one time my friends and i went to a best of the twin cities show at first avenue and one of the bands playing was this awful 12 person jam band fire-twirling and acrobatic nightmare named Wookiefoot and as they played a cover of "Scarlet Begonias" my friend mike started loudly and drunkenly bitching about the horror and a hippie near us retaliated by dumping an entire vial of patchouli on jeff and we all had to share a cab ride home in the winter with all the windows rolled up.

and thats what i think about the Greatful Dead.

i'm spending way too much time watching the video clips of this year's lineup. when did shitty EDM become acceptable for these things, joining shitty reggae, shitty americana, and shitty funk?

the ever-colorful Wendy Soleil leads this group of talented musicians with her gorgeously full vocals, soulful songwriting and ecstatic devotion to her primary instrument, the ukulele.

these groups/this 'scene' (what is this anyway? the upper midwest 'jam'/festival scene?) is really good at not doing jack shit for the planet while spouting a bunch of feel-good proselyting about clean water and shit.

It's like smooth jazz adult contemporary for wanna be hippies.

the biggest takeaway I guess from this music is that any band whose primary objective is to "mix" genres is terrible. Genre lines should be enforced at gunpoint like the borders of Soviet-era Eastern European states.
