i loved 'become what you are' and it remains my fave juliana album. although 'total system failure' has given it competition. 'only everything' had some good songs, but it seemed to be the beginning of a long period of successive identity crises for the woman. i felt so bad for her, trying to find her voice, niche, whatever, and putting out fairly dull records (please do not disturb, bed) i was pleasantly surprised with the double release. as i said, juliana's pony i think is lots of fun and exactly the kind of record she should be making. beautiful creature seemed to continue along the adult contempo path she'd been on for a few years, although i'd say it was stronger than the previous two records.
i have not heard the blake babies reunion record, ive heard its terrible, but i'd still like to check it out.
SEARCH: all versions of 'nirvana', 'put it away' (my sister cd single), 'feed me', 'i got no idols' (and the piano version on 'for the birds' 7"), 'houseboy' and the guitar solo in 'hotels'
DESTROY: well, there are are many but i wont go into that because i lurve her...

funnily enough Amazon reports about 5 albums since then ! where on earth did they come from ? 'bed' is meant to be a classic, a la 'become...' but i see there's also one called 'juliana's pony' which was written in 1 week, and one called 'beautiful creature' which indeed she is/was. oddly she popped up as a waiflike singer-with- accoustic-guitar on My So-Called Life a good half decade back now.
anyone heard 'bed' then ? the follow-up to 'become' was pitiful if memory serves, so yeah destroy that.

She is quite tasty but also talented.

Just played Hey Babe after maybe 8 years. And, after some heavy duty brain-adjustment during the first song to *that* indie- guitar sound, I was surprised to learn it's still very good. Lovely melodies, clever lyrics. Time to hit the second hand cd-shops.

The good stuff of Beautiful Creature is SO GOOD. search songs 1-3, 6, and 11. esp.#11,'Hotels'. I always liked Only Everything too, plus the first too.
The Blake Babies reunion was maybe 1/3 super, search 1, 4, 5, and 10.

Ah mems. Newcastlte Riverside club. She was too loud (well, the band were, she was way too quiet herself). The last one I got was the 'hairy' one. One of my first purchases from CDNow back in the day. Dawn put her hand in the car glovebox, brushed against the CD and pulled her hand out very quick. "Is that meant to be....?" she asked. "Yeah, Probably" said I.

I saw this on her website. Anyone seen these so-called perverted posts?
"Someone purporting to be ‘Juliana Hatfield’ is disseminating disturbing email messages, postings, and e-cards throughout the Internet. "Please ignore any and all unsolicited anti-Semitic, racist/fascist, or sexually perverted email or e-cards sent by ‘Juliana Hatfield.’ It is not coming from me. "This has, sadly, been going on for quite some time. I thought that if I ignored the problem, or at least didn’t acknowledge it publicly, the perpetrator would eventually get this sickness out of his/her system and move on to happier, healthier, more productive pursuits. I was wrong. "And now I feel I must issue this disclaimer, for the benefit of any of you who may yet be targeted: Please don’t open any unsolicited mail from ‘Juliana Hatfield’ if you don’t know me. Please don’t even look at this stuff. It’s ugly and kind of heartbreaking."

I decided that she has a hot face but the jaw/bone structure is too big or something. Either way she used to pretty hot in some of her videos and I'm looking forward to listening to her latest two offerings: Made In China and How To Walk Away (will be released August 19th).
She rocks.
― CaptainLorax, Sunday, 1 June 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)
I could add her to my fave guitarists thread. She had a way with the open string chords. I dug that Strohm guy from Blake Babies too for similar reasons.
Saw them (BB) open for Buffalo Tom years ago now. Julianna Hatfiled was a tiny bit easier on the eye than Bill Janovitz

Pinefox - not sure of any particular chords but if in standard tuning alot of her stuff sounds like loads of suspended and add nine stuff? Plenty of open strings - limited barre chords - apart from that Total System Failure.
Maybe alt tunings?
Possibly why I never made it. Yes, I play guitar but too lazy for theory and all that

I actually think 'Exile' is one of her best, although I completely understand the dismay at the (over)production. I still listen to it quite often - 'Tourist', 'Sunshine' and 'Jamie' are faves - and have listened to it many more times than 'Made In China'...
― Investment bankers are falling from the sky! (SeekAltRoute), Thursday, 18 September 2008 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Always liked her, but just now wallowing in nostalgia and connecting with my inner '90s indie rocker by listening to the Blake Babies' Sunburn and then Hey Babe, Become What You Are, and Only Everything. What a great run that is. If she had come up in the '60s she would've been a famous Brill Building hitmaker.
