30 Votes.
35 points your #1, 29 your #2, 28 your #3 etc.
I don't like unranked lists so I'm not doing them.
In the email please tell me how they are ranked (i.e. top to bottom) if you do it in a way that isn't straight 1. 2. 3.

Email your votes to samuelpooley @ gmail.com (no spaces)

You don't have to pick from the list but I don't think ilx has ever had a write-in vote rank. Plus this is 600+ strong.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:26 (twelve years ago)

Blimey, by the time we got to woodstock or wot?

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:30 (twelve years ago)

Right, I have boiled it down to 55

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:42 (twelve years ago)

Haha, I forgot to nominate American Dad, so there will be a write-in vote.

super perv powder (Phil D.), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 16:45 (twelve years ago)

Um, wait, so now we ONLY have "Doctor Who (70s version)"? I suppose that's better than only having "Doctor Who (Murray Gold version)" but still, I'm pretty sure that satisfies nobody.

emil.y, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:07 (twelve years ago)

Can we please just have a single "Doctor Who" entry, basically?

emil.y, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago)

i guess. its not like the nominating thread wasnt open for ages tho to sort this out.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago)

i guess a mod would have to sort it out and change the opening post?

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago)

Well, as far as I was concerned the majority vote on the nominating thread *was* to have a single entry... there was lots of discussion and that seemed to be the general consensus.

emil.y, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:17 (twelve years ago)

oh thats my oversite then, sorry.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:21 (twelve years ago)

oversight? gah. i dont understand life.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:21 (twelve years ago)

Kinda bummed no one included 227 or Amen.

mod is my co-pilot (Pillbox), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:42 (twelve years ago)

whoops! i was looking under "capt lou albano theme" for "do the mario" and didn't see it was listed.
there is a capt. lou albano theme but for some reason the only version on youtube is by NRBQ

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:44 (twelve years ago)

This?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m25NzM5OjmY

MarkoP, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago)

the version i'm thinking of was more nautical-ly, like sea shanty style.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago)

fuck, forgot to nominate the Poirot theme. that's a gem

g simmel, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 19:33 (twelve years ago)

If there's only one Doctor Who theme why the f wouldn't you have made it the original

good naber He help get undr control (sic), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:57 (twelve years ago)

(Although obviously I approve of excluding Murray Gold, esp as the only nominator couldn't pick one)

good naber He help get undr control (sic), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:59 (twelve years ago)

People sure are cranky about Doctor Who themes.

If you like a Doctor Who theme, vote for a Doctor Who theme. If it places (which I'm certain it will), discuss which versions are best and worst at that time. For now, just consider any vote for Doctor Who a vote for Doctor Who.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 20:59 (twelve years ago)

(which I'm certain it will)

Bet you at least 10 of them don't

good naber He help get undr control (sic), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago)

Delia 1> Delaware> Delia 2> Delia 3 (2 re-edit)>>>>>>>>>>> the rest>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Murray Gold 1> Murray Gold 3> Murray Gold 2> Murray Gold 4.

I think. I might be understating how much rational people hate the Murray Gold music.

passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Wednesday, 14 November 2012 22:09 (twelve years ago)

Whatever, you guys! I'm just saying that a hoy hoy should count all votes for Doctor Who together and when it places we can all sort out the good ones from the bad.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 22:19 (twelve years ago)

We already did this conversation in the other thread! The majority of people thought it was better to just have one 'Doctor Who' entry! Which is probably why nothing else got nominated, b/c we thought it'd get fixed to just say 'Doctor Who'!

The main reason why I'm so het up about this is because it so easily deserves to win and I will be PISSED OFF if it misses out b/c of confusing entries.

emil.y, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 22:19 (twelve years ago)

xpost - or yes, what JF is saying in a more reasonable manner.

emil.y, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 22:20 (twelve years ago)

i'd vote for this version over all others
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFxYDDnf6v8

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 22:21 (twelve years ago)

and im cool w/ that emily. i must have just missed the decision. again, if a mod wants to fix it so it doesn't confuse anyone that will be cool. if they don't, i'll just collect all dr who votes together anyway.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 01:22 (twelve years ago)

good naber He help get undr control (sic), Thursday, 15 November 2012 02:00 (twelve years ago)

Are we doing "say what country you live in" on your ballot? I thought there was some appetite for that.

Jeff W, Thursday, 15 November 2012 11:06 (twelve years ago)

You can totally do that! And mebbe an age range too. I might email the one person who has voted so far and ask if they wanna give local.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 12:05 (twelve years ago)

Also, do you need a research assistant for the roll out, so we get proper composer credits and dates and whatnot? Or are you just gonna do youtubes and amusing anecdotes about Jack Lord and Keith Chegwin?

Jeff W, Thursday, 15 November 2012 14:18 (twelve years ago)

If you wanna be that research assistant then sure?

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 14:40 (twelve years ago)

I think when more votes start to roll in and I can at least start to see a top pattern emerging then i can start looking into stuff. dont wanna waste it based on 1 vote for xxxx that isnt going to place though.

"It's like death metal lyrics, but about a vagina." (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 15 November 2012 14:42 (twelve years ago)

The theme from Mystery! on PBS wasn't nominated?

MrDasher, Thursday, 15 November 2012 15:22 (twelve years ago)

No, because you failed to nominate it.

I like this idea a lot.

emil.y, Thursday, 15 November 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago)

Kinda bummed no one included 227 or Amen.

Yeah, the theme from Amen in particular is pretty spectacular.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Thursday, 15 November 2012 15:56 (twelve years ago)

reviewing this list really makes me realize what was lost when "two good-looking guys driving nice cars and shooting at things while bad synthesizer music and/or foreigner rip-offs play in the background" was no longer a viable tv show pitch

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:11 (twelve years ago)

also that if you sped the "alf" theme song up about 200 percent it'd basically be a squarepusher track

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:14 (twelve years ago)

omg super mario supershow

some dude, Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:15 (twelve years ago)

at a really low moment a few years back the perfect strangers theme song reduced me to jibbering infant-like tears

i was sober, btw

idiot man-child (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:22 (twelve years ago)

next generation ftw, it's just so loose and funky when played out of context. on every sex tape i've ever made.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 15 November 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago)

perfect strangers theme can kinda make me well up a little if it catches me off guard - you're not alone strongo.

Sons of Anarchy has had the same theme song for its whole run, there was just one (or a couple?) episodes that took place in Ireland where they did a goofy celtic version of the usual theme, def not necessary as its own nomination

Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Saturday, 24 November 2012 13:39 (twelve years ago)

For my 1st pass, my rule was if I couldn't call up the theme music and most or all of its lyrics in my head just from the name of the show, it got cut -- even if it was a show I loved. That gave me a short list of 60, and it wasn't too hard to work from there.

I nominated Monty Python and Alfred Hitchcock since I felt they were cases where people are more likely to associate those songs with the shows than on there own, which is different from the CSI themes which I think a lot of people will still associate as being songs by The Who, but maybe that's just my own opinion. And then there's also cases like The People's Court and Dave Allen At Large which use pieces of library music as their themes, that weren't necessarily written for a specific show.

Well, actually, Morbs isn't being pedantic, as there's nothing in the meaning of "TV theme" that voids the inclusion of music not specifically written for that purpose. Morbs is being grouchy, *I* am being pedantic.

emil.y, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 02:39 (twelve years ago)

I'm for complementary, not competitive, polling

( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Wednesday, 28 November 2012 03:27 (twelve years ago)

obviously a lot of TV themes were appropriated from pre-existing songs, but there's such a wide variation from songs that were very famous beforehand to ones that are still almost purely known as themes that it's just kind of a pointless gray area to try to police imo

some dude, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 03:29 (twelve years ago)

Agreed - I think the current approach makes total sense. Also, are people really going to vote for "Who Are You" as a TV theme, when there's so much other stuff on this list that no other ILX poll will ever include? I guess "The Monkees" is the real acid test of that logic though.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 28 November 2012 03:37 (twelve years ago)

Plus, where does pre-exising start and finish? I know, for example, that "Approaching Menace" was used as incidental music in more than one TV show (including Doctor Who) - but to almost everybody else it's the theme from Mastermind, which came much later. "New Worlds" is a great Radiophonic piece, but most only know one bit of it, from the end of John Craven's Newsround.

emil.y, Thursday, 29 November 2012 14:29 (twelve years ago)

Write-in vote for Audrey Horne's theme?

Jeff W, Thursday, 29 November 2012 15:11 (twelve years ago)

Is a hoy hoy still accepting ballots? Totally forgot about it till just now.

Sod it, I think I'm going for the inimitable creep of the main title, just so I can stop my agonising.

DONE.

emil.y, Thursday, 29 November 2012 15:55 (twelve years ago)

Hey guys and gals.

I'm still taking ballots! However, if it is Monday wherever you are when you read this, it is too late. Upto Sunday only.

Sorry, I have been away for a couple days. I have seen I've got some emails but I haven't had time to check them properly, reply etc. so don't worry if I haven't yet. If you have voted and haven't got a reply from me by tomorrow, please feel free to re-send it but I'm going to check spam filters etc. just to make sure I get every one I can possibly find.

Gonna do most of the calculating tomorrow.

Hope you all had a fun week and didn't go too mental over this.

Good kind of mental!

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 29 November 2012 17:20 (twelve years ago)

listening to CHiPs for the first time now - shit, this *is* pretty cool

There are two recordings: the more theme-y version used in the first season, and then the disco-y version used through the remainder of the series. I definitely prefer the latter version. Killer percussion, killer bass line, that weird ascending synth part...bliss.

I believe I've emailed back every confirmation. If you were one of the people in my spam filter trying to enlarge my penis, give me groupon offers or show me your boobs then I would have much preferred you to have put tv themes or ilx or something in the subject title first. Send it again with a new tag and I'll happily store money for a Nigerian Prince.

Watch out when you do the adding up cos there are a few duplicates in yr list (e.g. things appearing both with and without a 'the' in front of them, like White Horses [tum-tee-tum-tee-tum])

Albert Crampus (NickB), Thursday, 29 November 2012 18:09 (twelve years ago)

done & done - o man, the final round of pruning was brutal!

Pillbox, Sunday, 2 December 2012 23:03 (twelve years ago)

cutting things fine as ever, I just sent a list at like 20 seconds to midnight my time, but if that is too late then uh sorry, too bad

(hastily pruned loads of stuff I thought would get votes anyway, and also most of my lifetime's TV watching took place age 5-15 - age 16 was when I got internet access at home and started spending my life glued to a different screen - so ended up with like a 90% British kids shows list, making me that sad bastard nobody wants to end up sat near at the pub, as if I didn't already know)

a panda, Malmö (a passing spacecadet), Monday, 3 December 2012 00:04 (twelve years ago)

Is it too early to guess one?

Mark G, Monday, 3 December 2012 12:01 (twelve years ago)

Go for it. At the moment there are 8 shows in the top twenty I'm certain I've never seen an episode of and to break the top 100 a show only needs 37 points. Basically I think this could be one of ilx's more leftfield polls (or I just don't know enough TV). (Of course I've got 12 more ballots to go).

vote! (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 December 2012 12:06 (twelve years ago)

Anyone bored, wanting something to do and can play with photoshop want to make some fancy graphics?

vote! (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:23 (twelve years ago)

i think the fun of this is that it's hard to say what's "leftfield" and what isn't, since there's not really any TV theme song canon, just shows people know and have different opinions and anecdotal evidence of how they're regarded

these markers love soda (some dude), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:33 (twelve years ago)

In terms of doubles and a show I don't know - are Miami Vice and Miami Vice - Crockett's Theme the same thing or seperate?

vote! (a hoy hoy), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:41 (twelve years ago)

They're totally different tunes, both by the same composer though

Albert Crampus (NickB), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:43 (twelve years ago)

crockett's theme is horrid btw, og mv theme 4evah

Albert Crampus (NickB), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:43 (twelve years ago)

They're different. No idea why anyone would vote for the main theme when 'Crockett's Theme' rules so hard.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 3 December 2012 13:44 (twelve years ago)

Duckula and Count Duckula are, I'm pretty sure, the same thing.

Bobby Ken Doll (Eric H.), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:44 (twelve years ago)

right you, outside

Ismael Klata, Monday, 3 December 2012 13:44 (twelve years ago)

i am outside

Albert Crampus (NickB), Monday, 3 December 2012 13:46 (twelve years ago)

Cheers.

I think when I roll out shows with multiple voting options, for the top one I'm going to calculate a bit in brackets saying (Show X + Show X 80s Cocaine Version + Show X Suicide Theme would have come #11 with 4999 points).

What with everything going on I didn't have time to vote in this :(
Crockett's theme is the most nostalgic music EVER, it was on a bank ad in the 80s and then a similar one was in a milk ad.

kinder, Monday, 3 December 2012 14:51 (twelve years ago)

I think you can add an 's' to the url after the http bit e.g.
