Disagree there were albums that were begging to be included last year, and i made the case for a wild card sweep-up at the end. Which sadly wasn't implemented, some late stragglers said they would have voted for those albums.

Now until 2008: nominations. Every album and track that receives a single nomination is put on a list, and when voting time comes around, only items on the list are eligible to be voted for. This isn't the actual voting, but just a way of creating a common pool of candidates for the sake of having a decent poll that, like I was saying above, isn't spread too thin.

An album or song only needs one nomination to be placed on the ballot. Obviously, if something has been nominated already there's no point in nominating it again.

First couple weeks of Jan: voting. I'll compile a list of all eligible nominees, post it in the voting thread, and then have everyone email me directly with their votes. I'll post detailed info about the voting process when the time comes.

Thanks for doing this, seems like a lot of work to collect nominees and votes.

There are always going to be albums and tracks that miss getting a nomination, and people who pop up in the end who manage to miss the thread (even though it was bumped consistently for two weeks)...but based on the work I did adding up all the votes, I thought scaling things down a bit would make the poll more effective overall. Perhaps since this poll is a bit more timely than the last, there will be more nominees and voters, and the issue of having obvious candidates not included will be lessened this time around.

Important note: for those of you who nominated more than 15 items total, make sure to specify what your final cut is ASAP so that the albums and tracks you dropped are freed up to be nominated by others. You may be doing a disservice to some of the rejected items on your initial list if someone who would have nominated them skipped over them because they were on your list.

Another way to interpret "forcing more consensus" is "avoiding unintentional vote-splitting." The nom process doesn't really get around that completely but I imagine it does reduce the "we all voted for a DIFFERENT song on the same album and therefore it doesn't appear in the top twenty even though it was unanimously loved" or whatever.

makes sense for the tracks poll, I guess, but not so much the albums, since not too many artists have multiple albums out in a single year to allow vote-splitting. this is also one of the reasons why I've always preferred singles lists/polls to "tracks" lists/polls.

Usually I find if there's only one or two songs on an album that are really great, they're singles, either already or eventually, and if there are several tracks on an album that I find really impressive, I'll probably just vote for it as an album.

Tuomas, what's the Pole album like?

It's very good, I think. Much better than the previous one with rapping. It's sort of a return to form, but it also expands on the trademark Pole sound. The sound is less minimal than on those initial Pole albums, there's proper beats and everything (though unlike the Allmusic review claims, it's not at all dancey), but it's also more cold and detached than earlier stuff - in a good way. Okay, I think I omitted a ton of stuff. I'll post an updated, hopefully complete draft in an hour or so. Meanwhile, you all can still point out any misspellings or non-2007 tracks if you see any.

Musically, the list should have the regular version of Feist "1,2,3,4" too.

Actually, I was right to not include it on the short list but wrong when I didn't post it earlier on Mordechai's list of tracks that didn't make the cut. I will add it to the final list though since it was my mistake.

I'm not sure how Amy Winehouse's Back To Black and Lily Allen's Alright Still count as 2007 albums. I would vote for them if this was a 2006 poll.

Jarvis, Lily and Amy are all 2006 releases in my mind but all had 2007 US releases - so let the Americans vote for them. Robyn's album was released way back in 2005 and it still counts.

surely there are going to be so many nominations in this forthcoming poll that the results are going to be fairly meaningless. there will be a smattering of votes for the usual suspects (in rainbows, kala, sound of silver etc...) and a load of individual votes for the likes of alasdair roberts (from me!).
