I'm so over heavy/math-y rock and have been for years, so I'm not the target audience for it. I find it hard to believe anyone could bear listening to those vocals, though.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 20 January 2010 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

I was repping for the Extra Life album on here yesterday I think - I am super impressed by it on first play and the vox didn't strike me as objectively more offputting than other dealbreakers of our time (Antony/Newsom/Dirty Projectors guy etc) who enough people think sound great

Not to be all picky here, but I think I'd like that Liars cover a whole lot more with just a single door without the other two cut off on the sides.

I can, but the title Sisterworld makes me think of just a door to one alternate world, not a series of them. I'm weird like that though.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

As soon as I saw that cover I was all OMG COVER - have not heard the album yet

the album-title refers to the crush depth of submarines I think - if you view the cover as an abstract imagination of a submarine succumbing to the forces of the deep, it becomes 3x as awesome

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 13:32 (fifteen years ago)

j0rdslovesomedude (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not a non-fan of geometric shapes as album art, but the difference between the Shining art, which actually creates interest through depth, and the Chrome Hoof art, which looks like it was just run by a 2D graphics program on Windows 95, is pretty vast.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, that Wolf Parade cover is just another of many indie rock album covers that look too much like magazine ads to me. In that specific case its more of the typography's fault- the picture is pretty neat!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 June 2010 12:24 (fifteen years ago)

I should note that when I saw a physical copy of that Mossa album the cover looked different, better looking I might add, but I guess they re-did it because there were semi-visible lady parts on it (I'm guessing this image was for done for safe for work online purposes?)

It's a beautiful cover! The colours! The way the sky... bends like that. It's awesome!

However, I expected the music within to sound like that Justin Beiber slowed down 8000 times track, but instead it's just annoyingly over the top art rock indie prog of the sort that L-Jagz would insist WAS THE BEST! THING! EVER! for about two weeks before admitting sheepishly "actually, that was kinda sub-Rundergren wank, to be honest."

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 10 September 2010 13:28 (fifteen years ago)

The No Age album sleeve has these two fold-out booklety things w/ collage artwork and really looks pretty excellent - it's also pretty delicate and will probably get ruined if the album has any sort of replay value for you (ripping to iPods etc notwithstanding)

The Scissor Sisters cover is a classic photograph - it's Mapplethorpe, fer cryin' out loud! And it works perfectly with the album.

Add to that a perfectly tacky 80s-style hand drawn album title and the best band logo in pop, and it's a winner through and through.

Unsuprisingly a metal album cover....Alcests 'Ecailles De Lune'. Beautiful album and cover. It reflects the music perfectly exactly I think.

It's just a photo of a cracking vinyl stool cover or whatever. Granted, things take on different qualities from an overhead perspective, but once you figure out that out it seems like a really cheap shot.

sadly, feel like the album won't be equal to the cover.

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 23 October 2010 03:55 (fifteen years ago)

I guess I like the concept of that one (I do a lot of similar looks for mixes), but I don't like the weight of the type or the placement/dimensions of it at all.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 23 October 2010 03:58 (fifteen years ago)

o man, i know this is all super subjective and a bunch of these end up in both the 'best' and 'worst' cover threads but that one is just terrrrrrible to me

bear, bear, bear, Saturday, 23 October 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

i love the stark lettering, industrial vibe and hazy red hue. has a vaguely menacing and desolate feel to me.

Really, I have no problem with the image used (I think it's great). Just don't like the type. They could've manipulated it a little bit instead of using it as it comes (the tops of the A's are driving me nuts).

The Emeralds one looks spookily like an out-take from the inside photos off Verve's A Storm In Heaven. But I guess that does rather go with their aesthetic.
