The MBV remasters got as far as press promos getting sent out over two years ago. Two of the more baroque stories that have been mentioned to me are that the discs to Loveless and the remastered Loveless were identical - a genuine production error - and that Shields' head melted while trying to oversee the colour correction on the exact shade of puce for the cover.

Which, admittedly, isn't in the same league as trying to make terrapins 'race' on a Skalectrix track as a means of album finishing avoidance.

The Skull Defekts with Daniel Higgs 'Peer Amid' on Thrill Jockey. This album is just fucking awesome. A bit Krauty and psych-devotional with more fluid overtones of Loop, Fugazi, Rapeman, Circle... Got it on repeat.

I'm still repping for the Console album. Actually, I need to send Luke some words about it!

no i agree. 2010 and 2009 were really slow going. they had their moments, but 2011 has offered up a lot of great stuff already, namely mind spiders, pj harvey, tim hecker.

i'm hoping i retroactively discover cool & worthwhile 2010 stuff throughout this year, that's what happened last year, a lot of my favourite 09 albums i discovered last year. 2009 is so rich to me now

Yeah, Soft Moon is a 2010 release. Been giving the PJ Harvey some time over the last week and I'm not geting the feeling that it is one of the year's best so far. Some tracks are fantastic, but too many misses imho.

i'm not good at ranking "favorite" albums, but i'd say my #1 of the year (so far) is six organs of admittance—really great album, subtle, beautiful, fantastic expressive acoustic guitar work and of course a massive 12-minute saz drone—wrote about it here

Me too. I wasn't sure he'd ever bring back the Lifeguards project, but I'm glad he did, its really good. Space City Kicks isn't bad either, but it feels more like Pollard coasting than the Lifeguards does.

Just bought Cut Copy's Zonoscope on the p4k review and album art alone. Why does this suck?

Deerhoof vs Evil;
also the Alphabet Saints' cd-to-be-released (streamed already on soundcoud)

The Cut Copy doesn't suck, but it certainly doesn't match the highs of the previous two - thats for sure.

I just CANNOT get into that new Deerhoof, which is weird because I've really loved the last three (haven't dug in much beyond that). I keep hoping something will click, but I'm just not able to wrap my head around it. I'm willing to admit that the problem lies more with me than the band (because its not like the album is some huge departure or left-turn) most likely, but its still kind of a bummer for me.

"Suck" was a little harsh, but it's just not doing all too much I haven't seen w/ Wild Nothing/Dum Dum Girls/all these retro outfits. I guess I'm just disssapointed in how much it sounds like other things.

I'm really coming around to the Junior Boys album.

I find it hard to get all the way to the end of it tbh. That type of intensity gets a bit too much. just not for me i guess. love "dying on the inside" though, thats a mighty tune

I guess I can understand that criticism, there isn't a whole lot of variety in terms of tone throughout the album. But I just can't get over how great almost all of the songs are.

xpost theyre an odd mix, the music is quite accessible, like a more HC influenced Foo Fighters, but then youve got the vocalist going bleurrrgh all over the place. i dont know if it quite works.

the only problem i have with Fucked Up, and its quite a big problem, is the vocals.

Yes! I am getting more and more accustomed to Fucked Up vocals, but the first time I heard them I was not turned on. Like take "Running On Nothing." Great intro, and then the vocals come in and... eh.

yes! i normally possess some prejudice against bands that wear their influences on their sleeve but i've honestly put in about 12hrs into this album, i bet. i'd compare it to "drive" (as in the movie) - vapid, shallow, cliche... but done with so much style that you don't care much anyway.

Agreed...on the one hand it's exactly what you'd expect from the collab - loopy vocals and background electronics - but the sounds are so beautiful and immersive it's hard to complain.

Outside this top 20, I sympathize with those of you who listed Vijay Iyer, DJ Quik, Beyonce, R Kelly, and R Saadiq.
