I actually like when polls use previous comments, much more so than blurbs. Ties it all back together as opposed to reading like some sort of pronouncement from on high.

Any particular reason why Nachtmystium's Doomsday Derelicts EP isn't on this list? I'd guess because it's an EP, but so are Jesu and Nadja and others, I'm sure. Just an oversight, then? Can I include it on my list?

Thanks, didn't realize there was a nomination process. Out of curiosity, why wasn't it nominated? (Doomsday Derelicts, I mean.) Regulars here weren't into it? For my money, it's an excellent EP from the band who made the best metal album of 2008.

I think most people dont nominate ep's apart from chuck. I think generally for metal polls people don't want ep's. The general ilm poll i think welcomes ep's.

But im guessing everyone just forgot about it. Nachtmystium were top 10 in last years poll, so there's no lack of love for them.

DJ Mencap: I agree, it's not an album, but it's better than many albums I heard this year. And if Jesu's EPs are being considered, why not Nachtmystium? But it's not some great crime against list-making, just a personal note. That said, here are a few others that would have made my ballot if they had been nominated (these are actual LPs): Mournful Congregation's "The June Frost"; Hiems' "Worship or Die."

Actually, I have no opinion of (or interest in) 90 % of that list, metal or otherwise, to be honest. (Did check out the Voivod, though -- it's good! Didn't get through My Dying Bride. Couldn't find Wolf on Rhapsody, though theoretically it's there.)

I'm kinda surprised there were only 30 votes last year. The metal threads seem to get a lot of action.

Thanks for the vids on the other thread. Makes going through the list a little easier.

Quite a few of the metal regulars refuse to vote in polls so it spreads to others. Maybe last years poll went down so well others have joined in. People did seem quite keen to run another one this year.
I think starting the voting a bit earlier also helped this year, people said they were burnt out by voting in magazines and P&J.
I hope others will still vote and i also hope that even if j0hn,roxy,scott,ned etc still refuse to vote, they join in the threads at least.
Of course if the 1st 3 there all voted then "troo metal" would of course be better represented.

So hopefully more will join in the fun and vote.

Sonic Youth, easy. I really love some of their stuff (up through Sister) and like other things as well. I'd go see them live, despite finding their last few albums dull as dishwater and treading over well-tread ground (same goes for Yo La Tengo, another past favorite). Baroness aren't dull, but they do annoy me.

Is it the vocals that annoy you?

Vocals plus prog. I love spacey Meddle-esque metal but most other strains of proginess turn me off. I don't like Mastodon either (though, much like Baroness, they have some killer riffs).

I dont tabulate the results, glenn does, so i have no idea who is winning or anything, but judging by the ballots ive seen i reckon its pretty tight now. I have no idea what the order will be.

actually theres 5 ties for no 100 but there's no ties as such because 1 album has more actual voters than the others. so i think thats good enough. i only count as a tie if an album has the same points and number of voters and has zero no1 votes. A no1 vote places ahead of number of voters in my system.
