Really, I can dig on some Black, Death, Doom, Speed, Stoner, Thrash, Crust, Drone, Sludge and Viking. I'm a total dilettante when it comes to METAL though.

I don't like any metal, but rap metal is the most tolerable, because sometimes it has decent rapping in it.

Oh yeah, and sometimes metal bands do nice ballads which don't have metal elements (loud and distorted guitars, shouting or screaming, etc) in them, but I'm not sure what subgenre is that.

I liked the tune Onyx did with some metal band in the early 90s. And RATM has some okay songs too. Plus the more metallish tunes by M.O.P and Cypress Hill are nice also.

i assume that's the tune Biohazard did with Onyx. They were more hardcore than metal but iirc it was ok that tune.

No, I don't like that song at all. Why does the singer have to sing like that, it sounds like he has some mucus stuck in his throat? Also, the guitars are too loud and the drummer could learn a bit more about syncopation. The bass is okay though.

getting back on Gore, just listened to their debut Hart Gore, this is some serious minimal shit, Steve Albini will love this. the sounds of the drums is massive, songs are all the same to me, but luckily they are usually short and literally blend into each other, pretty good grindin' throughout. heh, "He knows your alone", nice creepy title.

In the Eye of the Sniper could be the beast (hmm best) track.

Southern Lord reissued the Gore lps last year as they had been long out of print. Hopefully the others will follow soon.

Tuomas thanks for listening to it. That's easily the poppiest thing Reverend Bizarre have done. Usually they are more DOOM. Of course they still managed to get a finnish no1 with their last ever single.

Southern Lord re-releasing their stuff, that's great. i hope a dutch music magazine (there are only a few) will do an article on them if there will be more re-releases, i had never heard of them.

hopefully that album will get reissued soon, i only have mp3s. Not heard anything after that album but apparently it's not as good as the early stuff.

The later Gore records were some kind of collaboration with theatre groups, lotsa Dutch dialogue over the music, pretty unlistenable really. Wrede is awesome though, double album with one song per side!

Lots of Trouble is out of print. I need to replace my copy of the s/t which is destroyed. it sucks because I never put it on my hard drive.

i just reviewed a great new album by an AMERICAN viking metal band. Hammer Horde. really good stuff. from Ohio, even!

I'm surprised that "technical" wasn't even a category. The poor showing of "black" is a bit astonishing really. But it is an acquired taste and many true metal heads that I know hate black metal, so perhaps it isn't surprising that it didn't reach critical mass.

Black Metal is definitely getting more accepted ,bigger and certainly more "hip" in recent years. But Death always was much more popular and i think BM has a long way to go to catch up.

funnily enough i used to hate BM but started to hear stuff i liked, while with DM, i could never get into outside of maybe Entombed and Coffins.

listened to tons of stoner rock, doom & black metal over the past 10 years or so, but lately find myself spending more time with bands that looks back to thrash, NWOBHM, power metal, even glam. i'm especially psyched when there's an element of prog to tie a bunch of different ideas/riffs together. thinking in particular of hammers of misfortune and christian mistress (recent favorite). nostalgia?

also like tougher, more streamlined bands with traces of those sounds: black breath, even high on fire. metal classicism, i guess.

love the 1st skeletonwitch, beyond the permafrost! the second not so much. their basic sound is kind of NWOBHM via black metal. necro but slick, raspy vocals, blazing twin/harmonized solos.
