^ These are all the tracks and albums we nominated. I tried to catch any doubles, but if there's something I missed then please mention it in the thread. We'll make a note of it and wait for votes to roll in to address the problem.

The procedure is simple: enter your tracks and album ballots (up to 25 items on each), one item per line, in the appropriate fields below. You can choose one of three ballot types, which determine how points are allocated to each item you vote for:

(1) Weighted: The first item on your ballot receives 50 points, the second receives 48 points, and so on, until the 25th item receives 2 points.

(2) Unweighted: Each item on your ballot receives 26 points.

(3) Mixed: To submit a mixed ballot, you must divide your ballot in two with an extra blank line. The upper portion of the ballot will be treated as weighted, with the first item receiving 50 points, and so on. The lower portion will be treated as unweighted, in that all items will receive the same number of points. The score allocated to items in the unweighted portion is calculated as 26 minus the number of items in the weighted portion (this is so that any weighted, unweighted or mixed ballot consisting of 25 items will allocate a total of exactly 650 points).

Feel free to campaign in this thread, but if you wish to accompany your campaign with youtube embeds there's a thread for that.

Vote and have fun. Polls close midnight NYC time January 20th. That's 5am January 21st for Britishes and 9pm on the 20th for those 'mercans on the left coast. If you're somewhere else on the planet, please consult a time zone chart. After seandalai tabulates the results, we'll start with the tracks countdown the following Monday and then the albums countdown the Monday after that.

This is the first year in a long time where I really feel like I don't know/care enough to even have a personal top 10 list. (Just been busy with other things, is all.) But my lack of timeliness in nominating won't prevent me from opining that Justin Vivian Bond's album was totally slept on everywhere this year. If I had a top 10, it would be high on it.

I also assumed "In Dust" was nominated, even submitted it on my ballot. Only realised it was missing when I ran the results script and got an error message, had to sub in another album instead.

We could do retrospective nominations I guess if something obvious was overlooked but it's not something I'm keen on in general.

Was thinking that maybe next year the nominations process could be more liberal - not going as far as unlimited nominations, the list must still be readable - but upping the number of noms per person or preloading the list with e.g. all the FACT/Pitchfork/Wire/etc end-of-year charts. Seems better to err on the side of inclusiveness than exclusiveness.

I have cast my votes already. There are two albums that are really enchanting me right now. Dro Carey-Journey With The Heavy and Total Control-Henge Beat. They are both 2011 releases that would have deffo made my list had I bought them earlier

Ugh, just going through the tracks now. I wish they weren't in tables, I usually like to C&P the whole list into notepad and then delete stuff, whittling down until I get my final list. But it's no big deal really. My tracks list is usually not that well thought out anyway, and I compiled my albums list without needing the big one.

Email address is mostly so I can contact you if you vote for an album three times or vote for something that wasn't nominated, so you can send me a corrected ballot. I don't check whether anyone is a "real poster".

for the metal poll that's why i like to use email for voting so i know its from who it says its from. Of course in reality its nothing of the sort but what can you do.

plus if i didnt allow lurkers to vote id be too scared we only get 10 votes. but since noone ever includes their usernames anyway i dont know who is a lurker or poster!

I don't think so. I do google our poll every year to see but nothings come up. I think our voters are genuine ilm lurkers because they vote every poll. And there's no way they're coming from an actual bands board as they dont all vote for the same bandas their #1 or all have the same bands in their top 10 or anything. Nothing to suggest theyre from anywhere but ilm. It's not like the ballots are all doom or all bm or all dm. Tbh they look like ilm ballots - crazy mixed up. Which makes for interesting results - just like the big eoy poll.

the biggest threat to the results is by me messing uploading to needle. but luckily i have glenn to double check the ballots with it. twice ive missed the top of 2 voters ballots while copying and pasting and had to redo it. (i noticed it myself so im getting better) But once ive got into the swing of things again i generally get it right. Im just glad Glenn is here to do the hard stuff

there's a lot of people out there who love reading ilm but are just too intimidated to post. Then when posters saying things like "WTF WHO VOTED FOR THAT" it's no surprise they're reluctant to post.

Remember a few people said in one of the eoy polls that they didn't vote animal collective or something similar because of the slagging they would take.

i dunno there will ALWAYS be a lot of lurkers in general but just strikes me as funny that there'd be a cabal of really dedicated fans of underground metal who just read the threads and vote in every poll but never post.

when i post i never think about lurkers. Then comes polltime and I realise how many there are. And when stet says how many registered users there are and how many of them lurk my mind is BLOWN.

Some dude i just wish more regulars voted. Everyone is welcome to nominate and vote. If there's 10 albums you like in the nominations spreadsheet then you should vote - forget about what hardcore purists think. Just go for it. That includes anyone on ilm. You dont need to read the rolling metal thread. its a poll for all of ilx.
The reason we run it is to introduce stuff to people who probably are unaware of most of it. Every year we all discover new albums because of it. One thing the poll isnt , is 100 albums of extreme metal only 10 people have bought. There's something for everyone usually.

It's fun introducing ilxors to good albums they may otherwise have missed out on. that's why i do the large countdowns. its not really about the numbered placings for me. I feel that the lesser known albums deserve their 15 mins of fame as much as the albums everyones heard.

Tracks so much more difficult than albums this year.

Usually it's the albums poll that throws up a load of curveballs and surprises whereas the tracks poll is relatively predictable, this year it almost feels the other way round. I can think of very few tracks that are absolute bankers for the list, which should make for a fun countdown.

Much more enthusiastic about tracks this year, and will be fascinated to see what does really well.

Albums are generally less easy to campaign for, right? Tracks are instant. Albums poll is always more surprising to me, because the best talk is after the voting when all these things I haven't listened to show up in the countdown.

Can I get a mod to change the thread title from January 20th, 2011 to 2012? It might be confusing people.

The way I vote is I CTRL-V everything into a spreadsheet, then go down the list marking anything I've heard of. Sort it so everything I've heard is grouped together. Then go down that list marking everything between 1-9 depending on how much I like each one. Sort that. Then start making fine adjustments.

the best part about going through the tracks list for me is investigating/youtubing stuff I haven't heard of

JUNE TABOR has a new album out this year?! Her voice sounds great! Man I love this lady.

June Tabor is a great singer, but I am a terrible listener who wants everything she does to sound like "No Man's Land." I saw her live once and wasn't really into the type of songs she was singing. But I'd like to like her more.

I just like hearing how her voice has changed (or not changed!). I like when she sings unaccompanied best.

Email address is mostly so I can contact you if you vote for an album three times or vote for something that wasn't nominated, so you can send me a corrected ballot. I don't check whether anyone is a "real poster".
