I like band Ts like I like shorts made of cut-off camo army pants: because they're super-casual and prone to be old and much-washed and good for making you feel like yr seeing the hidden/teenage/whatever side of someone who normally doesn't wear them.

i think i own four band tees - three of which came from a drug fueled shopping spree at the boredoms mersh table

as discussed on 77 i have 5 different misfits tees/parodies of misfits tees. the misfits tee is the greatest band tee ever imo

I have tons but only really wear them around the house or when slumming it. That's mostly because many of them are so old that it was before they made girl versions so they're big men's shirts.

I'm not anti-band shirts ever, but I find them most endearing when they're ACTUALLY from yr teenage-hood or are at least 10 years old and soft as anything.

I own about a dozen merch-purchased or homemade band shirts, and they're pretty much all I wear unless I'm going to work.

Last fall I went through this period of insecurity where I was like "man I dunno don't I need to start wearing like serious clothing now" and bought a bunch of muted button ups with patterns on them like I'd seen old guys in Poets & Writers Magazine wearing, but then I was like "wtf I'm 21 in a college town why the hell can't I wear my Melvins shirt to a restaurant."

nb: during this period I made lots of old band shirts into other shit. I now own a Power Quest throw pillow, a Coltrane apron (shirt was lolhueg gift) and a Napalm Death laptop slipcase.

i have to be honest, i don't think one should ever stop wearing them!

I'm 27 now, and I just bought another pair of baggy jeans... When should you start dressing like an adult?

It's funny that this thread got revived. Just the other day I was about to go shopping for some new stuff and I had a crisis about whether I was going to be buying faded jeans, band t-shirts & new Chucks or if I needed to go for dark jeans, button ups & some workboots or something.

I haven't gone shopping yet.

Also I have not worn shorts except around my house since 8th grade. No one understands why I refuse to wear them out.

I did have a major clearout of LOL Britpop shirts a few years back; most were freebies and I only vacillated about the Pulp one. I've still got a huge number of OG Smiths t-shirts and if I want to make my editor at ESM seethe with envy I wear the Smithdom Popsicle Boy shirt (I've given this guy a couple of my less essential ones out of the 20 or so I've had). Other than that, very well-worn xxl Confusion Is Sex shirt.

at this point mine are gym attire or sleepwear.

at one point when i was having a clear-out, my bf's mother insisted on taking a locust shirt (black with a large gold bug) because it was "so pretty." if you see a 70-yr old woman walking around manhattan wearing a locust baby tee, that's her.

ha, i was in a promotional video for my college wearing that shirt in red on black.

also still have the belt buckle.

99% of my tshirts are of bands or obscure(ish) artists. so classic! but then i only wear tshirts on the weekend so it's not exactly 'all the time'

i did merch a few times when some friends were playing with them so got a few odds 'n ends. the belt buckle and the soap have been sold.

I got a bunch of them because they have the AA women's cut which is thin, non-bunchy cotton and lot more flattering than regular tees. Plus, they are pretty and colorful and I actually like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Rilo Kiley, Stars and the other bands. Also I need to mention that guy in the photo above is cute.

At one point in the 90s, I had something like 7 Blur shirts, 5 Oasis, 3 Radiohead, 2 Pulp, and an Elastica shirt. All have disappeared over the years but the Elastica one remains part of my pyjamas: it's a men's XL blue shirt with a Vaseline bottle on it, with the word Elastica in its place.

Now... I have several Modest Mouse shirts, because I love the band and their shirts are generally pretty cool. My boyfriend's got a collection of Eisley ones for the same reason...

I do rock a beautiful Beatles messenger bag though.

I have the B&S shirt with the dancing couple but the fit is bad so it's PJs-only. Also have the Sinister album cover on a shirt but the area of printing is so big that it makes me sweat underneath it (cos it's really plastic-y). The problem is that it needs to be really really old and peeling, but I never wear it so it's not getting any more worn.

i have owned a lot of band t-shirts but i think the only ones i have left are a dirty-era sonic youth shirt i can't wear because it has massive holes in it, an "is terrified"-era dismemberment plan shirt, a newer mastodon shirt, and shirts for old friend bands - i have two of the same "how the west was lost" shirt, and they are both bright orange.

i also have a b&s shirt that i got in like 99/00? the study at stow blue one. hard to tell it's a b&s shirt, and i still like it, but it is not really wearable anymore due to wearing it on bike rides etc :/

i have a skinny puppy shirt mostly purchased because i thought at the time it'd be out of the ordinary.. and a liars shirt.. that's pretty much it now. it used to be super hard to find any band shirts in a normal size! gave away pavement & pj harvey shirts because they were so oversized.

Never worn: Yo La Tengo (it's got a nasty neckline).

Coincidental to see this thread now. I just turned 41, and I just bought a bunch of band T-Shirts from Newbury Comics in Boston: Beastie Boys; The Ramones; Radiohead (also non-band T-Shirts for The Big Lebowski and The Joker). And I want a bunch more from more modern bands, but I chose from what they had at the store. I am probably too old to wear them. It's probably midlife crisis, but if it is, it's a mild one.
