Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 22 June 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going! Woo! The idea that I'm going to see Iggy Pop at Butlins is cheering me up on miserable days.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Oh my, the Dead C indeed!

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 22 June 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

I am excited about the Dead C too, I must say.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

I may end up at this. :-)

How does a ferret get invisible, then? (kate), Thursday, 22 June 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

You should PLAY at this!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'll just have my sisX0r ask her buddy Thurston... :-P

(As it is, I'm going to have to be smuggled in in her baggage.)

How does a ferret get invisible, then? (kate), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

It just occurred to me that the only "rawk" music covered by The Wire apparently must first be SY-approved.

Thomas Inskeep (submeat), Thursday, 22 June 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

drool, i hope i can do this. somebody give me some cash

rizzx (Rizz), Thursday, 22 June 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

When will ATP branch out of their circle jerk

Persecuted Decals (ex machina), Thursday, 22 June 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

no shit

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Thursday, 22 June 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

AT LEAST NEGATIVE APPROACH IS PLAYIN'

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 22 June 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

surely atp is a circle jerk by definition?

i'm going to this. that whole wanting to see virtually everyone and there being three stages thing will surely make me kill myself.

Merdeyeux Merdeyeux Merdeyeux (Merdeyeux Merdeyeux Merdeyeux), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, this is in the UK? When is it? NEGATIVE APPROACH!!!!!!!!!!! Shit I might be in the US when this is on, I'm going to be in LA for Xmas.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

It's 8-10 December, and yes, it's in the UK at Butlins Minehead.

I'm going! YAY!

Andie B (andie b), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

No "Boredoms"/Sleater-Kinney, no credibility.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

i think that line up is fairly dull actually. they should get barry esson to programme it, he has less limited taste than thurston moore.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 June 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

btw dudes y'all should get the negative approach dvd.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Selling out fast, I do believe (ATP, that is, I have no idea about the Negative Approach DVD). I'm not as enthused about the overall line-up as I could be, but, y'know, I could think of worse ways to spend a weekend :-)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

Why even bother complaining? There's barely even a crappy band on the bill.

strom (strom), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, why bother having an opinion! Everything's great! I love everything!

Barely a crappy band, yeah, but lots of good does not always equal awesome.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

My Cat Is An Alien were utter crap when i saw them. i didn't think this would be your type of thing at all ailsa.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

Stop judging Belle and Sebastian fans by your pre-conceptions!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

Has Bardo Pond played every ATP? Deerhoof?

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 22 June 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

bardo pond is on the atp label, shasta.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 June 2006 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

They must be the house band.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 22 June 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

I heard a rumor that the reason the Killers will not be appearing is because it was determined by the big-ups that they were "not artistic enough."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 22 June 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

aw

Marmot 4-Tay: forth-coming, my child. forth-coming most righteous champion (mar, Thursday, 22 June 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

tim ellison y u so crazy? dat barry guy can't afford der guarantee.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 22 June 2006 22:00 (nineteen years ago)

I heard a rumor that the reason the Killers will not be appearing is because it was determined by the big-ups that they were "not artistic enough."

read some anecdote about how Thurston was "bummed out" after hearing The Rapture. remembering that anecdote made me smile double wide when i found the "house of jealous lovers" single in his dollar bin during the wfmu record fair.

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Thursday, 22 June 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

Has Bardo Pond played every ATP? Deerhoof?

They played the first one I went to six years ago and none in the UK since. Deerhoof have done one or two before.

I don't actively hate anyone on this bill and like a whole lot of it. I think I have tickets purchased for me already

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 22 June 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

weird there's no be your own pet on this

brokenfuses (brokenfuses), Friday, 23 June 2006 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

the Skaters were awesomely awesome when I saw them at Subcurrent earlier this year

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 23 June 2006 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

DKT MC5 FEATURING MARK ARM

- I'm not embarrassed to admit that I truly love Mark Arm with every bone in my head. That could actually be pretty entertaining (um, what's, um, DKT mean though, um?)

NickB (NickB), Friday, 23 June 2006 08:54 (nineteen years ago)

DKT = (Michael)Davis (Wayne)Kramer (Dennis)Thompson = "MC3"

m coleman (lovebug starski), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:10 (nineteen years ago)

Oh of course, yeah. Surprisingly light on thee free jazz this line-up eh? Has Thurston gone off the free jazz boil? Not that I'm going anyway, but it'd be great to see stuff like Daniel Carter on that bill.

NickB (NickB), Friday, 23 June 2006 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Amazing! Now the lineup kicks so much ass it's ridonkulous.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Monday, 3 July 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

pity it's on the same weekend as the transmusicales in france, which is always a sure date too...

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 3 July 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

!! is that the first uk nww gig, like, ever?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 3 July 2006 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

incredible, i'm glad my chalet is booked!

rizzx (Rizz), Monday, 3 July 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

toby, nww played a few Brit gigs right at the start of their career but it must be at least 20 years since stapleton has appeared under that name in the UK

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

last time i saw the dead c i tried to convince mike morley to reunite wreck small speakers

chris andrews (fraew), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

"Barely a crappy band, yeah, but lots of good does not always equal awesome."

Lots of good + chalet parties + all-night escapades + rainy, desolate december beaches = awesome.

And anyway, Richard Youngs = awesome x brilliant x ace.

braveclub (braveclub), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

Lots of good + chalet parties + all-night escapades + rainy, desolate december beaches = awesome.

Which is why I'm going! I said I wasn't as enthused with the line-up as I could have been, but I'm still looking forward to it.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

i am all booked up and stuff. hoorah.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

apparently dinosaur jr., gang of four, and be your own pet are playing now as well. it's on the official site - http://www.atpfestival.com/events/nightmare/

Stingy (stingy), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

ugh. Thurston Moore's label is such shit. first be your own pet, now Awesome Color, he really does have crap taste

kevin barking (arghargh), Thursday, 6 July 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

So do I then I suppose cos I quite like Be Your Own Pet. Never heard of Awesome Color though.

ARGH SHIT BOLLOCKS 2 bed chalets have sold out :'(

Any ILX0rs fancy sharing???

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

i may be able to sort you out with some friends of an ilxor (ie me) since 2 beds are sold out. i already booked a 2 bed for myself and kat, but we have some pals that want to go, and it looks like they're gonna need some sharers too...

i'll talk to them and see what's up.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Thursday, 6 July 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

ATP is so boring now

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Thursday, 6 July 2006 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

please explain why you say that

rizzx (Rizz), Thursday, 6 July 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

It's a basically an All-American TOTP. There's a lot of bands worth seeing there, but a lot of those bands have played here in the last while, or at least recently enough that I feel hesitant about forking out 100quid to go, anyway. But I can see why people would go. Especially if you live somewhere shit. This is the first one I've even considered getting a ticket for in a while anyhow.

Wolf Eyes/Dead C playing mini-golf?

ZOT! (davidcorp), Thursday, 6 July 2006 20:30 (nineteen years ago)

a lot of those bands have played here in the last while

vs

nww played a few Brit gigs right at the start of their career but it must be at least 20 years since stapleton has appeared under that name in the UK

That's why I buy tickets early for ATP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 6 July 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

there's a small chance that I'll be in Engerland visiting fam during this time, and an even smaller chance that i could afford tickets to this. however, if anyone's got a spare, lemme know.

re: ATP = boring. well, i live in MT, and get zero (0) chances to see any of these bands basically ever.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 6 July 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

>>i may be able to sort you out with some friends of an ilxor (ie me) since 2 beds are sold out. i already booked a 2 bed for myself and kat, but we have some pals that want to go, and it looks like they're gonna need some sharers too...

That would be great, thanks a lot!

Out of the line-up the only bands I've previously seen are Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Magik Markers & Iggy (minus the Stooges).

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 7 July 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

ayyy all the two people rooms are sold out.
anyone want to share a chalet? haha

emma cleveland (emma cleveland), Friday, 7 July 2006 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome Color are pretty damn great.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 7 July 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

I saw SY/Awesome Color at the Moore, which sadly is a bit lacking in the proper-sound department, so neither band sounded as good as they could have.

Steve, what do you hear in Awesome Color? Haven't heard any releases, granted, and their really short live set was kinda eh... the only entertainment value was the occasional frontman with the HAND THAT BITES THE AIR, RAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

They've got that cinch-tight Ypsi/AnnArbor groove going, but with some choice Spaceman 3 refs.

I think that guest singer was the lead guy's brother (?) who just flew out for the west coast shows to do some like bowie/iggy/cy fixx thing.

I saw them in a tiny club (40-50 people), maybe that made a difference.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

He's not a regular? Bummers. Well, hopefully he will become one. And yeah, I think the venue size made them seem, for lack of a better phrase, less of a "wow", if that makes sense. (Then again, while I like the Moore Theater's space, I really dislike the cavernous sound, so every band probably seems less effective there...)

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

This sound issue did end up enhancing SY's encore of "Expressway", though. Wow.

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Friday, 7 July 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

ayyy all the two people rooms are sold out.

my pic for yours. just off charing cross rd. discreet.

ZOT! (davidcorp), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

I'm still waiting for the actual tickets to physically arrive (Seetickets sent me an email saying they may not arrive until 5 days before the event WTF???). Did have another ILX0r who was interested but they seem to have disappeared, and it's getting a bit close to the event now so I have to offer them up again.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Which means I guess I'm too late... If I can really classify myself as an ILX0r. I can get some letters of recommendation if required!

myopic_voided (myopic_void), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

This is mainly for the info of the Glasgow ILXors (obv) who are attending the NBC - I think I'm going to bk a space on this bus (sorry to read upthread that grimly can't get the time off, wld've been excellent):

BUS FROM GLASGOW

Please read below for details of bus from Glasgow to ATP organised by Gary Thoms:

---------------------------------------------------
Hello,

I'm looking to organise a bus to this coming ATP Nightmare Before Xmas, running from Glasgow city centre. I ran one at the last ATP (weekend 2) and things went pretty smoothly, excepting some major traffic hold-ups and an idiotic driver, but these flaws will be ironed out (well the driver will be better... no mortal, god or politician can cotrol the roads) and I'm hoping to have it organised early this year to aid this. I'm fielding interest to make sure it's viable before I book anything, but I'm pretty optimistic as early signs indicate there'll be enough people.

As far as I can tell, the new site is a bit easier to get to from Scotland - no M-fucking-25, no London traffic, but a straight road down through Birmingham then along, with good old Autoroute projecting it as 6hrs 18 mins driving from Glasgow (so probably about 7 or 8 hours in a bus). The train or plane doesn't look like being much quicker and will be more expensive, so I feel the bus is a viable option again for those of us stuck in the north. The bus will probably run from George Square again, and will more than likely leave around that time where drunks are hovering around the city centre ("you'll need to be more specific than that," comes the cynical chorus)... midnight or thereabouts. This will depend on the final ATP schedule, and I'll keep all involved completely up to date.

As with last time, it'll totally depend on costs and numbers whether it's at all viable, but I know a good few people were well up for getting the bus again, and I'm quite happy to run it again, what with much of the initial work already done last time. I can also guarantee that it would be more efficient than last time, and that the bus will be much better: I'm making sure this is organised as early as possible, as to avoid getting lumbered with a hopeless bus company again. Again, I'd be aiming for under £40 per bum, but it'll depend on the numbers - more people to share the cost, the less it is. I should reiterate this isn't a capitalist venture - I ended up paying an extra £50 last time to cover a cancellation... hence I'm trying to get things sorted earlier, to avoid such pitfalls.

Anyway if you are interested, want to chuck your hat in or just want to ask a few more details, just pop me an email at gary.thoms at gmail.com.

Cheers

Gary

Oh, I just booked our flights last week :-(

(they were very cheap though, and it means not sitting on a bus for hours)

Grimly had MILLIONS of opportunities to change his mind/resign his job/pull rank on his minions. Yet he chose not to. I'm going to phone/text him every five minutes going "we're having a fucking top time, dude, bet you wish you were here, eh?" until he kills me.

Ailsa, I thought of you first time I saw the bus but got home to find the email saying you'd booked your flights. Plus it will be quicker.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 5 October 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

i'm waiting on my freebie, but no it doesn't include accomodation. i'm looking to crash with peeps. i know a ton of the people playing tho, so we'll see. ward, if you could ask, that'd be cool, let me know!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Get drunk, collapse on the sofa of whoever's chalet you are partying in, lather, rinse, repeat.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

that's the idea, yeah. i kinda want to have something nailed down tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

Or someONE. That'd guaranteed you a bed...

(sorry)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

ATP seems a touch cliquey?
How does a true music lover become a member - besides from cobbling together 136 like minded friends (yer right)- or being a member/ relative- musician's union - bum chum squad - sycophantic journo?
Yeah, Im not invited. Green as fuck.

Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountain Dog (Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountai), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

Er, you buy a ticket?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks for the spot on advice ailsa, but I cannot afford a chalet. I'm not as popular and friended as you.

Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountain Dog (Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountai), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

You need precisely ONE friend to get a two-person chalet*. Also, there are message boards and stuff where you can arrange to share with folks in a similar predicament.

*Though the idea of a 137-person chalet sounds awesome.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

I'd just like to say that Gary is my flatmate and as Glasgow FAPPER y'all can trust me when I say he is an upstanding gent and this bus will rock!

Sorry I've been drinking, I've got a new job and am happy!

Stew (stew s), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

You said that the other day too! Is your job as a professional boozehound?

(Is Gary the Gary who used to be the drummer in Astrid - I'm pretty sure he is? He used to be friends with my old flatmates from about ten years ago! Small world!!!)

Thanks Stence.
Next year when/if I can beat my 'asshat' tendencies I may have enough resources to get myself a chalet.

Probably in Filey.

Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountain Dog (Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountai), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

"Is Gary the Gary who used to be the drummer in Astrid - I'm pretty sure he is?"

Er, no! Sorry Ailsa! Where'd you get that idea?

Well, I'm just relishing the fact that I've got one more day of my tedious and poorly paid HBOS temp job left so I can get away with going into work hungover! Thing is the day actually goes a lot quicker if you're fully awake and working hard. Oh well, nevermind.

Anyway, my new job is a media researcher. Hurrah, I'm finally working in the right field, three years after my post-grad.

Stew (stew s), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

By the way, if anyone here is in marketing or advertising...kill yourself. Thank you. Just planting seeds, planting seeds is all I'm doing. No joke here, really. Seriously, kill yourself, you have no rationalisation for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show. Seriously, I know the marketing people: 'There's gonna be a joke comin' up.' There's no fuckin' joke. Suck a tail pipe, hang yourself...borrow a pistol from an NRA buddy, do something...rid the world of your evil fuckin' bLOW UP DOLLS. All I want to do is get to thurston's Chrimbo bash

Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountain Dog (Jessie the Drunk Dutch Mountai), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

Stew (stew s), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

Grimly had MILLIONS of opportunities to change his mind/resign his job/pull rank on his minions. Yet he chose not to. I'm going to phone/text him every five minutes going "we're having a fucking top time, dude, bet you wish you were here, eh?" until he kills me.

fuckofffuckofffuckofffuckoff. i am really, really fucking wishing i'd sorted this out right now. HOWEVER, IT IS TOO LATE, AND I AM DRUNK, AND IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. still. fuck.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 October 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

there's probably no worse thing that i can think of then the fact that bill hicks somehow got popular among the british.

Bill Hicks played the UK a LOT and was often on TV over here, annoying Britishes asshats have been quoting his routines for YEARS

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Friday, 6 October 2006 07:50 (nineteen years ago)

My home internet connection is fucked at the moment, so haven't had much chance to ILX this week (work's busy, argh), but my offer of 2 places in our 4 bed chalet still stands (with afarrell & davidcorp currently in 1st & 2nd place for refusal). Email me if you want them! I'm not looking for a profit, just face value + share of booking fee (=£125 a ticket).

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 6 October 2006 10:04 (nineteen years ago)

ah the 12th is when i get back to new york. oh well, seeing the dead c. once will be enough!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

Stence, this is what my friend emailed me back:

The press deal I managed to get onto seems to be either a ticket for
the festival but no accommodation or a bed in a hotel/chalet in a separate area.

If you know other people who want to go we may be able to get another
press ticket or two, but if there's no accommodation with it, the floor might
end up getting a bit cramped!

Don't think this is any help to you - I think she is right that we are not going to have any spare space in our chalet - sorry

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

i'm more worried about the ticket than the chalet space. but i'm not really worried about either. will get in somehow. and will sleep somehow.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 October 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Er, no! Sorry Ailsa! Where'd you get that idea?

I thought that was his name! Googling, it appears it was G4ry Th0rn. Close, but no cigar. Congrats on the new job!

I'm still wondering exactly what makes Jessie angrily think that people here haven't just bought tickets to a gig they want to go to, same as he should have done if he wanted to go so much.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 October 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

In fact better googling shows it to be G4ry Th0m. Which is pretty much what I thought, which explains my confusion. Oh well.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 7 October 2006 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

BUMP!

Anyone been to ATP before know if the 4 bed chalets actually have 4 beds in them? Or 2 doubles?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

This one is at a new venue, so who knows?

Joe Grassby (sloejoe), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm guessing it's a double and two singles, given that for the rest of the year it's a holiday camp for families.

ONIMO's lips can't feel! (GerryNemo), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

>> This one is at a new venue, so who knows?

Good point. Forgot about that. Although it's always been at Butlins right? I imagine they probably have similar set up at each of their camps?

>> I'm guessing it's a double and two singles, given that for the rest of the year it's a holiday camp for families.

Yeah that could be OK. Just if it's 2 doubles that'll be a bit shit.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

Nah, 4 beds means 4 beds.
This venue is a whole lot more plush than Camber Sands...

Ruairi Wirewool (Ruairi Wirewool), Friday, 20 October 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Camber Sands is Pontins not Butlins.

There's no way it's four beds in a four-bed chalet, as pointed out already it's a holiday camp for families so it's bound to be a double and two singles. I've only been in a six-person one before and that was a double and four single beds - double in the living room and two rooms with two beds each.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 21 October 2006 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

Two more additions to the bill:
Ashtray Navigations
Mats Gustaffson + eYe (Boredoms)

Is that everything?

Rombald (rombald), Monday, 23 October 2006 08:52 (nineteen years ago)

joy! rapture! etc!

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Monday, 23 October 2006 10:35 (nineteen years ago)

Tickets allegedly posted yesterday.

There's some bizarro thing going on with the bands though - although Sonic Youth and the Stooges are playing twice each you only get to see one and the colour of band you have dictates when. STOP FUCKING WITH A FORMAT THAT WORKS.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 23 October 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure it does work. several times at ATP people have been prevented from seeing bands due to overcrowding. the last time shellac curated, they played twice but we missed out both times. enabling everyone to see the bigger bands at least once has got to be a good thing.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

Were they really turning people away from Shellac upstairs last time? In which case I take it back. I knew there had sometimes been problems with bands big enough to play upstairs playing downstairs (Shellac the year they curated on their own, the Fall that year too), but I'd never heard of it associated with upstairs.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

come to think of it, it may just have been downstairs. maybe I missed the second shellac set for other reasons. memory fails me.

but it's at a new venue this year...maybe it's not so big or they've sold more tickets, or both.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's the latter - they've split watching SY/Stooges into two 3000 strong sessions. How many people used to be at Camber?

The bigger concern is that this could make some of the other bands (Dinosaur, maybe?) harder to get into. And make the D3ATP unpleasant at times.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 23 October 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

i got my tix last week. huzzah.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

Is it "Sonic Youth on one stage/Stooges on the other" both times so no-one misses anything else due to having the wrong wristband?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

I believe so. Anyway, despite what Foundation say, Stargreen have not sent out any tickets yet.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

BUMP!

Still have 2 spare tickets going in a 4-bed chalet (did have a couple of potential buyers but that's fallen through). Anyone interested?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 6 November 2006 11:15 (nineteen years ago)

WHY YOU BRAEK WALLET ALL TIME.

I guess I'm going to have to go search other music boards for people. I would just put the tix on Ebay but scared if I do ATP will void them as the tickets have some kind of DO NOT AUCTION OR ELSE message on them.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

i have a free pass but could use a place to crash still.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 18:18 (nineteen years ago)

Have you tried mentioning it on ILE, as you may find festival-going types over there who don't read ILM?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 00:13 (nineteen years ago)

I still need/want a ticket! I tried mailing using the ILX mail feature thing, but I guess that didn't work. I'll try direct....

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

Any ILXORS wanna party down with me?

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:07 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe. Do you like me?

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Possibly. If you and your press pass aren't too cool and cliquey for the plebs who had to buy tickets (see tosser upthread for reference).

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

I only got a press pass because I was too uncool to book tickets in due time like a normal man.

I like all ilxors!

Hairy Asshurt (Toaster), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

Saturday lunchtime FAP agane? Since I knows nothing about the site or area, shalls we make it somewhere on site?

(Potential decision making info: Manchester derby, but Andrew doesn't like pubs with football IIRC)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Great! Anytimes, anywheres.

teh_kit returns! (g-kit), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone know if I am likely to find anywhere with Setanta Sports to watch the Celtic game on the Sunday (unlikely, I guess)?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Gerry watched the Celtic game with Mogwai instead of seeing Shellac one year, but that was at Camber. There's still a chance though, probably, as it doesn't clash with an FA Prem game (Chelsea/Arsenal at 4).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yowza. Sunday afternoon = no bands for me!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Butlins and Pontins tend to be pretty good for sports channels, by the nature of their typical clientele I guess

Feargal Hixxy (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but I'm wondering about the likelihood of sports channels being on by the nature of their temporary clientele.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

From the ATP website (usually full of shite, but this reads like a Butlins blurb so I'm tempted to believe it):

HotShots - Accessed from the Skyline, Full sports Bar with Big Screens for sport, pool, snooker, the latest video games, (extra charge) Darts and home of the 10 pin Bowling.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

No air hockey? :(

Feargal Hixxy (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

There's bound to be, it's not a holiday camp without it.

they probably figure people will head back to london sunday, is my bet.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 15 November 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

I'm hoping that's not in order of play, just in case there's any delays getting in on Friday - if I miss Melvins, Dead C and Flipper I'll be gutted!
