maybe this thread (and poll to come) will combat the sentiment that this place has gotten boring.
What musicians do we hate the most? Our loathing and contempt is what really unites us here.

The Beatles ~ Illuminati Mind ControllersPosted by Old Timer (Larry Yeatts) on August 6, 2012 in News & Politics
The Beatles were an Illuminati creation. Their songs were written for them and handlers scripted their actions and words. They demonstrate that popular culture is really mind control.
… ”The present rock ‘n’ roll scene is one giant, multi-media portrait of degradation-a sleazy world of immorality, venereal disease, anarchy, nihilism, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, death, Satanism, perversion and orgies.”
In the style of true Satanists, the Beatles sold this sickness as “Love,” a reminder that the world is controlled by a satanic cult, the Illuminati, that hates God, and hates you and I.

I can agree with this after my friend and I spent a few evenings at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in Chicago. We saw what seemed like hundreds of his videos on a big screen whilst sat at the bar. There were so many of him performing his awful songs live (Cheeseburger in Paradise, Let's Get Drunk and Screw!!) These videos included images of him stood looking way too smug with his adoring fans (mainly older looking women) Great margaritas though!

Watching a music channel last night I was full of rage for this band. Not only did they appear with their awful songs but now we have all these bands like Passenger, The Lumineers and Of Monsters and Men who seem like they've seen how well Mumford have done and have gone out and bought acoustic guitars, hats then rounded up their ugliest mates to form bands to see if they make it.

People like Sigur Rós don't they? At least at dinner parties.
― Eyeball Kicks, Friday, 17 May 2013 18:59 (thirteen years ago)
i loved sigur ros until i heard "hoppipolla" in a propoganda video for Anonymous and after that they kind of seemed lame, even though that isn't fair to them. i will always have a space in my heart for Staralfur though.
xp to dog latin, at first i thought you wrote "stereolab" and i was going to say that you were wrong, but in a way that indicated the profundity of my disagreement with you. but now i don't care... i have no feelings whatsoever about stereophonics.

I agree that most of the time the person or people disliking something are the idiots/losers in the situation, but that doesn't mean there isn't boring/lame/shitty music out there.
― mimicking regular benevloent (sic) users' names (President Keyes), Saturday, 18 May 2013 02:14 (thirteen years ago)
people are just posting names of beloved musicians to get other people riled up though.
― Treeship, Saturday, 18 May 2013 02:17 (thirteen years ago)
which isn't necessarily a bad thing to do... i withhold judgement. but it doesn't seem to me like any interesting conversations are going to come out of this thread. it would be better if people just went on these artists' actual threads and made their case against them there, in the form of 5 paragraph essays.
― Treeship, Saturday, 18 May 2013 02:19 (thirteen years ago)
Disliking musicians isn't stupid. I'd say it's necessary. Making a poll about who we dislike the most is jawdroppingly dumb tho.

i see your point, and otm. it needed to be said. in light of the rev's objections, we should probably settle down and just use this thread to generate a nominee list for a june poll thread. (like everybody gets to choose their 20 most hated, ranked or unranked, perhaps in the form of some kind of "ballot" maybe?) and then instead of just rolling out the results with pictures and quotes, we run the top 32 as a series of bracket polls over the next six months or so in order to generate the one and only true champion of ILM hatedness just in time for christmas.

People get trolled too easily these days. I really do hate Dylan, though. I've gotten less hateful of Elvis over the years. I grew up hearing so much Elvis from my mom's fandom that I really absolutely couldn't stand him for a long, long time.
Oh, and Clapton. He's the epitome of someone I used to like who I soured on and now can't stand.

― Josiah Alan, Saturday, 18 May 2013 13:58 (thirteen years ago)
Any of her fans outside the continental US don't really understand how incredibly oppressive pop country can be living in the rural areas. Its like sitting in the McDonalds in a mega Walmart and watching Fox News between poisonous salty bites of cancer burger. Utterly soul crushing.
I listened to so much country at work that I could tell you the lyric of every song.
― Josiah Alan, Saturday, 18 May 2013 14:03 (thirteen years ago)
i go back and forth between hating taylor swift, wanting to forgive her because she seems cute, finding her cuteness cloying and loathsome, hearing the stray song by her that isn't that bad, thinking it's neat that you can really tell that it is her writing these songs -- that she has a distinctive songwriting voice that sets her apart from most pop stars of her stature, hating her songwriting voice, etc. it causes me a great deal of distress.
