It happened after Taylor Swift’s victory in the Best Female Video category for “You Belong To Me,” which beat out Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” Just moments after Swift accepted the Moonman and began her acceptance speech, Kanye West stormed the stage, taking the microphone from Swift to announce Beyoncé deserved the award.

“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!,” Kanye shouted to a mortified Swift and the speechless audience. And as quickly as he ran onstage — MTV cut away to show Pink, and when they flashed back to Swift, West already had the mic in his hand — he was off, leaving a shocked Swift in his wake.

Everyone at the Radio City Music Hall looked stunned, as the cameras captured an astonished and horrified Beyoncé still in her seat. Soon after, the audience gave a standing ovation in support of Swift. To add insult to injury, after Kanye handed the microphone back to Swift, her time was up, and MTV cut to a video featuring Tracy Morgan and Eminem.

According to sources at the VMAs, Swift was seen hysterically crying backstage after Kanye’s outburst, making it convenient that her performance of “You Belong to Me,” which immediately followed the acceptance speech, was prerecorded. Wale, who is serving as MC for the house band, told the crowd, “You can’t fault a man for speaking his mind,” which was promptly met by boos from the Radio City Music Hall crowd. According to our sources inside Radio City, Kanye was promptly tossed from the VMAs after interrupting Swift’s speech.

I'm torn on this. I think there's no way that Taylor Swift should've won because her competition was so superior, and I love it when Kanye goes nuts and talks out of his ass. i was talking to a friend who works in development at mtv and was at the vmas last night, she said that "the outburst wasn't unexpected" but refused to give more details. and some other things that basically hinted that mtv planned the whole thing for attention xfd

Jay also did a similar thing with Oprah. He told Oprah that the only way Beyonce would go on her show was if she also allowed Jay on because Oprah never had a rapper on her show before.

Basically, Jay-Z is leveraging his relationship with Beyonce for more fame/recognition and vice versa.

Quite simply, look at the featured artists on BP3. He has a large stake in GOOD Music, which is Kanye's label and both Kid Cudi and Mr. Hudson are signed to it. Similarly, Roc Nation is his label and J. Cole is signed to it and he was trying to sign Drake to Roc Nation too for around 2 million dollars, but that fell through. Alicia Keys is on it because she's dating Swizz Beatz and Luke Steele is on it for the indie fans (also why Jay was seen at Grizzly Bear with Beyonce).

Blueprint 3 is just Jay-Z's investment plan.

yes, kanye is a black black guy. yes, taylor is a white white girl. yes, kanye is kind of a dick. yes, racist assholes will take advantage of kanye's dickishness to try to make some badly formed "point". but taking an informal collection of twitter searches for "kanye+nigger" and offering it up as proof of a trend has the same level of journalistic thoroughness and integrity that the NYT shows with it's frequent "Guava Jelly shows up in 4.3 million google searches".

I dunno; this all seems really predictable and sad and tired and i'm not sure i see it as much more than "harry allen: discovering there are idiots on twitter" excepting the reasonable but obvious point that outright racism truly ought to be at least as repugnant to any right-thinking person as threatening someone with direct violence.
