Mika is NOT British !

djmartian, Monday, 14 January 2008 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

lol indeed.

shanissey, Monday, 14 January 2008 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

Me Picks: (who I think will win)

British male solo artist
Mark Ronson - although 'solo' is somewhat pushing it!

British female solo artist
Kate Nash - Pumpkin soup seems to be the 'bubbling under' hit for ages

British group
Editors - Don't ask me why cause I don't know

Mastercard British album
Mark Ronson - Version

British breakthrough act
Top five selected by the Academy. Winner to be chosen by Radio 1 listeners.
Klaxons

British live act
Nominees chosen by a panel of experts in association with the Live Music Forum. Winner to be chosen by Radio 2 listeners.
Muse - again

Mark G, Monday, 14 January 2008 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

Mastercard British album

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Leona Lewis - Spirit
Mark Ronson - Version
Mika - Life in Cartoon Motion
Take That - Beautiful World

Remember music? It used to be quite popular a few years ago.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 14 January 2008 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

To paraphrase Des O'Connor, remember Modern Romance?

Mika carries a British passport thus is eligible.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm... Mark Ronson has lived in NYC since the age of eight, so I guess we have another Antony Hegarty/Mercury Music Prize situation.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 10:25 (eighteen years ago)

No Dizzee then.

The Brits - any colour nominee you like, as long as they're white (plus token half-caste).

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 10:28 (eighteen years ago)

That shortlist in full, including Best Single, International categories etc.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

Critics' Choice: Adele

I wasn't asked and therefore declare this particular ballot.

The Eagles to win Best International Act just as they would have done back in 1978 when DLT and Anne Diamond were presenting.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:14 (eighteen years ago)

...therefore declare this particular ballot INVALID, that should have been.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

How splendid that a graduate of the BRITS SCHOOL should win the Critics' Choice award at the BRITS!

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

Critics' Choice Award: Adele.

...who has released one non-charting single to date.

Also, where is Amy Winehouse in all of this? One Best Single nomination for Mark Ronson's "Valerie", and that's your lot. OK, so the album was shortlisted last year, but even so...

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

How splendid that a graduate of the BRITS SCHOOL should win the Critics' Choice award at the BRITS!

smells dont it. especially as she hasn't even released a record yet.

xpost dangit

mark e, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

ar, but she's won PRIZES!!!

Mark G, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

She has, though: "Hometown Glory", 22 October 2007.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

oh my god it's a music biz stitch-up!!! who would have thought it?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

This will certainly dent the credibility of the BRITS.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

Have the BRITS really only just got around to giving SIR PAUL MACCARTHNY a LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD?

What did Fred Wedlock have that Macca didn't?

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

She has, though: "Hometown Glory", 22 October 2007.

fair diddums - checked myspace and XL and saw no mention of this.
guess it was one of those teaser limited 7" then ?

mark e, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, that's exactly what it was. Arses have been duly covered, then.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

predictions:

male - Mika
female - Leona
group - Arctic Monkeys
album - Mika
breakthrough - Kate Nash
live - Kaiser Chiefs
single - Ronsonhouse
furran male - Kanye
furran female - Kylie
furran group - Kings Of Leon
furran album - Kylie (because POP IS BACK)

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:46 (eighteen years ago)

kings of leon. seriously?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

is the most difficult category so most potential for SHOCK - Arcade Fire still too edgy/just happy to be nominated Maniche, Foo Fighters are even older than The Eagles, White Stripes could just as easily win but even i am bored of them now.

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

i reckon arcade fire could do it.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

Arcade Fire or Foo Fighters, fo' sho'.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

'Neon Bible' is the only one that didn't top the album chart but don't suppose that will be a huge factor altho i imagine it sold the least out of the five noms

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:55 (eighteen years ago)

Since the Brit Awards are essentially based on record sales the Eagles, with their Britney-beating number one album, will triumph.

It would be nice to see both Arcade Fire and Feist picking up awards but doubtless So Brave Kylie has the International Female prize sewn up.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

record sales and international audiences, that is.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

Hold up, where's Lily Allen in all of this? Not one single nomination? Blimey.

OK, so here are my predictions. I got 8 out of 12 right last year, so I'm feeling dangerously cocky.

UK male - Mika
UK female - Leona Lewis
UK group - Kaiser Chiefs
UK album - Leona Lewis - Spirit
UK breakthrough - Klaxons
UK live act - Kaiser Chiefs
UK single - Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love
Int male - Kanye West
Int female - Kylie Minogue
Int group - Foo Fighters
Int album - Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:06 (eighteen years ago)

you have to have released an album since the last Brit awards to be nominated (unless you are Bobilliams) - so no Allen.

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:08 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sure dido broke that rule too, but yeah.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:09 (eighteen years ago)

i can't remember what they replaced dance with but they seem to have dropped it too.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:10 (eighteen years ago)

Aha, now I get it.

The categories are the same as last year, except they've ditched International Breakthrough in favour of the pre-determined Critics' Choice.

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

Arctic Monkeys spoiled it for Kaisers by releasing a second album a year later. BRITS like to have two bands they can alternate between for a bit.

So many 'indie' bands now that Bloc Party, The Enemy and SCOUTING FOR GIRLS can't even get a look in. Ditto solo females, alas poor Roisin and SEB.

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

Louis Jagger thinks this year's Brit Awards line-up is arguably better than Woodstock and Glasto '97 combined. 8m ago

with us in spirit

xpost bloc party excluded on 'being shit' grounds. roisin and seb on grounds they can't close.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

bloc party excluded on 'being shit' grounds

yeah that doesn't really work

people you are most surprised to see won a Brit looking at wikipedia list of previous awards #1: Robert Miles

blueski, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

Once again I must point out that the winner of the Best International Newcomer BRIT Award in 1992 was the woman Tom Jones called "Lisa Lobby."

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

Glasto '97

Well that's the last of the sacred cows, what do we do now?

DJ Mencap, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

i was there. i didn't see radiohead though, though i hear they were passable.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 12:58 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

Oh, it's tonight isn't it?

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:18 (seventeen years ago)

Yep, it's rubbernecking time again. I'm already rubb(erneck)ing my hands in anticipation of Sir Paul "Fab Gear Grotty" McCartney bringing the house down at the end with his rousing new single!

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:21 (seventeen years ago)

I... really don't care.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:24 (seventeen years ago)

OK, cheers for popping in, later.

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:25 (seventeen years ago)

Those TV trailers NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST IN ONE SECOND

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:28 (seventeen years ago)

Better than Lily Allen saying "innovative"?

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

That was TWO SECONDS due to the fact Lily Allen/"innovative" doesn't get broadcast every three seconds.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

Congratulations to much-loved Brits veteran Annie Lennox for winning the award of Best Female Vocalist for the 57th consecutive year!

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 14:57 (seventeen years ago)

"I'd like to thank Sony for dropping Annie Lennox"...

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 15:02 (seventeen years ago)

...from the top of the NatWest Tower.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

anne diamond??! in 1979? nah, it would have been isla st clair say i.
or mags philbs.

pisces, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 15:32 (seventeen years ago)

Just looked:

The first Brit awards was in 1977, and the next one was in 1982.

So, what was that one where I an Dury got an award from Sue Lawley (?), and yelled out "OY BASHER!" to the puzzlement of most watching?

(Basher being Nick Lowe)

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

Shit Awards morelike

BOOM! Pick the bones outta that one.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

5 mins in and I already want to stab myself in the eyes.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

And the ears after Klaxons/Rihanna.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:17 (seventeen years ago)

I swear there was once a time when I thought Fearne Cotton was good. Strange times.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:21 (seventeen years ago)

Jack Osbourne hates himself and wants to die.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:24 (seventeen years ago)

Is Dom here? We need some comparable Wrestlecrap shit for this segment.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

I do hope the next segment involves Sharon Osbourne asking Alan Shearer if he's interested in the Newcastle job.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

He had a far away look in his eyes, like he was gonna snap. (xxp)

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

I thought Sharon wz gonna say Jonathan King, not Rhys-Meyers.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

oh for fucks sake x 1000 so far

or something, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:28 (seventeen years ago)

Why was Rhys-Meyers putting on an Irish accent?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

Mika--so desperate to be loved but so desperately unloveable.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:29 (seventeen years ago)

POP IS BACK!

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:30 (seventeen years ago)

With her number 18 smash hit Wow, it's Kylie! It'll probably climb to at least number 12 now, though.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:31 (seventeen years ago)

To be fair, this is the best bit so far.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:32 (seventeen years ago)

kylie's taken over the Lennox position--the Brits'll get her to something every year now whether she's popular or not.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

Will, izzit true you were one of the critics that voted for Adele?

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

I was pulling for Duffy, obvs. Politics, man.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

Who has won The John Peel Life Time Achievement Award for Moaning about the Mainstream British Music Industry?

djmartian, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

Scouting for Girls. They're changing EVERYTHING, Martian. You best watch out.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

xpost

Your time will come, dude.

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

"Biggest selling female group of all time" - do TLC not count because one of them's dead?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

New highlight of the programme is that bit of 'Work' they just played for 10 seconds at half-volume.

Best Int. Male - Go Rufus!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

WBS, I am supporting The Saints campaign for league 1 football 2008-2009

djmartian, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:41 (seventeen years ago)

"Hi, I'm Kanye West. Thanks for the award, Britland - wherever that is. Also, Barack Obama hates black people."

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

No, it's Kanye. He thanks DJ Semtek.

Martian, there were 11 lads on the pitch on Saturday who are with you all the way on that...

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

"Please welcome Beth Ditto to the stage as she makes me look skinny."

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

British Male - Go Hawley!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:43 (seventeen years ago)

Soz Beth, Adele's the new fatty in town. (xp)

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:43 (seventeen years ago)

Mark Ronson instead. Some girls squeal like, er, girls.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

Is he even British?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

The Dap Kings shout out is nice at least.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:45 (seventeen years ago)

Oh aye. Spent much of his life in Noo Yorick. This is where he learnt about going on for bloody ages.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

"My dad was the one who wasn't David Bowie or the brickie in David Bowie's old band!"

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

New highlight of the programme is that bit of 'Work' they just played for 10 seconds at half-volume.

^otm. i expect it to remain the highpoint too.

or something, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

CRAZY SET!

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

The Kaisers now. Someone hasn't turned R. Wilson's mic on. Or he's singing like Orville for some reason.

They're recreating the video for Ruby! Thus far, it's even less impressive in the flesh.

N. Hodgson's haircut is making me pine for the Inspiral Carpets.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

Kaisers not making a good case for RUBY RUBY RUBY RUBY being the greatest single EVER or whatever they claimed.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

Does one of them fight a guy in a Godzilla suit at the end?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

Next up, Bloc Party recreate the video for 'I Still Remember' live via satellite from just outside Peckham Rye.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

CRAZIEST SET EVER!

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

Still, the song off MacBook Air ad is making a reasonable case that things could be a lot worse.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

Kelly points out Sharon's new dress. Why did she do that?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:56 (seventeen years ago)

Rihanna - because she turned up.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Och, lovely David Tennant and his lovely Scottish accent. No, not the nominations, just let him keep talking.

Oh well, never mind.

Kylie pips Rihanna. Hmm.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry - Kylie, because she turned up.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Kaiser's wobbly cardboard buildings set, funny funny funny

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

Rihanna absolutely thrilled to bits there.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

Waht trouble?

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

Leona now. Lights turned off in auditorium to give appearance of LAKE OF FIRE. Does not entirely work.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/1286/takecraphk2.jpg

Ken doll now with poseable hands and realistic microphone accessory.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

I feel like I'm in a lake of fire ie HELL.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

I thought it was supposed to be like the inside of a heart... Anyway, Leona's dancers having a bit of a laugh and a joke behind her back.

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

Not watching this.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

Is it wrong of me to not really get the fuss about 'Bleeding Love'? And what the hell is with all this confetti they keep dropping from the ceiling?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

Have they sedated Jack?

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

(xpost) It's Ozzy's dandruff. Well he's got sod all else to do this evening.

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

These two should have hosted the whole thing, the hilarity.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

Best Int Group noms heralded by Reverend & The Makers. Andrew Lloyd-Webber tries for the funny. Doesn't really work.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

Why is he intent on being everywhere at the minute?

I thought his Hollyoaks appearance was bad but...

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

Grohl phones it in...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

The sound made at the mention of The Eagles is the very definition of scattered cheers.

The Foo Fighters win. Erm...

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

Foo Fighters are now the International Lennox.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

C'mon Lyon!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:08 (seventeen years ago)

James Nesbit is presenting Best British Lady. 'tastic. To be fair, the timekeeping this evening has been immaculate. Go Peej!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:08 (seventeen years ago)

Knasher takes it. "They're doing something right in Croydon!" There's a sentence you don't hear often.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

Has Kate Nash got a hunchback or is it shoulder pads?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:11 (seventeen years ago)

"Now starring in the recently-cancelled Bionic Woman"

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:12 (seventeen years ago)

Oh stop taking the piss Dave...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

Blankety Blank presented by Jimmy Page

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:14 (seventeen years ago)

Paddy Power's odds on Amy Winehouse cracking her head open live on stage just shortened to 11-4 on.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:15 (seventeen years ago)

RONSON MEDLEY!

Adele attacking 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' with all the enthusiasm it deserves. Dan Merriwether turns up to do his version of 'Stop Me' and the hall goes SILENT.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

Tonight, Amy Winehouse was not born to dance.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

Winehouse doing her best Scatman John impression.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

RIP BIG FELLA

Noodle Vague, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

Still, apart from the dancing she seemed pretty together, which is nice to see.

Orson winning Best Int. Group was this time last year. Seems like a lifetime, eh?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

Fuck me, baked beans in a plastic pot.

It's just like living in the future.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

AARRRRGH! TIMEWARP!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

BIONIC WOMAN - COMING SOON TO ITV 2 - BUT FIRST... someone's put the warps on Sharon Osbourne's vocals. EH?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

First use of that 30 second broadcast delay this evening...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

QTF HAPPENED THERE? EVERYTHING SLOWED DOWN FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

IT WAS LIKE BEING ON THAT MADE UP DRUG CAKE!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Sir Ian McKellen takes the stage to 'Torn On The Platform'. Apparently he came to meet Mika.

Best Brit. Group. Go Th'Alaaahd!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

What is the floating anarchy symbols on the noms vid about?

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

It's a processing overload in the Matrix innit...
mcKellen is like your Dad trying to be cool "I came to meet Mika"

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

Nope, Th'Arctics. They are wearing hats and look pissed. This might be alright.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

lol at Jason Orange going ;_;

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

This speech will only be good if they actually shoot a fox.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

McKellen such a man of the theatre that he SHOUTS like he has no mic.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry son, but you are not Mark E Smith

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

"Bugger off" says Kelly. Hmm.

Encore de Winehouse. You'd almost think she was eligible for this year's awards.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

That whole 'apart from that, she seems alright' thing - I may have been wrong.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Winehouse performing in the style of a kidnapped Eastern European sex slave forced to do a sexy dance at gunpoint.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

Winehouse looks better than she has recently, but it's painful to watch - she seems like she's either going to fall over or forget the words.

In a near death experience, most people report that they are outside of their physical bodies, traveling toward a source of bright white light.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

Rapturous applause for not dying. Well, not literally.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:30 (seventeen years ago)

Amy very nearly walking off the stage from the front. Oh dear. Alan Carr. Oh dear.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)

Plug for Carr's excerable "game" show. He really needs to fuck off and stop thinking he's so funny.

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

Hit40UK is still going? Eh? Best Brit. Single. Here's to The Hoosiers getting it and sulking at having no other nominations.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

What time does this finish? Soon I hope.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

Nah, 'Shine'. Which I do rather like, so fair enough. Leona wins nothing unless she gets album, if I'm not mistaken.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

What a coincidence! This was my favourite song of the past year, too!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's meant to be at about ten, which means they may actually be running short.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

Running short of ideas, aye.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

Where the hell have they hidden Ozzy?

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Sharon is now at the Shouting At Passing Cars phase of the evening. Here's Best Brit Album, and someone's invited Vic Reeves.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Vic Reeves channelling Peter Kay here, oh they've cut him off for the VT

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

Ozzy's being kept gagged in a sound-proof room lest they have to use that WEIRD TIMEWARP again.

It's not running short, surely McCartney will get a 20 minute advert for his new album?

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

The Arctics are now at a state where they quite possibly can't stand. Someone is gonna punch someone in a minute.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)

(xpost) strategy didn't work as Sharon is swearing like a sailor to compensate

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

Booze is the new coke...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

Lol, the one funny line of the night courtesy of the Arctic Monkeys.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

hadn't they already trailed the fact that ozzy was banned (something about nudity)? sure i heard it this afternoon.

xxp

whatever, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

They couldn't really cut to Fearne fast enough. WOW, but Take That look fucked off.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:39 (seventeen years ago)

is macca on yet? divorced?

whatever, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, Jason Orange has a face like murder. Mark Owen appeared to just be holding Alan Carr upright.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)

wish i had a tv with me

whatever, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

He's performing w/Extreme Noise Terror and burning his money thruout the set, KLF style. (xxp)

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

ITV1 actually stooping to accepting advertising for shows on other TV channels there.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

That Euphoric Dance Breakdown ad was so much better than the entire ceremony. T2!

And now, some more shouting. From autocue!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

He'd better do the fucking Frog Song.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

maybe i'll get off my arse and go and watch his skin drip off to multo multo drippage of applause. shame i can't take the puter with me.

"MR SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY!"
"NOT YET! NOT YET!"

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

Heather Mills!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, Kylie.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

Macca VT heavy on the Linda...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

"SHE'S A SURVIVOR, LIKE ME!"

"hello osbournes..."

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

I thought that was an intro for H Mills not Kylie. (xxp)

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

Kylie just bigged up the Beatles for writing their own songs. Eh?

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

some dumb macca comment on radio this pm about not wanting a lifetime award cos it sounds like he's finishing soon. wants a middle aged one. what a lifeless cod-rebel knob.

let's hope he does revolution no.9, with amy winehouse saying 'we become....naked', and mark ronson blurbing 'number nine'. arctic monkeys can do the 'eldorado' bit.

whatever, shut up and go downstairs...

megaa xxxxxxp

whatever, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:46 (seventeen years ago)

No-one wrote their own songs before the Beatles. All those artists the Beatles covered early on didn't, I'm sure. (xp)

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

Nah, 'Live And Let Die', with Amy Winehouse... priceless. In asociation with Visa.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

"Briddish music is THE BEST!"

Damn skippy. The Brits School are thanked for being the only people who wanted to be here.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

Paulie and Fearne must be the only two sober people in the building

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

The Beatles made the Brits possible then. Thanks Beatles.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

IT IS THE SONG FROM THE IPOD AD which probably means Yael Naim's turning up in a minute aw hell no.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:48 (seventeen years ago)

They had to fill for the last 13 minutes because McCartney's only got about three songs.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:49 (seventeen years ago)

Mick Ronson plays bass in McCartney's band, it's a fix I tell thee.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

Go on Paul, do 'Losing My Religion'. You've brought your mandolin, you may as well.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

He should go for the youth vote and do Temporary Secretary with the Klaxons.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

Go on, play 'Imagine'...

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:51 (seventeen years ago)

JAMES MITCHELL TAKES THE SWEEPSTAKE

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:52 (seventeen years ago)

It doesn't count if Amy Winehouse doesn't crack her head open live on stage. Also, there's only about three of us playing.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:52 (seventeen years ago)

Shayne Ward is enjoying himself!

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

that's enough for me, out before the arm waving

xp

whatever, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

Zoned out and forgot the TV was on and this was still going.

Hey Jude = bollocks as always.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:58 (seventeen years ago)

Johns Lennon and Peel have rolled so much in their graves tonight they've actually swopped coffins.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

And we're finished just in time for News at Ten. It was better when Russell Brand was presenting.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:00 (seventeen years ago)

See you all next year. same time, same place.

Raw Patrick, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

Hopefully the Brit Awards will go the way of TOTP and next year it'll just be posted on a Facebook page, or something.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

Why am I watching the ITV2 aftershow? Why is Lauren Laverne presenting it? Does this mean Mark Kermode turns up in a minute? Please say yes...

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:04 (seventeen years ago)

No, Matt Willis instead. I think I need to go away now.

William Bloody Swygart, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

Sod ITV2, this new Trevor-presented News @ Ten is great, it's like a BBC3 sketch show but funnier. This poor missing chav girl's mother has got two black eyes! Why? No one explains!

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:08 (seventeen years ago)

(xpost) is Willis going to eat a big cock? because just about everything else this evening has...

snoball, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

Good morning. Here be posts from people who watched it without being online at the same time.

Alice on McCartney during the second song: "All the fireworks? It's only Live and Let Die!"

Mark G, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:28 (seventeen years ago)

Good work, Vic Reeves!

DavidM, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:29 (seventeen years ago)

No wonder they kept trailing Pushing Daisies through the ad break.

I suspect ITV will give much consideration to wondering whether they can afford to squander two peak-time hours next year on the Brit School Annual Prizegiving Ceremony and Associated Jam-Making Contest (isn't this supposed to be "the jam generation"?).

Nice of the Arctic Monkeys to try to engineer a Gilbert O'Sullivan revival but that's not going to change my feelings about their duff second album.

If they were going to give Mark Ronson an award then arguably the Outstanding Contribution one should have been awarded to Stars On 45.

Kaiser Chiefs "will play the weirdest set they've ever done." As Peel said: "anyone who tells you they're mad isn't."

Amy at least looking and acting like a proper star, even if I can't abide her music. Ditto Ditto.

Mika breaking new boundaries in bitonality.

SO BRAVE Kylie now the new Annie Lennox: official.

I assume Radiohead were being "punished."

"THIS MAN WROTE THE SOUNDTRACK TO THE REVOLUTION!"
Ten seconds later: "Let's dance tonight/Everything's alright."

The ratings for this week's Torchwood will be interesting to know.

Dingbod Kesterson, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:31 (seventeen years ago)

two hours of your lives you won't be getting back.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

That's what you think.

DavidM, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:35 (seventeen years ago)

Sharon sort of announced "The man who wrote the songs for the Revolution. IN FACT..."

(stopped? Seeing as even she knows Revolution was written by John)

"... blumblumblum WROTE OZZY'S THEME SONG umm.."

(stopped again? If that was a reference to Oz's version of "In my life" as wrote by Lennon again)

"... "

spontaneouly combusted. That was no flamethrower during Live and Let Die Alice!

Mark G, Thursday, 21 February 2008 09:41 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure we'll see Vic Reeves at next year's Brits. Someone has to do the sweeping up and hoovering afterwards.
