I'll freely admit the Gutter Twins album isn't anywhere near metal, but I wanted to give it a great vote regardless. I'm a huge fan of most everything Dulli puts out and think Lanegan's a terrific vocalist, so it was a predictably great album for me this year.
I'm also not really a "metal guy," so I tend to go for the psych/doom/drone offerings and the Melvins-y stuff.

― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 00:27 (sixteen years ago)
Dunno how many ballots you have, total, but I'd be happy to do voter- and album-similarity analysis for potential statistical amusement.
― glenn mcdonald, Monday, 12 January 2009 02:09 (sixteen years ago)
sure man. You want what I have emailed to you now or when voting closes?
Thanks!
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)
And anyone want to do some blurbs on the albums?
Glenn, what actually are you going to do with it anyway?
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 02:20 (sixteen years ago)
Send 'em when you have 'em all. I'll do the same thing I do to Pazz & Jop every year: calculate album-similarity according to voter-overlap, and voter-similarity according to album-overlap. It's not nearly as interesting with a small sample size as it is with 800 voters, but with a genre focus and constrained voting this poll might yield slightly better results than its size would normally lead to. Plus it's easy for me to do, so I might as well. Oh, and a side-effect of the analysis is good proofreading, so send 'em to me before you post the results and it'll act as a double-check for you.
― glenn mcdonald, Monday, 12 January 2009 02:26 (sixteen years ago)
Well that last bit sounds especially great!
If you can get another 5-10 voters voting then it could make quite a difference to the poll.I really want it to be a success, so thanks for this!
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 02:31 (sixteen years ago)
a few voters in since, thanks!
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)
I've been listening to random things on this list and I have to say some of it is godawful. On the other hand some has been amazing. I've always loved the fact that people's tastes can be so different. Even in a supposedly one dimensional genre like metal. For the record I'm not a huge metal fan but it makes up a big part of my listening pleasure.

Even in a supposedly one dimensional genre like metal.
But metal isn't even remotely one dimensional. Why do people say it is?
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 January 2009 16:35 (sixteen years ago)
I love how xhuxk's list has absolutely not one bit of overlap with mine.
Go figure?
― ilxor, Monday, 12 January 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, Chuck is just more metal than you.

another tip:
if you use Firefox there are search bar plug ins for metal-archives / Encyclopaedia Metallum: http://www.metal-archives.com/
plug inshttp://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=Encyclopaedia+Metallum+&skipcache=yes
i use this one:Encyclopaedia Metallum (google) en-WW (google.com) by pilgrimEx
useful for checking for information relating to artists: record labels, release dates, band websites, artist myspace links
