She and Chris seeems like nice enough people who allways reply to emails, but I never had the chance of meeting them.
Cosey is not a dud she is a classic, TG invented Industrial music which has now moved into trance/techno.
I hope this has helped?
Thanks IAN.

anyway thx to Matmos for recommending heartbeat on emusic, I would've had no idea where to start otherwise. color me dumb for associating all throbbing gristle side/solo work with the annoying sound of orridge shouting incomprehensibly into a long delay

Chris and Cosey, CTI, Chris Carter solo, there's tons of great stuff in there. Just remember Chris was responsible for all the pretty arpeggiating synth stuff on the TG albums...Hot on the Heels of Love is essentially proto-Chris and Cosey.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)
i will never forget the day i found "techno primitiv" in a brooklyn stoop sale for $1, not their best album but still fantastic
chris and cosey rock!
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
Echoing the Chris/Cosey love, though their work is definitely the least I know out of all the non-TG TG work. Not entirely sure about the dawn of the nineties stuff but I seem to remember some good tracks.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)
almost all awesome.
There is a TG spinoff S/D thread but almost nothing about C&C.
Heartbeat: rough, raw, a little undeveloped, but more aggressive than almost anything else by them.
Trance: fully blown classic, lots of cornet, great sounding record with more atmosphere than tunes.
Songs Of Love And Lust: initial pop sounds surface, some great songs on here. The one I know least well of the early ones.
European Rendezvous: essential live document (as CTI) of tour with Glenn Wallis (Konstruktivits), truncated for release on Collectiv 2 CD.
Elemental 7: another great live CTI LP, more atmosphere and spaciness whereas Rendezvous has the tunes. Also truncated for release on Collectiv 2.
Collectiv 1: CD compilation of two great singles as CTI ("Hammer House" is my favorite C&C track), along with Carter's first solo LP which is just OK.
Techno Primitiv: The most pop yet, another great one.
Take Five/Exotica/Rise: Nettwerk-era slump, but still worthwhile.
Core: neato collaborative LP with Coil, Robert Wyatt, others.
then I lost track until the Union CD, a really good live disc from 2000 or so. Really really want to hear the Carter Tutti CDs, I suspect they will be among my favorite releases from the past few years.
Also, I saw them at the Metro in Chicago once and they blew SPK off the stage.
― sleeve, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
maybe I should have put that on ILM.
and I need a thesaurus.
I came across this site when searching for TG material. My opinion on Cosey is she influenced a lot of of Musicians and Artists "me for one" The style of clothing she wore in 1976 would come back in the early 80s with the Goth scene "you will see what I mean if you look at the inner sleeve of 2nd annual report"She and Chris seeems like nice enough people who allways reply to emails, but I never had the chance of meeting them.
― rio (r1o natsume), Friday, 27 February 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)
anyway. can't believe there isn't a chris & cosey thread on here. the more i think about it, the more i realise they were probably the best post-tg spinoff, at least during the 80s. first three albums are beyond classic, and what i've heard of the wax trax stuff sounds great. songs of love and lust bridges the gap between 70s german synth minimalism and 80s techno-pop better than anything else i've heard from that era, in fact i can't think of any synth-pop groups around that time that were really rocking arpeggiators outside of italo. but yeah, just perfect synth programming and sound design, and cosey's voice is amazing.
― rio (r1o natsume), Friday, 27 February 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

The Space Between is a classic, mondo beat is pretty good, actually, all the Rough Trade releases are classic.

depends how you're willing to define post-punk, but no, I don't think they're generally overlooked.
Andrew Weatherall included them on 9 O'clock Drop, a comp that was pretty influential in the more recent "post-punk" revival, and they generally rate very high in techno, electro and industrial circles.

there's something so joyous and playful about chris carter's production that wasn't really present in throbbing gristle ("AB/7A" and "walkabout" notwithstanding) and is only barely present in chris and cosey. even the darker more aggressive tracks have this kind of wide-eyed energy.

the plan is to release a 4 track 10" of tracks from the space between. if that sells enough to break even there might be a second volume. there will also (hopefully) be a 12" of moonlight from mondo beat with a remix on the other side and a 10" of tg's AB/7A with a remix on the other side.

if you fully open the youtube link, you get the info -
From the Optimo Music 12" - Chris Carter - The Spaces Between (OM 008), a 6 track EP of tracks from Chris Carter. 5 of the tracks originally appeared on "The Space Between" cassette, released on industrial Records in 1980 and were subsequently reissued on CD in 1991. This will be the first time they have appeared on vinyl. There is a bonus sixth track, "Climbing" that only previously appeared on the 1981 "Stabmental" tape compilation compiled by Geoff Rushton, later of Coil. All tracks were remastered by Chris Carter in 2009. Scheduled for release on Optimo Music late 2009 / early 2010.

I asked Chris Carter if he remembered what he used on this track. The following is what he had to say: "I'm a little fuzzy on specifics for individual tracks from this album as it was recorded over a four year period (1974 - 78) but as far as I can remember 'Interloop' was recorded on a Tascam 4 track - probably a A3340S. I think the synths used were a Roland SH-1 for the sequence and an Roland SH-5 for the synth lead line. A Roland System-100 104 Sequencer was driving the SH-1. I am pretty sure the delay effects were from a Roland RE501 and probably a couple of Boss pedals - a phaser and a chorus most likely - all Roland basically."

that's good news about vol 2! "maybe" and "poptone" are two of my favourites
is "climbing" the tune from that jhonn balance tape? look forward to hearing that. amazing work, man!

yes, it is. it's incredible (particularly following chris's fabulous remastering job).

from http://c-h-r-i-s-c-a-r-t-e-r.blogspot.com/2010/08/change-of-direction-some-remastering.html
Remastering:
I am about to start remastering our early Chris & Cosey catalogue for vinyl. This is quite an undertaking as I'm not only tweaking the audio - from the original master tapes - but I'm also reconstructing the cover artworks from what remaining negatives, print films and parts that still exist or aren't lost. Which to be honest there isn't that much of around anymore - which alone should make it an interesting project. All being well we are hoping to get these re-releases out before the years end...watch this space.
― vessels in distress (r1o natsume), Thursday, 2 September 2010 20:26 (fifteen years ago)
that's great news, I would buy a remastered version of Trance for sure.
― sleeve, Thursday, 2 September 2010 21:18 (fifteen years ago)
Picked up Spaces Between on a visit to London last week - the last copy in Sister Ray - I think they said they got 7 copies originally..
the vinyl sounds incredible - the bass is insane! Chris did an amazing job with the remastering..
Any chance of more spaces between coming any time Keith?
― Deluxe Merseybeat Wig (Jack Battery-Pack), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 16:45 (fifteen years ago)
it sounds incredible. such a great job all round
"climbing" isn't what i expected at all. the beat is completely insane, like proto-dubstep or something. really cool
― lao gan ma (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 28 September 2010 17:48 (fifteen years ago)
i wish i had been able to do a double to begin with but it just wasn't an option. there is a possibility if this does well (pre sale has been v. good) that there will be a second volume.

Still bummed I didn't get to see them, but they've been recording these new/live versions so there's something to look forward to:Chris Carter and Cosey Fanny Tutti will release Carter Tutti Plays Chris & Cosey on February 17th, 2015
― willem, Tuesday, 16 December 2014 16:50 (ten years ago)
I've been (skim) reading her autobiography/memoir, which I don't think is even out yet. It's fascinating up until when TG reform, then it's just a bunch of boring old rock musicians bitching and kvetching about boring old rock subjects like management, money, recording etc. Gen is the absolute villain of the book, a terrible man, terrible man - that's according, not only to Cosey, though she has most cause, but Chris, Sleazy and most people who crossed his path - if the book is to believed, that is.

So, is that them on the cover of the UFO album, "Force it" or wot?
― Mark G, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 12:09 (eight years ago)
have an irrational dislike of chris/cosey ever since they beefed with thighps <3
― an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 12:12 (eight years ago)
Hadn't heard about that, what was the beef about?

Answering my own question:
https://twitter.com/coseyfannitutti/status/607629459785674752
Although if what she said was true (and I have no reason to doubt her) surely it's Thighpaulsandra you should be disliking?
― heaven parker (anagram), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 12:42 (eight years ago)
in matters such as this i basically think 'ok, who was closer to the artist in question', and trust them
― an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 12:53 (eight years ago)
also thighpaulsandra is 10x the musician of any of the surviving hidden reverse crew
Was tickled by the fact that Cosey fancied Gen because he looked like the lead singer of Quintessence. Not that she fancied him that much, certainly not with the intensity induced by the pert buttocks of Chris Carter.
― Ongar Is An Energy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 13:12 (eight years ago)
And then there's Chris and Cosey's friendship with Frank Warren. You couldn't make it up.
― Ongar Is An Energy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 13:19 (eight years ago)
I think you'll find Chris and Cosey were members of TG, and as such had more of a right to TG archives than Thighpaulsandra ever did. Plus, has he denied selling stuff? If not, then it's a question of fact, not one of trust.
Plus, the idea that Thighpaulsandra is 10x Chris & Cosey as musicians is wtf.
― heaven parker (anagram), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 13:38 (eight years ago)
Trust the judgement, I mean
While they were ex-members, wasn't there a huge falling-out?
― an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 13:41 (eight years ago)
You mean because Gen was allowing all and sundry to put out TG product without the permission of the rest of the band, and from which they received no financial gain?
― Ongar Is An Energy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 13:44 (eight years ago)
I know what you meant but it's a stretch to say that Thighpaulsandra's judgement on what to do with TG archival material should be trusted merely because he was closer to Sleazy than C&C were at the time (if indeed that is the case)
xp
― heaven parker (anagram), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 14:01 (eight years ago)
Reading interviews with TPS I'd say it's very likely that he and Sleazy were close right up until his death, but there's also talk of unpaid debts that he's now evening-out. I don't know. It's all a sordid business when money and legacy gets involved. I do think it's possible to over-venerate the objects of artistic creation.
― an uptempo Pop/Hip Hop mentality (imago), Wednesday, 22 March 2017 14:07 (eight years ago)
I've got the book preordered but it's not out for a couple weeks here, I think.
Seeing C&C perform a few years back was a great experience, and I hope I get the experience to see them with Nik Void at some point. Probably something I should prioritize, if the opportunity arises.
I came to the realization after reading a few interviews that Chris & Cosey are nearly exactly my parents' ages, which is a bit of a weird perspective
― mh 😏, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 14:17 (eight years ago)
C & C never fell out with Sleazy and were in contact with him hours before he died - he'd emailed them to rant and rave about Gen's latest shenanigans.

Had the Coil tapes not been 'baked' and transferred (and thus not actually useable as media any more)? IRDK but that was my understanding. Maybe people were still upset.

Thanks! I'm still sad that there was no demand to see them play in the UK in this era and they only ever played North America or mainland Europe.
It felt like every second gig i went to back then there was some "shock / gore" footage being shown but i'm still a little surprised they were rocking the texas chainsaw massacre footage.
i'd love to know what was in CC's flightcase.
