ILM Snapshot: The Last Five records you bought pt 2 (The one-year anniversary edition!)

Tom's previous post on this was WILDLY SUCCESSFUL, in fact still going after one year. Because that previous thread is becoming "unwieldy" here is a one-year anniversary post to lighten the load-time and start again (and consequently lighten the load on Tom's own email for the notifications). So: what were your last five records purchased?

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Special note: if Tom wants to post his own anniversary thread I can delete this one.

Apologies to alex in montreal, as part II was already posted here. Maybe I can slither out of this on a technicality, as II and 2 are theoretically different? Like a double b-side, perhaps!

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But it turns out this is the second pt 2.

Alex in Montreal would pbly like to throttle us eh?

Andy K, Tuesday, 7 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But...but...this is the ANNIVERSARY EDITION. *whimper*

pirateking, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, you can consider my post as the ill-fated Special Summer Edition. This is the proper One-Year Anniversary Special.

Piano Magic ("Mar de Nom") and Papa M ("Whatever, Mortal") are my last two purchases, but I'll probably get the new French Kicks and Manual albums tomorrow or so.

Roscoe Mitchell, Nonaah (Nessa, n-9/10) 2LP

Any impressions of this? I am interested in hearing this, but I only really like a small fraction of AEC and their solo projects. Still, I do like some of it, and am often intrigued by descriptions of the work I haven't heard (including this piece in particular). Does it have a fairly discernible structure?

DeRayMi, Wednesday, 8 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought a bunch of older music that I've never heard:

This is Our Music, Galaxie 500
Kid A, Radiohead
Faithless Street, Whiskeytown
All the Young Dudes, Mott the Hoople
And the new Doves from amazon.co.uk, because I'm going to see them at Graceland in June.

Hey, you're mean. ;-) All I know is that it's a perfect Mother's Day gift for my mum, who is as much of a Star Wars geek as I.

Actually, I *have* just bought a slew of amazing records, but I'll have to wait for the package to arrive before I can remember again what I bought.

Uh, I've only listened to it once, so I s'pose I've only got first impressions to go on, but I liked it. A lot of it is mostly solo Roscoe, the first side esp. (he's playing mostly a repeating alto (?) pattern that seems to upset the audience members!). Unlike a lot of AEoC and related stuff, there's not much percussion on it. But I still liked it.

Then again, I tend to really, really like AEoC stuff, solo or otherwise. Well, up to a point (that point being mostly the 80s stuff on ECM, although some of that is okay).

Steely Dan "Greatest Hits" (or something like that) Santana "Supernatural" Isaac Delgado "La Formula" Oscar D'Leon [recent collection of boleros--title escapes me]

The Oscar D'Leon is marred for me by an intrusive string section. Isaac Delgado is yet more current Cuban music that I can't seem to get into. I have to give it a bit more time, however. The Santana is alright, but maybe I would have been better off just enjoying hearing "Smooth" occasionally at the gym. (I love cha cha cha as a form, and I like Santana's guitar, but the vocals here are going to get old quickly, I'm afraid.)

An ILM poster (albeit a marginal one) who actually buys Santana CDs.

V/A : More Bass Culture (dub comp on Metro label mainly Tubby with a bit of Perry and Scientist - it's fantastic)

V/A : Studio One Rockers (Soul Jazz - it's fantastic too!)

V/A : Disco not Disco 2

Comsat Angels : Sleep No More (vinyl - oddly, never got around to owning this, although used to have on tape)

I liberated the following 12" singles from a closing down sale for £1 each :

Telescopes : To Kill A Slow Girl Walking

Telescopes : Everso

Telescopes : Flying

The Wake : Talk about the Past

The Wake : Something's Outside/The Host

X-Mal Deutschland : Dreamhouse

Ride : Chelsea Girl/Drive Blind/+ 2 others

New Fast Automatic Daffodils : Lions EP

New Fast Automatic Daffodils : Beam Me Up EP

Abcderians - Smiling Monarchs/Benway's Carnival (on Factory)

The Telescopes 12 inchers are all desparately, desparately bad so I'll sell them on. I have the Wake ones already, but I couldn't bear to see them in the sale. Best finds here are Abcderians and X-Mal - Dreamhouse is icy euro-pop much closer to Propaganda than their miserable early stuff on 4AD.

I was not so mental as to turn the notifications on!

My last five -

Heartless Crew - Crisp Biscuit Vol.1 (a bit disappointing on first listen - too much MCing and not even very good MCing at that, but I only listened to the 'jungle' disc so far)

Various Artists - Bollywood Nights (solid comp of recent, MTV- influenced filmi music, sounded very good on bus in)

Okay, so my Blackbean order came in...yow. I have no idea how long Mike is running his sale -- it isn't the whole catalog, but he can probably forward you an updated list of what's still available if you ask him. But here's what I got, for just under $150 -- bought some vinyl for the first time in a dog's age, prices being good and all. Most of this I'm just going ahead and taking a chance on, why not?:

V/A - Saturday Night Fish Fry (Soul Jazz N'awlins funk comp)

V/A - Rubble 3 'Nightmares in Wonderland' (vinyl)

V/A - Rubble 6 'The Clouds Have Groovy faces' (vinyl)

Got the last two for £6 each off e-bay. Rubble vinyl, even the Past+Present reissues, goes for £20+ normally, especially the low numbered ones. I was the only bidder, because the seller didn't put 'Rubble' in the item title for the search engine to pick up. So presumably hardly anyone saw them.

Dr. C, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Here's possibly my 5 favourites from the above-mentioned splurge, although it was nearly all good:

The Family of God - s/t

Kid606 - ps i love you

Biggest disappointment: AntiPopConsortium - Tragic Epilogue

Some nice tracks on this one. He's underrated, I think. A cut above all these laptop kids, IMO.

R. J. Dio, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Secret confession time: I also bot
Quiet Riot - Metal Health LP
Loverboy - Loverboy LP

But I only bought them to give to Sundar at the Toronto ILM meet!

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, I confess again: I went back and bought another copy of that Loverboy album for myself.

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean is a good Canadian.

Andy K, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Andy, you bought Dio -- words can't convey my happiness at admitting this audacity. :-)

As for me:

The Walkabouts -- I'm Sorry Chris and Carla -- Come As You Aren't The Angels of Light -- We Were Alive! Romanthony -- Romanworld Richie Hawtin/Pete Namlook -- From Within II

Alright alright -- I didn't buy Dio. I just might someday though.

Andy K, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff W, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Last couple:

Foxy Brown - Broken Silence (finally... - an awesome album)
Markus Guentner - In Moll (thick mollases ambience)
Coloma - Silverware (Party Fears Two 2002)
V/A: Jon Carter - 7 Live (Ronan loves this with good reason I reckon)
N.E.R.D. - In Search Of... (hard to find and expensive original version)
V/A (Roule) - Waves (endlessly fun French house action)

Tim, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff...this is the Stan Freberg set, which was released on Rhino, and does a pretty good job of collecting a lot of the singles that may not have made it to record...there's also a full CD of his commercials through the years, as well as a short video with some of his TV commercials. There's also a newish video/song called "The Conspiraski Theory" which has a catchy tune but fairly weak lyrics. I've been collecting a lot of the old Capitol records, but this was still worth picking up, if only for the packaging: the top pops off along the dotted line, which means you can rip his head off and expose a cartoon brain underneath.

Lovespirals Windblown Kiss

Great album, isn't it? I've known Ryan on a casual basis for some time via his music, while Anji and I were KUCI DJs together for many years (and she used to go out with a very good friend of mine, but that's another story!) and is a good soul. I was tickled pink when they decided to start making music together, and I heartily recommend Windblown Kiss to all -- it takes Ryan's earlier Cocteau Twins obsessions and blends them with Anji's wide-ranging musical preferences to create a lovely blend. Also might include the only worthwhile cover of an America song ever (and it isn't "A Horse With No Name").

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, I'll have to hold off until after more than the one listening I've had so far. It's quite a departure from their earlier, more gauzy, Cocteau-ian sound, which I liked a great deal on Ardor and Ever. I'm still in a bit of shock at all the saxaphone. :-)

Curt, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mitch lastnamewithheld, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Been on a buying lull because I have so much review stuff to get through -- here are my last 3: Farben - Texstar (Andy Kell says this is his favorite Jelinek stuff; not sure I'd go that far, but this is an incredible comp.)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (hadn't heard a note by them before, but I like to hear what people are talking about. Good so far, but haven't listened to it enough.)
Gosub - Miami to Brooklyn EP (sweet nu-electro)

Mark, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Give it time, Curt. You will appreciate the love. :-)

I think the next few things I'll buy will also be from Blackbean again. But I need to check with Mike about that. I did get the Peter Parkers EP in the mail the other day, though, and to say it is utterly fantastic and the best new shoegaze stuff out here is to understate it -- and they have a nicely messed up Lyres cover on there as well!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Frantic", Bryan Ferry "BRMC", Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot", Wilco "When I Was Cruel", Elvis Costello "C'mon, C'mon", Sheryl Crow (fuck you, she's great)

Abba - Gold (been meaning to buy for ages; don't know how I ever lived without it)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Ned! I think I like Discipline better than Beat, too (though still not as much as Red or SABB)... Andy, if you're reading this, you've probably been called out on it numerous times, but the title track from Real to Reel... is a redo of "Radio-activity," not "Neon Lights," I'm pretty sure. I think I'm going to buy some Stockholm Monsters from LTM pretty soon - what a cool label, and so cheap through Darla!

A very very very wise choice. In fact, buy everything from LTM (as I've pretty much done).

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 14 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Great, two entries in a row. Obv. I'm doing too much shopping, or you folx are doing enough posting. Today was a record store hop with Julio, and I ended up buying a whack of cheap records:

Simple Minds - Empires and Dance ($1)
Simple Minds - Sons and Fascination ($1)
Simple Minds - Reel to Reel Cacophany ($1)
Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain (yes folks, $1)
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (wouldn't ya know it, $1)
(are you freaks happy now?)

Also: The Happy End - There's Nothing Quite Like Money (I know nothing about this one at all, but it's this gigantic horn section doing a bunch of Brecht tunes, Ives, something about Che Guevara, and a Chinese folk tune...and it was only $1, so it was naturally in the bag)
Scritti Politti - Songs to Remember (LP, and the first time I've ever seen any pre-Cupid and Psyche albums from them)
Buggles - Adventures in Modern Recording (LP, and a companion to the more famous Buggles album, which I nabbed yesterday dirt cheap)
Wayne and Shuster - In Person Comedy Performance (classic Canadian comedy)
Jean Piché - Heliograms (a very nice electronic/electroacoustic album from a Montréal composer, who never emailed me back about availability of this on CD, so I nabbed the album used)

The absolute Grand Prize, though:

HAs anyone really seen the VERY early singles?
Obviously I never have, but they must be out there, because I just found a big whack of them on Audiogalaxy. (looked at allmusic.com for tracklists, which means I'm probably missing out on a whole pile of songs that were on singles that didn't make that list for whatever reason...anyone have a complete discography?)

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 16 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That reminds me Sean, you should kidnap Julio for the Kee To Bala Sloan show.

Okay, I've given up hope. I will never, ever find the first three Comsats CD reissues. I want them so badly I can taste it, but they seem like the rarest things on earth. Is there anyone reading this who has extra copies of them (or just one) that I could buy from you? Know of anyone who might want to part with them? Of course you don't, geez - everyone who bought the reissues knew they were going to love them and never let them go. And I have a strange feeling they will never be reissued again. I am so sad about this - god, what a materialistic shit I am! Can anyone brighten up my day?

Fiesta Latina 2001. (I bought this for "Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos" by Mickey Taveras, an admitedly sappy song, but one that always has an emotional impact when I hear it in a club, and which does have some melodic appeal. It sounds absolutely at its worst, however, being played on my CD player. Not much else on here that I would have bothered to buy, though the poppy "Bombon de Azucar" by Charly Cruz is kind of nice to have. Another song familiar from club going but one I had not identified.)

"Destino Paraiso" by Gianluca Grignani. (It wasn't enough to have the salsa version of "Mi Historia. . ." I had to have the original, and this is it. The original is not necessarily much better. In fact, I'm beginning to think I prefer the cheesy bachata version that Tavares did, since it is impossible to take it seriously. Grignani originally recorded the song in his native Italian, but since it became successful in Latin America (in cover versions?) he decided to record it in Spanish as well. I haven't yet heard the rest of the junk on this tape.)

"New Moon" Abdelli. (Previously heard, and pretty good.)

"Death of the Rare Bird Ymir/Bonobo Beach" Hans Reichel. (I thought I had taped part of the first title listed here off the radio a while back, but it doesn't seem to be the same thing. It might have been Hans Reichel. Either way, I think I like this, though whether it will be able to maintain my interest on repeated listenings isn't clear.)

Does anyone else see the same albums popping up here and there on different people's lists and wonder if this thread is being used as a subconscious suggestion-maker? I definitely think it's happened with my purchases (though sometimes it's been on purpose). Anyway, my last five:

Dominique, you are the most obscure person I have never met. Wakhevitch is proving nearly impossible to come by.

Obscure? Why, I'm here almost everyday! :)

Yes, it was a crime for me to expose Wakhevitch's greatness, knowing full well that the excellent Donc... box is out of print, and only ever existed as a 500 unit pressing. You can sometimes find LPs for about a trillion dollars on ebay, or we can do some kind of CDR trade if absolutely no one has it.

All three have some good tracks. I'm disappointed that the "Yay Boy" on the Africando CD is not the mix I am familiar with from being out in clubs, which includes some very effective overdubs (not something you usually hear in salsa songs, incidentally--I mean not in such a way that you can hear they are overdubs).

I've had to deal with one of those before. They are actually quite tough to remove. I'd suggest a hacksaw if you have one readily available.

There was at least one good thing about returning to Croydon. Beanos :) For the princely sum of £2.50 -

Captain Soul - Beat Your Crazy Head Against The Sky
Max Tundra - Some Best Friend You Turned Out To Be
Sing Sing - The Joy Of Sing Sing
Geneva - Weather Underground
Quasi - Field Studies
Kitty-Yo Sampler (5 Years In 33 Minutes)
Ken Stringfellow - Touched
Lorien - Under The Waves
And some sampler that has Creed on and as such I am not touching.

Oh, and I got the Underworld live album in Smiths for £2.99, but I won't be listening to that for a while, I wouldn't think. It's gonna take an awful, awful lot to dislodge Sing Sing from the CD player...

Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By
Talking Heads - More Songs About Buildings and Food
Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain
XTC - English Settlement
Catherine Wheel - Ferment
I think I'm getting back into shoegazing stuff in a big way, too, after being floored by a nighttime listen to Souvlaki (which reminded me what a crushing record it actually is).

Clarke B., Saturday, 6 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hm...yeah, that'll do it to you. "When the Sun Hits" was doubtless especially overwhelming?

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 7 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, most definitely, Ned - that song comes at just the right time on the record, which I think is incredibly well-sequenced overall. Ferment's really starting to grow on me now, too - I think I still might like Chrome a smidge more, but the guitar break in "Black Metallic" is one of shoegazing's most stunning moments, I think - especially when the lead guitarist finally breaks into a riff of sorts (it feels so great). The Wheel have such a knack for balancing noise and notes - that entire section feels like what I would imagine it would be like to hang on to a post in the middle of a hurricane, barely keeping my grip as I'm lashing and swaying about. One time, a friend of mine asked me how Catherine Wheel were any different from Bush - an interesting comparison, but I'm afraid to listen any further to Bush to find out if it actually holds water...

Clarke B., Sunday, 7 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My 21st brithday was last week so I finally got some new music:

DJ Shadow - The Private Press (I'm loving it, much better than expected)

Wu Tang Clan - Enter the 36 Chambers (I'd had mp3s of this for too long, flat-out classic)

Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow (disappointed so far, stays stuck in the same groove too long, but my opinion may change with more listens)

Joy Division - Permanent (my first experience with the JD so I wanted a solid sampler with Dead Souls, Atmosphere, Love..., I'll probably end up getting their other releases eventually)

A mix of some opera and classical things my friend made me: Bizet, others. Good.

King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic (why this mint condition LP was in the dollar bin at Plan 9 I'll never know, but I'm thankful)
I love everything I've bought recently - I'm really on a good streak. Also, I didn't buy these, but rather checked them out from the radio station library, but the Associates' Fourth Drawer Down and Buy the Contortions are absolutely crushing me with their goodness these last few days.

Cinerama ~ 'Torino' - Gadge is sex mad. Hooray!
Frou Frou ~ 'Details'
Creation Records ~ 'International Guardians of Rock 'n' Roll 1983 - 1999' - bought this cassette(!) from the local Co-Op for 3.99. Highlights: 'Upside Down', Pastels' 'Baby Honey', Boo's 'Lazarus', Felt's 'All The People I Like Are Those That Are Dead', The Loft's 'Up The hill and Down The Slopes', Sugar's 'If I Can't Change Your Mind', but, especially The House of Love's 'Shine On' which, not having heard it in years and years, just stoppped me in my tracks. So evocotive, it reminded me of my college days. Esp the line "I'm not the person that I used to be / so young / just 18", I was 18 when it was released, and it took me straight back there. Bittersweet.
The Shins ~ 'Oh, Inverted World'
The New Pornographers ~ 'Mass Romantic'

This was all in HMV's sale, again. I know it's > 5, but I bought them all together.

Various Artists: Sub Rosa vs. Kompakt -- Found this used. A few excellent tracks, some only OK. I like the ones where Kompakt wins. I think.
Goodiepal: Narc Beacon - Excellent goofy electroacoustic stuff.
Various Artists: Tigerbeat6 Comp. -- Not terribly impressed with this yet, but haven't listened to it much.
John Cage, Henri Posseur, Milton Babbitt: New Electronic Music from Leaders of the Avant-Garde -- I can't turn something like this down when I find it on vinyl cheap. Lengthy liner notes on the back cover, of course, and it's fun seeing how this music was presented to the public when it was reased in 1962. The Cage piece, "Various II", is pretty incredible from an historial point of view. Mostly a phono cartidge being scraped on a piano by David Tudor. Sounds very contemporary as noise music.

Actually been downloading MP3s for the first time in my life. I have a faster connection (still only 56K tho). Favorite recent download: Frida's "There's Something Going On."

GLOW PART TWO BY MICROPHONES IT WAS VERY BAD

UMM, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, except for a very brief portion of the first disc that the clerk played me instore, thinking I wanted to hear it instead of just buy it. I found it at Abba-Zappa (they also have copies of Love Agenda and Here Comes Success at 10 dollars apiece as well, may well go back for the latter). Will let you know.

By the way, if you wanted to get any more vinyl, there's a collector store on Main Street, RIC Collectables, currently having a half price sale for the next two weeks. It seems a bit overpriced, but the half price thing makes it more reasonable. It's 155 Main, at Gerrard.

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 27 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The OHM alb is awesome and highly recommended. I bought six rekkids last night totally on impulse. They are: * Alice Coltrane - Universal Consciousness
* Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On Me
* Isan - Clockwork Menagerie
* Spoon - A Series Of Sneaks
* Phil Ranelin - Remixes
* Immediate Action (Hefty 2CD comp)

yeah, I've been searching for the 'wired..' rec for the early stuff (since I haven't seen any of the early stuff). Got the 'word and the flesh (awesome) and veil (heard it briefly, don't know yet). Love agenda and here comes success can also be found at neurotica. but yeah, let me know what you think of it.

there's a nice band of susans page here: http://www.monotremata.com/bos/

This is an excerpt from the FAQ: ''Page Hamilton left BOS to form his own band Helmet, which you already know unless you have been living in a cave for the last few years.''

I didn't even know that helmet existed! and wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the band of susans site.

''Alice Coltrane - Universal Consciousness''

Another spree in the $1 section of Open City yielded 12 records, but most are just stuff like Blancmange and Jean-Michel Jarre and such that I won't listen to much, but a couple of real finds:

Lily Tomlin - This is a Recording
Dave Dudley - Greatest Hits (inspired to buy by recent ILM thread--with "Truck Drivin' Son of a Gun" and "Six Days on the Road"!)
Shelley Berman - Outside and A Personal Appearance

Also got a couple CDs since last update:

Band of Susans - Here Comes Success
Tom Robinson - War Baby (remastered version of Hope and Glory, it'd appear)

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 29 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Curve - Pubic Fruit (I like this better than Doppelganger - still a little slick for my tastes, and the lyrics aren't much, but works up a good swirl nonetheless) ;-)

Jeff W, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bought:
Stevie Wonder: Music of My Mind
Adam Ant: Antics in the Attic
Received as gifts:

Sonido Isleno: Tres is the Place
Orqesta Gitano: Salsa Gitana
Rebeca Mauleon w/ Orestes Vilato: Round Trip

Bought as a gift:

Sun Ra: Greatest Hits

I suddenly had to get a copy of Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman," a childhood favorite, and still a song which amazes me. The Adam Ant purchase may represent an ILM influence, though I seem to remember thinking about it long before. I always kind of liked Adam Ant (soley on the basis of hearing him on the radio). I'm not sure how much I'm actually going to want to play this, but it wasn't too expensive and has most or all of the songs I would want (as far as I know). Tres is the Place is more or less a Latin jazz album, with strong enough folkloric elements to keep me happy, though some tracks feature the more smooth/fusion sounding Latin jazz I don't particularly like. The title track is particularly good. Some of it is pretty danceable. Orquesta Gitano is a West Coast ensemble playing in several different Latin styles. I haven't heard enough to have a strong opinion, but I think I like it overall. I don't expect to like the Rebeca Manolin CD, from what I've heard so far. Blah Latin jazz, to my ears. I gave the Sun Ra CD to the person who gave me these other CDs. I also was happily surprised by how much she seemed to appreciate "Space is the Place" when I played that song for her (from the Impulse album under the same title). When she first mentioned "Tres is the Place," she was unaware of the allusion being made.

"Wickerman" is possibly the scariest song I've heard in ages, like "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" fermented & delustred) ° DJ Sir-Vere - Rapper's Delight (haha Mai FM's 10th anniversary comp but since my knowledge of RAP HISTORY is fairly poor I'm really enjoying it; plus his mixing skills are breathtaking) ° Human League - Greatest Hits (. . . I wish I'd heard this before I learnt the name of the random guy I started chatting with in an SF bar was Phil Oakey . . . "Don't You Want Me" is the new Best Song Evah!) ° The Corners Of The Mouth (random cheap ambient/dub/etc comp with Seefeel, Mouse On Mars, EAR, Oval, etc. nothing's registered so far, but in a good way)

Sunra- nothing is

Julio, what other Sun Ra would you say this sounds like the most? I'm afraid it may be too chaotic for my taste, but I do like, for instance, "Other Planes of There" and "When Angels Speak of Love" (album). I'm about due for a couple Sun Ra CDs, except that I am trying not to buy any CDs for maybe another month.

Dream Command - Fire on the Moon

Ah, which you're going to give to me. Thank you. ;-)

Deraymi- I have only heard this once and I couldn't absorb everything in one listen (a good sign) (currently busy with work right now) but from that first listen I thought it was quite organised myself (it seemed that his piano was linking all the different sections but i can't remember). I'll listen to it before I go to sleep and I'll post something to the sun ra thread sometime tomorrow.

This is only my third Sun ra release. the soundtrack rec was the first, the live album 'It is forbidden' from an appearance in 1974 was the second (that's a stunning slab of vinyl).

In fact, I am going to concentrate on Sun Ra LPs and derek bailey for the next month or so. For the Lps it seems that the 60s stuff is readily available and that's what i'm going to.

''except that I am trying not to buy any CDs for maybe another month.''

good luck with that. I couldn't do it unless I was broke.

Ned, you mean I actually own an album that you don't?!?! Holy moley. Anyway, I'd be happy to burn you a CDR of it, perhaps in exchange for a CDR compilation of the pre-DI Go Pop singles or the early Chapterhouse EPs? Just get in touch with me, and we can work something out. ;-)

Besides, while it's no Fiction (or even My Mind's Eye), it's better than Mistah Kellman would have you believe!

If it weren't for my world.com style accounting practices, it would be clear that I am broke.
