My adoration for "Over and Over" is unwavering. I've also been spinning "Brown Eyes" and "What Makes You Think You're The One?" a lot these days.

I would like to retract any comments I made on the previous thread about the superiority of certain Camper Van Beethoven versions of the songs over the originals. I was so, so wrong.

could say that about almost any track tbh xp, but then you'd have an entirely different album. Not 'Sisters of the Moon' though, the production there could not have been improved upon.

well, I know I'm Not Wrong strikes me especially because the big hook in that song is totally covered up in the mix (compare with track five of the demos disc). you just get a hint of it and then for some reason Buckingham decides to get all Glenn Gould and cover it up even more with some lackluster scatting

I only started loving "Never Forget" when Cut Copy included it on their mix last summer.

I already loved it to bits but I had a newfound respect for Cut Copy after that particular trick.

Piss -- if I'd seen this, I woulda put "That's All For Everyone" into a tie for first.

Well I'm only just starting side 3, but this is really amazing. I grew up with parents playing Rumors and later a greatest hits thing, so I'd kinda always thought I'd heard all the Mac I'd ever need. I WAS WRONG. This is great great. Loving "What Makes You Think You're the One" so much right now.

Also "Not That Funny", great song.

I'm just now coming to this album too. I love the use of alternating wide open spaces and claustrophobic sound spatialization in the production. "Walk a Thin Line" is the sound of driving home at 4 AM and trying not to asleep at the wheel.

And "Sara" is gorgeous of course but I try not to play it too much so that it retains its mystery.

that's why the demo version on the remaster is such a joy

corey otm about the wavering between openness and claustrophobia, I think that really is a key to why I'm enjoying this so much. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the "punkier" Buckingham tunes.

This album has gone from being the underrated follow-up to Rumours to quite possibly being in danger of being one of the most overrated records ever. On here, at least, and I love the record.

And yes, it's a great record - well-performed, mostly well-written and impeccably produced. There's a lot to love and admire about it. On the other hand, it isn't completely devoid of filler, the Lindsay tracks aren't really as "out there" as some would have you believe, and I do think it's a record that, as great as it is, does get some over-the-top praise. Good record, though.

74. "Brown Eyes" and "Never Make Me Cry" are really the same song: the first relating the onset of a desire that can only lead to danger, the second the devastating results.

at any rate I'm glad the proto-Balearic bliss of Tango has replaced Tusk as the Mac album du jour.

"filler" is another problematic one.. i know what you mean, stuff like "that's enough for me" is underdeveloped and 'tossed off'-sounding. it's still better than frickin "don't stop". incidentally, christine's songs on tusk are much greater than christine's songs on rumours ("you make loving fun" excepted, of course). all imo, of course. signed, self-important arbiter of artistic quality

Mirage is now the underrated album of the Buckingham era, though it is not as strong as Tusk.

I agree that McVie's songs are Tusk's secret weapon - each one is a classic.

Tusk's stature has really risen even in the last three years. Not a forgotten album at all anymore. I feel like it's about as well known as Rumours at this point. No filler on it. The underdeveloped experiments and the band's ability to stretch out are what make it great.

'Honey Hi' is shite, though - nowhere near the level of McVie's songs on Rumours, definitely not a classic and the very definition of filler. So there's three theories debunked right off the bat.

McVie's tracks on Tango In The Night, though, are mostly awesome. Trying to imagine that record without 'Little Lies' and 'Everywhere' is just impossible.

As for underrated Mac albums, then Bare Trees would be my pick. I've always thought that one deserves more attention than it gets.
