Confounded (Confounded), Friday, 30 December 2005 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Elli$. That's a "token black guy." He didn't actually choose to be there at all. After all, you and I, we really know what black people are like, don't we? We know that other black guy in the background, he's a token, too. If black people don't like what you & I like, they're hardly black at all, are they?

i Believe those blacks are Can Ox and the Camu Tao dood in the size 28 girls Wranglers posted above.

Mr Straight Toxic is obviously unaware that El P keeps severeal large, musty looking black men in his basement to be used for token-black-in-picture purposes when his "i don't care what anybody on the internet sez about Def Jux being a label for mutant crackers in trucker hats and skull t-shirts, Company Flow were thanked on a Gang Starr lp in 1998!!!!" rants start falling on deaf ears when Def Jux's relevance to rap is questioned.

I wonder if Sage and the Asian kid in the sweater tag-teamed that slore in the front row after he finished rapping about enchanted forrests for the evening. I bet the Asian dude straight ripped up that pussy.

copywrite is a seriously dope rapper
el-p is trash on the mic but hes cooked a few good beats and i respect his grind
cage could be brilliant before he went emo - smut peddlers got me thru h.s. and i still go back to the lyrical depth on cuts like 'weather people' but hes a long haired nerd rap fag now
camu tau was the wackest mc in mhz but his sparse thuggish style on the nighthawks collab led to some classic verses
cann ox are wack, sloppy, derivative rappers w/ occasional decent punches that got endlessly dissected by new-jack internet herbs
sage francis is 100% garbage, shit aint even rap music

in conclusion quit tryna be me 4 yrs ago

Ayo, Ethan, as R.P can attest you've been bitin'/plagarizing us original '98 -'01 rap board trolls here on indie rock/euro-techno.com for the past 4 years and are using terms i created by accident 6 years ago like "nerd-rap" in this very thread.

We Don King-ed the original Def Jux/white rapper backlash and orchestrated Cage getting herbed on air, El P justifying his relevance to rap before taking his message board down in a fit of rage and Vordul getting knocked out at his own show over 5 years ago..

..you are some hick who writes for indie rock websites, who "got through hs by listening to Smut Peddlers" and who got his head gassed up from the lames on this site by having slightly better taste in rap than utterly clueless bitchmade jewish rap fans from Minnesota like Nate Patrin

Play yer position here, lil' man

Karp ruled.

Worst Case Scenario were probably the last great hardcore band of the 90s before the whole scene turned lame. The 7" on Lookout is probably their best release. I was also at that show in R.I. Very underrated group.

Young Ginns were, at best, decent.

Unwound wise, i'm a "new plastic ideas" and all the 7" s around that time (teh one on Gravity, "m.k ultra"/"totality" and the one on Troubleman) kinda guy.

I never checked the Replikants.

Mr Straight Toxic (ghostface), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

Legends of the Liquid Swords is awesome! Luminal is amazing!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Legends of a LS is really good - I mean, as long as you know what yr getting into going into it (rhymes caught up in Juice Crew-style, GZA always sounded like a throwback even in '95 I think, the gimmick track like "Animal Planet," low budget beats). But "Knock Knock," "Autobio," "Stay in Line," "Animal Planet" and the title track destroy.

Reviews of the Little Brother album have been really unfair. I donno I bought the Listening back when that dropped, I remember some big controversy after HHI gave it a negative review back when HHI existed. MORE RAP MESSAGE BOARD DRAMA. And I liked it quite a bit. But I never really pulled it out in the intervening years, and I kinda wish the beats moved beyond the latter-day tribe/jay dee/pete rock axis they rock just because i think they would definitely benefit from some more mercenary (pop) production. But yeah Minstrel Show's negative reviews seem rather unjustified, like they are being forced to pay the price for rap reviewers who wish they'd taken Cash Money as seriously as Rawkus. Or maybe it just isn't trendy, I donno.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

haha in mid 2004 the shitty uk rap mag hip-hop connection "discovered" the south and started doin shit like spend a whole charizma review on how the "absolutely fantastic" lil flip kills anything on the stones throw label & they actually even did a cash money vs rawkus feature a while back

$#@!!!!, Wednesday, 4 January 2006 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kinda glad HHC does that though, because at least it pisses off the majority of their readers who'll write in and be all "WHY IS THERE NO 24 PAGE ARTICLE ON BRAINTAX IN THIS ISSUE?"

I didnt like the Buckshot album much at all. Even if you like 9th Wonder, dude does not sound good over jay dee snares.
BTW best songs on Minstrel Show are "Hiding Place" and "Slow it Down." I thought the Big Shug album was fun, if you like DJ Premier beats that could have dropped any time in the last 15 years.

$#@#!!!!, Thursday, 5 January 2006 01:03 (nineteen years ago)

that's the beauty of that dj premier beats. it's like that line from dazed & confused when the dude says "that's what i like about high school girls - i keep getting older, they stay the same age".

all white dude edition, in descending sales order-
Felt Felt 2 23,176 7/2/2005

http://www.allhiphop.com/CelebImages/feat_murs.gif
yeah I know Murs is probably not the reason a lotta people bought the Felt record but still.

(also I would play the "Slug is like totally mixed and shit" card but even the dude who does the college radio rap show up in Mpls. didn't know until recently.)

disco violence (disco violence), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:10 (nineteen years ago)

Murs sounds a lot like Aceyalone.
I listened to the new Aceyalone album all-prod. by RJD2 and I don't remember liking it too much which is sad because I love old Ace1 and I'm an RJD2 fan too, more or less.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

and I think I got a promo of that RA CD and never found anyone who'd run a review; it's got "Black and White" on it so that alone would have me leaning positive.

xp I haven't listened too hard to the Aceyalone album yet but (a) the beats seem good at first listen and (b) the accompanying press kit has a photo of RJ where he totally looks like the lost member of Franz Ferdinand

disco violence (disco violence), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

i usedta fuck w/ acey & i love rjd2 when he actually makes beats instead of fake dj shadow or rock music but that new cd is the worst shit ever

HAKKEBOFFER (eman), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:37 (nineteen years ago)

Haha I know Scratch said that Nas + Premo promised to do an album together but I don't see it happening. I'll check it out, right after I check out the Rakim and Dre album.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 5 January 2006 02:38 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that whole article seemed pretty desperate and forced, like even in the interviews they were kinda shrugging like "sure...it could happen". I love Scratch but I guess it was a matter of time until they needed to shart shoehorning rappers who don't even pretend to produce on the cover.

also, the KKK is an organization predicated on the belief that whites are superior to blacks, and that black culture is inferior to white culture; Sage Francis is a white underground rapper participating in a culture that's essentially black, so to conflate him with the Klan betrays either a total lack of understanding about the nature of the Klan, southern history, American history in general & rap music, or a willful desire to misrepresent same

Fuck around and you gonna get Vordulled outta the game, lil' nigger

..it all started in 1997 of course. a little nobody netcee called Fard Muhammad Jeagraves did an inflammatory rhyme entitled "JESUS CHRIST IS A LIE" in order to drum up controversy and make people notice him. In all likelihood, it all would have died out after a month ro two and he'd have been relegated to being the footnote in internet ip-Hop history he desere to be.

Instead, I battled him.

At the time, I was in the duel role of beig the big hero at Sethro's and the big villain at Davey D's (bear with me here, netceeing was just a tad bit dramatic back in the olden days). Becuse of this, when I battle Fard, it instantly transformed him into a hero at Davey's, one of the most popular guys there. He used that shine to start his own site, Fard's Temple. In '99, he converted the Temple into Hip Hop Infinity, dropped the Muslim act and because Jay Seagraves The Angry Atheist, and moved into the big time as the wemaster of a major indie Hip-Hop site.

And so for eight or so years now, I've been carrying the weight of responsibility for this megalomaniacal buffoon with the temperment of a small child's continued paticipation in the internet Hip-Hop arena. But now...sweet, sweet freedom...

Now I wonder how he's gonna do in that election running on the "If you're not an atheist, you're an idiot" ticket...

I'm not buying it from Wayne, he's way more just plain "dumb" then he is "avante guard" or "strange". We all have known that guy who is as dumb as a pile of bricks, who would get stoned and say crazy off the wall shit. That guy isn't a genius, he's slow and his brain can't handle deep thoughts so it spits out random nuggets of nonsense that HAPPEN to be funny. Wayne is the rap equivalent to that guy.

There's no argument here that he has vastly improved since he first came out with the Cash Money Millionaires but even with that improvement, he's still just Lil Wayne.
