STRONGEST EMOTION, THE DISCO EXPLOSION: It's the Grand ILM Disco Poll nomination thread (nomination time ends on Friday, November 1st)

Okay, we're finally gonna poll the most fabulous genre of them all, disco! This thread is for you to nominating disco tunes for the grand poll. But before you start typing, there are some important rules for the nominations! So please read the instructions below...

1) You can nominate up to 20 tracks.

2) The poll is for tracks released between 1972 and 1984 only. This is so that no proto-disco or disco house or stuff like that will be included. However, you can vote for newer remixes, as long as the remixed tune originally came out between 1972 and 1984. So, for example, the new remixes Tom Moulton did for this compilation are valid, even though they were only published in 2012, since the original tunes are from the 70s and early 80s.

3) I've already compiled a big list of important disco tracks, which can be viewed below:

The nomination list

All the stuff that's on list is already included in the poll, so you don't have to nominate any of them. Before you nominate anything, please check it isn't already on the list!

The reasons for compiling the list are to make sure no big tune is omitted from the poll, and to give people the chance to nominate more personal and obscure favourites. I'm gonna be updating the linked list and adding all the new nominations there.

4) The only disco offshoots that should be included in the poll are boogie and Italo, which are very close to "proper" disco anyway. I'm not gonna disqualify any nomination, but I hope you won't nominate stuff like old school rap, electro, new wave, or early house music. They may have been influence by disco, but they're not disco music!

5) Unless otherwise specified, I'm gonna assume your nomination is for the 12 inch version of the tune. If you want to nominate some other version (a remix, an album version, etc), please make it clear in your post.

6) Remixes are treated as separate entries, if they were mixed by someone else than the track's original producer. You can nominate and vote for these kind of remixes separate from the original tune. However, extended versions, 12 inch mixes and other such versions mixed by the track's original producer do not count as separate mixes.

7) The nominations close on Friday, the 1st of November.

Now go on, start diggin' those grooves!

I'm not nearly qualified to vote, but I'm looking forward to the results.

I'm sure most ILXors know plenty of good disco tunes, so everyone is qualified to vote.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 18:56 (twelve years ago)

This song is credited to both The Joubert Singers and Celestial Choir, but they are the same band. It's often miscredited as having been remixed by Larry Levan, but apparently that isn't true, and Levan's names was only added to some bootleg versions of the single to improve sales. There's also a later version of the tune produced by Tony Humphries that has a different, synth-heavy sound.

Had always sort of wondered about this.

I've only discovered this track Paulinho Da Costa did with Philip Bailey within the last year, but it took no time at all to become one of my favorite disco tracks:

2) The poll is for tracks released between 1972 and 1984 only.

Tough but fair.

1) You can nominate up to 12 tracks.

Diabolical!

flopson, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 19:22 (twelve years ago)

I probably won't even use all 12 of my allotted noms. Or I might. But I probably won't.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 19:22 (twelve years ago)

sounds like you really know a lot about disco

flopson, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 19:23 (twelve years ago)

I'm going to have to rethink what I nominate and when.

Please for the love of God let ballots be at least 50 slots!

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)

I was considering between the 10 and 15 noms, 12 felt like a nice compromise. But if it looks like there haven't been enough nominations by November 1st, I may consider giving you some extra. But let's see first what people do with those 12 noms.

why do you get to nominate 613 tracks & we only get 12 each?

I get this point, but there are many tunes among those 613 I don't like at all. It's supposed to be a list of my favourites, I simply tried to compile a reasonably comprehensive list of well-known underground and mainstream disco tunes. Like I said, in some earlier polls I've noticed some very obvious choices have been left out altogether because people tend to nominate less known, more personal favourites, so the point of the list is to stop that from happening.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)

if you're gonna post youtube embeds can you at least type out the names so we can ctrl+F them

fresh (crüt), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:07 (twelve years ago)

No embeds on the thread, please. You can start a separate campaigning thread if you want to post them, or simply post non-embedded links.

Also, please post your nominations as text, not as Youtube links. I don't want to start compiling the noms various links, they should all be written in this thread.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:08 (twelve years ago)

if you're gonna post youtube embeds can you at least type out the names so we can ctrl+F them

This is a good point too. Just write down your nominations, it shouldn't be too much trouble.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:09 (twelve years ago)

Johnny Fever, did you mean to nominate that Paulinho da Costa tune?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:13 (twelve years ago)

Paulinho Da Costa - Déjà vu

1/12

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:14 (twelve years ago)

George Benson - Give Me The Night
KC & the Sunshine Band - Keep It Comin' Love
Frankie Smith - Double Dutch Bus

3/12

fresh (crüt), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:14 (twelve years ago)

here are two noms off the top of my head, seem like some fairly big omissions:

Claudja Berry - Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes (1978)
La Flavour - Mandolay (1980)

chilli, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:15 (twelve years ago)

ok ok:

tamiko jones - can't live without your love
john davis & the monster orchestra - love magic
powerline - double journey
chic - i want your love
eddie kendricks - going up in smoke
johnny mathis - it's alright to love me
advance - take me to the top
ashford & simpson - bourgie bourgie

(8/12)

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:16 (twelve years ago)

Phreek - Weekend

Spectrum, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)

Or Something, the Advance track is already on the list, so you have 5 noms left.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:20 (twelve years ago)

I'd like to submit a track for debate before formally nominating it: Kiss - I Was Made for Lovin' You

y/n?

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:25 (twelve years ago)

Frankie Smith - Double Dutch Bus

This is a borderline case, but I think the case can be made that fits here. I do hope, though, that anyone who thinks of nominating any tune with rapping really considers whether or not it's disco before posting it here.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:30 (twelve years ago)

Hard to find stuff that's not on the list ... let's see...

Convertion - Let's Do It
Sylvia Love - Instant Love

Spectrum, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:31 (twelve years ago)

I've nothing against that Kiss tune. In fact I was kinda hoping that you folks would nominate some rock-disco hybrids that I might've forgotten about, as my knowledge of rock music is weak.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

the groove on "Double Dutch Bus" is pretty firmly on the disco end of boogie imo. as is the rapping.

fresh (crüt), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:39 (twelve years ago)

a few more big ones (up to 7 now):
Vicki Sue Robinson - Turn the Beat Around (1976)
Tina Charles - I Love to Love (But My Baby Loves to Dance) (1976)
The Four Seasons - December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night) (1975)
Love Unlimited - High Steppin', Hip Dressin' Fella (You Got It Together) (1979)
Barry White - Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe (1974)

chilli, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:39 (twelve years ago)

Great list Tuomas. There's not much I want that isn't on there, but:

Rolling Stones - Miss You
Eagles - One Of These Nights
Chic - My Feet Keep Dancing

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:41 (twelve years ago)

Do we have to use your nomination list only?

jetfan, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:49 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas's master list + what gets nominated in this thread.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:50 (twelve years ago)

Definitely:
Turn the Beat Around - Vicki Sue Robinson
Night Fever - Bee Gees
Get Down Tonight & That's The Way - KC & The Sunshine Band
Can't Get Enough - Barry White

Yep, keeping this to 12 is gonna be tough. I could go 20 easily.

jetfan, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:55 (twelve years ago)

candido - thousand fingered man
francine mcgee - delirium
odyssey - inside out

(10/12)

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 20:56 (twelve years ago)

a couple of tunes that never get called Disco but seem to fit:

Grace Jones - Pull Up To The Bumper
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 21:14 (twelve years ago)

Also who is Jive Talking credited to? I don't see it on the list.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)

Ismael, there are a kazillion differen mixes of "Relax", which one do you want to nominate?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 21:19 (twelve years ago)

Leif Garrett - I Was Made For Dancin' (1978)
Andy Gibb - An Everlasting Love (1978)
Hot Chocolate - So You Win Again (1977)

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

I am disco-ignorant and won't be nominating anything on my own, so I can use my noms for overflow tracks by people who know their stuff and have to stop at 12.

I don't see Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From" on the list or in this thread. To me, it's very much disco, or at least a precursor. But I don't know--someone else might place it at the pop end of the singer-songwriter genre. When it was on the radio in 1976, it sure felt like early disco.

can I rep the entire first side of Cerrone 3 as "Cerrone - Supernature / Sweet Drums / In The Smoke", as an alternative to just Supernature? It's one continuous piece. but not if it's going to lead to vote-splitting, I guess.

if freestyle is allowed, does this cover Lookout Weekend and When I Hear Music by Debbie Deb? should the populace vote on this?

note that Jimmy Ross' First True Love Affair has a Larry Levan mix, which might be the version ppl know. It certainly is for me.

also the Bobby O version of West End Girls is a completely different recording, not a mix, from the hit version. Orlando still controls the original master, not EMI or the PSB.

anonymous jazz majors (Matt P), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 23:06 (twelve years ago)

Because it doesn't even remotely sound like disco--it's like asking why I'd be surprised if someone told me there's a disco remix of, I don't know, "Fire and Rain." I'm not putting it down or anything; I'm intrigued. And if Boney M can turn "Heart of Gold" into disco, then it can be done with anything--that's what disco did, I realize that. It was just instinctive surprise about a song I've loved for a long time, with about three seconds' worth of thought behind it. "Doesn't get disco" struck me as silly.

anonymous jazz majors (Matt P), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 23:26 (twelve years ago)

This intersection is too perfect to let pass: my favorite scene in my favorite disco movie (Boogie Nights) uses Eric Burdon's "Spill the Wine"--backed up by War! Speaking of which, don't know if Chakachas' "Jungle Fever" counts...maybe too early, or more funk than disco.

Lee626, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 23:32 (twelve years ago)

I'm never sure at both ends of the timeline: not clear where proto-disco ends and actual disco begins, or where disco stops officially being disco and turns into dance music or whatever other name it goes under at whatever time in the '80s.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 23:32 (twelve years ago)

"more funk than disco"

I'm having second thoughts about The Gap Band because of this. only, if it's discoish and recorded in the early 80's it should count. right?

g simmel, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 23:34 (twelve years ago)

don't care much for the funk / disco divide personally, why do genres have to split up. gap band should totally be included!

The early eighties nexus of R&B and disco produced stunning moments (Gap Band, Chaka Khan, EW&F's last big hits, "Let It Whip").

note that Jimmy Ross' First True Love Affair has a Larry Levan mix, which might be the version ppl know. It certainly is for me.

This is indeed the version that is supposed to be on the list, so I added "Larry Levan Mix" to the track title.

also the Bobby O version of West End Girls is a completely different recording, not a mix, from the hit version. Orlando still controls the original master, not EMI or the PSB.

Thanks for the info, I changed the note to reflect this.

I didn't originally add "Burn Rubber" and "Early in the Mornin'" (and "You Dropped a Bomb on Me") on the list exactly because I felt they're funk rather than disco. But I added those two tracks now since you nominated them, though you can still cancel that nomination, if you want to?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 08:02 (twelve years ago)

I'm regretting that I blew through most of my nominations so quickly last night (though I love everything I nominated), I keep thinking of other tracks that should be on the list. I was planning to wait a bit and see if other people nominated some of the tracks I wanted to free up more spaces for my other choices, but I got over excited ;_;

1) HighWire - Linda Carr & the Love Squad
2) Blue Monday - New Order
3) Get Dancing (pts 1&2) - Disco Tex and his Sex-O-Lettes
4) Disco Stomp - Hamilton Bohannon
5) DyNoMite - Tony Camillo / Bazuka
6) Strewberry Letter 23 - The Brothers Johnson
7) Swing Yr Daddy - Jim Gilstrap
8) From Here to Eternity - Giorgio Moroder
9) Kristallo - Kraftwerk
10) Use it up / Wear it out - Odyssey
11) Queen of Clubs - KC & Sunshine Band
12) Superstition - Stevie Wonder

I think that about covers it..

Mark G, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 08:26 (twelve years ago)

This might be overkill, and maybe it should be after this poll so as not to steal it's thunder, but at some stage I'd love a thread dedicated to stuff that falls just outside the 1972-84 restrictions, there are so many great tracks that I checked that came out in 1985!

Mark G, I'm not sure if you're joking here? I specifically said in the initial post that this thread should be for disco only, not electro or new wave etc, and a lot of the stuff you nominated is exactly that. (And most of the proper disco tunes you have on your list have already been nominated.) I mean, if you really, really think Can or Public Image Limited or Kraftwerk fit this poll, okay, I'll add those tunes, but I'd urge you to reconsider.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 08:44 (twelve years ago)

A lot?

I'd give you 9 from the original list, and maybe not PIL, but I'd argue that Can one is very disco.

(back me up someone..)

Oh yeah, BLue Monday I guess...

Swap that one for Shack-Up A Certain Ratio, or something.

Mark G, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 10:46 (twelve years ago)

Maybe you could just compose a new nomination list? Now I'm not sure what should be substituted with what...

Tuomas, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 10:51 (twelve years ago)

if i didn't nominate plus two 'melody' cos i didn't think it was disco enough then you're not getting 'shack up' or 'death disco' or 'blue monday' ffs.

Ooh, I knew I forgot something! This one of those obvious tunes that should've been on the list to begin with, so you don't have to spend your nomination for it.

KC & The Sunshine Band - Get Down Tonight
Blondie - Heart of Glass
Heatwave - Boogie Nights
Kool & The Gang - Jungle Boogie
Ohio Players - Love Rollercoaster

Yeah, I don't think it's disco either, but I'm gonna add it because Mark nominated it... But the "automatic addition" rule I stated above only applies to proper disco singles that were top 5 hits, not to borderline cases. They still need to be nominated by individual posters.

Too bad the 1984 cutoff date excludes most of the best italo disco tracks, such as
Laserdance - Humanoid Invasion (1986)
Koto - Visitors (1985)
Sabrina - Boys (1987)
Baltimora - Tarzan Boy (1985)

Siegbran, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 12:43 (twelve years ago)

Luigi Nono, le petit robot, actually (seandalai), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 13:04 (twelve years ago)

I'm pretty sure these 12 fit the 1984 cutoff:
Venise - Playboy
Q - The Voice Of Q
Ken Laszlo - Hey Hey Guy
Valerie Dore - The Night
Azoto - Exalt, Exalt
Fun Fun - Colour My Love
Blue Russell - I Wanna Fly Away
Scotch - Penguins Invasion
Modern Talking - You're My Heart, You're My Soul
Fockewulf 190 - Gitano
Savage - Only You
Sly & Hunter - No More Vision

Italo disco seems criminally underrepresented in the noms so far, i thought the tunes below are pretty canonical?
B.W.H. - Stop
My Mine - Hypnotic Tango
Miko Mission - How Old Are You?
Bolero - I Wish
Klein & MBO - Dirty Talk
Dyva - Clap Again
Clio - Eyes
Black Devil Disco Club - One To Choose
La Bionda - Wanna Be Your Lover

Cyber People - Polaris
Trans-X - Living On Video

Tuomas remove the Gap Band singles then and add Do I Do (the only Stevie single that should be eligible imo) and Never Too Much (an obvious pick surely?)

I was planning to wait a bit and see if other people nominated some of the tracks I wanted to free up more spaces for my other choices, but I got over excited ;_;

^^^ there are sooo many disco tracks. once you through in italo...

There's gonna be a separate Italo poll later on, I think? I didn't want to exclude Italo from this altogether, but the focus should be on "classic" disco.

i think every return to disco brings back a new text which is a function of what's current and valued now and an intersection of time, place and people then. and everything in between i guess.

Wolff@Inquisitr.com (Matt P), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

like now there are a million flavors of disco depending on who's doing the collecting, focusing on what clubs/scenes, and all of them were happening sort of concurrently. sorry for *thoughts on disco*

MarkoP, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

i think in that sense PiL or Can aren't off the map imo, they were danced to at parties and clubs in that era, which i think that phenomenon along with general time and place parameters make more sense as primary divisions, not "sound" which gets arbitrary very quickly. you can police a certain sound as "classic," which is a loaded term, or point to the radio format or to specific clubs/scenes but there are always countercurrents, although obviously the influence ran both ways and nothing happened in a vacuum.

Wolff@Inquisitr.com (Matt P), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:36 (twelve years ago)

I've been thinking about how a track like "Wheel Me Out" by Material fits into this. That track (plus everything else on that Dance Ze Beat comp) was hugely influential to me, maybe the first record I bought because I heard/ danced to it in a club. Is that rock-gone-disco? New wave?

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:37 (twelve years ago)

Ach, that was by Was Not Was, sorry. Although "Bustin' Out" by Material too.

Sir Lord Baltimora (Myonga Vön Bontee), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:50 (twelve years ago)

i feel like all of that new york stuff definitely fits... rock was played at dance clubs from the start iirc and as the whole thing happened rock, especially in new york, responded to the general beat it was rubbing shoulders with. i do feel like new wave was a little bit different, like it was sort of "next generation" of dance after hoarier disco hits. kind of similar to house in that respect, like the whiter version of house, just to be polemic.

Wolff@Inquisitr.com (Matt P), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

By classic I meant mostly the "classic disco era", i.e. the time when disco music was the most popular form of dance music... It was a response to Siegbran's comment that too many Italo tunes came after 1984. Though I do think there is also a "proper" disco sound, and as far as we're trying to define disco as a genre and not a scene (and I do think we should think of it as a genre here, because the scene is long gone, and trying to define which songs were part of it and which weren't seems like an impossible task), we do have to think about the specifics of the sound too.

I feel that "proper" disco of the "classic" era always maintained some sort of a connection to soul and funk, even with Euro artists like Boney M or Baccara, but at some point some disco offshoots (like some types of Italo) went so far away from that connection that I feel they're not disco anymore. (And this isn't to say the "proper" disco is better or worse, it's merely a matter of genre definition.) Take songs like "You're My Heart, You're My Soul" or Sabrina's "Boys": it's true they wouldn't exist without disco, but I don't here any soul or fun roots in them, to me they are synth pop or dance pop, not disco anymore.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)

i agree with you t, i find this stuff fun to talk about.

Wolff@Inquisitr.com (Matt P), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:14 (twelve years ago)

at least re: the years. you have to make a division somewhere if you're measuring something and that's a workable one to make with disco, i think. connection to funk/soul on the other hand i think is a bit harder to pin down.

Wolff@Inquisitr.com (Matt P), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)

By classic I meant mostly the "classic disco era", i.e. the time when disco music was the most popular form of dance music...

When was that though? And where was that? I'm just curious.

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:28 (twelve years ago)

(xpost) Yeah, I think it's fun to talk about too. The Was (Not Was) song is something I danced to in clubs in '81, often segued between more "proper" disco sounds, yet the rock guitar, processed trumpet and non-sequitur lyrics ("I'm a former scientist, now on wheels") seem to derive from Talking Heads, not classic disco. I'm certainly voting for it if it's eligible.

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:30 (twelve years ago)

If you spot any other disco single that was a top 5 hit in the USA or UK, but it isn't on the list yet, just let me know. I'll add those to the list automatically, you don't have to spend your nomination on them.

Can't Give You Anything (But My Love) by The Stylistics was no.1 in the UK.

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 17:47 (twelve years ago)

As I started jotting down contenders, I realized many of them were from 1981, which iirc was the year that I started paying attention to more dance music, via its infiltration into "rock discos," Minneapolis sound, etc. It would be a much shorter list if I kept my choices to, say, 1979 and prior.

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 18:11 (twelve years ago)

I noticed some more people have nominated stuff that was already on the list. Besides the ones I've already mentioned, these three get extra noms too:

The Late Great: 1 extra nomination ("At Midnight" already nominated.)

Sic: 1 extra nomination ("Kiss Me Again" already nominated.)

Siegbran: 2 extra nominations ("Hey Hey Guy" and "The Night" already nominated.)

From circa 78 until 88 when acid house and techno blew away the old disco format (mix of older and recent disco hits, dj talking over the music, couple of slow jams, the whole greaser aesthetic) almost overnight as a mainstream thing.

Siegbran, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

I'm trying to think of more rock/disco hybrids ... did Roxy Music ever have a disco phase? Nile is quite open about using them for the whole Chic aesthetic.

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 19:20 (twelve years ago)

78-88 for "classic disco era" seems a bit unintuitive...the Loft started in 1970, "Rock the Boat" was #1 in 1974, Disco Demolition Night was 1979, by the 80s disco dancing was no longer mainstream and the dance music that was being produced had for the most part lost the "classic" sound (and the budget) of the songs that everyone associates with "disco" music.

And the "classic sound" went from the massed strings of Cerrone, to the James Brown-inspired funk of KC and the Sunshine Band to Moroder electronica. And by the early 80s, those artists were being spun alongside "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow. (xpost)

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)

I'm finding it surprisingly hard to think of more rock/disco hybrids. The whole UK punk scene didn't have the chops for disco; insofar as they did move in that direction, it mostly came out as skittery post-punk. The pre-punk acts were mostly killed off or stayed in their rock niches. Other than The Stones, the ones who floated above - Bowie, McCartney, Zep - didn't really go there as such, though they might have taken funk on board.

I suspect there might be more in the US, but the whole strain of macho and/or authentic rock types are what I know and they didn't really touch it either I don't think - I'm thinking Springsteen, Neil Young - and I can't think of acts outside that tradition. No doubt there are some, but I'm not seeing it. As for US punk, I've only got Blondie.

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:25 (twelve years ago)

Low down bad refrigerator (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

xp doobie brothers, rod stewart, the aforementioned war, boz scaggs. but yeah, 'disco sucks' and the classic rock format at the time (77-80) seem pretty solidly on the side of feeding off of anti-gay anti-black sentiment (to neil's credit he did do trans way later, which doesn't remotely sound like disco but takes some cues i think, he was always sort of on his own wavelength anyway). going more underground w/ new wave, talking heads, devo, blondie, madonna, and post-punk, which i feel like embraced the energy of disco but had a more self-reflexive relationship with the radio format, and it's more of an influence. big, broad strokes here obv. xp to ismael

MarkoP, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

I wrote about this on some other thread--would be interested in hearing from someone else who was around and listening to the radio in the mid-late '70s--but I don't think rock people hating disco was nearly as automatic as generally described. I was a rock guy in high school: Neil Young, Aerosmith, metal, art-rock, etc. Went to rock concerts, never set foot in a disco. (Too young anyway.) But I was still aware of the hits of the day, and I in no way hated disco music. (A few years later, I was much more snobbish as a punk fan making fun of new wave.) I loved a lot of the hits then, still do. I just started my ballot, and was able to jot down almost 20 songs right away. That almost never happens with me with these polls--maybe three or four times. Usually I have to scramble to get to 10.

The ugly backlash was definitely real, but I don't think it was close to ubiquitous.

clemenza, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:19 (twelve years ago)

There are still a lot of major, prime-disco era hit records conspicuously absent from this massive list. But I've used up my 12 nominations, so should I just be quiet?

Josefa, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

Big hits can still be suggested for addition nomination-free.

With that in mind I was going to recommend Copacabana (extended version) by Barry Manilow but it apparently only peaked at no.8 on original release. Not sure whether its subsequent ubiquity would still qualify it.

Clemenza, I was conflicted about disco in the late 70s. I listened to a lot of soul and funk music throughout the 70s and resented how disco had pushed many of my favorites off the radio ( i.e. Aretha, Curtis, Philly Intl.) or had forced artists I loved into a style that I felt didn't suit them (Spinners and many others). But I was still going to the dance clubs every weekend and the power of something like Mighty Real or I Want Your Love was undeniable. Most of my friends at the time rejected disco uncategorically, but their thinking was eventually turned around by bands like Talking Heads and Blondie eating away at that prejudice. Plus the fact that beyond the simple racism the anti-disco movement seemed so profoundly stoopid and incoherent. I mean, Chic's "Good Times" vs. DOA's "Disco Sucks". Which side are you on?

ρεμπετις, Thursday, 17 October 2013 00:29 (twelve years ago)

I don't really remember any kind of a backlash at my own high school, but I graduated in '79, before Steve Dahl and all that. (My high school was also small-town and as white as could be--the backlash maybe just passed us by.) As I've mentioned before, I think movies are tied in with how much I liked certain songs, Looking for Mr. Goodbar especially (also SNF, of course, and "Good Times" in North Dallas Forty).

Ramnaresh Samhain (ShariVari), Thursday, 17 October 2013 07:33 (twelve years ago)

78-88 for "classic disco era" seems a bit unintuitive...the Loft started in 1970, "Rock the Boat" was #1 in 1974, Disco Demolition Night was 1979, by the 80s disco dancing was no longer mainstream

Well the Loft was there but calling disco "mainstream" even by 1974 is a bit of a stretch. And while by the mid 80s the trendier clubs were playing Front 242 and Sisters Of Mercy, the average punter wasn't going to goth nights, he was still driving his Manta or Trans Am to the local disco on a Saturday. The retconned narrative that disco was "dead by 1980" is just as flawed as the notion that hiphop is dead post-1990s. Someone was pushing Righeira, Fun Fun and Sabrina to the the top of the charts.

I am aware that (also back then) there were always disco purists who dismissed synths and drum machines and thought the only authentic disco music was American and black.

I would have said 1975-1979, but I'm no expert

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Thursday, 17 October 2013 07:57 (twelve years ago)

Lowdown is a top 5 Billboard hit (one that everyone will vote for) so it needs to be on the list

g simmel, Thursday, 17 October 2013 09:35 (twelve years ago)

Lowdown by who?

Wire, obv

Boz Skaggs

Mark G, Thursday, 17 October 2013 09:55 (twelve years ago)

I find it kinda interesting that so far no one (AFAIK) has nominated any of those 00s "disco edits" of old tunes, even though the rules would allow that. Weren't they quite popular among ILXors a few years ago?

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 09:56 (twelve years ago)

uh, no?

(tbqh, I don't know what sort of thing you mean)

Mark G, Thursday, 17 October 2013 09:57 (twelve years ago)

like AOR Disco? They can be excellent but are plainly not what this poll is about

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 17 October 2013 10:01 (twelve years ago)

even though the rules would allow that

you said legit remixes of disco songs, not people making bootlegs out of any genre of song inna disco stylee

I'm not a rockist, I just hate Rap-A-Lot (sic), Thursday, 17 October 2013 10:09 (twelve years ago)

the world of disco edits is way beyond the scope of the poll, and the line between edit, remix, and sampling is too blurry to deal with. it would be completely overwhelming to try to consider them in comparison to the classic disco tracks and they should be evaluated on different terms, imo.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Thursday, 17 October 2013 10:20 (twelve years ago)

Okay. TBH, I'm not that familiar with the whole disco edit scene. I thought people would complain if they couldn't be nominated, that was the biggest reason I came up with the "post 1984 remixes are valid" rule (that, and to allow those awesome new Tom Moulton mixes to be included).

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 10:42 (twelve years ago)

I'm guessing that "extended version" (not a special remix, just a longer version than what appeared on an album or what got played on the radio) is a given with many of these songs? I've got short versions of "I Feel Love," "Good Times," and others, and also much longer versions. The longer versions are of course much better. One case where it really makes a difference for me is in comparing the (fairly long) original of the O'Jays' "I Love Music" to the three-minutes-longer version found on Philadelphia Classics. I came to the song via the latter, which is epic in a way the original isn't.

clemenza, Thursday, 17 October 2013 11:50 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, like I said the in the initial post, the assumption is with that every track nominated we're talking about the 12″/extended version, unless otherwise specified. With some tracks though (such as Tantra's "The Hills of Katmandu", Montana's "Dance Fantasy", and several tracks produced by Boris Midney), I included the album version, since it was longer. The 12″ version of "The Hills of Katmandu" is only 6 minutes, while the album version lasts for epic 16 minutes. I'm assuming that when it comes to disco, most people prefer the longer edits, though anyone is free to disagree with me on that.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:02 (twelve years ago)

There are a few short edits I actually prefer, but wouldn't go against the grain on in the form of voting -- "Love Hangover" for one.

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:02 (twelve years ago)

Which will be top 10 for me either way.

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:03 (twelve years ago)

Oops--missed the clarification in the intro. (You just reminded me that I need to drop something from my list to make room for "Love Hangover.")

clemenza, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:22 (twelve years ago)

With The O'Jays, I also made the (possibly) controversial decision of including a couple of tracks (Back Stabbers, Love Train) as the new Tom Moulton remixes, instead of the original versions. The original versions of those came out before the 12 inch single era, and they only last 3 minutes, so they feel more like proto-disco soul than proper disco to me. Whereas the new Tom Moulton mixes, even though they're from this decade, are very tastefully done and don't differ sonically from other Philly International mixes Moulton actually did in the 1970s, so they feel more like "proper" disco tunes to me. But if someone thinks the original 3 minute versions should be in the poll too, feel free to nominate them.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:23 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas - just collect votes for any version, and include a note in the results for which ones were specified? Might be easier.

(Although after-the-fact ones shouldn't count for that.)

ͼѾͽ (sic), Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:25 (twelve years ago)

Also, since it doesn't look there's gonna be the deluge of nominations I feared for, I'm gonna extend the number of nominations to 20. So feel free to nominate more tunes; if you're already used your 12, you get 8 more.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:26 (twelve years ago)

Tuomas - just collect votes for any version, and include a note in the results for which ones were specified? Might be easier.

Yeah, like I said in the initial post, I'm gonna do this with tunes where the extended version was mixed by the same producer(s) as the short versions. But it is my opinion that remixes by outside mixers (including Tom Moulton) are and should be treated as separate entities, so you'll have to vote for them separately.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:29 (twelve years ago)

I agree with sic here...if I vote for "Love Train" I'm thinking of the classic version - I haven't even heard the Moulton mix. But if Tuomas votes for "Love Train" he's thinking of the remix. Obviously we both think "Love Train" is awesome.

Luigi Nono, le petit robot, actually (seandalai), Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:31 (twelve years ago)

With The O'Jays, I also made the (possibly) controversial decision of including a couple of tracks (Back Stabbers, Love Train) as the new Tom Moulton remixes, instead of the original versions.

Sorry, I made a mistake here: the Tom Moulton "Love Train" mix is actually from the 1977, as it was included on Philadelphia Classics. The "Back Stabbers" mix is a new one.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:38 (twelve years ago)

So there are still two version of "Love Train": the original 3 minute track from 1973, and the 6 minute Moulton remix from 1977. I'd assume a lot of people are more familiar with the Moulton mix? But feel free to nominate the original 3 minute version too, if you want it in.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:40 (twelve years ago)

OK, I've let enough people handle taking care of favorites for me. Returning the favor. Here are my first dozen. Saving the other 8 for the stuff I know I'm forgetting (still going to give the P&P catalog a good listen again to see what needs to for sure get nominated).

Roy Ayers, "Chicago"
Linda Clifford, "You Are, You Are"
Norman Connors, "Once I've Been There"
D Train, "Keep On"
Earth, Wind & Fire, "Can't Let Go"
Empress, "Dyin' To Be Dancin'"
Phillis Hyman, "You Know How To Love Me" [why is "Loving You - Losing You" nominated?]
Cheryl Lynn, "Star Love"
Alicia Myers, "I Want To Thank You"
Sharon Ridley, "Changin"
Patrice Rushen, "Haven't You Heard"
War, "Galaxy"

ewar woowar (or something), Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:14 (twelve years ago)

xp There isn't that much incentive to nominate extra mixes - I'd rather have *some* version of a song I love in the rollout than have two versions miss out due to vote splitting. Though I don't know where that leaves Cowley megamixes and such - obv they're very different, but are people going to vote for two "I Feel Love"s?

Anyway, some more nominations;

New York Community Choir - I'll Keep My Light In My Window (Disco Mix)
Jackson 5 - Forever Came Today
Chocolat's - Kings of Clubs
Lamont Dozier - Going Back To My Roots
TJM - I Don't Need No Music

why is "Loving You - Losing You" nominated?

because it is spectacular

Luigi Nono, le petit robot, actually (seandalai), Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:15 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, but it's a ballad. Of course, I may end up nominating Sister Sledge's "One More Time," so pay me no heed.

I know this isn't the official "campaigning" thread either, but I want to draw extra special attention toward "You Are, You Are." Written/produced by Curtis Mayfield (who later did his own only microscopically inferior version), this song never fails to make me fully ecstatic.

my number one though? probably My Feet Keep Dancing

Jamie_ATP, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:22 (twelve years ago)

but are people going to vote for two "I Feel Love"s?

I'm definitely gonna vote for both; possibly also for the two "Love is the Message"s and the two "Hills of Katmandu"s, if I can make them all fit in my ballot.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:22 (twelve years ago)

My Feet Keep Dancing is sensational. I had been planning to limit how much Chic I vote for, but that'd be dishonest. In that spirit:

Chic - Soup For One
Led Zeppelin - Trampled Underfoot

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:30 (twelve years ago)

IF TRAMPLED GETS IN, I'M RENOMINATING DEATH DISCO!!

Mark G, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:31 (twelve years ago)

How big will the ballot be?

Luigi Nono, le petit robot, actually (seandalai), Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)

Ha xp - it's the Earl's Court live version of Trampled Underfoot btw. I don't know that I'd like to be in a discotheque where it was playing, but someone on here once convinced me it was disco so I'm giving it the nod.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:35 (twelve years ago)

Okay, I listened to that, and I really don't think it should be nominated. There are already some kinda questionable tunes on the list, and I don't really want to open the floodgates for all sorts of not-really-disco. Please try to restrict your nominations to stuff that actually fits in the genre we're polling here.

Tuomas, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:40 (twelve years ago)

Yeah fair enough. Great performance though.

Have you actually heard the Patrick Cowley remix? Anyway, no one's forcing you to vote for remix, I'm sure the original I Feel Love will get plenty of votes anyway, with or without vote splitting.

Basically, I think a disco poll if anything is where the art of remixing should be appreciated - these guys started the whole thing! If you think that, say, mixes by Tom Moulton are just the same song at different length, I kinda feel you don't get what makes a disco song work.

Ari, as far as I know, "Get into Something" is from 1969, so it's not valid. (I wouldn't call it disco either, it's one of the funkiest soul tunes I've ever heard.)

being lazy here but has anyone nominated:

Dennis Parker - Like an Eagle
Master Force - Don't Fight the Feeling
Donald Byrd - Love Has Come Around
Peter Gordon and the Love of Life Orchestra - Beginning of the Heartbreak/Don't Don't

the Shearer of simulated snowsex etc. (Dwight Yorke), Friday, 18 October 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

I would not hesitate to say "Copacabana" should be a given. It was ubiquitous even back in '78. And these are all major in my book:

Bionic Boogie - Risky Changes
C.J & Company - Devil's Gun
Claudja Barry - Sweet Dynamite
Celi Bee & the Buzzy Bunch - Superman
Carol Douglas - Doctor's Orders
France Joli - Come to Me
Penny McLean - Lady Bump
Ritchie Family - Brazil
Salsoul Orchestra - Tangerine
Silver Convention - Get Up and Boogie (That's Right)

― Josefa, 17. lokakuuta 2013 2:42 Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Sorry, when you posted above, I thought "these are all major" meant you were simply saying they were big tunes, I didn't know you were actually nominating them. That said, you had already nominated 12 tunes before, and now your new list has 12 more... So you need to reduce the new list to 8 tunes, because 20 is the upper limit.

Tuomas, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:14 (twelve years ago)

Dennis Parker - Like an Eagle
Master Force - Don't Fight the Feeling
Donald Byrd - Love Has Come Around
Peter Gordon and the Love of Life Orchestra - Beginning of the Heartbreak/Don't Don't

I'm updating the nomination list all the time, it's here. And you can use CTRL + F on it.

Tuomas, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

But if you're being lazy, "Like an Eagle" and "Love Has Come Around" are on the list, I don't think the other two are.

Tuomas, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:21 (twelve years ago)

you had already nominated 12 tunes before, and now your new list has 12 more

Oh OK, I meant that those tunes were obvious ones that should have been on the original list, in which case they wouldn't count against my nominations. (I asked about that procedural point, but we missed each other). If I have to subtract four noms I would take out -

C.J. and Company - Devil's Gun
Carol Douglas - Doctor's Orders
Salsoul Orchestra - Tangerine
Silver Convention - Get Up and Boogie (which actually did make the list b/c someone else nominated it)

Josefa, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)

So is the deal that if a song was a chart hit then it gets a free pass onto the nomination list? I'd like to submit this one:

LTD - (Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love Again

30 seconds to the return of bruno (Spectrist), Friday, 18 October 2013 17:33 (twelve years ago)

So is the deal that if a song was a chart hit then it gets a free pass onto the nomination list?

Apparently this is not the case, which is what I misunderstood. (There are still many #1 Dance hits that haven't made the list).

Josefa, Friday, 18 October 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)

At the risk of splitting the Donna Summer vote even further, this should really be in there:

Donna Summer - down deep inside 18/20

ewar woowar (or something), Friday, 18 October 2013 18:09 (twelve years ago)

Bionic Boogie - Cream Always Rises to the Top

7/20

Spectrum, Friday, 18 October 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

hi can someone confirm we are nominating TWENTY songs and not TWELVE?

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Friday, 18 October 2013 21:31 (twelve years ago)

Yes, it's twenty.

Ramnaresh Samhain (ShariVari), Friday, 18 October 2013 21:32 (twelve years ago)

So is the deal that if a song was a chart hit then it gets a free pass onto the nomination list?

Apparently this is not the case, which is what I misunderstood. (There are still many #1 Dance hits that haven't made the list).

I said that if you know a song was a top 5 hit in the USA or UK (meaning the official single chart, not dance chart or club chart or what have you), you can mention it here and I'll add it to the list. I checked the list of tunes you posted when you said they were major, but I don't think any of them reached top 5, so I didn't add them then. "(Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love Again" apparently was a top 4 hit, though, so I'll put that on the list.

Tuomas, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

The idea wasn't that every dance hit ever should automatically be on the list; you still need to nominate them. (And running the poll is pretty time-consuming business, I simply don't have the extra time to try to research all the disco tunes that might've been hits somewhere.) I just wanted to avoid the situation that I've seen happen with some other polls, where some very ubiquitous tune is missing from the list, (because folks are more likely to nom personal favourites than big hits), and people are like, "how did we miss that"?

Tuomas, Friday, 18 October 2013 21:59 (twelve years ago)

Raffaella Carra - Rumore

three times a LAD (seandalai), Monday, 21 October 2013 01:19 (twelve years ago)

Yeah I had checked that too... I probably didn't have the updated version.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 21 October 2013 04:17 (twelve years ago)

LeRoo, "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" was released in 1968, so it's not valid. (And it's not really disco, is it?)

"Dress You Up" is a borderline case, it wasn't released as a single until 1985, but it was an album track on Like a Virgin (which came out in 1984), so I'll allow it.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 October 2013 05:50 (twelve years ago)

"Dress You Up" is a borderline case

I see what you did there.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 October 2013 05:53 (twelve years ago)

Haha. It always sounded to me like her most disco song, probably because of Nile Rodgers.

As for "Aquarius", my bad. I used to hear it all the time at disco themed parties or even on disco radio shows (though you're right it's not really disco), so I assumed it came out in the 70's.

LeRooLeRoo, Monday, 21 October 2013 06:17 (twelve years ago)

Now that I think of it, I guess the "Let the Sunshine" part of the song is kinda proto-discoish, I can imagine it being mixed to a proper disco tune. But proto-disco (or post-disco) isn't what this poll is about, that's why I set the year limits.

I'm not *banning* Euro-disco from my ballot per se. It's just that I don't like it as much as the American R&B-leaning stuff.

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 17:52 (twelve years ago)

i love it all, it just seems odd to include like a Savage track alongside "hit and run", idk.

brimstead, Wednesday, 23 October 2013 17:57 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, I have a pretty classicist 70s/NYC-centric conception of the genre. Kano/Casco/etc are just something else completely. I mean I even decided to cut "Menergy" because it doesn't fit imo (though mostly because I needed to start cutting *somewhere*).

Luigi Nono le petit robot, actually, saves Christmas (seandalai), Wednesday, 23 October 2013 18:07 (twelve years ago)

I have to admit that I too find often find the synth-heavy, minimally arranged 80s Italo kinda off-putting and cold and detached... I dunno why this is, because I love techno and trance, but I guess the the generic, unflourished vocals often found in these tunes is a contributing factor. I don't much care for 80s British synth pop like Depeche Mode or Human League for the same resons. OTOH, some of my favourite disco tunes are epic Euro style tracks where the synth riffs are part of a large arrangement with sweeping strings and funk basslines and corny purple prose lyrics, stuff like Tantra or Boris Midney's various projects. I guess I'm fine with detachment and coldness and minimalism in purely electronic music, but with disco I prefer a bit of humanity.

Yeah, if they were released only after 1984, they're not eligible.

Tuomas, Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:31 (twelve years ago)

Thewufs, "Sunset Driver" by Michael Jackson may have been recorded in the 1970s, but I can't find any info that it was released until 2004. So unless you can prove it was actually released between 1972 and 1984, it's not valid.

Tuomas, Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:32 (twelve years ago)

Kitchen Person, "Romeo & Juliet" by Alec R. Costandinos was already nommed, so you get one extra nomination.

Tuomas, Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:33 (twelve years ago)

The track list should now be up to date. Only two days left to nominate!

Tuomas, Thursday, 31 October 2013 08:34 (twelve years ago)

So we have hundreds of nominations and somehow none yet for this prime early disco hit, no less from someone who was at least as much a trailblazer as Moulton or Moroder or anyone else I can think of:

Silvia - Pillow Talk

- i'll also nominate:
Cher - Take Me Home
Jackson 5 - Dancing Machine
Four Seasons, The - Who Loves You

finally a couple of TV show theme songs, not sure if they intrinsically qualify but both of these are prime disco grooves that were extended to full-length tracks, issued on 45s, and were hits in some countries:

Sammy Davis Jr. - Baretta's Theme (written by Dave Grusin and Morgan Ames)
Jack Jones - The Love Boat theme (written by Paul Williams and Charles Fox)

Will have my other 8 nominations set in stone in a little bit. Making a lot of disco ball Sophie's choices.

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Thursday, 31 October 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

I've been wavering on whether to nominate the first two, but on the "crossovers more disco than rock" principle:

Public Image Ltd - Swan Lake
Gang of Four - I Love a Man in Uniform

and, on gr8080's behalf:

Tamiko Jones - Let it Flow

This is an amazing list of noms, well done all.

Tim F, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:46 (twelve years ago)

I've been wavering on whether to nominate the first two, but on the "crossovers more disco than rock" principle:

Public Image Ltd - Swan Lake
Gang of Four - I Love a Man in Uniform

I listened to these two, and I don't think they're disco. "I Love a Man in Uniform" might be a borderline case, so I'll allow that, but "Swan Lake" is clearly new wave rock, which I said in the initial shouldn't be nominated in this poll. I know I said I wouldn't disqualify any nominations, but I have to draw the line somewhere, sorry. No "Swan Lake".

The same applies to "One of the Lads" by 4" be 2". I'm not sure if it was a joke nomination or something, but it's quite obviously not disco at all, so it's out.

Tuomas, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

In place of "Swan Lake," a crossover as much disco as jazz:

Sun Ra, "UFO"

(7/20)

Tuomas, Saturday, 2 November 2013 08:00 (twelve years ago)

Shit shit shit, so I was right about to post the following if they can squeak by - if not not, I understand:

Michael Jackson - Get On the Floor
The Jacksons - Wondering Who
The Jacksons - Your Ways
Donna Summer - Love Is In Control (Finger On the Trigger)
Earth, Wind and Fire - Fall in Love With Me

thewufs, Saturday, 2 November 2013 08:07 (twelve years ago)

Also, if you've never heard the Jacksons album Triumph, go out and buy that shit now. It's as good as Off the Wall - maybe better. There are no bad songs, no mediocre songs - even the ballad, "Time Waits for No One," is dope. That record is straight fire.

thewufs, Saturday, 2 November 2013 08:17 (twelve years ago)

Still not nominated:

C. J. & Company - Devil's Gun
Salsoul Orchestra - Tangerine

Josefa, Saturday, 2 November 2013 09:02 (twelve years ago)

Thewufs, I'll accept your last minute nominations, but they'll be the last tunes I'll add to the list. The nominations are closed, I'll try to start the voting thread later today.

Tuomas, Saturday, 2 November 2013 10:51 (twelve years ago)

Oog.... Inner Life tracks not nominated ("Moment of My Life," "I Like It Like That")

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Saturday, 2 November 2013 12:25 (twelve years ago)

"Moment of My Life" is on the list.

Tuomas, Saturday, 2 November 2013 16:19 (twelve years ago)

Oof forgot the entire point of my nominations post -- Donna McGhee "It Ain't No Big Thing". Killer Patrick Adams/Red Greg steez.

Completely agree with all of this.
