I just found it irritating that someone tried to do this and failed to make it a poll and that none of the folks who posted to that thread even considered righting what was wrong. Sheesh, is ILM just getting lazy or what?

ILX needs another thread about in rainbows like it needs another thread about aspies getting fisted by a fake girl.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 06:06 (eighteen years ago)

i support this poll though because i've really been pining the last few days for 100+ posts on whether or not "nude" is better than "reckoner" and since i can't find that anywhere this should do it.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 06:09 (eighteen years ago)

i used to listen to that live bootleg of "nude" from the ok computer tour with the big fancy ok computer style arrangement with the organ and it was one of my favorite radiohead songs

so it's kinda shocking to hear it completely reworked but the fact that it still sounds wonderful is proof it's a good song

i like "reckoner" better now though

i used to listen to that live bootleg of "nude" from the ok computer tour with the big fancy ok computer style arrangement with the organ and it was one of my favorite radiohead songs

so it's kinda shocking to hear it completely reworked but the fact that it still sounds wonderful is proof it's a good song

i like "reckoner" better now though

If I'm ever in wherever-the-hell-in-Missouri your little friend Tape Store are, I'll be sure to find myself some tasty Bootches.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

Why gay porn zing you when yo mama did all the work?

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:30 (eighteen years ago)

it isn't that good, tbh. there are cool pool tables but there are always grizzled old dudes there who yell at you if you put the chalk in the wrong place.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:31 (eighteen years ago)

i've never met tape store. i don't think he likes me all that much. i know where he works tho one day i might go in there and tell him i liked his dj mix or something.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:32 (eighteen years ago)

i'm all in favor of this thread devolving into yo mama jokes.

10. I Got Yo Mama On Videotape

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:36 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha that's a pretty fitting culmination of this thread. our complete spamming of it is now inarguably worth it.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

lolol 2. Yo Mama's Body/Snatch

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

Dumont Burger isn't nearly as cool of a name as Dick's or Booches.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

thom would not be pleased that we are talking about eating red meat in a thread dedicated to his awesome new album.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:00 (eighteen years ago)

the football stadium in seattle is awesome.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

ive been in the mariners stadium and it's A+

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, "Britshes"! Good typo!

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

seattle is pretty i got sad today when everyone was all bummed in the seattle thread.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

oh lol i didnt know it was "britishers." that phrase predates me.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

I actually haven't been to the Seahawks stadium, but Safeco Field, ftw.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:03 (eighteen years ago)

You don't see. Britshes ... BRIT-SHES

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:03 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't been to the seahawks stadium either but it always look awesome on tv and looked great from the space needle (lol tourist) too.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

Uh, the bummedness on the Seattle thread was mostly me. I had a bit of an off week, to say the least.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

When did you come to Seattle?

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

are there jobs? should i move there?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

i was there w/ my family 4 or 5 years ago. i was 15 or something. we went to canada and stuff. i actually saw a friend from home @ the mariners game i went to. i had no idea he was in seattle. one of those funny vacation moments.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

We changed that. The thread is now "Seattle! How is it now? Are there parties? Should I FAP there?", it just doesn't say that at the top.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

Small world, etc.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

oy vey fap. are there parties tho?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:08 (eighteen years ago)

Croquet FAPs and listening parties are not to be missed, especially if Jaq's cooking.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

There are also parties that don't really have anything to do with ILX, but become tainted by my presence.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:10 (eighteen years ago)

both sound fantastic. i would like for someone to cook me food.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, it's a good town to party in, if you can find something/someone to do after the clubs shut down. (Which is the part I haven't mastered.)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

ah we've been knocked off the top of new answers.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but it's a better thread than this, even if it kinda suck in its own right.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not particularly interested in the plight of vinyl tbh.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

Me either, but still a better thread than this one.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

Or, at least, more excusable.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

i used to listen to that live bootleg of "nude" from the ok computer tour with the big fancy ok computer style arrangement with the organ and it was one of my favorite radiohead songs

so it's kinda shocking to hear it completely reworked but the fact that it still sounds wonderful is proof it's a good song

i like "reckoner" better now though

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

You know, getting a bit off-topic here, please forgive me, it occurs to me that people who use killfile are probably missing, like, 80% of ILX lulz.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, I once used another ILXor's computer, and she had Louis Jagger killfiled. It's like, why would I want to do that?

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

killfiling jagger would make ilx way too confusing.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

Exactly.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

the thread where he bitches about soccer only to be dogpiled by a bunch of people with like dead relatives and no jobs is really underrated in the canon of jagger lulz.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Wait a minute, it took this long for this to register, but you got banned from Noize, at least in part, because fucking Ethan Padgett was offended by something you said that was insensitive to a homosexual? How fucking disingenuous can you get?

xp: I seem to have missed that one.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

no no no other people were offended and like two threads were being taken up by me having to defend this beth ditto thing and it gave jon reason enough to ban me, which ethan had been campaigning for ever since i started posting on noize. i doubt ethan even knows who beth ditto is.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Leave it to ILM to turn a Radiohead poll into an all out "let's bash Bimble" thread. *rolls eyes* My guess is some people are sore that they couldn't figure out how to start a poll. Whatever, my work is done here. Let's remember someone else wanted to do this poll originally, not me. And what a poor excuse for a "music" board this place is at times.

Yes, I changed my mind about this album. If folks are too narrow minded to conceive of changing one's mind about something, then they're not very bright to begin with as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Seattle FAP - the story went like this (and this was three years ago) I attended a gathering of ILMers at a certain person's house. People were having beers. There had been no mention in the run up to this gathering that it was a BYOB affair. I waited for a few hours and no one, not even the host offered me a drink the entire time. Not even water. Immediately upon arriving, I was told sorry that all the pizza was gone. To have a person over to your house while people are having beers and not to offer them a drink is just plain rude. I didn't mind talking to the people there but overall they came off as cliqueish and snobby, like I was the outsider in the room that wasn't supposed to be there. Eventually I left, not a little offended. I attempted to attend another FAP maybe a year ago by posting on ILE and got ignored when I asked for clarification as to where the place of meeting was. I figured it was just as well because I don't think I share much of the same musical tastes as these Seattle ILMers do anyway.

Furthermore Reverend, I don't go around telling people they should listen to less of whatever artist they're listening to. That you would - and did - strikes me as ridiculous.

Regardless, I don't have a particular problem with you personally, even if you called me an idiot on this thread. I just think we're very different kinds of people and for whatever reason, the Seattle contingent of ILM is just not something I'm likely to hook up with or get along with. It's sad that that's the case, but I'm not bothered by it. Live and let live.

Dude if you're invited to a party at someone's house it is *polite* to bring booze. It's kind of assumed that you'll do so and contribute towards the party.

If I threw a party and someone turned up empty handed, expected to be given beer and shouted at everyone when they weren't, I'd say the problem was with them, not me.

Matt DC, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

Was it really necessary to break this thread? If you don't want to listen to more In Rainbows chatter, don't read those threads, but please let those of us who are interested in these threads continue to enjoy them.

three handclaps, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

This thread may be of use to you. Radiohead - In Rainbows

The Reverend, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)

Indeed, I know of that thread and posted on it yesterday, but this thread was supposed to be a poll for people to vote for their favorite track on the album, and the other thread is not a poll.

three handclaps, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

i wonder if i'll ever like radiohead

Surmounter, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

Monsieur three handclaps, I have not prevented anyone from voting in this poll. In fact, I have voted in it, myself.

The Reverend, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think so. they actually make me angry.

Surmounter, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sorry, i know this is a radiohead thread and if i don't like them i should go somewhere else bla bla bla, and i will.

just had to get it out.

Surmounter, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

Venting your dislike of Radiohead on a Radiohead thread is a perfectly acceptable thing to do. Probably far more acceptable than any action I've taken here.

The Reverend, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

i personally am making no apologies for throwing this poll of a cliff.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 10 November 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

"Nude" all the way.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 12 November 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

Better than "Reckoner"?

The Reverend, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

I still think Keith Harris looks like ILXor Jesse in that photo.

Also, I think my favorite song is no longer "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" but now either "All I Need" or "Reckoner."

jaymc, Monday, 12 November 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I have to confess I don't really get the love for "Nude." Maybe my least favorite, actually.

posting funny bullshit on a poll thread does absolutely nothing to damage the thread's poll function (unless say there's some overt "vote for the worst" sabotage, which isn't happening here). and if there's already a thread full of discussion on the same topic, then noone really has any reason to take offense at the thread derailing. just ignore the thread until the results pop up if that's all you care about.

that makes no sense. the derails kept it at the top of new answers and people clicking on it, and didn't inhibit anyone's ability to vote in the poll. plus there isn't any comedy Jet/Darkness option people could use to sabotage the results (not that there aren't lousy songs on the album but there are several that are equally lousy).

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:38 (eighteen years ago)

Jet should release a track-for-track cover of this album

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:42 (eighteen years ago)

ummm the fact that basically no one bothered to try to bring discussion back to the songs might indicate that no one really gave a shit about the poll once the thread was derailed. i think that makes some sense. two people (the derailers) were responsible for most of the posts on here -- maybe this indicated that no one cared? plus the fact that this is what, the 4th in rainbows-related thread? maybe there was no need to discuss it, obviously with the 1000 posts on the original album thead, i don't know, but it kind of seemed that people didn't give a shit about the poll. usually no interested posts indicates not much interest in the thread.

Mark Clemente, Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

Mark Clemente, Saturday, 17 November 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

not if the desire for discussion of the topic was completely satisfied/exhausted by multiple other recent threads.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 17 November 2007 01:18 (eighteen years ago)

look mine and rev's "discussion" took place between 2 and 5 AM (central) or something like that. if you look at the post where i say "i'm going to bed" and the next post of some dude saying "wah ilm doesn't really love music", you'll notice there is likea 4 hour time-gap. this could have been brought back to radiohead in the morning, well after the "derailing" was done.

i'd say everyone on this board except for like 5 people are sick of talking about this album.

J0rdan S., Saturday, 17 November 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

And it's...Reckoner by a landslide!!! Hell, I'm surprised but satisfied.

If I threw a party and someone turned up empty handed, expected to be given beer and shouted at everyone when they weren't, I'd say the problem was with them, not me.

-- Matt DC, Saturday, 10 November 2007 19:08 (1 week ago) Link

I did not "shout at everyone". I left the Seattle gathering in an entirely polite manner, even saying goodbye to those who were there. Nothing in my post would have led anyone to believe I shouted at people and I don't believe anyone on this thread or board has ever accused me of shouting at people at this gathering. Nice try, though.

I don't believe the lack of posts indicated no interest, for look at how many people voted in the poll! I believe people may have felt reluctant to post, however, because they saw posts like these:

Sooner or later someone who wants to take this seriously will wake up and try to steer this back on course but fuck that dude.

-- The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 07:58 (1 week ago) Link

anyway the britishes should be getting here fairly soon.

-- J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:01 (1 week ago) Link

Oh. Well in that case, fuck them before they even get here. Except for Dom, I'm sure he's down with the cause.

-- The Reverend, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 08:02 (1 week ago) Link

Kinda like bullies on the 6th grade playground isn't it? But never mind, Reverend, I accept your apology.

It's true there are a number of other threads dedicated to discussing this album and it's possible that those served that purpose for folks and this one wasn't needed so much for discussion. But I (and gman at least) felt this album should have a proper poll and that was the ultimate purpose of the thread, or at least it should have been.

Bimble, Saturday, 17 November 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

then it did serve its "ultimate purpose," unless you consider it getting half as many votes as the "how much did you pay for In Rainbows" poll as a failure. i bet most of the RH fanboys who clicked on the thread once and were scared away by the derail still voted.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 17 November 2007 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

right, I really In Rainbows overall, BUT can someone shed light on what exactly is so good about "Reckoner"?

it's like the ONE song on the album (ok maybe one or two more I could skip if I was impatient but still enjoy for other reasons i.e. Bodysnatchers, at least it rocks out etc) I just can't get to hang around in my memory once it's over, even whilst it's playing, sometimes... the lyrics elude me with a vagueness I can't really penetrate, there doesn't seem to be much of a tune AT ALL, nothing is ear-grabbing sonically much, there may or may not be a chorus... it just seems to start, then end a few minutes later without me anything noteworthy happening...

fandango, Saturday, 22 December 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

Things I love about Reckoner:

1. The way it's arranged & constructed. The percussion, harmonies, and main guitar motif have this vaguely Americana feel to them, while maintaining a distinctly English flavor.

2. There's a sustained sense of tension throughout the whole song. It builds gradually, until everything seems to fall apart right before the Beatles-y melody comes in ("because we separate...") during the bridge.

3. The vocal harmonies and strings are just so rich.

4. The glissando vocals toward the end are great. It's a dizzy, cavernous sound.

5. It's in E minor. :-9

*humbled*

The Reverend, Saturday, 22 December 2007 21:55 (eighteen years ago)

For me, the thing about Reckoner is when the falsetto just goes all over-the-top holy towards the end. It's bloody hypnotic, it is. And percussion cannot be beat.

Also I love ILM for making me listen to this album again, for I've avoided it for awhile now for the sheer fact that I overplayed it and I was sick of all the emotional turmoil in my personal life that it reminded me of. But I'm over that shit now, so there's no harm anymore.

Thanks!

I was disappointed with "In Rainbows" when it came out, but I fell in love with "Go Slowly" about a month ago and I'm now coming around on the whole album. Except "Bodysnatchers," which I still find dull.

If I had to pick the best track from the first/main disc, it'd be "Reckoner." I still think the album versions of "Nude" and "Arpeggi" aren't nearly as good as the live versions.
