max, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

The beat on "What'z Ya Phone #" is sick. Almost voted for "Ambition Az A Ridah" though.

what tracks dont you like on cd1?

max, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

i like all the tracks really its just kinda different moods and shit, like when you wanna hear all about u is not the same as when you wanna hear life goes on or the weak california love remix

and what, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

o yeah the sequencing does kinda suck.

max, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

and that california love remix is really ugh

max, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

Can't C Me has one of the ten best Dre productions evah, and that line, "My own mama say I'm thugged out/My shit be poppin' out the record stores as if it was a drug house." 2Pac sounding so intense.

talrose, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 19:36 (eighteen years ago)

Cali love remix is classic if only for the Troutman vocoder a capella at the end. Anyway, "How Do U Want It", (best summer song ever?) followed by "Ambitionz az a Ridah" & "Heartz of Men"

The Reverend, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

My favourite hip-hop album ever!

Voted "Can't C Me" but there are lots of really great G-funk tracks here. Shame about the rapping, but the rest of the music is great.

This is God's will. And everybody that said I wasn't nothing...my whole goal is to just make them ashamed that they wrote me off like that. Because I'm 23 years old. And I might just be my mother's child, but in all reality, I'm everybody's child. You know what I'm saying? Nobody raised me; I was raised in this society. But I'm not going to use that as an excuse no more. I'm going to pull myself up by my bootstraps, and I'm going to make a change. And my change is going to make a change through the community. And through that, they gonna see what type of person I truly was. Where my heart was. This Thug Life stuff, it was just ignorance. My intentions was always in the right place. I never killed anybody, I never raped anybody, I never committed no crimes that weren't honorable-that weren't to defend myself. So that's what I'm going to show them. I'm going to show people my true intentions, and my true heart. I'm going to show them the man that my mother raised. I'm going to make them all proud.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, T.I. compared the album to 2Pac's return-from-prison release, All Eyez On Me, and that he would refrain from gun talk on the release.

Planned collaborations for the album include Kid Rock, The-Dream, Trey Songz, and chart-toppers Lady Gaga and Eminem.

welcome back, ma$ed god (The Reverend), Sunday, 22 August 2010 06:51 (fifteen years ago)

I love 2 of Amerika's Most Wanted -- Snoop's verse is hot, the interplay between the two is golden.

I still think "I Got My Mind Made Up" is my favorite, granted Pac barely appears but the beat is more droney than R&B, and I love Method Man's verse (excluding the inappropriate nazi metaphor that gets edited). Plus Redman's quip about nonbelievers getting his dick and genital backwards.

first disc is better than the second but even the second has "Hollah at Me", "Shorty Wanna be a thug", "check out time". one of the rare rap double albums I played nonstop when it came out.

That snare is more of a splash than a snare, cool sound tho. I love the snare on Got My Mind Made Up, which for about 3 years was my favorite song off AEOM.

RANDOM FACT:

did you know that Inspectah Deck did the last verse on that song but it was cut cos they thought the song was too long, hence the "I N S the rebel" at the end before it fades out.

This is supposedly it:

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 5 September 2020 18:42 (five years ago)

yeah, sonically it's stunning. thematically, lyrically, it's probably his masterwork.

just the first notes of "Ambitionz as a Ridah" are enough to get me amped.

I still love the abstract west coast vs east coast lyricism of "I Got My Mind Made Up", with a relative who's who of guests on it, the lyrics of each verse I can still recite from memory.

"Holla at Me" has a great chorus too.

Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 September 2020 21:08 (five years ago)

i love this album so much

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:30 (five years ago)

you're otm about "i got my mind made up" neanderthal. just stacked with one amazing verse on top of the next

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:31 (five years ago)

the verses literally run through my head once a week, still.

especially Meth's

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:41 (five years ago)

even Kurupt is a bit, uhh, less gangster and more lyrical than usual

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 September 2020 00:42 (five years ago)

play Russian roulette and have a blast

brimstead, Saturday, 19 September 2020 01:30 (five years ago)

brimstead, Saturday, 19 September 2020 01:31 (five years ago)

also like Redman's "non-believers get my dick and genital backwards"

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 September 2020 01:31 (five years ago)

guessin' "wonder Why they Call Ya Bitch" didn't age too well

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 September 2020 01:32 (five years ago)

we should re-poll this, zero votes for the title track or "2 of amerikkkaz" or "life goes on" is insane to me

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Thursday, 1 September 2022 15:12 (three years ago)

2 of Amerikkaz and Life Goes ON shoulda gotten votes, yeah.

my local soccer team won last night, dramatically, so I put on my hip hop playlist and was looking for the right celebratory anthem, and I kept skipping and "Ambitions as a Ridah" came on and my choice was made.

calstars, Thursday, 1 September 2022 23:45 (three years ago)

fascinating to me that ambitionz is his most streamed song on spotify. it wasnt even a single.

daz killed every song he produced on that album. skandalouz sounds like quik had a hand in it.

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:22 (three years ago)

i love the mix of guests on this album

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 00:30 (three years ago)

ambitionz is constantly referenced and interpolated, it’s embedded itself in the rap firmament

it’s still def surprising that it has so many more streams than california love

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 2 September 2022 00:58 (three years ago)

"Ambitions" forever

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 September 2022 01:01 (three years ago)

if im being honest with myself i dont think i have it in my top 5 on the album. prob in that 7-10 range

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:03 (three years ago)

for me it’s “heartz of men”

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 2 September 2022 01:05 (three years ago)

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 01:14 (three years ago)

first song on a sprawling double album and people have no attention span these days - idk seems reasonable to me

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 2 September 2022 02:13 (three years ago)

That doesn’t seem to be enough of a reason. Was it used in a show or as a TikTok trend or something?

Spottie, Friday, 2 September 2022 03:36 (three years ago)

I heard it on the radio yesterday.

BrianB, Friday, 2 September 2022 11:46 (three years ago)

... on a throwback jamz station but it was still a pleasant surprise.

BrianB, Friday, 2 September 2022 11:50 (three years ago)

I think a lotta people also retro learned about it after the Fabolous single with same hook came out

and the worms, they entered his ass (Neanderthal), Friday, 2 September 2022 14:36 (three years ago)

it’s an all time opener, that’s for sure. Although I can’t decide if it’s better than “if I die tonight”

brimstead, Friday, 2 September 2022 18:41 (three years ago)

It's a fucking incredible track, 2Pac at his best.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 September 2022 18:43 (three years ago)

Ambitionz was on Grand Theft Auto 5
