Same rules as the tracks poll. An extra day for nominations just for the stragglers who leave it to the last day and wish they had another day to do the albums.
Grunge counts as Metal/heavy rock. So does Janes Addiction but Sonic Youth dont. So use some common sense.
If you're not sure, post it on the thread asking if it's ok. You know plenty will have an opinion.
I'll start things off with a few obvious albums
Alice In Chains - DirtBlack Sabbath - Vol IVBurzum - FilosofemGodflesh - StreetcleanerHelmet - MeantimeKyuss - Welcome To Sky ValleyLed Zeppelin - IINirvana - In UteroIron Maiden - Iron MaidenMetallica - Ride The Lightning (ilxor and ksh, do not nominate st anger or death magnetic)Ministry - Psalm 69Queens Of The Stone Age - S/t

question: do Ulver's last two albums count?
You can nominate the last 2 Ulver. Dunno if anyone will vote for them but to me its no different from a metal band making a folk album or whatever. Ulver are still a metal band making electronic stuff as far as im concerned.

whitey on the moon, why would metal dudes clown you? I hope we're an open minded bunch, tho I realise many wont agree new albums are all time classics yet, but i dont see why they shouldn't be nominated.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:35 (fourteen years ago)
Something that will make things easier. If you nominate a band, try and get all their albums you think should be nommed altogether.Like list all the classic sabbath albums in 1 go.same with maiden ,metallica etc I really should have done that in my first post.

Herman, I remember a lot of "metal for indie kids" comments re: Baroness. Thought some may clown the As I Lay Dying because, come on...http://www.100xr.com/100_XR/Artists/A/As_I_Lay_Dying/As.I.Lay.Dying-band-2004.jpgAlso, they're Christians with painfully emo lyrics. Album would prob do nothing for me if I heard it for the first time now, but it really does hold a place in my heart and I still want to hear it once in a while, and I'm generally not into metal.
― underneath the moon and the stars (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:47 (fourteen years ago)
Then again, a lot of metal bands look pretty ridic.
― underneath the moon and the stars (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 23:48 (fourteen years ago)
I dunno the band at all, but everyone on here likes stuff others dont so i wouldnt worry. Baroness are great, but i doubt they would make an alltime top 50. But if it makes someone el ses then who am i to argue.I prefer people voting for their genuine favourite records rather than the tactical voting of "im only going to vote for what i think will place" bullshit.

i said we could set limits and veto stuff in here, but it would be damn silly to exclude Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Melvins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney who appealed to the metal side of grunge. Already said at the top that sonic youth kind of stuff is a nogo. It's still a variant heavy rock or metal. It's not ilm's alltime best extreme metal albums poll.

my internal guideline was to avoid stuff that was more punk than hard rock, and I feel like you've got a good balance here of welcoming somewhat alt/grunge mainstream stuff but not opening it to the deluge of punk. it's your poll, though.

as much as I love fugazi im not sure they belong here. Yet with Minor Threat i have less objections. NOFX I despise more than any 90s punk band but that's not really a good enough reason to exclude them, so i'll leave it to you guys, do they belong? (please say no)It's not really MY poll though, it's everyones poll. So you guys set the rules.
argh primus, i really dunno whether they or fishbone belong. That's borderline stuff. argh help me guys.

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:55 (fourteen years ago)
I am totally unfamiliar with Refused so I have no idea if they or their copyists have a heavy rock/metal edge to them.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:56 (fourteen years ago)
Primus dudes came from metal bands and there is some heavy bits so I guess theyre fine.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 8 July 2010 13:57 (fourteen years ago)
Refused and NOFX are pretty different though, unless Shape of Punk to Come is unrepresentative. I might include Refused before NOFX but I don't have a strong opinion on this.
TBH, the line does seem a bit thin if we're including "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (or, say, the Who) but not Husker Du/Dinosaur Jr/Sonic Youth. Still, you need to draw the line somewhere.

I haven't looked at the Tracks nom thread yet, because I feel like that'll be much more time consuming to think about, but I feel like we can afford to be a little more choosy with the Albums poll for bands that don't feel 100% like they belong here, and if they ultimately don't, maybe just have their heaviest song(s) represented in the Tracks poll.

smithy is a known poll hater, he dislikes me, but is engaging in internet point scoring that is beneath him, much like he pointed out to ksh on the wavves thread.

So who's going to nominate the Zombi record this time? I need some other non-metal to go on my ballot to really piss the metallers off. (Also, it is awesome.)
― emil.y, Thursday, 8 July 2010 15:18 (fourteen years ago)
i'm with aerosmith. mostly. i think yer a cool dude, herm, and all that but man its just too much. if you told me five years ago or whenever that i would actually be sick of seeing new metal threads pop up on ilm i wouldn't have believed it. its overload. for me, personally. obviously. i've gotten good at just ignoring though.

I think having Zombi in an end of year poll is fine (surprised so many voted for it) , but I don't think it would be right to include them in an alltime poll.I'm sure everyone will have no problem coming up with a list between 10-50 albums for an alltime list (note you dont need to choose 50, its upto 50 with a minimum of 10 or 15, which is yet to be decided)xp

the first mistake a young comedian makes is often assuming that his audience has extensive knowledge of zoological nomenclature. once you get past that its all perfecting your timing and following the dick joke pathway to success.

well the name went over my head so I would never have thought it was you smithy (unless there was an ace of base black metal covers album nominated), so no worries.
I'll count the noms then since a) you think it's actually a good one and b)i already entered it and alphabetised it and cant be arsed going through it all to delete individually.

― "enduring lack of street cred" (Ioannis), Thursday, 8 July 2010 20:45 (fourteen years ago)
not to point out the obvious too much but what this means is that some regular reader of our metal threads is a v. weird creepy stalker-type sending emails to people in the hopes that they'll seem like me
tip you sad creepy types (and I guess to Ioannis): I hate on poseurs a lot, but I'm also pretty PC, and wouldn't call anybody "faggy" - I also prefer death metal to black metal, and I wouldn't nominate anything for an "alltime best metal/heavy rock albums poll, much less a copied and pasted list of conservatively-chosen standard-bearers. it's sad to me that you think a person using a term like "faggy" is doing an even half-passable imitation of me. a person who wants to do a good impression of me must jump off of a really tall building, which is something I do each morning, because I am hardcore.
― les yeux sans aerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Thursday, 8 July 2010 20:46 (fourteen years ago)

― "enduring lack of street cred" (Ioannis), Thursday, 8 July 2010 20:58 (fourteen years ago)
aero, if it helps
a) i for one really am kinda stupid and thus did not get the MG reference so i never woulda thought it was youb) thinking whoever did that wasnt actually trying to pull off an identity grab because the rest of it (outside of zoological trivia) doesnt really sound like you at all, so it was maybe meant as a little inside joke to us all? not trying to tell you what to think but im thinking it wasnt meant in quite that mean-spirited a way.

If Alice Cooper is in then
Alice Cooper - Love it to Death
...should be in there too, so I can vote for it. This is a wicked list! Swans, Foetus and Young Gods don't feel right to me, as much as I appreciate them. Same with Killing Joke and Chrome, as yet un-nominated but heavier than quite a few here. Something about the self-consciousness makes them fall under the "not Sonic Youth" clause.
― bendy, Thursday, 8 July 2010 21:21 (fourteen years ago)
Like i said if enough people say no to bands they can veto them. This is the time to do it. but the young gods did have a metal crowd from l'eau rouge onwards, so they do belong.I saw them in 1995 with Laika opening and noone was interested in them bar 2 students down the front as they just wanted heavy stuff (Laika did play 1 track with really heavy guitars sampled which did get the crowd headbanging)

Actually Land of Rape and Honey is the last great Ministry album. A Mind... has some good songs on it mixed in with some godawful shit and some good ideas that go on for too long and Psalm 69 is just a flat-out dick.
but yeah, I'm not a metal guy

― Sundar, Saturday, 10 July 2010 20:02 (fourteen years ago)
Will probably set a minimum of 10 or 15 so to try counter the will vote for the 5 indie crossover albums in the list thing.
I'm thinking 50 as a maximum. As it's an alltime poll, I think plenty wont have a problem making a list of 50. But those who don't want to can do anywhere inbetween.
If anyone has any thoughts on this they better voice them now as it will be too late once voting opens.

Can people please go through the list and select albums that they feel DOES NOT fit the criteria of the poll, so that we can discuss and veto anything that is felt should not be in the list.
This is the time to say so as it will be far too late to change once voting is opened, and if any of it appears in the poll results, it will be because the complainants did not say anything when nominations were discussed!

I assume everyone is OK with early manic street preachers being on the list? (one of my fave bands at one time so I'm fine with it, indie kids used to dismiss them as a heavy rock band anyway)
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:10 (fourteen years ago)
Boredoms - Super AeFushitsusha - s/t (PSF 3/4)King Crimson - RedScraping Foetus Off the Wheel - HoleScraping Foetus Off the Wheel - NailThe jesus lizard - goat
Much as I love all these records I'm not sure any of them belong in this poll, others may disagree.
― A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:30 (fourteen years ago)
Keep Crimson in, I say.
― Sundar, Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:36 (fourteen years ago)
I'm about to nominate an album I haven't even finished my first listen to
namely The Wildhearts - Endless, Nameless
― RIP la petite mort (acoleuthic), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:42 (fourteen years ago)
i think the foetus albums are the most controversial along with boredoms.Even my co-helper who loves foetus thinks they should not be in it.The manics one is tricky cuz they are actually popular enough to get in the poll, but the early manics was hard rock. I would not allow post richey stuff in. But if enough people want to veto a band (and more people dont say keep them in) then they will get vetoed.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago)
LJ that album is pish
Aw, I possibly would have voted for Fushitsusha. Would need to listen again. And actually, I'll probably just stick to the tracks poll as I know more individual RAWK songs than I do albums.
― emil.y, Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:45 (fourteen years ago)
you're wrong, neuname
― RIP la petite mort (acoleuthic), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:46 (fourteen years ago)
I think fushitsusha will stay. So you can still vote for it
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:47 (fourteen years ago)
Plus i cannot wait to see emil.y's alltime metal/heavy rock albums list!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:49 (fourteen years ago)
Hm, I'm really not sure if I'll do albums. I'm pretty set on doing the tracks, though. The annoying thing is that if you keep Boredoms it'd give me something else to vote for, but I'm not convinced that it belongs here either.
― emil.y, Saturday, 10 July 2010 22:55 (fourteen years ago)
There's plenty you will want to vote for (and you can still nominate) so you're voting! But i think boredoms get the boot.

Yeah there was a big Kerrang crossover to that AOR / Journey / Toto kind of thing through the 80s (largely due to assistant editor Derek Oliver), and Bryan Adams & Michael Bolton were associated more with that genre before they became family faves.
OK, my last nomination : Venom - Welcome To Hell
― A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Sunday, 11 July 2010 01:15 (fourteen years ago)
Added (i thought it was in there but wasn't)
So who has objections to nominations and believe something to be non metal/heavy rock and should be vetoed from the list? This thread is the only time to do it. Once nominations are over on friday that is it.No point on telling me on AIM in Chatz that stuff isn't suitable. Do it here!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 01:45 (fourteen years ago)
It's odd to see punk like Misfits, Black Flag and Bad Brains qualify as heavy rock, but not Hüsker Dü and Dinosaur Jr. Hrm. And if Jesus Lizard qualifieds, why not Scratch Acid, Birthday Party, and indeed, Killing Joke.
The Birthday Party - Prayers On Fire (4AD) 81Pink Fairies - Kings Of Oblivion (Polydor) 73Sweet - Sweet Fanny Adams (RCA) 74Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You (Elektra) 70Hawkwind - Hall Of the Mountain Grill (UA/One Way) 74 Sweet - Desolation Boulevard (RCA) 74The Birthday Party - Junkyard (Virgin) 82 Killing Joke - Killing Joke (EG) 80 Motörhead - Ace Of Spades (Roadracer) 80 Heavy Metal Kids (Atlantic/Lemon) 74 Mastodon – Crack The Skye (Reprise/WEA) 09 The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium (GSL/Universal) 03Hawkwind - In Search Of Space (UA/One Way) 71 Graveyard (Tee Pee) 08 Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth (Import) 98 Dead Man - Euphoria (Crusher) 08 Scratch Acid - Just Keep Eating (Rabid Cat) 86 Hawkwind - Doremi Fasol Latido (UA/One Way) 72
― Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 11 July 2010 02:34 (fourteen years ago)
Black Flag are in as it was a sludgy metal album of the late period. Im guessing misfits got in because of Danzig? However It can be vetoed. Do you want to veto it? Bad Brains got that 1 album in as it was basically a heavy rock record. I think jesus lizard was vetoed but I just havent posted the updated list yet.
hmm im sure killing joke and pandemonium were nominated, so i dunno what happened to them
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 02:41 (fourteen years ago)
scratch acid, birthday party are not metal or heavy rock. I love the pink fairies but im not sure, plus i cant see ppl voting for them.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 02:43 (fourteen years ago)
we have 818 nominations. I think essentials that are missing should be the main concern.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 02:47 (fourteen years ago)
I'll add Pink Fairies - Kings Of Oblivion
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 02:48 (fourteen years ago)
Rage Against the Machine - Evil EmpireNine Inch Nails - Broken*Nadja - The Bungled & the BotchedA Black Rose Burial - An Awakening of RevanentsGorgoroth - Destroyer (or About How to Philosophize with the Hammer) Boris - Vein (hardcore version)Ramesses - Misanthropic AlchemySwans - FilthSwans - Cop
*okay i don't know if this counts because it's pretty industrial. can we say industrial music? if so i can think of some skinny puppy and that coil album i listened to was pretty badass. actually, i think skinny puppy and coil are not appropriate for this poll; it's just really angry and evil sounding, not specifically rocking. i'm still saying broken, though.

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 14:14 (fourteen years ago)
Those particular two Sweet albums and Heavy Metal Kids are harder rockin than, say Queen, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam and a good number other albums on the list. Anyone who hasn't yet heard Sweet Fanny Adams in particular, I recommend it. Previous polls this is our chance to advocate for some of the underrated albums. I also wrote a little on Heavy Metal Kids and Desolation Boulevard.
I only listed what I'd vote for, provided ballots allow for 20 or 30 entries. Smaller ballots = most predictable classics.
Love the Misfits - Static Age album, but it's pure punk. So veto. On the fence about Fishbone, as they do have some metal guitars on a couple songs.
Repeated, wrongly titled: Night Fall On Middle-Earth Correction: Baroness - Blue Record
― Fastnbulbous, Sunday, 11 July 2010 14:18 (fourteen years ago)
I'm not sure about the mars volta nomination.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 14:38 (fourteen years ago)
can someone with knowledge check the 70s nominations and confirm that they are all genuine heavy rock albums? Curtis seems to think Lynyrd Skynyrd should not be in the poll, someone else said Captain Beyond shouldn't be.
Also any of the more alternative stuff, should they be vetoed? (nirvana/pearl jam/soundgarden/Helmet/janes addiction stay in, but should fishbone, manics, lightning bolt ,refused , swans, the god machine (who i love but...) the mars volta, )
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
oh and does a perfect circle belong?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
I think all those bands belong, myself. How are the Mars Volta not progressive hard rock?
― Sundar, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
I'm only asking, i know others will say they all don't belong. But im giving the chance for others to veto stuff now as it will be too late to veto when noms go up, and if anyone complains in the results thread I can just remind them that they had the chance to veto.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:07 (fourteen years ago)
I nominated At The Drive-In on basis that it qualifies if Mars Volta are in. I'd say it's pretty clear heavy rock. Mars Volta I don't really know very well, they seemed kind of heavy to me.
The Manics should be in - they started out pretty explicitly trying to be a kind of GnR/Clash hybrid, albeit in a sort of weird way. Gold Against The Soul obviously qualifies, for its great production as much as anything. The Holy Bible I was a bit tentative about, but it's dark enough in theme and sound, even if a bit low on anthemic solos or whatever else metal means to you guys.
Generally, if there's a doubt either way, just keep them in - people won't vote for them if they don't think they count.
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:08 (fourteen years ago)
Great list! A few more nominations:
OM - PilgrimageGuns 'N Roses - The Spaghetti Incident?Kyuss - ...And the Circus Leaves Town
― Neil S, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:10 (fourteen years ago)
here comes the "Are OM metal?" spaghetti incident, are you serious?Noone will vote for that kyuss against the other 2 - you sure you want it in? it might cause a vote split.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:12 (fourteen years ago)
Skynyrd (and ZZ Top) are definitely hard rock, but i wouldn't exactly claim that either is heavy (aside from a track or two, of course).
― "enduring lack of street cred" (Ioannis), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
xp Denied!
― Neil S, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:13 (fourteen years ago)
Stick OM in there- certainly heavy enough IMO.
Re. GNR- I was actually thinking of GNR Lies (Spaghetti is indeed rubbish), so maybe put that in instead? Lies is a really good record..
Not bothered about Circus... too much, though I think "Spaceship Landing" is a monster.
― Neil S, Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:15 (fourteen years ago)
spaceship landing is wonderful (nip over to tracks thread)I'll add the Om Ok will add Lies.I'll put the kyuss in but hope it doesnt cause vote split

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 15:42 (fourteen years ago)
Captain Beyond are definitely hard rock, if Wishbone Ash count then they certainly do. I'd say Lynyrd Skynyrd & ZZ Top should be in too, definitely closer to hard rock than yer Allman Brothers type stuff.

Kerr, you seriously need to relax and stop gaming this poll before it even gets off the ground. If someone nominates something that someone strongly objects to, they'll tell you. Otherwise, I love that this list is getting more and more diverse all the time. You need to quit pulling your hair out over it.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:30 (fourteen years ago)
I just want to avoid people moaning when the results come in that "that shouldn't have been nominated". So i have to ask if people want to veto stuff now, as it will be too late by then.
Plus im getting moaned at on chatz that stuff on it shouldn't be on there but they wont post it here.I'm perfectly relaxed!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:34 (fourteen years ago)
If the people on Chatz are ilxors just tell them to bring it to the thread or be ignored. If not, it's none of their business. But one thing I don't get is your discounting of albums 'because it might split the vote'. So what? It's not a band poll, it's albums and tracks. If you like an album/track enough, you'll vote for it. If not, you won't.
― emil.y, Sunday, 11 July 2010 16:44 (fourteen years ago)
Oh I know, I was just reminding people that vote split might occur, I still added the albums. (and yes it's ilxors)

Are we lacking in any genres? 70s are very well covered, so is hair metal,bm,dm,power,alt/grunge and doom/stoner. V light on drone stuff but even as much as i love it, it doesn't really belong on a list outside of earth/sunn 0))) (if they even make it).

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 July 2010 18:28 (fourteen years ago)
(FWIW, I personally would definitely also include most punk rock and the heavier postpunk/alt/indie stuff like Husker Du or the Birthday Party or 90s Sonic Youth as 'heavy rock'. I don't see it as my decision to make though.)
― Sundar, Monday, 12 July 2010 19:17 (fourteen years ago)
I think, with this being ilm, they would then get all the votes and the actual metal/heavy rock wouldn't get in. We just need to draw a line somewhere. I love all those bands but I cant let them in. They just dont meet the criteria.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:20 (fourteen years ago)
I would say that any band with a notable VU influence don't count as heavy rock / metal, that's my personal line in the sand. So, no Sonic Youth, JAMC etc. Not really sure where the line between punk and metal is these days, or where it ever was in fact.
― A prog venn diagram for you to think about (Matt #2), Monday, 12 July 2010 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I do understand your reasoning on those strategic grounds, Kerr.
― Sundar, Monday, 12 July 2010 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
I know Zen Arcade could possibly fit within the parameters, but none of the others. But bob hates metal/heavy rock. So i'll trust his judgement and leave it out. The reason that black flag & bad brains stuff is in is because there is no doubt about the heavy rock influence there. But earlier stuff doesn't. But im sure they would get in a catch all rock poll if someone wishes to ever run one.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 12 July 2010 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't even thought about my ballot as I'm busy enough with this, so I cant believe someone did theirs already. But I guess most people have actually finished with their noms so they could make their ballot already.
I'm not sure , Bill. I thought i'd ask people on the thread what they wanted. I'd say 3 weeks was enough but I'll go with the majority of those who can be bothered to say what they want.

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 14 July 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago)
tbh I'm glad but surprised at a lack of nu-metal bar the obvious slipknot/deftones/korn/sepultura/soad. It really wasn't an albums genre was it (a bit like hair metal i guess). I suppose that is the surprising thing about metalcore getting so popular, no hit singles, yet sells shitloads.

lol jj, sepultura were the BIG influence on Korn though, plus sepultura supported nu-metal in the press, they took all the bands with them on tour (remember shite like coal chamber? blame fucking max) and anything from roots onwards fitted with it all and the nu-metal kids bought it all. But obv they have fuck all to do with linkin park and what nu-metal came.

― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:09 (fourteen years ago)
I think so, though considering there's nearly a thousand nominations (!!!) It might be REALLY REAllY hard to cut down a list to 50. I would be personally OK with a max of 100 but still min of 15, but I think John (who is tabulating) would much prefer 50 as 100 might be way too much work (i have no idea about the software, perhaps 50 or 100 wont make a difference, but I have NO IDEA so it's entirely up to him. If he wants 50 or 100 I'll go along with what he chooses. It's really really really good of John to volunteer, as it's totally beyond me, so I'd like to thank him for doing it. He is the guy who is making the poll happen and 100% thanks should be given in his direction.
So thanks John!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:14 (fourteen years ago)
No matter how big the master list gets, 50 is enough (and frankly, 40 is really probably enough) per ballot per person.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:18 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm totally fine with 50. But will leave it up to john to decide. 40 not enough though!

Danzig 4?? I thought everyone hated that.
Im not sure maggot brain qualifies as a heavy rock album, even if it is my favourite album of all time. Yes there's some heavy rock tracks on it but it's not really an out and out rock record like Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:54 (fourteen years ago)
Danzig 4 is just as good as the first 3. Anyone who thinks otherwise is not listening. It's all about John Christ and Chuck Biscuits.
― Nate Carson, Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:55 (fourteen years ago)
xp There were just over 100 ballots total, but some were albums-only, some were tracks-only, and some were sent separately by the same person. It's hard to say how many of each there were, but right at 104-106 if I had to guesstimate.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 July 2010 00:57 (fourteen years ago)

Either you include all heavy rock (including Nirvana and Linkin Park and whomever else operates in the loud guitar milieu) or you get random in your vetos which is what seems to be happening. Linkin Park is more hard rock than Pearl Jam, ZZ Top isn't really hard at all, and on and on. I don't think being broader is going to threaten the results - we'll still see plenty of Sabbath and MAiden and the like near the top.

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 15 July 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
Ending noms on a particular day generally means at the end of that day. I think you'll be fine starting votes on a Saturday, because I have no doubt you'll be constantly bumping up the voting thread to draw attention to it anyway.

I say let them in, early MSP is heavy rock influenced. but nothing post richey. 80s RHCP seems fair enough. KJ , alex in nyc would say werent metal or heavy rock or industrial, but they're heavy enough on a couple of albums to get in.
Like I said, we were stricter for albums. It's the tracks list that's dodgy.

Funkadelic doesn't belong. If Jay Z doesn't even get considered DESPITE ACTUALLY BEING ON A NU-METAL RECORD and you're vetoing a bunch of rock that's borderline, Funkadelic should be out too.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 16 July 2010 06:36 (fourteen years ago)
I don't care one way or the other. Kerr will vote for it, and maybe two or three other people, but I don't see it making the final results anyway. And if they do? Well, hot dog! ILM continues to be very ILM-y.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 16 July 2010 07:41 (fourteen years ago)
Well that'd be my attitude too, but a bunch of stuff I like keeps getting kicked off for being too poppy or whatever. I want a broad list, but if that just means including one or two house favourites.

― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
If people want a Funkadelic album vetoed then it shall be vetoed. Same goes for any "borderline album".
What do you object to?

Everyone ok with voting finishing 11.59pm UK time August 2nd? Or would you prefer the 9th?It has to be one of those dates so john has nearly a week to do the tabulations for the tracks results to get it ready for start the following monday, and then the albums results the following monday.
I think the 2nd of August is enough, as previous polls usually get most votes the 1st 2 days and last 2 days. And if you're wondering why a monday, it's just so that the final day of voting falls on a workday, whilst giving john the maximum time to tabulate the results.

I think voting should finish at the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2010.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! UR ILX POLL IS STARTING LOL

(j/k I think August 2 is fine!)
I somehow missed one of my favorite live albums ever (and my favorite by this band):
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 16 July 2010 18:06 (fourteen years ago)
Im not sure I can allow it, after all it would mean reposting the albums list..
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:07 (fourteen years ago)
You need to fix Slough Feg anyways - one is under "Lord Weird..." while the others are under "The Lord Weird..."
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 16 July 2010 19:10 (fourteen years ago)
Standing on the Verge is certainly a "Heavy Rock" album, as is Maggot Brain.
― Chicago to Philadelphia: "Suck It" (Bill Magill), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:11 (fourteen years ago)
I think more say yes than no to maggot brain so I'll have to let it in then. But Dont blame me folks, I said no to one of my fave albums ever but got outvoted.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:15 (fourteen years ago)
btw when I post the updated list regularly, it is usually because I have added nominations, and it is easier for me to add the full list, plus it helps people checking what to nominate. Trolling helps noone.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago)
That's not trolling. That's joekz.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 16 July 2010 19:27 (fourteen years ago)
And I shall be reposting it again soon once jeff gives me his nominations via aim.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:27 (fourteen years ago)
skot was trolling, he has no interest in this poll.
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:31 (fourteen years ago)
I think these things stretch on for ungodly amounts of time anyway so I think August 2nd is long enough. If someone can't put together a list to vote for in 3 weeks... well maybe they shouldn't bother themselves with this poll anyway.
― Green Manalishi (Viceroy), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:33 (fourteen years ago)
my ballot is ready. I'm not voting in the tracks poll.
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 16 July 2010 19:43 (fourteen years ago)
Thanks Viceroy, i think you and ilxor are right.xpIm amazed anyone has a list already but awesome, EZ! Hopefully I'll get the voting threads up soon after midnight.
Why not voting in the tracks poll if i may ask?
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:50 (fourteen years ago)
PS EZ, please check your email
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:54 (fourteen years ago)
Hard rock and metal has always been an album oriented thing for me; I might have some songs I like more than others, but I view it as a whole piece. With lots of other genres I'm the other way 'round.
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 16 July 2010 19:55 (fourteen years ago)
Sure that's fine. But if you want to sling a ballot my way if you have some spare time please do!
― pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 16 July 2010 19:59 (fourteen years ago)
Jeff has nominated a lot of stuff that has been missed, he will be adding to it later. Thanks jeff! Here is what we have so far!
