I gotta say ive been sleeping-kinda on these dudes ... i remember hearing about how aeroplane-y some of their shit was, but its way more associated w/ a trashy/trendy/LA/kitsune/scene-y type deal, which should be off putting except instead it makes me like it more?? maybe bcuz my impression of that scene is that its such a musical wasteland.
but yeah what won me over wasn't the cred-building stuff like the phoenix remix or the holy ghost remix (which is the shit) or this track (which is dope) w/ the jailbait video (less dope):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAzojbN9_yk
but this SWAYZE remix that still has their corny ass lyrics, but now they're like, cheesy-in-a-good-way cuz the music underneath is so good, real embrace of this trashy LA aesthetic but w/ the production/songwriting to back it up, aka the CRAZYTOWN appeal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg4LK70Rp_U
um also i like them cuz they sound like simian mobile disco's "I believe"
― butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:19 (sixteen years ago)
i think that their willingness to go into the trashy waters makes them more appealing & fearless or something, and i sorta suspect my distrust of that scene is probably a lil bit of male nerdery / fronting
― butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:20 (sixteen years ago)
it is of course this sunshine hazy slow mo disco shit but brought to a more populist/less trainspotter world that im really digging about it.

i like that it doesnt just make a bad song good, but makes things that were bad about the original into things that are good about the remix ... like its not about removing bad parts but recontextualizing them into becoming good parts, like this bad/good pop rapping

basically w/ this & the shwayze i think its that they take borderline-nihilistic emotionally-retarded hipstro-detachment & turn it into, u know, feeling
not sure they quite pull it off with this one but maybe thats more interesting? Actually they do pull it off circa "...and our eyes might meet?" i think i can hear that question mark

* What influences your music though?
We're really into early analog electronic music like ‘Kraftwerk’ and then bands like ‘Depeche Mode’. I think one of the first people that really brought us to dance music was ‘Stuart Price’ (aka Jaques Lu Cont, Paper Faces, Man With Guitar, Thin White Duke, Les Rhythmes Digitales…etc.) that was one of the first artists that made me realize not all dance music was cheesy & the ‘DFA’ too. Right now we are really into ‘Simian Mobile Disco’ because their sound seems a lot more timeless than a lot of the other producers right now. That’s what we're striving for.
― hoos-kingofthedrugs (deej), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

i like the aeroplaney disco remixes they've been coming out with but i wish they'd put out a couple more big hard-hitters like cold act ill. also when they were known as young americans they did a great remix of 'bombs' by scanners

― ... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 08:58 (twelve years ago)
Yeah it kinda feels like they should have released this album three years ago, there's a real 'Magician-remixing-Cut-Copy' vibe to the whole thing. I mean it's an enjoyable record but it feels like a furrow that's been pretty comprehensively ploughed by now.
Keen students of the Daft Punk/Pharrell debate from three weeks ago should note that these are exactly the sort of terrible disco vocalists I was talking about. Who is this Jeppe guy that these dudes all bring in to honk over the top of their records? His unjustified land-grab is worse than Emeli Sande and Hitler, dammit.

this album is really cool, agreed it's lost much of its zeitgeist-y energy but it's a pretty strong record
opening track 3 min. mark is teh bomb

The entire album's a bit much but I really like the track with the the Fleetwood Mac Seven Wonders interpolation in it. (Hanging Garden?)
― Doran, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 12:46 (twelve years ago)
with the nice weather this album is on constant rotation. hard to find fault with any of it really

"a fax from the beach" is such a corny post-chillwave track title at first glance but after you listen to the song its so hilariously spot-on

I need to listen to this on better speakers, but this "Stranger Love" cover by De Lux might be kind of amazing?https://soundcloud.com/innovativeleisure/classixx-a-stranger-love-de

Saw these guys supporting Cut Copy last night. They are huge amounts of fun live. Was really surprised how great I'll Get You was. It's always been one of my least favourites on the album but it sounded so exciting last night. They ended with All You're Waiting For (sadly Nancy appeared only on screen) which was the big highlight. They also did a couple of covers (songs by The Preachers and Yacht) Think I'm going to playing this album a lot for the second summer in a row.

I blasted "Holding On" driving home from work yesterday, for which it is of course well suited.

So weird to me how many ppl think of "I'll get you" as being from the album, it was their big breakthrough single for years before the lp dropped

Haha, just now I'm working on a dj setlist for friend's party this Thursday and I was thinking of using two Classixx songs in there.

Really struggling to get into this new one. The vocalists are all horrendeous in different ways and the synths are so cheap and plasticy.

forgot how much i liked this stupid song with the passion pit singer

First album is ideal for mild South Florida December afternoons, i.e. faxing from the beach.
