Bruno Mars, a former Hawaii child entertainer and rising music industry star, was arrested and released on cocaine-related charges in Las Vegas, police said.
Mars, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, was detained in the bathroom of a Hard Rock Hotel Casino by hotel security about 2:00 a.m. Sunday, according to a report in the Las Vegas-Review Journal. Las Vegas police said Hernandez was in possession of 2.6 grams of "white powdery substance" believed to be cocaine. He was booked on cocaine possession charges and released a few hours later on his recognizance.
Mars, 24, is known for singing and for co-writing the hits "Nothin' On You" by B.o.B and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy. He also co-wrote "Right Round" by Flo Rida. Earlier this month, the record label Elektra announced his tune "Just the Way You Are" was the most downloaded song on iTunes.
He performed a medley of songs on MTV's Video Music Awards earlier this month with B.o.B. and Hayley Williams of Paramore.
He headlined a show at the Hard Rock Saturday night.
Mars, Roosevelt High School graduate, performed in many local venues as a youth, starting as an Elvis impersonator at age 4. As a teenager, he performed as Michael Jackson at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel. Mars moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue his entertainment career.

i am enjoying this saga of bruno mars
― flaccid house (The Reverend), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)
On the title of the album, Mars said, "I’m a big fan of doo-wop music. ... That’s what you call your girl, your "doo-wop." ... On this album, I have records that women are going to relate to and men are going to relate to. So doo-wops are for the girls, and hooligans are for the guys."[6] In addition, he told 4Music, "It explains the two sides of me. Doo-wop is a special form of music I grew up on. It's straight to the point, very simple. I have songs like that. ... I have that simple, romantic side of me but I'm also just a young, regular dude and that's like the hooligan side!"[7]

“I can’t believe that’s my past,” Mr. Mars said in an interview before his first solo New York performance, a sold-out show at the Bowery Ballroom in late August. “I wish I could tell you me and my rock band were traveling around, strung out. No, we were a family band. Straight Partridge Family.”

OK Fine, then his career may be at halt for some time. Lady Gaga, Robyn and even David Guetta all have a much more positive influence on current chartpop than Bruno Mars does with his way too compressed long-bassnotes-and-drummer-going-bananas-like-crazy-style, so that is probably just a good thing.

"treasure" is really good although it doesn't sound like a radio hit. his voice still sounds like someone trying to impress judges on "american idol" which kinda ruins it for me, but there's shockingly good moments on this album. i wish the chorus of "locked out of heaven" was more rewarding. the verses are great though.

I saw Bruno Mars live a few weeks ago and he was great. I can't hate.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:19 (twelve years ago)
yeah he's a good fit, he could do soul/mj covers and it would be fine
― Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)
you only need a handful of recognizable tracks really
The Stones only did 3 songs, and most of the others do 4.
― A Made Man In The Mellow Mafia (C. Grisso/McCain), Saturday, 7 September 2013 22:27 (twelve years ago)
yeah, he has five #1s, he could a medley of shortened versions of all them and easily fill the 15 minute slot.

Super Bowl halftime show, huh?
― sleeve, Friday, 31 January 2014 18:59 (twelve years ago)
Anecdotal evidence has it that people were largely impressed. He's no one I listen to on purpose, but when I saw him last year, it was basically exactly like the halftime show, but for 90 minutes or whatever. He and his band are really good on stage. Why were the Chili Peppers there at all?

He was good on the drums. I still like nothing about his music but I came away very very impressed by him as a performer.
― Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Monday, 3 February 2014 15:25 (twelve years ago)

Anthony Keidis. I so would. Then, now, and always.
I still have the hots for Anthony Kiedis...even in a pair of leggings I would probably wear.

But yes Bruno is a great live performer (I'm just not wowed by his songs).

Didn't know he played drums. Dug that. Dug most of his set, actually. But ugh, fuck the fucking RHCPs and their awful, fundamentally unfunky drummer.
Actually, "unfunky" is too kind. He's negative-funky.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 3 February 2014 16:07 (twelve years ago)
I was surprised that I did recognize a couple of BM's tunes from hearing out there in the ether, he's def a good performer/entertainer but an accurate James Brown impression isn't exactly artistic greatness, but he was like fine.
The switch over to RHCP was just weird. I am happy to report my social media feeds erupted into a bunch of Fishbone jokes and it continued when I went over to my local p-word bar afterward.

Andy Gill (?!) produced their first.
my CD copy of Entertainment! has liner notes by Flea which iirc consist mostly in him calling The Edge a piece of shit for never acknowledging the influence of Andy Gill on his guitar playing.
― Merdeyeux, Monday, 3 February 2014 17:11 (twelve years ago)
which is absurd cuz edge has frequently when asked his guitar influences listed gill, levene, and verlaine. i can remember rolling stone doing some interview w/ him where the writer kept trying to get him to talk about eric clapton and edge politely pointing out he was too young for clapton really and generally tried to copy go4, etc as a kid.
― balls, Monday, 3 February 2014 17:15 (twelve years ago)
