i absolutely adore the "fall for your type" and "there goes my baby" beats as used on the angel haze mixtape but never connected with either original

otoh the radio edit of "bring it back" is hilarious & amazing since the song becomes 20% female orgasm noises

"best night of my life" & "fall for your type" are both decent songs that i'd let play out on the radio but they're just kinda... there

"bring it back" is amazing, better than "make it rain" imo -- i wish there was a new travis porter single every other week cuz their songs sorta suffer on their mixtapes cuz everything is so simple & similar but in the context of the radio that simplicity & nonchalance really stands out

i had to take a cab to the hospital this morning and "pretty girl rock" coming on the radio really took the edge off that

i will admit that my opinion of "pretty girl rock" has been permanently ruined by the fact that i only hear the kanye remix, which is just horrifying -- it's like if i was handed a once perfectly fine gallon of milk that someone had pissed in -- that said i still do think that the original is pretty corny

& "roll up" is my #1 windows down jam of the year

"Sure Thing" is such a lovely thing.

as much as I like "Bring It Back," "Make It Rain" just felt very nothing to me, like OK take a phrase that's already overexposed and do a song with a less catchy hook than the song Lil Wayne did with that title years ago

"cupid" is polow's best production in a while, love the guitar on it

yeah i kind of duped myself into liking him a couple years ago with 'deeper than rap' which i thought was a solid album with a couple songs i loved, but i basically hate everything he does at this point.

yeah R&B radio has been more tolerable the last few weeks than it'd been for a while before that

ross has improved considerably as a rapper and he also cultivates a very dope production aesthetic

the estelle/ross single is great but p much entirely for estelle and the beat - remove ross and it'd be even better

i was the first person to post abt this song on ilx iirc (in praise of it) -- ive also posted positively about yacht club, super high & its remix, etc. i said i thought that his most recent album wasnt as interesting as the one before bcuz that was the record where he seemed to really have stepped his game up & this one lacked the surprise

ross has made some great songs, hes basically a solid pop rapper. 'stepping up his game' basically means trying hard enough that he sounds engaged rather than bored or generic so that the wider song can work its hook/beat powers -- all he has to do is seem like hes trying. hes not got much to say, hes not a great rapper by any meaningful standard -- its just that, by pure effect of trying, he does the bare minimum required to make some really dope songs

"all of the lights" is a massive hook -- tho big sean on the remix has the worst verse of the year i think

its one of those songs where the opening notes make you go, "i know this, its so dope, what is it" & then youre like, weird its from that wack kanye album, and you realize you didnt fuck with it because its song title + "feat.s" was so long you were like, skip

his voice ain't what it used to be but i'm pretty sure he didn't suddenly start sounding like a raspy R&B singer after 40 years of sounding like Elton John. i'm guessing it's one of the people credited in the liners that i haven't heard of, Alvin Fields or Ken Lewis.

I don't think it sounds like an R&B singer. It sounds like an old white dude to me. But I didn't know there were other singers credited, so who knows.
