about the radiohead thing, also: i've always wondered this myself. i think that when it comes down to it, Radiohead are a very 'approved' group among many groups-- i mean, their shows aren't exactly like DMB or Jack Johnson shows, but here are the similarities:
- they are nearly always in huge venues with one or two openers who, by all rights, should probably be the headliners
- people tailgate Bud Ice, frat-party style and vomit is everywhere
- there are lots of singalongs and bad dancing
- light displays and large LED screens (for the people with lawn seats) are ubiquitous
- frisbees.

but at a radiohead concert, there are also more weird pale uni students, more black, more thick-rimmed frames, etc. they're a real equalizer of a group. i mean, i still know all of the lyrics on "the bends" by heart, and i haven't listened to that album (or radiohead) for almost five years.

crooked still:

I love the band. I've seen them 6 times and met them in my teen years. I don't understand how they possibily come close to appealing to everyone, everywhere, though. Does it make people sound cool? Apparently not, since the other two oft-cited choices are shit Coldplay and U2 :(

some people get similar things out of radiohead that they get out of u2 and coldplay. i personally don't think they're that similar (specially not coldplay) but there we are. muse do sound like a really shit radiohead though.
