im missing big non-rap pop acts, also haven't looked up 50, kanye etc etc

also i think it's only fair to limit this to big commercial acts, so don't come in here w/ 5 songs off 2 wilco albums

lex pretend, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:46 (seventeen years ago)

"All Falls Down" (feat. Syleena Johnson)
"Jesus Walks"
"The New Workout Plan"
"Slow Jamz" (feat. Twista & Jamie Foxx)
"Diamonds from Sierra Leone"
"Gold Digger" (feat. Jamie Foxx)

lex pretend, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:48 (seventeen years ago)

surprising how many people fail at this!

I was going to mention Gwen Stefani, but then "Rich Girl" and "Wind It Up" get in the way.

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:49 (seventeen years ago)

i like 'rich girl' but yeah, 'wind it up', not good

max, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

From 2000-2005

Bingo Bango
Romeo
Jus' 1 Kiss
Where's Your Head At
Get Me Off
Do Your Thing
Lucky Star
Good Luck
Plug It In
Oh My Gosh

That's 10 in a row, it all goes a bit pear-shaped after that though.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

i like kanye's last 5 too

lex pretend, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

AGUILERA:

beautiful

the voice within (yes i like this one, so what)

lex pretend, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

i'd accept

Romeo
Jus 1 Kiss
Where's Your Head At
Get Me Off
Lucky Star

quite happily tho doesn't include any AJaxx stuff they did inbetween

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

can someone clarify what 'this decade' means

deej, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

Body Language
Mandarine Girl
Darko
In White Rooms
Night Falls

WINZ.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

keep your lists to 5 cuz there's no point if everyone's just gonna post full discogs from wikipedia

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

deej i mean since 2000

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

can someone clarify what 'this decade' means

I always assume that means 2000 onward, but J0rdan's opening post includes songs from 1998-99.

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

my fav i think are luda, justin and trick w/ kanye's first 5 maybe in there

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

haha my bad, i really thought lex meant people here failing at this thread by not listing madonna, britney, etc

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

haha i am in idiot

i meant 2000 on ignore anything i posted with songs not from the 2000s

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

"Into You" (feat. Tamia)

i dont remember the 4th one but the rest are good

deej, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:06 (seventeen years ago)

"DOA"
"No Way Back"
"The Pretender"

Jimmy Eat World:
"Lucky Denver Mint"

this is serious winner for me so far tho

deej, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

delete "Blister" from the JEW tally, promo-only single that I didn't mean to leave in (xpost)

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

"Because of You"

this song just kills me

nelly

"Country Grammar (Hot Shit)"
"E.I."
"Ride wit Me" (feat. City Spud)
"Batter Up" (feat. Murphy Lee & Ali)
"#1"

if it was "hot in herre" instead of "#1" that would be a really good string

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

"From tha Chuuuch to da Palace" (featuring Pharrell)
"Beautiful" (featuring Charlie Wilson & Pharrell)
"Drop It Like It's Hot" (featuring Pharrell)
"Let's Get Blown" (featuring Pharrell)
"Signs" (featuring Charlie Wilson & Justin Timberlake)

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

Three 6 were on some serious zeitgeist-chasing shit for a while, every single was like an anthem for some trend or accessory back then (xpost)

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

I refuse to accept the validity of any sequence including All These Things That I've Done.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

haha xp
Killers singles would be solid without "All These Things I've Done."

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

would say goldfrapp but 'twist' isn't quite up there enough

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

fall out boy, linkin park and killers are all good

my chem released that "under pressure" cover in between three cheers/black parade :(

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

the baby mama trend

deej, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

of these three Outkast easy but I admit that's only cuz I don't know a couple of those TI singles

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

Controversial:

"In My Place"
"The Scientist"
"Clocks"
"God Put a Smile upon Your Face"
"Speed of Sound"

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

since i lol included outkast singles from 1998 let's go with

"Ms. Jackson"
"So Fresh, So Clean"
"The Whole World" (featuring Killer Mike)
"Hey Ya!"
"The Way You Move"

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

yeah Big Tymers seriously consistent there

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

also even with crap refrain "All These Things That I've Done" is so absolutely one of the Killers' 2 or 3 best singles.

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

"Optimistic"
"Pyramid Song"
"Knives Out"
"I Might Be Wrong"
"There There"

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

ONE MORE TIME
AERODYNAMIC
DIGITAL LOVE
HARDER BETTER FASTER STRONGER
ROBOT ROCK

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

phoenix would probably win for me except "run, run, run" is weak and pushes consolation prizes off the list :(

# "Too Young" (22 May 2000)
# "If I Ever Feel Better" (22 January 2001)
# "Everything Is Everything" (EU release: 22 March 2004, UK release: 12 July 2004)
# "Run Run Run" (19 April 2004)
# "Long Distance Call" (8 May 2006)

bnw, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

if only they'd released 'you can't blame it on anybody'

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

was gonna do Daft Punk but 'robot rock' sucks really

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah that Daft Punk one is really let down by Robot Rock. If only they'd released one more single off Discovery.

Matt DC, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

"All These Things I've Done" is like the Killers' 6th or 7th best single.

haha yeah i was scrolling down that list looking for my chem but then i remembered that you hate black parade

SO many people listing things that weren't even singles and in the wrong order and listing 8 for the sake of it when there's a totally obvious dip in quality... ughhhhhhh

altho a couple of those may have been canada only

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i don't wanna get all thread police but the point of the thread is to find a good stretch with not even one slip up (this basically rules out post-2000 jay for me)

also keep it to 5

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

you 38 and you still listing things that weren't even singles and in the wrong order and listing 8 for the sake of it when there's a totally obvious dip in quality UGHHHH

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

yeah secret heart sinks her imo. mystikal is another close one.

fandango - show us how its done or gtfo

bnw, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

here is a thread where "stats or gtfo" actually applies and is not condescending

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

J0rdan you have to allow for dissensus

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

lifestyles of the rich & the famous surely gets swapped in for one of those GC songs?

deeznuts, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

I would vote Outkast, Timberlake, and Basement Jaxx of those.

"Tongue Ring" is terrible, if that was out and "Stay Fly" was in, we could talk.

Destiny's Child falls off with "Survivor"

Hubie Brown, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

"Beer for My Horses" (feat. Willie Nelson)
"I Love This Bar"
"American Soldier"
"Whiskey Girl"
"Stays in Mexico"

Euler, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

survivor is passable but i don't like it, if that makes sense

blueski, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i dont care all that much this is still a good thread just cuz it's cool to see it all laid out at the very least

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

xp to blueski

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah jordan good friday timewaster thread, for real

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

a good stretch with not even one slip up (this basically rules out post-2000 jay for me)
?????????

"Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)" (featuring Beanie Sigel & Amil) 65 17 9 —
"Anything" 55 19 9 18
"Big Pimpin'" (featuring UGK) 3 6 9 29
"Hey Papi" (featuring Memphis Bleek & Amil) 76 16 12 — Nutty Professor II soundtrack

and what, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

"anything"/"hey papi" are cool but luda/big tymers/kast/juve/missy/kanye etc have better stretches than that

J0rdan S., Friday, 18 July 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

"Do It Again" and "Anything" are OK songs but I'd definitely consider them slip ups in terms of single choices/career moves (Jay solo track as bonus track on Beanie record, WTF)

some dude, Friday, 18 July 2008 17:39 (seventeen years ago)

the streets would work very well had dry your eyes come before fit but you know it.

"God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" was a single between "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound." But "Clocks" through "Talk" would be decent. I did a Coldplay one upthread that's "In My Place" through "Speed of Sound," and that's basically because I hate "In My Place" less than I hate "Fix You."

jaymc, Friday, 18 July 2008 22:25 (seventeen years ago)

Sure about that? It didn't reach UK #40 according to everyhit.com, which would be a bit strange with a band as huge as Coldplay.

I love "Fix You", plus I consider their first and third albums their best. Had "Rush Of Blood To The Head" never been released, then "Yellow" through "Talk" would have been an absolutely flawless run.

God Put a Smile upon Your Face" is the fourth single from Coldplay's 2002 album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Regional singles were released for Canada, Europe, Australia, and an enhanced version for Taiwan. Promo singles were released for UK and U.S.. Since only promo copies were released, the single was only able to chart at #100 in the UK.

I agree with the earliest posters:

Outkast
Luda
Trick Daddy
3-6 in the mid-90s
Jay-Z had a run of like 3 separate 5-ers
Sean de Paul... where's that guy been? my high school and college life was greatly improved by hearing him at parties. I think America's healf-hearted flirtation with hearing dancehall on the charts began and ended with him. On another note: remember when BET actually played Beenie Man?

Thank You for the Venom

"Bigger, Stronger" (Blue Room EP)
"Shiver"

The real best LCD Soundsystem singles run:
"Losing My Edge"/"Beat Connection"
"Give It Up"/"Tired"

"Movement"/"Yr City's a Sucker"
"Daft Punk Is Playing at My House"

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 20 July 2008 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

not to endorse the Snrub candidate but

the real LCD deal:

45:33 (10/17/2006)
"all my friends" (5/28/2007)
a bunch of stuff (9/18/2007)
"someone great" (10/22/2007)
"freak out/starry eyes" (21/11/2007)

I'm down with calling 45:33 a single but #3 is a b-sides compilation album from #2 and #4, and #5 is another b-side from #2

Damnit, Rihanna would be my choice if she didn't keep breaking up her streaks with interim so-so stuff.

"Pon de Replay" / "If It's Lovin' that You Want" / "SOS" / "Unfaithful" are all excellent, but the streak is ruined by the ho-hum "We Ride."

Similarly, the kidn of blase "Hate That I Love You" breaks up "Umbrella" / "Shut Up and Drive" / "Don't Stop the Music" on the one side and "Take a Bow" / "Disturbia" / "Rehab" on the other.

Still, probably my overall singles artist of the decade.

sw00ds, Monday, 28 September 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)
