the England guy that throws the balls (country matters), Monday, 8 June 2009 12:22 (sixteen years ago)

so what rap metal bands do you like tuomas?

I don't like any metal, but rap metal is the most tolerable, because sometimes it has decent rapping in it.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 June 2009 12:23 (sixteen years ago)

Oh yeah, and sometimes metal bands do nice ballads which don't have metal elements (loud and distorted guitars, shouting or screaming, etc) in them, but I'm not sure what subgenre is that.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 June 2009 12:30 (sixteen years ago)

which bands have decent rapping in it then? what rap metal songs do you like if you cant name any bands?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 8 June 2009 12:34 (sixteen years ago)

I liked the tune Onyx did with some metal band in the early 90s. And RATM has some okay songs too. Plus the more metallish tunes by M.O.P and Cypress Hill are nice also.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 June 2009 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

i assume that's the tune Biohazard did with Onyx. They were more hardcore than metal but iirc it was ok that tune.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 12:40 (sixteen years ago)

this will end beautifully

the England guy that throws the balls (country matters), Monday, 8 June 2009 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

No, I don't like that song at all. Why does the singer have to sing like that, it sounds like he has some mucus stuck in his throat? Also, the guitars are too loud and the drummer could learn a bit more about syncopation. The bass is okay though.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 June 2009 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

getting back on Gore, just listened to their debut Hart Gore, this is some serious minimal shit, Steve Albini will love this. the sounds of the drums is massive, songs are all the same to me, but luckily they are usually short and literally blend into each other, pretty good grindin' throughout. heh, "He knows your alone", nice creepy title.

Ludo, Monday, 8 June 2009 13:20 (sixteen years ago)

In the Eye of the Sniper could be the beast (hmm best) track.

Ludo, Monday, 8 June 2009 13:22 (sixteen years ago)

Southern Lord reissued the Gore lps last year as they had been long out of print. Hopefully the others will follow soon.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)

Tuomas thanks for listening to it. That's easily the poppiest thing Reverend Bizarre have done. Usually they are more DOOM. Of course they still managed to get a finnish no1 with their last ever single.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

i actually kinda love it when an austere longwinded metal band puts tongue slightly in cheek and has some poppy fun

the England guy that throws the balls (country matters), Monday, 8 June 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

Tuomas what do you think of this?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

getting back on Gore, just listened to their debut Hart Gore, this is some serious minimal shit, Steve Albini will love this. t

In march 1986, they entered the studio to record their first LP, entitled "Hart Gore". After Hart Gore and the follow-up, Mean Man's Dream, they then released a live album featuring Gore on one side and Henry Rollins on the other.[1][2] In 1988, the band played at the New Music Seminar in New York, and signed to the large Megadisc label, releasing the double album Wrede/The Cruel Peace in 1988, the album co-produced by Steve Albini.

releasing the double album Wrede/The Cruel Peace in 1988, the album co-produced by Steve Albini.

that was bound to happen :)
a double album no less!

Southern Lord re-releasing their stuff, that's great. i hope a dutch music magazine (there are only a few) will do an article on them if there will be more re-releases, i had never heard of them.

Ludo, Monday, 8 June 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

hopefully that album will get reissued soon, i only have mp3s. Not heard anything after that album but apparently it's not as good as the early stuff.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 8 June 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

The later Gore records were some kind of collaboration with theatre groups, lotsa Dutch dialogue over the music, pretty unlistenable really. Wrede is awesome though, double album with one song per side!

Do I need to know about Christian Metal btw?

is NV upset at black only getting 6 or because it was too high for him? I thought he'd be a prog metal voter.

not surprised death metal did so well, that's always been the more extreme real metallers mainstream choice over the years.
Way more than doom. Saint Vitus' "born Too late" lyrics dont mean anything anymore!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 June 2009 12:18 (sixteen years ago)

1
Every time I'm on the street
People laugh and point at me
They talk about my length of hair
And the out of date clothes I wear

They say I look like the living dead
They say I can't have much in my head
They say my songs are much too slow
But they don't know the things I know

I know I don't belong
And there's nothing I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you

In my life things never change
To everybody I seem strange
But in my world now something's died
So I just stare with these insane eyes

I know I don't belong
And there's nothing that I can do
I was born too late
And I'll never be like you

Kerr you and your many sockpuppets gotta be chuffed at this result but nice as it was when 28 minutes of Boris and Sunn O))) ("Her Lips Were Wet With Venom") came onto my iPod shuffle earlier today, I couldn't shake the feeling afterwards that I hadn't been truly moved, enriched or otherwise

I get this quite a lot with doom :(

louis and his 5 sockpuppets should stick to avant garde metal then..

If I had voted more than once, Black would have seen some LJ love, no question.

Gets me thinking. I wonder if any of the other three had a _reason_ for voting Viking either

I voted Viking because I like Tyr! I like Vikings too!

i just reviewed a great new album by an AMERICAN viking metal band. Hammer Horde. really good stuff. from Ohio, even!

I'm surprised that "technical" wasn't even a category. The poor showing of "black" is a bit astonishing really. But it is an acquired taste and many true metal heads that I know hate black metal, so perhaps it isn't surprising that it didn't reach critical mass.

Neotropical pygmy squirrel, Friday, 12 June 2009 22:40 (sixteen years ago)

Black Metal is definitely getting more accepted ,bigger and certainly more "hip" in recent years. But Death always was much more popular and i think BM has a long way to go to catch up.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 June 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

funnily enough i used to hate BM but started to hear stuff i liked, while with DM, i could never get into outside of maybe Entombed and Coffins.

I love how louis thinks everyone is like him and has sockpuppets btw

one year passes...

You just have to face it... DOOM dominates. It is the best metal subgenre, it is the most progressive and interesting and emotionally powerful metal it is the highlander and destroys all metals to become the one.... slowwwwllllyyy.

BOW TO DOOM.

Randolph Carter (Viceroy), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

are you quoting lj?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:31 (fifteen years ago)

when did whiney decide nu-metal nostalgia was hip? only 2 votes here and fuck all in the alltime metal poll.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:32 (fifteen years ago)

i voted some nu-metal in the fuck-all poll.

demons a. real (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:35 (fifteen years ago)

listened to tons of stoner rock, doom & black metal over the past 10 years or so, but lately find myself spending more time with bands that looks back to thrash, NWOBHM, power metal, even glam. i'm especially psyched when there's an element of prog to tie a bunch of different ideas/riffs together. thinking in particular of hammers of misfortune and christian mistress (recent favorite). nostalgia?

also like tougher, more streamlined bands with traces of those sounds: black breath, even high on fire. metal classicism, i guess.

Have you heard Dawnbringer yet? the album on profoundlore is great.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

huh-uh. thanks for the heads up. reviews make it sound very promising. any similarity to the 1st skeletonwitch?

having taken an actual journalism class (contenderizer), Monday, 27 September 2010 22:58 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not really familiar with Skeletonwitch. It definitely has a NWOBHM vibe to it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 27 September 2010 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

love the 1st skeletonwitch, beyond the permafrost! the second not so much. their basic sound is kind of NWOBHM via black metal. necro but slick, raspy vocals, blazing twin/harmonized solos.

having taken an actual journalism class (contenderizer), Monday, 27 September 2010 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

Wouldn't say Dawnbringer was BM influenced .

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 27 September 2010 23:17 (fifteen years ago)

so i guess they dont sound alike

this still makes me chuckle

Rap metal is the only one I can tolerate, so that.
