what drives me nuts about VB (aside from her permanent orange pallor) is that she's started giving interviews in which she expresses utter bafflement at her public image. like, she's just a "normal, boring" english girl, and why do people think she's such a cold diva, etc etc. it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that she's spent nearly a decade honing that persona. oh no. not at all.

Whereas the UK celeb press will HAMMER the girlfriend of a top player for not wearing high enough heels to the grocery store. I understand, linds, and you're right. The thing is that I guess I'm pretty contrived, too? I shave, I pluck, I make myself up, I bleach a stripe in my hair, I wear heels and plan my outfits obsessively and try on 4 different necklaces in the morning with three combinations of bangle bracelets and maybe the fence-net tights...I might not come out looking like all that but it all has to be right IN MY HEAD. So the "getting dressed as performance art" thing gets a little sympathy from me. Enough to extend to Dita, anyway.

i am so into dark/strong lips at the moment. my favorites are deep love (burgundy-brown) and russian red from mac and scarlet empress (purplish burgundy) and sayonara (dusty pink/coral) from nars.

Lauren, here's my dilemma: eyeliner with strong lips? I always feel it's too overdone on me, tho maybe that's because my life is fairly casual. I have exactly ONE tube of red lipstick and I play down the eyes when I wear it, but lately I'm devoted to my eyeliner and lips are neutral -- I have about 7 different shades of slightly pink lip gloss.

i once heard a rule that you should have paler/nude/sheer lips with a heavier eye, and lighter eye makeup when wearing red a red lip.

even though lohan is following that rule in the pic, i htink the lip is too overdone - if you are going to go that far, use a color. the heaviness of a light shade is overwhelmingly awful.

yeah, it's generally a good idea to keep the eye makeup more minimal if you're doing bold lips. that said, i watched part of bright young things last night, and emily mortimer had some great heavy/smoky eye and dark red lip combos. that's not an everyday look, though.

i used to be on the flipside of the aniston issue but i'm head over heels now. but yes, real person is her schtick -- there's a good quote in the article about it. I like Ms Knightley (in fact I just watched Pride & Prej so I could swoon over her a little) and I'm jealous of her perfectly behaving bangs, but that outfit just looks like she put some clothes on. Beige is deadly for fair-skinned people. I love that gentle champagne color but it makes me look like a primed canvas: blank.
