Any impressions of this? I am interested in hearing this, but I only really like a small fraction of AEC and their solo projects. Still, I do like some of it, and am often intrigued by descriptions of the work I haven't heard (including this piece in particular). Does it have a fairly discernible structure?

Actually, I *have* just bought a slew of amazing records, but I'll have to wait for the package to arrive before I can remember again what I bought.

Uh, I've only listened to it once, so I s'pose I've only got first impressions to go on, but I liked it. A lot of it is mostly solo Roscoe, the first side esp. (he's playing mostly a repeating alto (?) pattern that seems to upset the audience members!). Unlike a lot of AEoC and related stuff, there's not much percussion on it. But I still liked it.

Then again, I tend to really, really like AEoC stuff, solo or otherwise. Well, up to a point (that point being mostly the 80s stuff on ECM, although some of that is okay).

Don't think I picked anything else up then.

Neu! 2 - CD

The Who - First album bootleg with extra tracks from My Gen sessions, High Numbers sessions and alternative singles takes. They've done a great job on remastering this - it's the mono mix and the sound is really punchy.

Great album, isn't it? I've known Ryan on a casual basis for some time via his music, while Anji and I were KUCI DJs together for many years (and she used to go out with a very good friend of mine, but that's another story!) and is a good soul. I was tickled pink when they decided to start making music together, and I heartily recommend Windblown Kiss to all -- it takes Ryan's earlier Cocteau Twins obsessions and blends them with Anji's wide-ranging musical preferences to create a lovely blend. Also might include the only worthwhile cover of an America song ever (and it isn't "A Horse With No Name").

I think the next few things I'll buy will also be from Blackbean again. But I need to check with Mike about that. I did get the Peter Parkers EP in the mail the other day, though, and to say it is utterly fantastic and the best new shoegaze stuff out here is to understate it -- and they have a nicely messed up Lyres cover on there as well!

"Destino Paraiso" by Gianluca Grignani. (It wasn't enough to have the salsa version of "Mi Historia. . ." I had to have the original, and this is it. The original is not necessarily much better. In fact, I'm beginning to think I prefer the cheesy bachata version that Tavares did, since it is impossible to take it seriously. Grignani originally recorded the song in his native Italian, but since it became successful in Latin America (in cover versions?) he decided to record it in Spanish as well. I haven't yet heard the rest of the junk on this tape.)

"New Moon" Abdelli. (Previously heard, and pretty good.)

"Death of the Rare Bird Ymir/Bonobo Beach" Hans Reichel. (I thought I had taped part of the first title listed here off the radio a while back, but it doesn't seem to be the same thing. It might have been Hans Reichel. Either way, I think I like this, though whether it will be able to maintain my interest on repeated listenings isn't clear.)

Must mention sean carruthers who burned me copies of Bjork's vespertine for 102 beats that. Also he gave me a copy of Murray street, Flaming lIps' transmissions from the satellite heart, Cloud tastes metallic and hit to death in the future head. Thanks Sean!

This one has Marine (Life in Reverse), Punishment of Luxury (Puppet Life), Blurt (My Mother was a Friend of An Enemy of The People) + The Past Seven Days, Nightingales, Five or Six, Higsons, The Homosexuals etc. I'd kill for Seeds 1 - Pop, but you never see them around these days.

Julio, what other Sun Ra would you say this sounds like the most? I'm about due for a couple Sun Ra CDs, except that I am trying not to buy any CDs for maybe another month.

This is only my third Sun ra release. the soundtrack rec was the first, the live album 'It is forbidden' from an appearance in 1974 was the second (that's a stunning slab of vinyl).

In fact, I am going to concentrate on Sun Ra LPs and derek bailey for the next month or so. For the Lps it seems that the 60s stuff is readily available and that's what i'm going to.
