. (Right now that one of jw & ned is just on myspace, eek.)

Ghost was incredible. They're such a tight band, it's pretty amazing. They did a lot of double drumming stuff, and even three drummers on the last one they played. It's great how they can go from serene & chilled out to ultra-heavy rock n roll on a dime. Also, Kurihara is an amazing guitarist goddamn. I think I noticed it even more this time than last time I saw them; just epic/gorgeous fuzz solos that never end.

Major Stars were good, but that was to be expected. Girl singer is weird. Detracts in some ways, cuz the real show is, or ought to be, watching wayne & kate shred. but she is cute, so whatever.

I was bummed I missed out on seeing some of the stage 1 stuff because the room was too small to hold everybody. I had to hear UrDog way from the back, and I could barely hear Black Forest/Black Sea standing in the doorway so I gave up. Oh well, no huge loss.

Avarus were great, especially the second jam. Finnish is an awesome sounding language. I wish I had stuck around to see Kemialliset Ystavat but I was feeling kind of crappy by late Saturday so I split after the (surprisingly? awesome) Damon & Naomi set.

YSI?

JW (ex machina), Monday, 24 April 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

I imagine the singer for majors stars would be 1000x more awesome in a smokey bar full of coked out tripsters

JW (ex machina), Monday, 24 April 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

I wish I could have seen ghost.

The Mercury Krueger (Ex Leon), Monday, 24 April 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

i wish that my recording software hadn't smeared THIS SOFTWARE IS UNREGISTERED messages all over, every fucking minute. Totally ruined.

gbx (skowly), Monday, 24 April 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Hoo boy, what a time. More later when I actually get home. Remy, apologies for not calling as asked, I just saw that!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 April 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

Nice to meet you, Nate - to top the list, my car broke down Saturday, so I ended up not being able to see anything!

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Monday, 24 April 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

THAT WAS FUN
Earlier today, in car, half asleep, I said something like "That was an awesome weekend, just, y'know, it was special." ahaha. BUT IT WAS. I HEART TERRASTOCK.

And so good to meet people too! Sorry I didn't get to say bye to Ian, Jon et al but will prob see you when in NY sometime soonish. Oh, and we did get to the Ocean! Outside Sa1em - S@lisbury/Hampt0n - really really beautiful, though a bit cold and blissfully deserted. Closed our eyes and listened to the Sound of the Sea and the Wind. For a while. Yeah.

I still have Lightning Bolk Neck. ow. worth it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Ned, I meant Nate - meeting you, on the other hand, was awful (he he).

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 12:57 (nineteen years ago)

Amazing!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

jeffreyjeffreyjeffrey, Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

Hey neat! And Jeffrey, thanks again man -- we could all see you were running yourself ragged but it was all for a good cause. Hope you've finally gotten some sleep!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait you just said you did, duh. 15 hours, that seems right!

It was true affection. And you were a total gentleman, Ian.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

I am currently uploading photos like crazy to my flickr account but none of them have names or tags or anything yet -- I'll plug away on that tomorrow as I can.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 04:56 (nineteen years ago)

Greatest ILX photo ever?

DOQQUN (donut), Thursday, 27 April 2006 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, you look like an unwilling participant at the orgy.

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

"No Entrance"

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

man that was really great. i managed to see every band and pretty much their whole set each time (but it defintiely wore me out in the end). i liked something about pretty much every act, and one of the big positives i thought was that even with the bands i had not heard of at all beforehand, they turned out to be really good (especially larkin grimm, her set was terrific!).

very nice that the venues were so close together, and props to the organizers for making it so the bands didn't really overlap, so someone like me could see pretty much every minute if they wanted to (certainly not the case at all festivals). certainly have to mention naragansett beer (pint cans for $2.00), as jeffrey said they were ilke the unofficial sponsor of the weekend.

there's plenty more to be said, but i'll just mention it amused me that bridget st. john ended one of her songs quoting from coldplay's yellow! then she followed that up by playing a devendra banhart song.

looking forward to seeing everyone's photos (even if some of the people constantly stepping over others to take photos got annoying).

Stingy (stingy), Thursday, 27 April 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, my photos are up. If it's simpler, just head to my main sets page. Lots of orientation correction I need to do, a number of not so good shots, but at least they're all organized. In chronological order:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, thanks. Ghost's set looks incredible. Did they mention anything on stage about it being their last US show?

Harpal (harpal), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

Yes but they left the door open to return someday.

JW (ex machina), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Which could mean the twelfth of never.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

They're like the Iron Giant.

The Mercury Krueger (Ex Leon), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Two Scoops (Magic Duster), Thursday, 27 April 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

how was Kemialliset Ystävät's set?

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

ooh, that's a great link scoops.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Jinx -- your question was answered by the previous post.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

actually, kemialliset's set is sadly missing from that link. they were great. Joined on stage by Miriam Goldberg from bf/bs if my whiskey-soaked memory (then, not now) is correct.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

You are right, as my unsoaked memory sez. And we have love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 April 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Avarus are playing live on WFMU in an hour or so.

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Logically, right when I have to be out of the office for a dental appointment. Although what an accompaniment that could make.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
Yay, my Plan B review is up.
