what's the single worst solo album by either group?

in the name of science, you would have to poll all the individual members' worst, then pit them against each other in a grudge match

Moshy Star (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

has anyone listened to moe tucker's solo albums?

iatee, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

YES! but not all of them

Playin Possum is amusing

Moshy Star (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:51 (fifteen years ago)

i've listened to most of them too. not essential or anything, but kind of cool slices of oddball DIY action.

tylerw, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

allmusic gives that 4.5 stars? xp

iatee, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

lol I wouldn't rate it THAT high. I mean all the playing on it is totally amateurish and the production is lo-fi to the core, but it is endearing in that way that only Mo Tucker can be.

I haven't heard all of McCartney's solo albums though, that would be a chore. Pretty sure I've heard all of George and John's and most of Ringo's (early covers album and anything post-70s excepted). Haven't heard all of Cale's stuff either, there's so much.

Moshy Star (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago)

everything cale did up to caribbean sunset is absolutely worth hearing

iatee, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:58 (fifteen years ago)

I've heard a bunch, almost all the 70s stuff I think. I borrowed all of them at once from a friend on vinyl and they kinda run together in my mind

Moshy Star (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 20:59 (fifteen years ago)

i'd vote vu solo over beatles solo, if only because of Paris 1919.

went with the Beatles (#3 Prince) in the end

was trying to judge based on which has the most unlistenable low-point in their catalog (Long and Winding Road vs. European Son?) but eventually just went with the Beatles for breadth and technical virtuosity. could easily have gone for the Velvets tho

Moshy Star (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 21:06 (fifteen years ago)

I don't get what people don't like about european son

VU (Prince)

orakle-krake (Gukbe), Tuesday, 27 July 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)

Worst solo Beatles album is a tough call, but I have to go with Ringo's Stop and Smell the Roses.

Mexico, camp, horns, Zappa, Mr. Bungle (Matos W.K.), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 03:16 (fifteen years ago)

beatles-vu is a way easier call for me in the beatles' favor than beatles-prince would have been. i probably would've repped prince. i mean, much love for the velvets, but quality-wise it's a close call and quantity-wise i just don't see how they touch the beatles' output and range. but prince i think is one of a few people who can go head to head with the beatles on all counts, and since he was my era i'm inclined toward him overall.
