I haven't actually gotten around to his latest stuff, I thought I&S was pretty disappointing when it came out honestly, more to the point, ILM needs a thread on this guy

ATR actually kind of made me think he probably sucked until GEIST 001 came out, his 3-disc greatest hits announcement of "fuck you force inc I quit"

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

also one of the most consistently worthwhile contributors to the electric ladyland series, by kind of a long shot actually

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

whats the one with all the raekwon samples

and what, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

I only really know The Destroyer, mostly because I'm lazy.

HI DERE, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

ethan I have no idea tbh

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

a whole album or are you talking about a single?

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

whole album i thought... i think it sampled rza going BANG YOUR HEAD!!!! from gravediggaz too

and what, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

That's The Destroyer. That's probably my favorite of his stuff although there are some good 12"s on Force Inc which I guess are collected on Limited Edition although I don't have that.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

limited edition and generation star wars are both worth picking up just for about two or three astounding tracks on each

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

On a DHR tip what ever happened to Christoph De Babalon? If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It was always my fave thing on the label.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah that shit was like a revelation

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

Why is it that whenever I think of DHR, the first band that leaps to mind is fucking EC8OR?

HI DERE, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

Haha no idea unless it's because Patric Catani is soooo sexy.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

The Destroyer, totally.

"Hard Like It's A Pose" is so badass.

latebloomer, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

On a DHR tip what ever happened to Christoph De Babalon? If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It was always my fave thing on the label.

Seconded. Is my copy still around, I wonder...

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

Actually the entire original roster of DHR just kind of disappeared, didn't it? Shizuo, Nic Endo, Catani, De Babalon, none of them (all of whom had some great stuff out here and there) did much of anything after 2000 or so. I wonder if they all have kids and work for Volkswagon now or something.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

Nic Endo tours/records with Alec Empire, but the rest...who knows?

latebloomer, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:19 (eighteen years ago)

cdb is way more interesting than herr empire, where's his thread?

he has a number of releases besides "if you're into it I'm out of it", all great stuff. some of the better ones are "destroy berlin!", "seven up" and the fantastically titled "rise above this"

in the wtf category, I once saw a US anti-smoking tv ad that used "dead too".

Edward III, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

Haha he released a record on floppy disc!

http://www.discogs.com/release/610995

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

I have the cd single of "Seven Up", I think, and it is good. Apparently De Babalon is now in Übergang which seems sort of appropriate somehow.

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

I am loving this thread already, I think the time is ripe for a DHR revival. Also, the Hanin Elias EP is quite fine, there is one track that reminds me of Muslimgauze.

Les Étoiles des Filles Mortes

This is one of the weirdest, most baffling records I own, like some bastard offspring of In The Nursery.

5 xposts damn this thread is hoppin'

^^ all 5 are totally classic, right?

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

it's funny, i'd heard a lot of empires stuff on various mille plateux comps and things, but i'd been buying those more to get my hands on more zulutronic / kerosene / biochip c / 4e tracks

it was listening to this comp that really turned me on to alec empire.

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Oh good that Nicolette DJ Kicks (non)mix. Haha I remember that made people really mad when it came out.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

I forgot how utterly awesome that tracklist was until just now.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

god I am going to be so pissed if I can't find my CDB when I get home
I would totally buy a DHR/Geist boxset

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

As much junk is in there, I would still probably be down
BOMB 20's "Field Manual" was a huge disappointment but he had a lot of great stuff on comps as I recall, plus when I saw him live he kicked fucking ass

El Tomboto, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

Haha yeah most of the other stuff is not as good. Fever, ick. Although DJ Maxxximus has some good stuff where he isn't trying to rap.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

oh man I actually picked up nintendo teenage robots. that was even worse than those archittetura records on caipirinha for low-concept awfulness. wtf alec

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

the stars

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:11 (eighteen years ago)

Once the stellar core is sufficiently dense, some of the hydrogen is steadily converted into helium through the process of nuclear fusion. The remainder of the star's interior carries energy away from the core through a combination of radiative and convective processes. These processes keep the star from collapsing in on itself, and the energy generates a stellar wind at the surface and propels radiation into outer space.

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:12 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:16 (eighteen years ago)

A star with a core mass too great to form a white dwarf but insufficient to achieve sustained conversion of neon to oxygen and magnesium will undergo core collapse (due to electron capture, as described above) before achieving fusion of the heavier elements.

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:17 (eighteen years ago)

If the mass of the stellar remnant is high enough, the neutron degeneracy pressure will be insufficient to prevent collapse below the Schwarzschild radius. The stellar remnant thus becomes a black hole. The mass at which this occurs is not known with certainty, but is currently estimated at between 2 and 3 solar masses.

opium 2:20

El Tomboto, Friday, 30 November 2007 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

Black holes are predicted by the theory of general relativity. According to classical general relativity, no matter or information can flow from the interior of a black hole to an outside observer, although quantum effects may allow deviations from this strict rule. The existence of black holes in the universe is well supported, both theoretically and by astronomical observation.

that cover reminds me of this one amazingly hideous album i owned ... it was some old drum and bass comp i had. the cover is a woman made of silver metal w/ huge bass speaker cones for boobs. and she's holding them. i thought it was the back cover to the "techsteppin" comp, maybe? please find and post.
