Jump's beat is just less interesting to me - oh look two super-overused samples (even at the time) vs. Jump Around's weird intro and squealing bleats come the fuck on

I spent a very fruitful summer driving a van for a summer school program for troubled teens where we bonded over a mixtape I had that had "Jump Around" on it; I often played this song on repeat (and, because of the way the mix went, I inadvertently got a bunch of surly suburban MN teens into 808 State, so win-win).

Like choosing between "Ticket to Ride" and "Eight Days a Week." "Jump Around" by a millimetre at the finish line. (I know it doesn't have "jump" in the title, but "O.P.P." would make for a good three-way.)

On the minus side, that experience inextricably linked "Jump Around" in my mind with revelations of teen pregnancy, which is kind of a bummer.

My main memory of "Jump Around" is, er, jumping around like a maniac on the dancefloor with a bunch of crazy Norwegian students.

I know all the words to "Jump Around".
I know none for "Jump".

"Jump Around" has cornball similes, which were not uncommon at the time, but still no less annoying (play me out as if my name was Sega, bah).
"Jump", well its not exactly Afrikaa Bambaata.

Both have killer beats, with the slight nod to "Jump".

"Jump" is more direct, whereas "Jump Around" is more indecisive. Does this mean I can't jump while stationery, I have to move around? Too confusing.

Totally Krossed Out is better than the borefest that is Ho@'s debut...sans "I Missed the Bus".

Jump is pretty great for what it is. Jump Around barely wins & only bcz of the Bob & Earl nod and because it tells us to jump twenty-three times per chorus. Kris Kross only tells us twelve times.

Beats seem equally matched to me.

had an alt-rock station on today and they threw on "Jump Around" and even though it sounded great i just got annoyed at how sketchy it is that such a typical early '90s rap song gets played on those stations above all other typical early '90s rap songs for virtually no other reason than that it's a bunch of white dudes.

One of the more amusing things where I am in Toronto was how the local modern-rock station first started playing the Beastie Boys around 2005 or so; when Licensed to Ill was actually on the charts, their year-end list looked like this.

Actually, a little too quick to post--I see they had Run-DMC on there...and maybe Licensed to Ill was more '87, come to think of it. Will need to investigate this potentially radioactive scandal further.

Totally Krossed Out was one of the first albums I owned on CD. If I'd had it on tape I probably would have worn it out. RIP Chris :(

This shouldn't be surprising, but it always catches me a little short anyway. Two out of my class of 24 kids had heard about this or knew anything about Kris Kross or "Jump." (One girl mentioned a current hip-hop group that wears their clothes backwards.) With 12-year-olds, I may just as well have been talking about Danny & the Juniors. They did seem to really enjoy "Jump," though.
