Old School RnB / Modern Soul / Funk / Boogie YouTube Thread ... Don't Look Any Further

Couldn’t find a prior thread for this kinda business … so here goes.

To start things off

DENNIS EDWARDS - DON'T LOOK ANY FURTHER

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3J8kjWfV9xw

This video is so simple. In fact, I think there are only 2 edits ... and yet I can't stop watching it. Great performance and bassline.

PS ... Let's keep this limited to actual videos or performance footage. I don't need to see any more heres-a-clip-of-my-record-spinning ... or worse, those fake videos where they steal footage from Xanadu or some anime movie.

And time-wise, I'm thinking mid-70s to mid-80s, but ... whatever.

Earth, Wind & Fire - Fall In Love With Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QO2tgXN2FIw

Sci-Fi and Afrocentric. Real upbeat with levitating tombs and disappering dancers.

Yes.

Ray Parker Jr. - I Don't Think That Man Should Sleep Alone

Luther VanDross - never too much

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkAY0iS4TVk

It’s kinda like the last scene in “Electric Dreams.”

And there's old school boombox porn.

Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8utL-XzOp6g

priceless. Juice's Oscar-worthy performance here makes the video something truly special, as funny and awesome as the song.

Kool and The Gang -- Steppin' Out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGj6mmQx4sc

Jumpsuits, some loose choreography and cheezy filter effects. That is all I need in a video.

Oran "Juice" Jones - The Rain

YES. I also love the answer track by Pamela called "Yes, You Saw Me (Walking In The Rain)" I wish there was a video for that. The other day, my local hip-hop radio station did an old school mix w/ the Pamela version following Oran Juice. It totally made my week.

Ashford & Simpson - Street Corner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVLNHgpOkiI

i just bought this on 12" and so after watching "Solid" i was curious - and it's just as good production-value-wise. I love how immaculately dressed they are!

The Jacksons –Can You Feel It

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaADnQzdyP8

This is one of the most absurd and over-the-top videos ever, and I love it.

If only The Jackson could magically appear as giant earth-spirits in my backyard, and sprinkle their mystical pixie dust all over me. Then, together, we could journey across that rainbow bridge to the planet of eternal love. Lead the way, Tito.

Apparently, it's one of those giga-rare 45s that French boogie hoarders pay hundreds for. Those dudes spoil all my fun, but, oh well, this video has actually made my weekend a lot less crappy. enjoy.

(And of course both groups stole from Prince. RFTW, who came along a little later, were from Flint. Dreamboy were from Oak Park and released a couple albums on Qwest. Obscure enough to not be on Discogs, but they are on a couple Smooth Grooves comps. One of the members is one of the Bass brothers (Eminem).)

actual videos and performances are way better than static shots of record covers, btw.

not to be a jerk here, but I really prefer seeing people movin and groovin (and it's even better if they are "acting"), and i get a little bummed every time I click on a link anticipating seeing an actual video only to find a still picture with music.

It definitely sucks though that there is a severe lack of videos for many classic early 80s RnB/boogie tunes. Just drives home the point that MTV was pretty damn white-washed in the pre-MJ era. 80-84 were probably the best years for these kind of jams, and it would be awesome if more of these tunes had vids. I mean, why is there no video for Jeffrey Osborne's "Plane Love"? Just one example of many, unfortunately.
