damnit, that's what i get for searching for "tusk poll" instead of just tusk fleetwood.

mods feel free to delete.

LOL ian. you were on that other thread

carne asada, Saturday, 3 May 2008 00:00 (seventeen years ago)

This is always some random shit but I like to make sure that "I Know I'm Not Wrong" gets a vote.

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 3 May 2008 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

it is clearly the sweep that runs from 14 --> 18, other poll results be damned.

"NEVER FORGET"

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Saturday, 3 May 2008 02:27 (seventeen years ago)

"Brown Eyes" this time. The McVie tracks need more love, ie votes.

DavidM, Saturday, 3 May 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah. I want to see at least three votes for "Never Make Me Cry". You know McVie is the queen of this band.

But if you just can't help yourself and you have to play "Sara" again, I understand.

My adoration for "Over and Over" is unwavering. I've also been spinning "Brown Eyes" and "What Makes You Think You're The One?" a lot these days.

I would like to retract any comments I made on the previous thread about the superiority of certain Camper Van Beethoven versions of the songs over the originals. I was so, so wrong.

I've seen so many things that made me wonder
But sometimes its hard to tell
I said
"Take your time"
But no one was listening
I walk a thin line

They told me that I never would recover
Still some say they knew me well
I said
"Stay by my side"
But no one said nothin'
I walk a thin line

I said
"Please toe the line"
But no one was listening
I walk a thin line

I said
"Fate takes time"
But no one was listening
I walk a thin line

could say that about almost any track tbh xp, but then you'd have an entirely different album. Not 'Sisters of the Moon' though, the production there could not have been improved upon.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 2 August 2009 22:08 (sixteen years ago)

well, I know I'm Not Wrong strikes me especially because the big hook in that song is totally covered up in the mix (compare with track five of the demos disc). you just get a hint of it and then for some reason Buckingham decides to get all Glenn Gould and cover it up even more with some lackluster scatting

matinee, Sunday, 2 August 2009 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

I only started loving "Never Forget" when Cut Copy included it on their mix last summer.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 2 August 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

I already loved it to bits but I had a newfound respect for Cut Copy after that particular trick.

Tim F, Monday, 3 August 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

Piss -- if I'd seen this, I woulda put "That's All For Everyone" into a tie for first.

Well I'm only just starting side 3, but this is really amazing. I grew up with parents playing Rumors and later a greatest hits thing, so I'd kinda always thought I'd heard all the Mac I'd ever need. I WAS WRONG. This is great great. Loving "What Makes You Think You're the One" so much right now.

"I am a fairly respected poster." (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Sunday, 21 November 2010 23:52 (fourteen years ago)

Also "Not That Funny", great song.

"I am a fairly respected poster." (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 22 November 2010 00:06 (fourteen years ago)

I'm just now coming to this album too. I love the use of alternating wide open spaces and claustrophobic sound spatialization in the production. "Walk a Thin Line" is the sound of driving home at 4 AM and trying not to asleep at the wheel.

the coffee of coffees (corey), Monday, 22 November 2010 00:13 (fourteen years ago)

And "Sara" is gorgeous of course but I try not to play it too much so that it retains its mystery.

the coffee of coffees (corey), Monday, 22 November 2010 00:14 (fourteen years ago)

that's why the demo version on the remaster is such a joy

xanaxdu (electricsound), Monday, 22 November 2010 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

corey otm about the wavering between openness and claustrophobia, I think that really is a key to why I'm enjoying this so much. I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the "punkier" Buckingham tunes.

"What Makes You Think You're the One" (Buckingham) – 3:32
"Storms" (Nicks) – 5:29
"That's All for Everyone" (Buckingham) – 3:04
"Not That Funny" (Buckingham) – 3:13
"Sisters of the Moon" (Nicks) – 4:40

This album has gone from being the underrated follow-up to Rumours to quite possibly being in danger of being one of the most overrated records ever. On here, at least, and I love the record.

lute bro (brimstead), Monday, 30 May 2016 21:42 (nine years ago)

I'm confused here - did I not say I love the record?

And yes, it's a great record - well-performed, mostly well-written and impeccably produced. There's a lot to love and admire about it. On the other hand, it isn't completely devoid of filler, the Lindsay tracks aren't really as "out there" as some would have you believe, and I do think it's a record that, as great as it is, does get some over-the-top praise. Good record, though.

Turrican, Monday, 30 May 2016 22:00 (nine years ago)

74. "Brown Eyes" and "Never Make Me Cry" are really the same song: the first relating the onset of a desire that can only lead to danger, the second the devastating results.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 May 2016 22:01 (nine years ago)

at any rate I'm glad the proto-Balearic bliss of Tango has replaced Tusk as the Mac album du jour.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 30 May 2016 22:02 (nine years ago)

"filler" is another problematic one.. i know what you mean, stuff like "that's enough for me" is underdeveloped and 'tossed off'-sounding. it's still better than frickin "don't stop". incidentally, christine's songs on tusk are much greater than christine's songs on rumours ("you make loving fun" excepted, of course). all imo, of course. signed, self-important arbiter of artistic quality

lute bro (brimstead), Monday, 30 May 2016 22:58 (nine years ago)

Mirage is now the underrated album of the Buckingham era, though it is not as strong as Tusk.

I agree that McVie's songs are Tusk's secret weapon - each one is a classic.

Tim F, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:14 (nine years ago)

with our powers combined this summer, Tim, we'll change this state of affairs.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:15 (nine years ago)

i saw this in a record store last week: http://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/8342

Tusk's stature has really risen even in the last three years. Not a forgotten album at all anymore. I feel like it's about as well known as Rumours at this point. No filler on it. The underdeveloped experiments and the band's ability to stretch out are what make it great.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:23 (nine years ago)

Three years?! More like twelve at least. Check out the number of ILM threads.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:30 (nine years ago)

You're right. I feel like we've reached peak Tusk though.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 00:49 (nine years ago)

'Honey Hi' is shite, though - nowhere near the level of McVie's songs on Rumours, definitely not a classic and the very definition of filler. So there's three theories debunked right off the bat.

xxxxpost:

Well, if you truly believe that it's a better composition/song than 'Don't Stop', 'Songbird' or even 'Oh Daddy' (which is my least favourite song on Rumours by some considerable distance) then, y'know, you're entitled to think that, as utterly batshit as that stance is. Nobody, absolutely nobody sees a copy of Tusk and thinks "fuck me! I just have to listen to 'Honey Hi'"! 'Sara', undoubtedly. 'Walk A Thin Line', 'That's All For Everyone' ... yeah, I could see it. 'Honey Hi'? No fucking way. Inessential, airy fluff at best.

Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:29 (nine years ago)

0 votes for 'Think About Me' ... what's that all about, then? It's McVie's second best song on the record after 'Over and Over'

McVie's tracks on Tango In The Night, though, are mostly awesome. Trying to imagine that record without 'Little Lies' and 'Everywhere' is just impossible.

Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:52 (nine years ago)

As for underrated Mac albums, then Bare Trees would be my pick. I've always thought that one deserves more attention than it gets.
