i was under the impression that all of ILM hates Frank Turner.
not that anyone cares what the ILM hivemind thinks ..
BMG Chrysalis has announced that it has agreed a new publishing deal with indie-folk singer-songwriter Frank Turner. The contract was apparently signed after something of a biding war, as Turner prepares to play his biggest show to date, headlining Wembley Arena next month.
Says BMG Chrysalis UK VP of A&R Ben Bodie: "This is a significant signing of an artist who is clearly on the verge of a major breakthrough. If you look at what is happening in the album market, it's all about proper artists with real songs. Frank is a real contemporary artist, an exceptional songwriter with a unique vision all his own".

I actually don't mind Barry Manilow either, just couldn't find any evidence that anyone here liked him. I kind of miss the days when, for better or worse, songs like "Can't Smile Without You" routinely worked their way to the top of the charts. I also miss real advertising jingles, instead of co-opting a popular song for your TV commercial.

Millionaires?
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)
I liked "voodoo" in high school, for whatever it's worth. That first Godsmack record isn't terrible, or at least I don't remember it being so – I haven't listened to it in years.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)
Also, I already have all of those on CD except Believe (which is a terrible album even by Disturbed standards), Scott.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)
sweet.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:33 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah but the chorus is literally "vooooodooooo vooooodooooo voooooodoooo VOOO-DOOO"
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:34 (thirteen years ago)
But you're right, those were probably meant to be heard on 140 gram vinyl.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:34 (thirteen years ago)
and, for the record, i don't hate disturbed, i just can't imagine wanting to listen to them. ever. wait, that sounds like i hate them...i really don't hate them. they just aren't, uh, my thing.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:38 (thirteen years ago)
Hoobastank.
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:38 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, I still like "Voodoo." It's got a cool Alice in Chains-Meets-Roky Erickson (although obviously not as good as either of those) vibe.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:39 (thirteen years ago)
i like some godsmack songs!

POD! That's a terrible band.
"All For One All For Love" by Bryan Adams Rod Stewart and Sting

― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:42 (thirteen years ago)
i honestly think Bush were the biggest waste of time in rock of the last 20 years or so. i love derivative music, so its hard to make me hate your music if you are a rip-off artist, but they were, like, offensively derivative. they made stone temple pilots look like friggin' geniuses. plus, there are no worse lyrics in all of rock. none. i doubt even hoobastank could have had worse lyrics than bush. and i have studied bush's lyrics extensively! i've long been fascinated by how batshit nonsensical their songs are.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:43 (thirteen years ago)
"Swallowed" is good though.
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:44 (thirteen years ago)
they called themselves BUSH
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:45 (thirteen years ago)

the chorus in "Come Down" is pretty great.

― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)
Awful!
Is Bush worse than Sponge?
no they weren't Fugazi/Brainiac levels of weirdness/originality but I hear them more as a pop group disguised as rock, and i think Bush did pretty well with their first few radio singles
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:49 (thirteen years ago)
You mean jingles.
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:50 (thirteen years ago)

Sponge's Wax Ecstatic is respectably weird.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:50 (thirteen years ago)
Live is infinitely more offensive than Bush.
― billstevejim, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:51 (thirteen years ago)
they are both pretty offensive. i'd probably rather watch a live video though just for the circus geek trainwreck appeal.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:51 (thirteen years ago)
One of my high school friends like really really really really loved Live. He also recently posted on Facebook that he's super excited for the Counting Crows reunion shows.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

I can't believe somebody upthread was defending Creed. Creed! CREED! What is wrong with people?
I would nominate Limp Bizkit, but I know that they have defenders on here. Horribly misguided defenders.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:55 (thirteen years ago)
The Alarm were kind of the first U2-wannabe band that fell flat a lot. and there doesn't seem to be an end to people grasping for that holy brass ring/halo and most of them fucking suck. arcade fire! they do it too. all those indie bands with 15 people in them. they all suck.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:55 (thirteen years ago)
ICP has to be the winner here, right?
― SeanWayne, Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:55 (thirteen years ago)
Although I guess I was just defending Godsmack and Disturbed. What is wrong with ME?
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:56 (thirteen years ago)
I mean, there's one Limp Bizkit song I like ("Rearranged"), but I still hate them. So I don't know, I don't think liking an individual song here or there necessarily counts against the hatred.
― NWOBHamster (J3ff T.), Wednesday, 7 March 2012 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

After a concert at The Palazzo in Las Vegas in June 2009, Live announced that the band would take a two-year "hiatus" to work on other projects. Kowalczyk recorded his solo album Alive and the other band members formed a group with Kevin Martin and Sean Hennessy of Candlebox called The Gracious Few.[14] That band proceeded to record a self-titled debut album in California for release in September 2010.On November 30, 2009, Taylor revealed that the "hiatus" was more likely a permanent split.[15] He alleged that the reasons for the break-up included Kowalczyk's demand of a $100,000 "lead singer bonus" at the 2009 Pinkpop Festival and a 2005 contract making Kowalczyk the sole signatory of Live's Black Coffee Publishing company without the knowledge of the rest of the band.[15] These sentiments were conveyed in an e-mail to fans from the band (minus Kowalczyk) via the mailing list at FriendsofLive.com and on Chad Taylor's official blog. Taylor did, however, leave open the possibility of Live re-forming with a new vocalist. At the end of May 2010, the other three members of Live filed a lawsuit against Kowalczyk and their former business manager in the New York State Supreme Court.[16] Kowalczyk was asked about the lawsuit in a September 2010 interview but declined to elaborate, saying, "There is a (court) case that is pending, which is why I really don't want to get into it."[16] In June 2011, Kowalczyk told The Salt Lake Tribune, "I had simply come to the end of a chapter in my life and wanted to spread my wings and move beyond what I had been doing, in the same way, for almost 20 years. As far as the allegations that were leveled at me and purported as the reason for the breakup, they were all absolutely untrue. I have no plans to work with those individuals again. The spirit of Live is alive and well in my performances and my new material."[7]

Threads that are about white dudes playing the blues seems to historically bring out the razors on ILM. I think the venom level and total weird random fandom brawls don't happen anywhere near as much now that you got to register for the site. I know that crazy the Stevie Ray Vaughn thread that got locked up and I think even that multi-thousand post Dave Matthews thread got a lot of live and at times laughs from fans of the artists stumbling upon it and putting their 2 cents in from search engines. There are also alot of UK people that have reasons to hate Eric Clapton other than his shite music since the early 70s that most people in the US haven't heard about.

The first 4 Bon Jovi records are good to great, with amazing singles. Don't care what happened later, don't understand hating the fun stuff.

I've only heard two or three tunes by Kenny G, but I thought they were okay. Certainly not as bad as his reputation would suggest.

Kenny G kinda reminds me of Jan Garbarek tbrr
Kenny G sounds like Jan Garbarek might have done if he got a bit lazy and thought earning a lot of money easily would be nicer than having to come up with new artistic ideas all the time.
