"Work It" isn't that radio remix that interpolated "Back In Black" right? They never got the rights to actually release that. I'd vote for the remix, but instead I guess I'll vote for "Pop."

i'm voting 'cry me a river'

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

This is... hard. I will think about it, but already I'm leaning for what goes around...

I know, right?, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

What is "Love Don't Love Me"???

danzig, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

It's an awesome track from the Bad Boys II soundtrack.

Tape Store, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

christ that's tough between "Like I Love You," "Rock Your Body" and "SexyBack". I went with LILY.

The Good Dr. Bill, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

lovestoned... highlight of his career

gman, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'd probably vote for "Girlfriend" if it was the original, Nelly remix kind of ruins the perfection of the original. As is, I'm torn between "Gone," "Rock Your Body," "I'm Lovin' It," "Signs," and "My Love." Which means I haven't really narrowed it down at all.

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 30 September 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

rock your body is his second best single.

I might vote "Lovestoned," too. But "What Goes Around...Comes Around" and "Cry Me a River" are strong contenders, too. Tomorrow this will change.

I'd probably vote for "Girlfriend" if it was the original, Nelly remix kind of ruins the perfection of the original.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

Well, not nec. the best JT song, but it sure as hell contains the best JT moment. That was the easier decision and that's what I went with.

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:15 (eighteen years ago)

Re-listening to these I'm surprised by how badly "Rock Your Body" has aged. "Like I Love You", otoh, stands up wonderfully still.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:23 (eighteen years ago)

'rock your body' or 'my love'. maybe the former.

haitch, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:35 (eighteen years ago)

"Rock Your Body" hasn't aged poorly at all. Why do you think it has?

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

yeah "Rock Your Body" still sounds awesome to me. thinking about how great the half dozen big songs Justin did with the Neptunes were is kinda depressing when I think about the more recent stuff by either of them.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 1 October 2007 05:21 (eighteen years ago)

recent JT > old JT (but both are AWESOME)

Tape Store, Monday, 1 October 2007 05:26 (eighteen years ago)

Underrated "I Wanna Love You" thing: the croak-into-falsetto on the bridge (cue Dan Perry writhing in agony). That is great. Also, the whole "DRUMS!" thing wouldn't be nearly as effective if it didn't have such a monster of a fucking beat.

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

Neptunes on Justified = Tim on FS/LS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tim on Justified (with the exception of "Cry Me a River" which is that Dhalsim.

The Reverend, Monday, 1 October 2007 05:41 (eighteen years ago)

has anyone heard that reba mcentire one? is it good?

max, Monday, 1 October 2007 05:57 (eighteen years ago)

Voted "Cry Me a River", but why is "Pop" included and not earlier N*Sync tracks such as "It's Gotta Be Me"?

Geir Hongro, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

Since he didn't write that one, Geir, we assumed you wouldn't care.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

so what, this is the rockist JT poll?

da croupier, Monday, 1 October 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I think of "Gone" and "Girlfriend" as the de facto beginning of Justin's career as an R&B singer anyway, that he wrote them too just makes their inclusion more convenient. An N Sync should be a whole seperate thread, though.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 1 October 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

Voted "Cry Me a River", but why is "Pop" included and not earlier N*Sync tracks such as "It's Gotta Be Me"?

Mr Hongro, does it ever occur to you that your ILX experience will be slightly more comprehensible if you start reading the first post in any given thread?

energy flash gordon, Monday, 1 October 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

When playing a bunch of JTim's singles back to back to back, "Rock Your Body" stands out like a sore thumb to me. Apparently I'm the only one, but the production just sounds dated.

the 50-less version of "ayo technology" is sooo awesome.

Jordan Sargent, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

I don't buy that. 50 is only a fraction of what sucks about that song.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 1 October 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

Well, starting to write his own songs was a good thing, because it always is. But musically, he was a lot better when Max Martin wrote for him. More melodic, and with less exaggerated rhythm and vocal improvisation.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 02:58 (eighteen years ago)

Oh fucking hell.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

At least a landslide win for his only good song.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:22 (eighteen years ago)

does it even need to be said at this point?

Jordan Sargent, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:23 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I now regret not voting for what goes around. It is clearly the best song by some miles.

I know, right?, Monday, 8 October 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

Lovestoned was robbed.

Christyles, Monday, 8 October 2007 09:14 (eighteen years ago)

Had no idea "Cry Me A River" was still so revered above his other singles, although I'm happy that Justified trounced FutureBroken/SpaceBar overall. I used to like "What Goes Around" OK but now I kinda hate it, probably mostly because of the video (how the fuck did that one get a VMA nomination for video of the year!?). The only thing here that really gets a rise out of me is "SexyBack" over "Senorita."

i realized that one of my main problems w/ the fs/ls singles is that they all sound better on the record cuz the transitions are so dope -- like "lovestoned" on its own is a pretty average pop song, but "lovestoned/i think that she knows (interlude)" is crazy good

NUDE. MAYNE. (s1ocki), Monday, 31 May 2010 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

J0rdan puts his finger on why the FS singles paled on the radio -- they sound better in sequence, true. But "LoveStoned" is awesome too: the key change in the chorus, the ease with which Justin switches to crooning ("I think she's goin' home with me to-N-I-I-I-G-HT/oh"). Months before it was a single, it and "I Think That She Knows" were my favorite tracks.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 31 May 2010 01:24 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, the strength of that record really comes from its expansiveness more than its individual pieces

Yep. I'm a huge fan of the transitions/interludes. I know it's been said here a bunch already, but they add so much.

And for sure, I don't think anyone would disagree with you, Rev.

rennavate, Monday, 31 May 2010 01:39 (fifteen years ago)

"Summer Love" is the only single that sounds meh on the album but explodes on the radio, as I discovered that summer (airplay won me over).

LoveStoned/I Think That She Knows ranked up fine in here... would love to see it higher but can't say I'm dissapointed in ILM.

'I think that she knows' by itself is my favorite JT moment, would've loved if they'd diminished lovestoned's length for an extended composition of that one instead.
