guess that also eliminates scarface, beanie siegal, biggie, hey didn't jay-z wear a suit on reasonable doubt???

winston, Friday, 27 June 2008 02:56 (seventeen years ago)

No I mean he's no longer caring about being seen as someone from the hood he's just making money and the same goes for the others...its a bit too...business minded for me and I'm not interested in that shit. It was always gonna happen, he's just more blatant about it now. But Jay-Z's still hype even if he is a suit, he's just not real, he's not representing the same things anymore, he has new ideals. If he ever feels like he's losing out on a fanbase he'll take it back to the streets. Ice Cube said something about this in a recent article...
Same for the rest.

dad a, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

you'd think obama would have "take a chance on me"

Fetchboy, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 14:43 (seventeen years ago)

4. If We MakeIt Through December Merle Haggard

this is a great song

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

geddit? December?

gabbneb, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

I think I go with McCain's set: better Sinatra, less U2, Merle, though I could do without the Neil Diamond.

Euler, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

Merle Haggard fits right in w/ McCain's love for Abba and the Beach Boys

gabbneb, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:50 (seventeen years ago)

3. I'm On Fire Bruce Spingsteen
4. Gimme Shelter Rolling Stones
5. Sinnerman Nina Simone

can't beat that, even with Merle.

clotpoll, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

On review, this is really TS: Obama iPod vs. McCain Walkman. McCain apparently hasn't bought a record in 30 years. The ABBA choices are a nice surprise. I really wanted to think McCain had picked the Haggard song as a reminder of his earlier marital troubles, but no, it was just the theme his campaign manager used to keep them slogging through the campaign last year. Unlike Obama's his picks are pretty studiously apolitical. The Platters and Orbison make sense, since he grew up with the early rock and roll. Looks like McCain is a sentimental dude who likes good music. But on balance, the Obama list by far.

dad a, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

McCain is a happy-talk dude who doesn't like music that is in any way sophisticated

gabbneb, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

Who gets your vote based solely on this list?
GT: If there’s a candidate with Fugees’ “Ready or Not” on his list, I have to vote for him.
RN: McCain has a really likeable list. Then again, Hitler liked some good music, you know?

What were his tastes, such that they jibe with Randy Newman's?

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

xpost: Whoa there, Good Vibrations is a bit sophisticated.

dad a, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

mccain's seems more interesting to me but thats prob just cuz its less familiar (aka lol old)

deej, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

both look committee-selected

abanana, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

i remember when mccain was trying to get the bid in 2000, he made a couple comments to reporters about how he liked the nine inch nails that his daughter (or niece, or granddaughter, not sure) was listening to.

Fetchboy, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

his daughter is a total hipster btw altho lolz I misread your post as "when McCain was trying to get laid in 2000"

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

He talks about seeing NIN, Kid Rock, and Busta Rhymes in the second clip here: http://newsroom.mtv.com/2008/03/27/john-mccain-alan-keyes-and-nine-inch-nails-the-whole-sordid-affair/. My brain hurts.

dad a, Tuesday, 12 August 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

i'm pretty sure there are committee-selected and personal choices on both lists

Good Vibrations is a bit sophisticated

ok, but it can be enjoyed in entirely unsophisticated fashion

Tony Nyadundo's Luo praise song - a 17-minute-long piece entitled Obama set to a traditional, repetitive Luo beat - describes the musician's imaginary tour to the U.S. after Obama wins the elections. In Nyadundo's fictional lyrics, Obama and his wife Michelle welcome Nyadundo, and Obama orders that a bull be slaughtered to honor the musician's arrival. According to the Daily Metro, Nyadundo has sold "over two million copies" of this fantasy song.
