Why Fear of Polls?
http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr34/desertrat/fear.jpg

I'm afraid I thought that was funny at the time. That really is a disease. People who can't go onto forums where there are polls because they become nauseous...

DB, from the liner notes from the 2006 reissue ;)

I ZIMBRA

― pussy spread like the rainbow (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

This is hard. I haven't got it figured out yet.

― willem, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:02 (seventeen years ago)

Was listening to this today and wow I never clicked with "Drugs" like that before! Great synths on that one. Textural guitars on "Mind" pretty mindblowing too..

― willem, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:04 (seventeen years ago)

A6 A++++++++

― King Boiled Potato (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:05 (seventeen years ago)

Specifically the last 30 seconds or so.

― King Boiled Potato (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

"Memories Can't Wait" is the most consistently enjoyable, but I voted "Cities" because there are drunken occasions where I enjoy it more than just about anything else (ON EARTH).

― I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, "Memories Can't Wait". Fucking LOVE the Living Colour version and the original is similarly excellent.

― Euler, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

A6 FTW

― WmC, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

drugs - a great ending track

― nonightsweats, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

i was about to do this poll but did Neutral Milk Hotel instead. i would have never figured this was a Talking Heads poll until i clicked on this poll, so i'm glad i didn't put this one up today as there would have been two...voting for "Drugs."

― Bee OK, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

nother vote for drukqs, with memories a close not-second

― welcome little swetty (contenderizer), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 04:30 (seventeen years ago)

xpost to Bee OK: maybe I should ask for a mod to include "Talking Heads 3rd album" or something?

Listened to it on my commute this morning and only now did it occur to me that in "Heaven" ("There is a party/Everyone is there") Byrne is mumbling the last "there" in a way that he could be singing "dead" as well. D'oh.

― willem, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 08:00 (seventeen years ago)

Not my favourite Talking Heads, but not without its highlights. Voted for "Air" because it's really pretty, but could have voted for "I Zimbra" having once heard Luke Slater play it mixed into his set. "Animals" is good too but the live version on "The Name Of This Band" is better. "Cities" is also an amazing track!

― the next grozart, Wednesday, 25 February 2009 08:56 (seventeen years ago)

i would because this thread should have a bit more chatter...

xpost

― Bee OK, Thursday, 26 February 2009 07:06 (seventeen years ago)

Cities. The fade in and fade out gives me creepy sense that it's just an extract and goes on forever and that the band are still in a studio somewhere playing it, with Byrne working his way through more cities he might live in ('Wells! A small city..' etc).

― woofwoofwoof, Thursday, 26 February 2009 09:51 (seventeen years ago)

ELECTRIC GUITAR

― Snowballing, Thursday, 26 February 2009 09:52 (seventeen years ago)

I don't like "Heaven" because it reminds me of Queen's "It's a Kind Of Magic"

― the next grozart, Thursday, 26 February 2009 10:13 (seventeen years ago)

they say animals don't worry

they're livin on nuts and berries

they say animals don't worry

― s1ocki kong country (cankles), Thursday, 26 February 2009 10:22 (seventeen years ago)

Drugs.

This is the one and only TH album I can say I truly love.

― Special topics: Disco, The Common Market (grimly fiendish), Thursday, 26 February 2009 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

Cities. Surprised no shouts for Life During Wartime though. Drugs is also amazing. This is not my favourite Heads albums but they are one of the greatest bands ever, so it's still superb.

― Chris in Belfast, Thursday, 26 February 2009 10:59 (seventeen years ago)

This is hard. I haven't got it figured out yet.

^^^^ This. "Cities" and "Animals" are the funniest.

― Queueing For Latchstrings (Tom D.), Thursday, 26 February 2009 11:03 (seventeen years ago)

"Drugs". I LOVE "Drugs"

(And the quotation marks are very important not to misinterpret this quote ;) )

― Geir Hongro, Thursday, 26 February 2009 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

Voted for Drukqs too, but "Cities" on another day.

― Jeff W, Thursday, 26 February 2009 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

Aw no way! I totally overlooked Life During Wartime! I'd have voted that one! Actually I take it back, this album rulezz!

― the next grozart, Thursday, 26 February 2009 12:49 (seventeen years ago)

CAN'T SEEM TO MAKE UP MY MIND

― The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 26 February 2009 12:54 (seventeen years ago)

Can't even begin to express how huge this record was for me growing up.

Life During Wartime.

― kornrulez6969, Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

"Paper" is such an underrated jam

― Carles Jr. (some dude), Thursday, 26 February 2009 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

Can't even begin to express how huge this record was for me growing up.

ditto.

another Memories fan here, Heaven a close second.

― sleeve, Thursday, 26 February 2009 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Memories" vs "Heaven" for me. but if this had been 5 or 6 years ago it probably would have been "I Zimbra"...my TH tastes have changed so much.

― autogoblin (surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally), Thursday, 26 February 2009 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

And all I see are little dots Dots DOTS DOTS

― Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 26 February 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

possibly mind

― ACTION BABY (special guest stars mark bronson), Thursday, 26 February 2009 18:45 (seventeen years ago)

My second favorite Talking Heads LP, after Remain In Light. "Life During Wartime" will take this,
but I voted for "I Zimbra".

― Dan S, Thursday, 26 February 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

"Life During Wartime" will take this

I'd be surprised.

― WmC, Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Life During Wartime" will take this

Hold on to that paper.

― The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:05 (seventeen years ago)

"Heaven" needed another vote.

― always on time, possibly goth (Matt P), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

this album is eno's crrraziest production imo

― always on time, possibly goth (Matt P), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:13 (seventeen years ago)

The mix reminds me of another classic released that year in which Eno was involved: Lodger -- dry, hard, crunchy.

― The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

it never dawned on me that those two were from the same year, even though they both sound very of a piece! i love both to death for similar reasons, seems like an eno-produced record never really went there again.

― always on time, possibly goth (Matt P), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:22 (seventeen years ago)

life during wartime is better on the name of this band is. drugs is better nowhere else

― That's not just me saying that, that's the Pentagon. (contenderizer), Thursday, 26 February 2009 23:25 (seventeen years ago)

seems like an eno-produced record never really went there again

helluva drug, but you can't do it forever.

― Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Friday, 27 February 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

It's very easy to imagine "Red Sails" or "Repetition" on Fear of Music.

― The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 27 February 2009 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry to go with the obvious, but Life During Wartime.

― iago g., Friday, 27 February 2009 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Also went with the obvious, with "I Zimbra" and "Paper" close behind.

Way back when I bought this on vinyl, I somehow mixed up Side 1 and Side 2 and listened to it that way for years. So for me it has always begun with "Air" and ended with "Memories Can't Wait"; now that I've got the CD it's a much different ride that never feels quite right.

― Hideous Lump, Friday, 27 February 2009 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I'm getting used to it now

― Damn that DJ made my sandwich (los blue jeans), Friday, 27 February 2009 03:16 (seventeen years ago)

It's always worth pointing to the 1980 show they shot in Rome. Insanely good.

Drugs
Cities
I Zimbra
Life During Wartime

― that's not my post, Friday, 27 February 2009 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

I had to dig out "Cities" yesterday because of this thread. Byrne's vocal is brilliant, halfway between beautiful and infuriated.

― the next grozart, Friday, 27 February 2009 09:06 (seventeen years ago)

Simply impossible to pick between "Mind" and "Heaven". What a fucking album.

― Freedom, Friday, 27 February 2009 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

"Paper" is the perfectess on an album of perfect songs.

― slagterm, Friday, 27 February 2009 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

I think that 1980 show is better than anything they ever recorded. esp the born under punches.

― iatee, Friday, 27 February 2009 23:55 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

― System, Saturday, 28 February 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

cities!!! the propulsive scratchy rhythm guitar and that PNO note-PING!, PING!, PING!, PING!, then coordinated with the (whammied?) guitar, and finally the interlude of frenzied treated vocals as it heads to the fadeout. god i love that song.

― iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:00 (seventeen years ago)

So hard -- it's between "Cities" and "Memories Can't Wait" for me, with "I Zimbra" close behind and "Heaven" another length back. I didn't have this album growing up, but had "Cities" on a mix tape, I think before I owned any TH album, and it was like a report from another world. A little surprised and very happy to see it get so much love here. Comes down to this -- "Cities" for sustained excellence start to finish, but the last minute of "Memories Can't Wait" is in the running for the best minute of music ever laid down by the band. "Memories" is Koufax, "Cities" is Clemens. Can't decide, can't decide.... but since I kind of hate Roger Clemens I'm voting "Memories."

― Guayaquil (eephus!), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:27 (seventeen years ago)

On the More Songs... thread, I voiced my preference for earlier, stripped down Talking Heads over the ensemble touring unit of the early 80s. I have to repeat that here. That clip of "Cities" from Rome, posted above, should be incendiary but god THOSE FUCKING BONGOS/CONGAS. If there's anything that drives me nuts, it's superfluous bongos and congas.

― I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Saturday, 28 February 2009 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

Posting the youtube, which unfortunately captures a too slow performance of "Cities" from 1979, to remind myself that there was a time when there didn't have to be auxiliary percussion on every TH song performed live.

― I shall always respect my elders (Z S), Saturday, 28 February 2009 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

That clip of the original 4-piece unit is solid. But the 1980 9-piece ensemble puts their marker down in the mythical race for greatest live band EVER. Bongos and all.

― that's not my post, Saturday, 28 February 2009 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

aaaaand i just watched that 1980 rome joint for the first time holy fuck. holy fuck.

― iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Saturday, 28 February 2009 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

"Drugs," with "Mind" close behind. "Heaven" is the only track here that doesn't hit my sweet spot.

four years pass...

Shocking that "Paper" got one vote, that and "Cities" are my favourites on this album.

― Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 13:54 (thirteen years ago)

Cities, Animals, Air, Life During Wartime are so good they kind of eclipse the rest of the album for me. Always had a bit of trouble witht he more atonal stuff on this record. And I can't stand Heaven because it just reminds me of It's A Kind of Magic. Maybe I'll come round to it.

― Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

"Memories Can't Wait" may be my favorite song of theirs; can't think of any other Heads song that is as simultaneously slow, heavy, and disorienting.

― Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:34 (thirteen years ago)

On the LP the diamonds on the cover are raised just like a real floor

― More Than a Century With the Polaris Emblem (calstars), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 15:48 (thirteen years ago)

"I Zimbra" forever

This album is just a bunch of songs and then "Drugs"

― flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 16:47 (thirteen years ago)

Just a bunch of great songs and then one more great song.

― Home Despot (WilliamC), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 16:48 (thirteen years ago)

my least favourite of the classic 3 album run (or 4 if you count the debut) but still has some incredible stuff on it. Animals feels like one of those 'derivative of nothing' songs to my ears but i'm sure ILM folk can tell me where i'm wrong about that.

― piscesx, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 17:03 (thirteen years ago)

classic 3 album run = Fear, Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues

― but olives are valuable too (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

Have been listening to TH 77 this week for the first time in many years and I think it's one of my ideal guitar records. I could listen to those two guitars chattering at each other forever. Fear of Music pulls off guitar heaven a few times too-- 'Paper' and 'Mind' are among my favorite 2-guitar thingies of the era.

― folsom country prism (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

When Meat Puppets Up on the Sun was new, some sagacious reviewer mentioned TH 77 as a comparison for its sound and that was really OTM.

― folsom country prism (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 17:17 (thirteen years ago)

I've never seen that Sessions at W. 54th show! That's the same lineup/outfits as when I saw him at Bumbershoot. Big fun.

― New Authentic Everybootsy Collins (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

it's a 4-album run and that's if you leave out speaking in tongues.

― the white queen and her caustic judgments (difficult listening hour), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

that flames onesie is unbelievable.

― the white queen and her caustic judgments (difficult listening hour), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

Five album run, for my ears. . . Plus 'Bush of Ghosts' and 'Tom Tom Club' : )

― Soundslike, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:36 (thirteen years ago)

5-album run for me: 2nd, 3rd, 4th + Bush of Ghosts + Catherine Wheel

― Home Despot (WilliamC), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

Bush of Ghosts worst in the sequence tho

― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:48 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think Byrne made a bad record until True Stories, which was at least offset by a decent/funny film

― Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 18:49 (thirteen years ago)

Bush of Ghosts worst in the sequence tho

― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, June 11, 2013 1:48 PM (2 minutes ago)

Not by a huge margin, but yeah I pretty much agree.

BTW Alfred, I just noticed yesterday that I had sent you a FB friends request...it must have been a couple of years ago, because I completely forgot about it!

Didn't work then. I wonder if friend requests have an expiration date?

― Home Despot (WilliamC), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:06 (thirteen years ago)

he also did "Memories Can't Wait" on Sessions (i think a dif episode? he hosted one season and performed multiple times iirc), which got me really hyped because i had just started getting into TH at the time and it was one of my favorite deep cuts

― treeship journey to stars hollow (some dude), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

i really had no idea anybody thought "Drugs" was one of the best songs on this record

― treeship journey to stars hollow (some dude), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 19:35 (thirteen years ago)

Most days I love this record forever, but on Tuesdays I think "I Zimbra" is jazz hands and much of the rest of the record boasts David's weakest singing and lyrics. "Drugs" tho is unspeakably good and is one of those songs that will always stop me in my tracks to listen, a perfect song

― flamboyant goon tie included, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

it's obviously the classic 4 album run - 77 through RIL, with More Songs being the best. Speaking in Tongues a slight drop in quality.

― Z S, Tuesday, 11 June 2013 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

animals is fun to vamp along to

― Green_Partyhat for iFunny :) (Matt P), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 22:12 (thirteen years ago)

yeah songwriting-wise, FOM probably better deserves the title "more songs about buildings and food" given how many of the songs are just 'here is a noun that i will riff on blankly for the next 3 minutes.'

― treeship journey to stars hollow (some dude), Tuesday, 11 June 2013 22:15 (thirteen years ago)

except they aren't blank riffs they're profound treatises that you can make paranoid clown faces to

5 album run, with "The Name of this band..." being their peak imo

― Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Wednesday, 12 June 2013 00:36 (thirteen years ago)

i don't really think that should really count as part of their run. it'd be one thing if the songs were drastically different than their album counterparts, but they're pretty faithful. i agree that it's an awesome album (one of my favs as well).

― Z S, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

they definitely have one of the best 2-album runs of live albums

― some dude, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 01:20 (thirteen years ago)

not unless you discount Neil Young and his quasi live albums.

― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 12 June 2013 01:22 (thirteen years ago)

i like the song "heaven" a lot, how it contrasts with the twitchy nervousness of the rest of this album. i also like how the album it sounds simple, almost stripped down, compared to their later masterpiece "remain in light" which is the only other talking heads album i've spent a lot of time with. i should listen to these guys more, but byrne irritates me after a while even though i am a great admirer of his schtick, which i think was very original

OK, that is way too fucking much.

I was hoping there'd be a limited edition package cut from a repurposed manhole cover.

Unpopular ILM opinion: do people really need endless 87,000 discs of live performances from a beloved act? I don't think I own more than five or ten.

― boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 September 2026 22:25 (two weeks ago)

Those Neil Young and Dylan threads drive me crazy.

― boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 September 2026 22:25 (two weeks ago)

alfred we will have to agree to disagree here. i do really need endless 87,000 discs of live performances from a beloved act.

this FoM deluxe actually seems kind of slim in regards to studio stuff — is all of that stuff tacked on to disc one from previous reissues?

the berklee show is well traveled, might've been the first Talking Heads boot I acquired way back. (But it's great.)

Fear Of Music was and remains my favorite record from one of my favorite bands ever. 3 cds/6 lps doesn't seem like too much to me

― Dan S, Thursday, 1 October 2026 00:33 (two weeks ago)

I don't think I own multi-disc live sets by any of my favorites, I realized.

― boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 October 2026 01:08 (two weeks ago)

some of us are suckers for live stuff. And you can’t deny Talking Heads were a seminal live band

The Name of This Band...case in point.

On the LP the diamonds on the cover are raised just like a real floor

I was hoping there'd be a limited edition package cut from a repurposed manhole cover.

One of Jerry Harrison's tasks when they were preparing this album was to see how practical it was to have the cover manufactured out of corrugated rubber (not very practical).

― Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 1 October 2026 02:25 (two weeks ago)

the embossed raised treads metal flooring cover on the original Fear Of Music was awesome. I wish I still had that record

one one hand, the sentiment resonates for me; I reach a saturation point; it does depend on the act. if you listen to live bebop, you can hear the growth of a music in real time, it's electrifying; hard to really get enough. same if you're into the Dead, the music grows in the live arena, that is where it lives. this looks like a remaster and two live shows three months apart...with nearly identical setlists...still I'm glad that "animals" gets a moment in sun even if I have very strong disagreement's with the song's overall estimation of animals

― J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Thursday, 1 October 2026 02:44 (two weeks ago)

"Animals" is where the "paranoia over everything" conceit becomes schtick to me. It's not a bad song but we've got the idea by the middle of side 2.

― Halfway there but for you, Thursday, 1 October 2026 02:50 (two weeks ago)

prior to the expanded-band era there wasnt really very much variety in their live shows - they recreated the records pretty faithfully and didnt seem to mix up the setlist very much. what a weird choice to have those two shows on the same set.

― waste of compute (One Eye Open), Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:00 (two weeks ago)

I like the idea that they remastered the songs from the original album, and the two live sets were probably good ones, so probably a bonus. I don't see why that would that be a weird choice

― Dan S, Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:05 (two weeks ago)

Do I own too many Acid Mothers Temple albums?

(yes, I want double digit quantities of live shows from any/all bands I love)

― Serfin' USA (sleeve), Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:10 (two weeks ago)

side note, it's interesting to me that the poll threads now eclipse the older dedicated-album threads for these reissue announcements

in praise of ... the talking heads, fear of music

― Serfin' USA (sleeve), Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:12 (two weeks ago)

xp I own way too many Acid Mothers Temple LPs for sure. We should compare notes sleeve, I can send you any you don't already have

― Dan S, Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:14 (two weeks ago)

lol I'm good with La Novia and In C (CD version with the In D bonus track) and a few others, but thank you

― Serfin' USA (sleeve), Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:17 (two weeks ago)

La Novia is great! I have the Eclipse LP of In C/In E, both fantastic

― Dan S, Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:20 (two weeks ago)

very off topic, sorry

― Dan S, Thursday, 1 October 2026 03:22 (two weeks ago)

this looks like a remaster and two live shows three months apart...

it looks like a remaster of the album, more bonus tracks than the previous reissue TWENTY YEARS AGO (some on a physical release for the first time?), a hardcover book with new notes by the band and unpublished photos, a 5.1 remix of the album, an Atmos remix of the album, hi-res stereo version of the remaster, the only available live TV performance footage, and audio of one live show from the sixth date of the tour and one live show from the final date of the tour? absolute contemptible laziness for not somehow sourcing a usable tape from one of the previous five, or time-traveling back to force the band to record an entire disc's worth of unreleased tracks or alternate takes.

good job everyone

― Cod:Shellfish (emsworth), Thursday, 1 October 2026 08:53 (two weeks ago)

honestly i'm pretty psyched to hear a good new remaster of this, maybe even moreso than Remain in Light whenever they get around to that one. i remember at one point having a download of some kind of early mixes or worktapes or something, and there was just so much going on in all the songs, so many effects and overdub parts and crazy things happening

― waste of compute (One Eye Open), Thursday, 1 October 2026 14:42 (two weeks ago)

This album had my favorite mix of the classic run: like Lodger, also released the same year, it sounds like dead dry crickets under the mix board.

― boners for bombs (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 October 2026 14:46 (two weeks ago)

they recreated the records pretty faithfully and didnt seem to mix up the setlist very much

this is true except that Byrne is a pretty fascinating vocalist at this point — totally exciting/weird deliveries that change a lot depending on the night.

Per Jason Jones who's producing these for Rhino, the plan is to release one a year for each studio album. So expect all eight albums to get deluxe sets like these.

This basically explains why I'm going bananas for the upcoming Ween 14-disc live box and could care less about any of the Talking Heads reissues.

Some comments from reissue producer/A&R guy/etc. Jason Jones:

The 2LP of the original album plus etching is also in the LP box. I would not want to repeat any of the live material from the larger live set on Side D for this reason. Additional studio material was proposed, but ultimately the band did not approve it. The reality is that this was the first full batch of fresh material that the band wrote and as such, there was not much in the way of outtakes. There was enough proposed to fill Side D (and necessitate an additional CD with only the outtake/rare material), but again, that was not approved.

Concerning the rough mixes from the cassette that's been in circulation for years: the band did not approve any of those either (and I agree with them on that decision).

Re: the "lack" of content on the Blu-ray:

It's all we could license properly. We tried to get the South Bank Show (this time at the proper speed) and some additional live footage, but we were unable.

― birdistheword, Friday, 2 October 2026 21:18 (two weeks ago)

Also Jones: The true highlight of the set is disc 3 (Live at Capitol Theatre); it's a phenomenal performance. Berklee is also great, but Capitol Theatre shows their power as a live act (which is crazy since it's just the four of them tackling these complex arrangements from FoM).

Also, a bit of sneaky background on the sequencing of the studio bonus material at the end of Disc 1: I wanted the alternate version of Drugs and the 12" Eno Mix of I Zimbra to be at the end of the disc in order to provide the clear pathway towards the eventual Remain in Light SDE. Those two compositions are the blueprint and I've always wanted them to sit side by side.

Also confirms that the "I Zimbra" 12" version at the end of disc one is the promo-only remix done by Brian Eno back then.

― birdistheword, Saturday, 3 October 2026 21:12 (two weeks ago)

don't think I've ever heard that!

― Serfin' USA (sleeve), Saturday, 3 October 2026 21:15 (two weeks ago)

Do we know who's playing in the band (i.e was it the extended setup) for these live sets?...

― X-Prince Protégé (sonnyboy), Saturday, 3 October 2026 22:10 (two weeks ago)

these shows are just the quartet

that Eno I Zimbra mix is killer, some very early hip hop influences coming in.

― tylerw, Saturday, 3 October 2026 22:40 (two weeks ago)

Too bad they never tried to arrange I Zimbra for 4 people. Something like the Dixie Cups doing Iko Iko.
