Bands that EVERYONE hates

Okay, this should be easier...right?

kinski (kinski), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah it was as I recall. (Actually more difficult I'd guess is to find bands only one person here really likes.)

Tom (Groke), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know ...

I think Manilow is all I can come up with - and even he is the Steve Forbert of this thread...

Does anyone like Stryper?

dave225 (Dave225), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:04 (twenty-three years ago)

(Actually more difficult I'd guess is to find bands only one person here really likes.)

That sounds like a challenge. I like Mansun *hits the ground*

kinski (kinski), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone HAS to hate Kenny G, right?

kinski (kinski), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Does anyone like Stryper?

Ned Raggett to thread! Or not.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

''Everyone HAS to hate Kenny G, right?''

is that a BAND tho'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Good point. Though I'm sure his backing band suck ass.

kinski (kinski), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i luv manilow's "can't smile without you" as i've stated elsewhere. can't really see what there is to hate about him. placebo on the other hand...

btw, is this just bands or do singers count? if they do then i challenge anyone to defend alanis morishite (the play on words is more because i can't stand to write her name than for any comedic value).

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I save us all and delete this? Please? Thankyou.

Graham (graham), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone rising up for Tom Cochrane band? Or Sk*wdriver? [googlers need not apply]

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I save us all and delete this? Please? Thankyou.

the thread or the post?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

delete Ilxor Graham, please.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 20 September 2002 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't hate Kenny G as I only ever encounter him in this context (Americans giving out about him) - he has a pretty low profile over here.

And you can;t hate Copacabana.

Howsabout Chris de Burgh?

tigerclawskank, Friday, 20 September 2002 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Gale to thread!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

i quite like "a spaceman came travelling" (different standards apply when it's christmas)

will the Toploader fan please stand up?

adam b (adam b), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Even toploader's name is kinda hateful since it refers to a selfishly rolled joint where all the stuff is in the top. Its almost like calling yerself The Wankers.

Do Toploader have any songs other than their hit which is a cover version?

tigerclawskank, Friday, 20 September 2002 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Do Toploader have any songs other than their hit which is a cover version?

Yes. But you're better off not knowing this.

adam b (adam b), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:38 (twenty-three years ago)

FINGER ON THE TRIGGER NOODLES.

Graham (graham), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd be happy if this thread were deleted. I wouldn't hate anyone if it wasn't.

Jeff W (Jeff W), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

How can Graham possibly resist the diabolical urge to push the button that could erase this very existence? Will his tortured mind give in to its uncontrollable desires?
Can he resist the temptation to push the button that, even now, beckons him even closer? Will he succumb to the maddening urge to eradicate ilXor history? At the MERE...PUSH...of a SINGLE...BUTTON! The beeyootiful SHINY button! The jolly CANDY-LIKE button! Will he hold out, folks? CAN he hold out?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Atomic Kitten.

(haha just kidding don't hate me don't kill ilm)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

let's just confirm toploader and kill the thread?

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

"classics in the key of g" does feature kenny ok, but some of these _are_ "classics" (they have "g force") -- cut kenny out of the equation and you have music in the 7th, the ultimate key (i mean at least they're not in c#)

george gosset (gegoss), Friday, 20 September 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Manilow is all I can come up with
TS: Barry Manilow vs Neil Diamand vs Neil Sedaka vs Paul Anka, FITE!
Preferably to the death.

Did anyone here grow to actually LIKE Pat Boone for his metal record?

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Friday, 20 September 2002 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Ladies and gentlemen, a big round of applause for The Beautiful South!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 20 September 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned Raggett to thread! Or not.

Indeed, not. You sick fuck.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 20 September 2002 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Not necessarily "bands", but:
Hanson
The Kelly Family
P. Diddy
Phil Collins
Modern Talking
Heino
Moby
Scooter

and indeed, Stryper.

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Friday, 20 September 2002 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I have Hanson's CD single of "Mmmm Bop" and like it.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 20 September 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

A hair-metal band that Ned isn't leaping to defend? SHOCK-HORROR! Next you'll be dissing Night Ranger!

(Yes, I am a bastard.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 September 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no less than THREE friends with otherwise very good taste in music who LOVE the Beautiful South. Two of them are Canadian, which excuses them somewhat, and the other one went to school in Hull so that's her excuse, but regardless.

I *LOVE* Hanson. They played MMM-Bop at Mother the other night and the crowd went wild, etc.

kate, Friday, 20 September 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The first Beautiful South album is great, BTW.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 September 2002 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Custos: Diamond is NOTHING LIKE the others.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 20 September 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

jellyfish ?

asia ?

the eagles ?

beat happening ?

mike (ro)bott, Friday, 20 September 2002 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Primal Scream. Is this right?

DavidM (DavidM), Friday, 20 September 2002 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

The Beautiful South are fantastic, of course.

DavidM (DavidM), Friday, 20 September 2002 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Neil Diamond is a great songwriter if less than stellar performer; Paul Anka responsible for English version of "My Way" if I remember correctly (or was that frankie Avalon?); "MMMBop" rules and so do Primal Scream (at least they used to...); The Eagles and The Beautiful South had their moments..

Daniel_Rf, Friday, 20 September 2002 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Simply being responsible for the English lyrics to "My Way" doesn't save Paul Anka. Nope.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 20 September 2002 21:58 (twenty-three years ago)

"Mmmm Bop" aside, don't you just want to leap at those brats and strangle them one by one? No? Just the little kid then?

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Friday, 20 September 2002 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

asia had at lest two fantastic pop singles with 'heat of the moment' and 'only time will tell'.
the velvet underground? ha, just my wishful thinking then.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 21 September 2002 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I got it. Pencils down, students: Insane Clown Posse.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:02 (twenty-three years ago)

HA HA HA HA HA HA! Oh, Alex, you have SO gotten that one wrong. DAN PERRY TO THREAD AGAIN!

Next you'll be dissing Night Ranger!

Easily done. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Now, I'm aware that lots of ILM contributors have some pretty dubious taste ---- but, really....... Insane Clown Posse? Surely not!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

right on, the'posse had some great tag action

george gosset (gegoss), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm very nearly speechless.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Seriously, Alex, Dan is very much a fan of the Dark Carnival -- there's quite a bit of stuff ICP has released he's not a fan of, but he is still a fan in general, no question of it. I still recall his glorious "CLOWN LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUV" post from last year with bemused pleasure. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 03:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this the part where someone says "Limp Bizkit"? Or is that too easy?

wl (wl), Saturday, 21 September 2002 04:23 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh, good one, wl.

I'll see your Limp Bizkit, however, and raise you a Linkin Park!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 04:28 (twenty-three years ago)

alex linkin park are saving rock and rap at the same time

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 21 September 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I do so hope your being facetious, Josh.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 04:56 (twenty-three years ago)

simon trife to thread!

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 21 September 2002 05:15 (twenty-three years ago)

"rollin'" is great!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 07:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh please, Jel, "Rollin'" is embarassing.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 10:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we're on the right track with the current US rock theme, though. Busted? New Found Glory? Puddle of Mudd?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 21 September 2002 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, I like the "this is what your granpa would dance to at a wedding" vibe of Rollin'.

puddle of mudd I like.

busted are a British boy band.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Busted are as good as American, though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 21 September 2002 11:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Creed.

Adrian Langston, Saturday, 21 September 2002 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

b-but no one has mentioned the Stereophonics!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 21 September 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't believe we overlooked Nickelback...

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Saturday, 21 September 2002 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

nickelback are okay.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

in the same way that paper cuts are ok certainly...

mike (ro)bott, Saturday, 21 September 2002 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Jimmy Buffett? Surely that's one that most of us can agree on.

Mike Appelstein (mike a), Saturday, 21 September 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't front on the Dark Carnival, bxtch boy. Even if their last two albums were half-crap, _Ringmaster_ and _riddle Box_ are absolute classics.

I fully support Martin's nomination of Stereophincs. They are pustulent nonsense.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 21 September 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, stereophonics is much more like it!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

We might have a winner! Stereophonics anyone? Going once...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

asia had at lest two fantastic pop singles with 'heat of the moment' and 'only time will tell'.
the velvet underground? ha, just my wishful thinking then.

You are not human are you???

brg30 (brg30), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Come on, SOMEONE has to stand up for the Stereophonics... anyone? Please, let there not be a concensus on something. I can't even pretend to not hate them enough to stir the shit!

kate, Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Nickelback, Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Insane Clown Posse, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are all *COMPLETELY FUCKING DIRE* and if you don't hate them, YOU SHOULD!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

word to Alex in NYC!

robin carmody (robin carmody), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

erm, 'The Bartender & The Thief' or possibly 'Mr Writer' is the little finger persistently hooked on the edge of the craggy rockface...and it might just have saved them if they hadnt done 'Step On My Old Size 9's' AND 'handbags & gladrags' - two of the worst singles of the last 12 months!

blueski, Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i love how alex in nyc still manages to be surprised/exasperated when someone says they like something which is 'obviously' dire. i have this picture of you at home, grabbing a beer, 'ah, i'll just have a quick look at ilm before i go out', someone says they like some pop or hip hop or nu-metal record, and alex splutters his beer, "what, no! i know some of those guys have got bad taste, but, no, surely not Pink!", and then going on another time, and then looking and spluttering beer in disbelief...."Nickelback! no, no, surely not!" like each time there are new levels of bad taste being displayed, i thought yould be used to it by now alex;)

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a little alarming how accurate Gareth's depiction is.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

In which case, what beer do you prefer?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends on mood: Everything from Brooklyn Lager through cheap Mexican beer (Modello Especial being the fave of that group). Recently discovered Yuengling, which I've taken a liking to. Despite being a Brit, my wife loves Budweiser, so there's always a bit of that in the house failing something more exotic.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

If the choice is Budweiser over nothing, you're fine. There are other American brews that should be shunned, but I'll let Kris aka Branch Rickey go over that, he has a better sense of these things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 20:20 (twenty-three years ago)

American Brews worth shunning (so long as there are other choices to be had): Stroh's (is it even still around?), Coors, Coors Light (the "Silver Bullet"), Killian's Red, Home Beer (Five dollars a case!)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, I'm not sure Killian's Red is American. Sorry.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 21 September 2002 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

isn't it made by miller or budweiser or something?

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

alex do you suffer from korsakoff's syndrome?!

Josh (Josh), Saturday, 21 September 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

is that the one with the drinking of the beer and the hating of the pop?

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Saturday, 21 September 2002 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Regarding the goal of this thread, and not beer, I hereby nominate Sheryl Crow.

Captain Sleep (Captain Sleep), Sunday, 22 September 2002 06:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i was picturing mr noodles slapping graham on the head with his ass during that ren/stimpy bit! :-) (space madness roolz!!)

i like sheryl crow. she did a really cool piano version of 'home' on vh1 storytellers.

how disgusting was that last sentence?

ron (ron), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh dear me no I like Sheryl Crow and so does Dave Q, I think, and so does alext from ILE.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i like the eagles.

everyone here must hate the corrs, right? SURELY?

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Heinekin? FUCK THAT SHIT! Stegmeyer's!!

(a/k/a "Stinkmeyer's," the pride-and-joy of Wilkes Barre, PA, and quite possibly the worst beer made anywhere in the world bar none).

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i like the corrs they are grand robots

BUDWEISER IS THE KING OF BEERS

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 22 September 2002 08:45 (twenty-three years ago)

BUDWEISER IS THE KING OF BEERS! BUDWEISER ON DRAUGHT IS THE KING OF BEERS!

david h (david h), Sunday, 22 September 2002 09:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Does wanting to have angry, ribald, degrading sex with the Corr sisters count as "liking" the Corrs? Thought not.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

it so does!! the nyc stands for "in total denial"!!

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, that's my cover...er...blown then. Better go turn in my credentials.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:36 (twenty-three years ago)

We STILL don't have anyone willing to stand up for the Stereophonics!

Going once... going twice... do we have a winner?

Kelly Jones, get ready to stand up and take a bow... (or a BOOT TO THE HEAD!!! BOOT TO THE HEAD!!!)

kate, Sunday, 22 September 2002 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll stand up for "local boy in the photograph" which i actually really quite like...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no! someone doesn't hate the stereophonics!! oh no!!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 22 September 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

i bet lots of people don't hate them, such as myself who has never heard of them.

ron (ron), Sunday, 22 September 2002 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Hundred Reasons?

(Yes, that's HUNDRED REASONS, any Googlers searching for a site that mentions HUNDRED REASONS should come here for HUNDRED REASONS debate)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 22 September 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

no don't encourage 'em Dom (unless you want 400 posts by tomorrow morning).

''i bet lots of people don't hate them, such as myself who has never heard of them.''

be thankful for that ron.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 22 September 2002 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

The Crescent.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 22 September 2002 18:02 (twenty-three years ago)

i like Hundred Reasons. i've got a Crescent single but haven't listened to it yet. i suspect i'll think it's okay and then never bother listening to it again.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 22 September 2002 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

AHA!

THE A*TEENS.

*grins maniacally*

janni (janni), Thursday, 13 February 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but no one has mentioned the Stereophonics!

I fucking HATE the Stereophonics (locally known as the sterophonies). Had I been in that photograph, I could have been that boy I s'pose.

Bastards.

I fucking HATE the Stereophonics.

Ummmmm... uhhhhhh..... How 'bout Jethro Tull?

Evan (Evan), Friday, 14 February 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Jethro Tull had their moments.....however few and far between.

Personally, I fucking hate B2K.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 14 February 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Technotronic

Curtis Stephens, Friday, 14 February 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anybody know the name of that band that sang a song that went something like, "This is the story of a girrrrrl who cried a river and drowned the whole worrrrlddd!!!"? Awful AWFUL song. If you like it, then I suggest you never EVER read another one of my posts again because we obviously have absolutely nothing in common when it comes to music.

Evan (Evan), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED CREED

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Once more for good measure, CREED!

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Friday, 14 February 2003 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

But if nobody likes them, why the hell are they so popular?

Evan (Evan), Friday, 14 February 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

morons don't count

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 14 February 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

they may sell millions of LPs but they ain't disqualified till someone here owns up to liking them. (not me heh)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 14 February 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the god thing puts me off Creed, though the logic behind that reaction is pretty shaky - i mean, i'm sure there are loads of non-Christian-but-still-religious bands I like. Low's Mormonistic tendencies don't deter me from loving them; in fact, they add a tasty sliver of gravitas to the proceedings.

I'm not sure I hate any bands at all - I tend to dislike the band members for whatever reason, and thus find it hard to like the music. But I'm not sure that counts either.

Charlie (Charlie), Friday, 14 February 2003 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i think everyone hates bryan adams by now.

derrick (derrick), Friday, 14 February 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I like some of Bryan Adams songs.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Chevelle?
Disturbed?

Jonathan Williams (ex machina), Friday, 14 February 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

cannibal ox

schnell schnell, Friday, 14 February 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

"cuts like a knife" cuts like a knife

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"cuts like a knife" is dull.

janni (janni), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

John fucking Mayer! (is he a band? let's just say he is.)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It's already been proven that not everyone hates him (sadly).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

<glee>
no one's fessed up to liking the A*Teens yet! :)
</glee>

janni (janni), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello? Skrewdriver.

mike a (mike a), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

how about... northern uproar?

schnell schnell, Friday, 14 February 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom used to like A*Teens.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought "everyone" hated him in that thread though, Dan (I'm assuming everyone = everyone on ILM). Or maybe not.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

There were at least three people (Dave Popshots and the two Anthonys) who defended him.

(haha I should have left my "Popshats" typo)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 February 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Skrewdriver's too easy. I mean, do they even count as music? Aren't they just thinly-veiled right wing propaganda dressed up like a rock'n'roll band? Is there anyone really out there saying "Well, I don't agree with their politics, but dang....Skrewdriver ROCKS!" Probably not, I'd think.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 14 February 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Alex, you should have been on Usenet in the 90s, as there were TONS of people saying exactly that.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 14 February 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanni
John Tesh
Air Supply

REO Speedwagon

who the hell is skrewdriver?

Evan (Evan), Saturday, 15 February 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

>>who the hell is skrewdriver?<<

White power hardcore/Oi band.

Alan

Alan Conceicao, Saturday, 15 February 2003 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The Cranberries are the only band on that list towards whom I feel anything resembling hatred. I love a number of the other ones.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Accept!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The Coors

This is the best typo since Julio called Wilco "thrash".

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

(PS: Chicago = EW)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Technotronic

Curtis, get out!

skrewdriver

Musically, their first record is supposedly pretty good. Lyrically more dubious, obviously. Personally, without a doubt, Skrewdriver is probably the most universally hated on ilxor.

*cue googling frightening skrewdriver fans*

donut bitch (donut), Saturday, 15 February 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I really didn't want to contribute to this thread, but I couldn't let the A*Teens bashing go unanswered. The A*Teens "Upside Down" and "Halfway Around the World" were my two favorite singles of 2001.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 15 February 2003 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

REO Speedwagon wins.

maybe Glass Tiger? Wilson Phillips? hm.

I hate Peter Gabriel, but I'm probably alone on that. He's always so fucking smug.

derrick (derrick), Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Hoobastank. They seem pretty indefensible.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

If for the name alone. Hoobastank? that's awful.

derrick (derrick), Saturday, 15 February 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I fuckin' hate Good Charlotte and New Found Glory.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 February 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i can think of a skrewdriver song i like

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't heard about half of the bands on this thread

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody's proffered Foreigner, yet... blech. Anyone? Bueller?

Oh for that matter... Ladies and Gentlemen may I suggest ...

the Little River Band.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Or hell, John "Little Johnny" Farnham for that matter.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody's proffered Foreigner, yet... blech. Anyone? Bueller?

i like urgent

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Dammit, there goes that idea.

I still dare anyone to own up to liking the Little river band tho.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't mind Foreigner, if truth be told. "Long, Long Way from Home" is good....and who could argue with "Urgent"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 15 February 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a couple of cool songs by the little river band

duane, Saturday, 15 February 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Duane, you're scaring me.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 February 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

SCORPIONS!!!? I'm vetoing that one. Also Foreigner's "Night Life" is as good as Donna Summer's

dave q, Saturday, 15 February 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

(I already vetoed that entire list except the Cranberries. I love Boston and at least the Scorpions' GH, like an Accept song and a Corrs song, don't mind or particularly care about Foreigner and REO Speedwagon, and don't know most of the rest. Really, though, I generally can't be bothered to hate bands.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And I totally love "Heaven" and "Summer of '69". "You Spin Me Round" by Dead Or Alive isn't bad.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

mellissa ethridge

ddd, Saturday, 15 February 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

A-Teens are okay.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 15 February 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a dream Phil Collins and Bryan Adams
did a single backed by the Scorpions.
It was a very restless night.

kevin brady (groeuvre), Saturday, 15 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Can anyone tell me why Phil collins is so annoying ?
Everytime i tune into a Phil Collins song it takes about 2,5 milliseconds before i hit the off button or change channel, its soo instinctive, like shutting your eyes when someone tries to poke you in the eye. Its like your brain recognises some very real danger and reacts parasympatethically to save the organism.
It cant be just the music/singing/sentiment/style, there must be more to it..

kevin brady (groeuvre), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, yeah and fucking eros ramazotti, what is the story with eros ramazotti, what is the justification for this whining blandness which grates like its designed to annoy and destabalise your whole sense of wellbeing and inner balance ..
is it in fact, perhaps, some sort of biological weapon ?

kevin brady (groeuvre), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks to VH1 Classic, I too am trying to figure out why I find Phil Collins so detestable. Though I notice my anger rises during his more playful videos (like "Don't Lose My Number," or any Genesis video about making a video, esp. "Invisible Touch.").

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I once went to an eros ramazotti concert because my wife had some commitment to be there as part of her marketing job and anyway I said isn't that what being married's all about ? sometimes you gotta do things which you normally wouldn't do, like go to an eros ramazotti concert for instance, and anyway how bad could it be ? Maybe i'd enjoy it live, maybe it would be one of those all too rare but not totally unknown pleasantly surprising experiences where you find out that a band you previously had no interest in from hearing them on the radio was actually amazing live, say like, eh, fury in the slaughter house, I know its a little obscure, but please bear with me on this one, anyway as i was saying how bad could it be ?

Pause for breath

kevin brady (groeuvre), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hoobastank. They seem pretty indefensible."
I'd have to say you are corect with that one.
"I fuckin' hate Good Charlotte and New Found Glory."
I agree with this as well.
I also need to add:
Rochelle Rochelle
The Rembrandts
Rick Springfield
ELO
Yes
The Doobie Brothers
Jewel
Vanilla Ice
Kid N Play
Fresh Prince
Rammstein
No Doubt

Street Walking Cheetah (Street Walking Cheetah), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

where was i ?
Yeah, like how bad could an eros ramazotti concert be ?
Let me provide an analogy:
Imagine sitting for 24 hours straight in a room with all the people from the work responsible for office safety and the other people at work you have absolutely nothing in common with except the oxygen dependence, and you have to you go to the bathroom and you cant until some time unspecified, and your favourite team is playing live and its a really good game but you cant see it because theres no tv anywere in the room, and your wife is asking you which outfit you prefer and you have to give a reason for your decision, and your tax return has to be filled in yesterday and theres no hot water and you must shpower before you go to work and your car wont satrt and you have to be at a meeting NOW,
pretty fucking bad.
Dont do it.

kevin brady (groeuvre), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes = classic obv

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The Coors
This is the best typo since Julio called Wilco "thrash".

-- Nate Patrin (natepatrin550...), February 14th, 2003.

I gotta laugh myself. The typo was a bit more Pavlovian than Freudian.

Street Walking Cheetah (Street Walking Cheetah), Saturday, 15 February 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

lots of ppl here love ELO. & rick springfield, the fresh prince, the doobie brothers & (esp!) no doubt have some great songs

duane, Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite like bashing about on the dancefloor (or doing the vacuuming) to a few Rammstein songs, so no - they don't count.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

ELO have had their moments.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"ELO have had their moments."
-- Alex in NYC (vassife...), February 16th, 2003.

My favorite ELO moment is when they decided to call it quits.

Smart Went Crazy, Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Bahahaha....

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! BUCKS FIZZ!

They were k'n awful.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't Rammstein almost as big as David Hassellhoff in Europe?

Fitz, Sunday, 16 February 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

BANDS EVERYONE SEEMS TO LOVE BUT I HATE WITH PASSION:

The Strokes; Dave Matthews; Rochelle Rochelle; Jimmy Eat World; New Found Glory; Belle and Sebastian; Arab Strap; Swans; Blonde Redhead; Foetus and all his mutations/incarnations/retardations;Fiona DiFranco; Third Sugar Ray Blind; Can

Copper Penny, Sunday, 16 February 2003 05:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, good one, wl.
I'll see your Limp Bizkit, however, and raise you a Linkin Park!

-- Alex in NYC (vassife...), September 21st, 2002.

Oh yeah! Well, I'll see your dirty stinkin Linkin, raise you a POD and call. Read 'em and weep, baby!

Big Drugs, Sunday, 16 February 2003 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"...no doubt have some great songs..."
-- duane (sfduid...), February 16th, 2003.

Well, I guess we cannot be friends!

Big Fat Mary, Sunday, 16 February 2003 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

surely it has to be some goth rock band like fields of the nephilim.....
or wait, everyone i know who saw them reckons Doll By Doll were absolutely fucking abysmal

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Sunday, 16 February 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Monkeys?

RSPMJLGH (Piano Man), Sunday, 16 February 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yngwie Malmsteen (unleash the fuckin' fury).

nickn (nickn), Sunday, 16 February 2003 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

the foo fighters.

kevin brady (groeuvre), Sunday, 16 February 2003 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Why bother hating the Foo Fighters?

Or, hell, anyone else for that matter. This whole thread needs to end. It's like Henry Rollins said: "It's like if someone hands you a big pile of shit. That doesn't mean you have to take it!"

You hate it? Great. Go ahead and hate it. Have a fucking ball. But I think you're putting too much energy into it just by hating it.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 16 February 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

what about AVERAGE WHITE BAND?

derrick (derrick), Sunday, 16 February 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"surely it has to be some goth rock band like fields of the nephilim...."

What are you, high? The Nephs were *GREAT*! C'mon..."Psychonaut"? "Sumerland"? "Phobia"? "Power"? "Preacher Man"? *CLASSICS!*

I do like the Foo Fighters......a fuckuva lot more than I ever liked Nirvana.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 February 2003 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex believe me I have never been 'high' in my life...hmmm maybe that's a problem....
Classic Goth Rock was never one of my likes - but tell you what, since it's you defending FotN, and since I also really like most of what I've heard by a certain band you love, I actually want to hear those songs you've mentioned now.

Snowy Mann (rdmanston), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Average White Band is flat-out fantastic. "Pick Up The Pieces" is one of the great unhearalded instrumentals of the 70s.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I appreciate that. Check out "Psychonaut" first....incredibly histrionic and silly, but ya gotta love'em. Especially the bass!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 February 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

creed!

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

So Tad, how do you feel about Creed, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Beautiful South is OTM. Also, let's not forget Simply Red.

the devil's music both.

Hucknall, Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Technotronic are great, veto.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum Calum and the Calumming Calums.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

if Calum were a band, what band would he be?

Hole?

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 5 June 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

SPIN DOCTORS.

Thank you.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 5 June 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i like the Beautiful South singles comp

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 5 June 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll bump this too. I guess of the uncontested bands still out there, I'll own up to liking the Romantics. Thier early single "Tell It to Carrie" is fantastic. Does everyone here hate SEV?

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
surely everyone hates the Kelly Family and Bryan Adams?

Rudolf (Rudolf), Monday, 1 December 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure consensus was actually reached about five posts in with Toploader, who surely no one will ever own up to liking.

In the meantime, the Fast Food Rockers could well be a decent substitute.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 1 December 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Some of the bands mentioned here (The Eagles, Hanson..) aren't that bad. I mean, I certainly wouldn't hate anybody who has made such as great album as "Desperado".

And ELO is one of the best bands ever!

That being said, this thread contains a large number of bands worth hating too.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 1 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Bucks Fizz were a flippin' ace singles bad- especially after they realised they'd have to be a good singles band in order to get over winning Eurovision!!!!!!
