I wonder of the effects on the Beatles, in particular John Lennon. Lennon was very much a Dylan fan, and would become the counter culture bard during his own solo career. In the void left by Dylan, Lennon filling that void may be easier. Or, perhaps it would lead Lennon to seek to fill that void earlier, leading to stress which breaks the Beatles and leads Lennon to go solo earlier. I would think Lennon would be rather heart broken over Dylan's death.

I saw him in a strip mall on the wrong side of the interstate at a place called "Joe's Big Bamboo," which usually hosted all-ages "foam" parties when Bob Dylan wasn't in town.
One of the best shows I've ever seen, and you know, I'm not really even that huge of a fan of the man.
― pplains, Friday, 13 March 2020 19:16 (five years ago)
I've been telling myself this kind of thing for a bunch of long-running artists I've never seen live ever since Leonard Cohen died (who I really could have seen in a really good venue if I hadn't balked at the expensive ticket price).
I definitely thought of seeing Dylan even though I've never really considered myself that much of a fan. Also thinking about this for King Crimson (who are coming here in July but are very expensive).

Saw George Clinton a lot in the 90s when he still had a decent crop of OG musicians w him. But have never seen Bob, who is a huge figure for me, and still seems capable of surprises. So feels like something I should do.

ooh Shakes that’s exciting! i’ve seen him twice, on the Time Out of Mind (?) tour in aus in 1998, and then a friend gave me a free ticket for the Modern Times tour in 2006. Great both times. Absolutely worth seeing. that Rolling Thunder doc really reactivated my fandom, it had been a kinda dormant in the past few years
― terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 14 March 2020 07:09 (five years ago)
I saw my first Dylan show in 1997 a month or two before Time Out of Mind came out. At some point in 1998 I became worried Bob was going to die and lifted heaven and earth to go see he and Joni Mitchell at Madison Square Garden. I then saw him six or seven more times, lol, but I haven't seen him since 2010. His tickets have gotten very expensive, but I should go again.
― Why, I would make a fantastic Nero! (PBKR), Saturday, 14 March 2020 12:30 (five years ago)
I saw him in 1978 at Maple Leaf Gardens, a few months before a Neil Young pre-Rust show at the same venue. I drank and drugged and remember nothing except that he opened with "Mr. Tambourine Man" and I almost passed out--getting your money's worth.
― clemenza, Saturday, 14 March 2020 13:10 (five years ago)
Not a Dylan fan at all, but I've been trying to catch old-ass jazz artists whenever possible. I saw Ahmad Jamal (who'll be 90 this year) last year and he was amazing. I saw Pharoah Sanders - who I first saw back in the mid 90s - in December. I really wish I'd gotten to see McCoy Tyner at least once before he died.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 14 March 2020 13:19 (five years ago)
I did get to see Ornette, that was great. Kinda kicking myself for not seeing Pharaoh recently.
― Οὖτις, Saturday, 14 March 2020 14:34 (five years ago)
I saw Pharaoh a couple of years ago, and I was really disappointed, sadly. Maybe it was an off night; he didn't look that good, either. I've seen Dylan a bunch. He was great for a couple of them, he was absolutely boring for a couple of them. Once I fell asleep and later said "never again." That was years ago, and every time he comes through town he's, as usual, preceded by praise. "Dylan's engaged again! His band is killer!" And of course I consider going but haven't for many, many years, because it's pricey and because I assume the "Dylan's back!" hype is just that. On the other hand, it's Dylan, and his band is indeed usually killer.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 14 March 2020 14:46 (five years ago)
At the very least, I am psyched that I cannot in any way predict what material he will do
― Οὖτις, Saturday, 14 March 2020 14:49 (five years ago)
Don't look at recent setlists before you go then. While his setlists are never exactly the same, ime he usually has a core songs he plays every show or three on a tour, with other things rotating in and out. Usually every show is good for one unusual number to pop up that he hasn't played in years. He played Joey the first time I saw him.
