Kim's one of the most underrated songwriters/lyricists ever...I used to carry the lyrics for this album (often misheard with missing parts, printed off of noaloha.com) around with me in my bookbag in high school...

They played Hoverin and I Am Decided when I saw them last summer.

the way that Full on Idle is all just weird ranting, then all of a sudden we're on a rowboat and Kim's imagining something sinister with a violin and bow...genius.

Title TK bummed me out a little bit with the lyrics inset, but it's still a v. good record...I really like "Off You", "T&T" (surf instrumental outtake from Marquee Moon), "Too Alive", and "The She" off that album...

off you is just the most destroyed i have, like, ever felt

and yes too alive is something else - almost feels like it could be on this album.

saul wright, I love this album lots too. Too Alive does indeed sound like it could be on Pacer, which is prolley why I like it so much.

Pacer b/c it is such a pretty little pop gem & pretty much encapsulates everything I love about Kim's songwriting. This album will hence be slated for reevaluation.. I was pretty burnt out on the whole lo-fi thing by the time it came out & probably never gave it its proper due.

is it really a lo-fi record, though? maybe not as produced as Last Splash, but it definitely doesn't sound like Bee Thousand or anything. Whatevs, glad to see the love for this record here. I remember when it came out, no one seemed to care! But it is very nice. "Bragging Party" is probably my fave. Am I dreaming or was there like a demo version of that song on a fan club 7-inch or something? I think my friend had it.

I considered the album lo-fi, in that it sounded like it was recorded over the course of an afternoon, in someone's basement somewhere, on a Tascam 4-track cassette joint.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I had a 2 week period where I thought Pacer > all other Breeders, but that's not true. It is way up there though.

But yeah, Safari EP, man. Just the sound of that thing is so awesome. I wish more songs sounded like "Safari."

i like the dirty,basic and raw sound of Pacer much more than the calculated, more professional sound of The Breeders

I was not expecting this thread to get so many posts. I'm surprised -- in a good way. I thought this album was forgotten.

i feel like i've asked this on another breeders thread - but i remember reading that the songs from this album *were* recorded in some form or another by the breeders ... is that true? are their versions on bootleg? not that i'd expect it to sound radically different.

um...i'm not sure...i think kim & jim played most of the instruments on this...I seem to remember Kim saying something about Josephine played on a couple songs but they kind of bored her, and she hated Dayton etc....

Kelley might have played on a couple things but I don't think she had much of a hand in things...

Coincidentally, I was just looking for an old photo in a box and came across my one issue of Breeders Digest that came with the Live in Stockholm cdep. Is this online as a pdf anywhere? Maybe I should make one.

I downloaded it online but I don't know if it can be found anymore...that's a pretty cool live album though...

I just remembered I used to have a stack of those metal flake blue Breeders bumper stickers too. Dammit! If I knew where they were now, I'd save a couple for myself and sell the rest on ebay for a tiny fortune. :(

yeah, listened this morning and this album is front-to-back awesome. i think for me this is between mom's drunk, bragging party, and breaking the split screen. love the droniness of those tracks.

I listened to this record last weekend – I had to dig it out of my closet. Nothing great: it's not even as good as a Breeders album. I voted for "I Am Decided."

agree w/ mizzell 100% irt the awesome droniness of this record. Alfred this is like Is This It?'s drunken aunt: funnier, spacier, weirder, and can absolutely be counted on to call bullshit on the other relatives at all family gatherings in the most entertaining way possible.

such an awesome album, I love the 1-2 pop punch of "She's a Girl" and "Dedicated" at the end especially. Voted for the latter.
