Top 3 for me (favorite moments):
1. the Flaming Lips (in 1994-1995 with Roland Jones, twice at tiny shank hall where the guitar interplay between Coyne and Jones made manifest the interconnection of all things)
2. Pavement (in 1994, during “Range Life,” when about 2,000 of us shouted along, "Don't worry, we're in no hurry!")
3. Beck (I gues '94 was my year. It was a $7 show, and packed to the gills. He would play 3 or 4 songs acoustic, solo, then 3 or 4 electric, with a band. The crowd was body surfing during the acoustic numbers. Electric, it was up for grabs! People were jumping onto the speakers from the balcony. Then onto to the stage, brushing past Beck, and diving into the crowd. Beck stood there unfazed, dilivering his insane heavy insane metal insane glory)

After about half an hour of scratching my head and checking the web for various Reading and Glastonbury festival line-ups, I reached 100+ (not including local bands etc.) before I gave up.
Most of these were the consequence of festival attendances, regular local (Reading) appearances, support-act appearances and just stupid meaningless coincidences (hence e.g. my list would have to include Anti Nowhere League, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sham 69, Senseless Things and U2).

I've just remembered I saw loads of mates' bands gigs or mates of mates' bands gigs in and around Camden in the mid-90s, some of which became semi-famous (Lo-Fidelity All Stars, Ultrasound, Campag Velocet).

How about bands seen three times or more on the same tour, Grateful Dead not allowed?

Way back when, the Gun Club and Black Flag four or five times each. And the Viletones probably about 15-20.

i am interested in figuring out who the violinist Tarfumes saw w/Tony Oxley was
― sarahel, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 09:46 (thirteen years ago)
It was Andreas Schreiber. Fred Anderson was supposed to join them for a set, but didn't (not sure why; I don't remember him being there at all). The next night was a trio with Oxley, Schreiber, and pianist Dieter Glawischnig. Anderson was supposed to be on this bill too, but wasn't.

Yo La TengoLambchopTortoiseMasada, Electric Masada, some other Zorn projects including a Cobra performance
lots and lots of jazz/improv people in various band configurations -- Brotzmann, Vandermark, et al. If one person plays five different shows over the course of a five-day festival, does it count as one or five?

Dial that back a couple of years and I'd cosign; there was a period from 1988 onward where my best friend and I would often get to 3 gigs a week. Oh gilded youth...
