I am almost 36 years old. Do I have any business wearing skinny jeans with boots like all the American U girls are sporting?

quincie, Monday, 2 November 2009 21:12 (fifteen years ago)

sure imo

call all destroyer, Monday, 2 November 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

i am 34 and i do without feeling bad/weird about it

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:15 (fifteen years ago)

Absolutely. I have no doubt that you could pull this off.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

as long as you are skinny enough for the skinny jeans i say go for it. awesome rock chicks were wearing them long before stupid college girls anyway.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:16 (fifteen years ago)

^^ that.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:18 (fifteen years ago)

OK so I feel really creepy now but I just checked Q's facebook cause I was sure I'd seen a pic of your there before and it only confirmed my belief that you not only can but should rock the skinny jeans/boots combo.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

Are we FB friends, E? 'Cause if not we should be! And Tehresa and everyone else on ILS.

Here is the thing--I am tall and thinish but with Michelle Obama hips. Somehow the boots seem to balance out the hips (would not wear skinny jeans without boots iirc), so I think it is OK but I don't want to be the thirty-something-trying-to-look-younger-and-only-looking-kinda-pathetic lady.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

No, we're not but I will add you now!

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 15:30 (fifteen years ago)

what are michelle obama hips?

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

also what kind of boots?

anyway, i'm sure you look awesome.

e can you suggest friend to me i don't know quincie's real name!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

i need a reality check: is it ever really okay to wear a matte red lipstick in daylight? i love it but i think it's too fancy/too clowny.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

Will do!

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

I love matte red lipstick, day or night. As long as you're not also sporting tons of eye makeup or blush, I say go for it!

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

The boots are brown riding stylee boots--low heel. Michelle Obama and I are built similarly--small waists, "womanly" hips. I tend to look good in the things she looks good in--sleeveless dresses with cinched waists and A-line skirts.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

lucky you!!! do you have her biceps, too?

i just worry about the lipstick so i wear it like once every few months and then i feel silly. also the only ppl in seattle who wear makeup are either girls with fratty boyfriends or like, rockabilly and i am neither of those.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Seattle girls are BOOOOORING iirc although if I had to wake up in the rain 900 days a year I might think twice about wearing a skirt & heels too, I guess.

Lip it up!!

Never feel bad about being overdressed, as long as you're still comfortable enough to enjoy normal stuff like walking & sitting down & potentially eating a meal.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:17 (fifteen years ago)

and when not sun it is usually greyish with peaking sun and only rains sporatically and lightly. but anyway grey enhances the green of the trees so <3

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

That's what I think! But um yeah you can laugh at me in a couple of weeks when I'm all skirted & stuff in your fair city.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

ok quincie definitely you can wear skinny jeans!!!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

lol right?! She's crazy for even asking.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:21 (fifteen years ago)

Cool thanks! I once wore a few kinda trendyish things and Mr. Que called me out--he's like "you're dressed like you're 23" and I'm all indignant and say "I can pull it off!" and he's all "UH."

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

also those pics make me all 'i am so jealous of quincie's life'. you look like you always having fun!!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

i don't know if it's okay but i do this regularly. i never really want to be wearing another kind of lipstick. i don't think it's clowny but i guess it might read too evening. don't really think it necessarily reads rockabilly.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

also i <3 your display name

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

Lots of fun, and also lots of BO-RING (thats the part that doesn't get photographed).

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:26 (fifteen years ago)

The only lipstick I am wary of is frosty--a little shimmer is OK, but when in doubt go matte.

I'm also not crazy about really shiny lipgloss, which just looks like you've been eating fried chicken n' ribs after a certain age.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

how does mr que dress

Bobby Wo (max), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

i would guess, in a train conductors uniform

Bobby Wo (max), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

im not sure why i just think it would suit him

Bobby Wo (max), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

oh gosh i never wear frosty!! and i'm scared of shimmer!

my compromise is the dior addict gloss - it is brighter red but a little bit sheer and shiny so it's not matte RED but also it wears off super fast :(

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

mr. que looks nothing like i imagined!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago)

Mr Que *should* dress in a seersucker suit. I have been trying to get him into one for ages.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:30 (fifteen years ago)

I've missed ILS! Let's bring it back. Although I can't afford to do any shopping right now, and I think for this winter I'm going to make a bunch of trapeze dresses and wear them w turtlenecks underneath.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

What did you imagine Mr. Que looked like? I find him quite dashing.

I really loved that fall fashion thread a couple of years back; tried to revive it but failed ;___;

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

yes, let's!!! i can't shop, either, but i can lust after beautiful dresses.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:33 (fifteen years ago)

E I don't see why you couldn't pull off red lipstick??? You have the bestest lips!

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

Aw thanks but they're sorta big and I feel like red lipstick would make me look like a clown!

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:36 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe I need to try a dark matte red for fall. I used to wear that sort of thing years ago and it wouldn't be as bright.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah maybe you'd like more of a brick red than a true red. For brick red I swear by MAC Viva Glam 1. It is matte and wears really well. Also 100% of proceeds go for HIV/AIDS research!

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago)

Hey, fat girls can rock skinny jeans, too, fyi.

Hmmmm. I think I have (but forgot about until just now) Viva Glam. I will have to check when I get home but I'm pretty sure that do. I have one that is a really deep read and it's def one of the VG ones so that's prob it. Will have to wait until my lips heal though. Matte lipstick and chapped lips def not a good combo.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

err deep red not read

I'm not so sure I'm with you on the fat girls/skinny jeans combo. I generally tend to think that it only looks good on very thin ppl. Straight leg jeans are another story but I'm talking about tight skinny jeans.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:48 (fifteen years ago)

I'm a fat girl and I love skinny jeans. Okay I'm not really fat but I have giant cheesecake thighs (interpret that as you wish) that are mega-hard to fit into pants. But nothing else is tapered enough, b/c if I buy jeans that aren't tight on my thighs, the bottoms are always like bells.

So low-skinnies it is. They end up looking kind of like the cigarette pants of formal wear, but because the fabric has so much more body than, say, silk shantung, it's okay that you're putting force on the seams. You can wear 'em really tight and the denim helps control the curves.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

NNNOOOOO ENBB MY MOUSE-FINGER JUST SLIPPED AND I SB'ED YOU! I will write to a mod immediately.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't think I could pull it off either, but I tried a pair on and loved them and bought them and now I love them and wear them all the time and I'm like fat for real (18/20W). They are... what are they, Amanda? Pencil jeans? as opposed to the straight up art school hipster super skinny jeans, so maybe that makes a difference. But it can be done!

I guess my point is that if I only dressed according to Fashion Rules for Fatties, I'd be doomed to a life of vertically striped baby doll tunics and elastic waist knit pants.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I despise boot-cut pants and that's all the magazines want me to wear, you know, to "balance out" my unacceptably enormous ass area. Sorry, but you can keep your BS fashion advice and ship mah fooking jeans, okay?

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

i will admit to owning some skinny jeans but i've been hesitant to wear them lately. mostly bc it makes me feel out of balance since i am a lot more top heavy.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 17:58 (fifteen years ago)

mr. que looks nothing like i imagined!

Huh, he looks almost exactly like I imagined. (Erm, sorry, carry on.)

jaymc, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, I thought they would make me look like a giant ice cream cone, but seriously, I tried on a pair on a whim and it was definitely an OMG moment in the dressing room. It helps that they generally fit well everywhere else, too, even though they are a little more low-rise than I would prefer (my sartorial concession to being old is that I prefer to avoid really low rise jeans).

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

See, I think this generally fit well everywhere else, too is pretty key.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

oh i like the higher waisted ones! i hate low rise things so much!!!

but i would also wear corsets if it were not uncomfortable/goth/horribly dated.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

You can always split the diff and wear reinvented girdles, but they're really only worth it under something wasp-waisted.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

i love belted waists, too. i have this wide belt that i like to wear w/ an a-line skirt sometimes <3
but i never have anywhere to dress up for anymore!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:08 (fifteen years ago)

See, I think this generally fit well everywhere else, too is pretty key.

Totally. But that's a function clothing fit and not body size.

xp oh god they are selling a corset-looking girdle garment in Walgreens now! It has some kind of a clever name, and is probably an "As Seen on TV" thing. I was in a hurry or I would have investigated further.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

oh see i don't want one of those. i want a beautiful, pretty corset.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

Outside of possible use as a Halloween costume component, I can't imagine that anybody would want one. It lacks of loveliness of a proper corset and, just a guess but come on, the functionality of a real girdle.

On a completely different note, why are suits always black, gray, or navy. Or if they are an actually color, why do they look cheesy?

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

I'm talking womens suits, btw, which is my preferred cool-weather uniform.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

i hate suit pants!
they are always pleated or cut to make your ass look dumpy.
hate.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:23 (fifteen years ago)

None of mine are pleated! But maybe they do make my ass look dumpy :(

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

But I hate those straight-cut just-above-the-knee-length skirts that tend to be part of the suit thing. The very definition of dowdy looking iirc

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

my favorite suit is a grey tweed from h&m. it has a skirt with a little fishtail just below the knee and a belted jacket. i just wish the jacket was a little longer.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

I really wish there was a Jos. A. Banks type shop for women's suits, where you can go in person to try on and mix and match different suiting styles with an in-store tailor and they will keep a little card with your measurements and everything.

I can pull off straight-suit skirts by they ALWAYS need serious tailoring, especially if they aren't coming from a plus-sized focused retailer (and if they are, that means they are made not of quality wool suiting fabrics but of soul-crushing poly nonsense) and it's a huge pain in the ass. My special needs are are suit jackets, since it's hard to find one that accommodates my big boobs while nipping in enough in the waist to show off my shape. Between the lack of shaping and the shoulder pads, suit jackets just make me look like a giant, professional cinderblock. I usually get around that by going the twin-set route, but it's so easy to be dowdy if I'm not careful.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

Were I to win the lottery the first thing I would do is get some bespoke suits for realz.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

mmmmm

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

and yeah, the boobs + waist thing is the biggest pain in the ass everrrrrrrr. my boobs are shrinking :( but not enough to make that kind of difference yet.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:33 (fifteen years ago)

For me it is the hip-to-waist ratio that is infuriating and also requires endless tailoring.

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:34 (fifteen years ago)

But I hate those straight-cut just-above-the-knee-length skirts that tend to be part of the suit thing. The very definition of dowdy looking iirc

Haha these skirts are my life. I love them. But if you have a suit like this already and you don't like it, or you want to try again, try adjusting the length for your proportions. Either have it taken up to be a little fresher, or either let it down, if there's enough hem allowance, or add length with a contrast ribbon or decorative pleated ruffle or something. You should be able to get a good 2.5 inches or so from something like that.

If you have a good tailor and can do more than minor alterations, have it tapered more along the side seams so it's a pencil skirt-fit.

Maybe some of that will help.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

Actually I go for just BELOW the knee because otherwise my knees are sort of pudgy and...dare I say "cute"? And not very grown-up.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:40 (fifteen years ago)

I was actually going the bespoke suit route. I found a bespoke tailor convenient to me and started by having some shirts made, figuring that I would start small and work my way up to a suit (one piece at a time, due to crazy cost). Sadly, I'm just not thrilled with the shirts. I had to really harp on the fact that yes, I am a fat woman but I have a defined waist, and am not interested in hiding my shape and that all I wanted were some shirts that buttoned across the boobs and had shaping through the waist. The third time I went back for a fitting, I got them to acquiesce to putting some darts in the back, but the overall silhouette is still kind of boxy and too big in the waist. I wear the shirts, since I spent my clothing budget on them and they aren't terrible by any means, but I was just frustrated by the whole experience. Maybe I wanted too much, I don't know, but if I do go back down the bespoke road, I'm going to have to shop around for a tailor who specializes in fatties.

she is writing about love (Jenny), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:42 (fifteen years ago)

i hate buying button down shirts for this reason. if i knew how to sew i would just buy the big shirt and then take it in via back darts, but alas, i know nothing of sewing other than replacing buttons.

ms. thighs (tehresa), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't owned a button down shirt in years.

Horseshoe thanks for the red lipstick vote of confidence. Gonna try to find that Viva Glam and give it a whirl later tongiht.

this sucks, Jenny! there have to be tailors around who can do this for you. it sucks that you already blew some money, but i think you should keep looking if you have the energy.

horseshoe, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

I gave up on button downs as well. Along with the unflattering shape thing, I'm so long through the torso that I could not keep the damned things tucked in. I now refuse to tuck (I wear tshirts under my suits lol).

quincie, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

I probably will, horseshoe, but after the holidays. It can be a project to get me through the winter!

i'm not a very hairy dude, it doesn't really grow out much more than that i don't think. i'm going to shave today but i might decide let it grow back out again later, if i do i'll just let it go all out and see what happens

sorry jenny. i think i basically have to shave due to my aforementioned shaving accident.

TGAAPQ (Mr. Que), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

There are so many varietals of skinny jeans though. Sometimes I get what I think are skinny jeans, and they end up kind of baggy because they have so much stretch. Then there are the kinds that are so tight and stretchy they are almost like wearing tights or leggings out of jean material. I think you basically have to wear skinny-ish jeans with tall boots though, yes? Otherwise you get major bunchiness around the knees. Mr. Q, why are you being a hater? My sister always tries to tell me I am dressing too young for my age; it is infuriating.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:17 (fifteen years ago)

I wear my jeans short. I like them at the ankle-bone or above, and I hate tucking jeans into boots. It's just not for me. But take my word for it, there are ways, secret ways, that involve neither bunching nor boots.

I would feel confident if I dated her because I am older than (Laurel), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

i also like short jeans because i think one of my most attractive features are my slender ankles. but i am built sort of boyishly, so i have to appreciate the little curvature i have.

anyway, i think only fullbearded men should have beards b/c otherwise it looks scanty
shave it

oh and for the record, i like skinny (tapered) jeans, i tuck them into boots, i am 34 and anyone who doesn't like it can go eat a peach

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:36 (fifteen years ago)

well you would have been pleased by my dress had you attended this show, then. all i meant was that i wear clothes that make me happy/feel good/etc and if that occasionally looks like i'm wearing a costume then so be it. do not care.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:51 (fifteen years ago)

i am wearing skinny jeans right now but they are ones that i refuse to wear out of the house until i lose like 5-10 more lbs bc the stupid girl at the store told me they were gonna stretch a lot and the size up fit such that if they stretched any more, they'd look stupid, so i bought the size down, which has... not stretched. good motivation, but frustrating for getting dressed. and also they probably look stupid but they have zippers by the ankles!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Friday, 6 November 2009 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

In some ways though it's great because you can hold off for a while and then go on a shopping spree and delight in your new much smaller clothes. That's what I did anyway. I guess it was sort of a reward to myself.

Do the secret ways (of preventing bunching) involve tucking your jeans into your socks? I seem to recall doing this in high school (when weating boots).

Haha oh no. I just don't wear jeans longer than my ankles. Also, I jam them down over the tops of my motorcycle books, I like that look. Or I cuff 'em. Or both. But never wear them long.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 9 November 2009 16:33 (fifteen years ago)

hi guys :)
i love skinny jeans and pants with boots. i have other jeans and pants but have been slowly purging them from my warddrobe. i think my true style might be: variations on a uniform. with that uniform these days being skinny jeans/pants and longish tshirts and some kinda jacket or cardigan or hoodie, maybe with a belt on it.

reality check today: probably weird to leave the house wearing three layers of belt - one on pants, one around sweater, one around jacket - removed one around sweater. i have somehow accumulated a lot of belts!

also 3 pairs of my boots are broken in 3 different ways :/ need to take to grumpy boot fixing guy

paragon of incalescence (rrrobyn), Friday, 20 November 2009 02:44 (fifteen years ago)

i have never managed to work the skinny jeans + boots look.. so so hard to find a decent pair of tall boots, esp in my size. i guess the cuffed jeans + short boots suits me better.

ooh, i did that once at a rather pricey salon and ended up with some kind of spiky newscaster hair. i got home, realized i couldn't style it to not look awful (to me, at least), called up the place and i guess i got so angry over the phone they sort of ordered me to never come back? so i went back anyway and the owner was a total bitch. went to the hair cuttery to have it chopped off to be somewhat presentable. i'm STILL pissed, and this happened five years ago...

yeah, whatever (daria-g), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:38 (fifteen years ago)

guys seriously i don't know what's gotten into me i have crazy hair and i bought skinny black pants yesterday because the h&m mirrors are trick make you look hot mirrors. i need a girl friend or gay boyfriend to shop with who will stop me from this kind of stuff.

tehresa, Sunday, 22 November 2009 22:50 (fifteen years ago)

Huh,the h&m mirrors in Chicago have a magical quality that makes me look extremely blobby and wan. I've not bought things because the mirrors make me feel so ugs.

How do we feel about cute fashion shorts with tights? I have two pair that I really like but I'm pretty sure no one else I know would wear them. That's never stopped me before buuuut...

See, I think it's an ok look for me. I would never ever wear them to work, but out to dinner or for the evening I think they're cute!

I'm not deterred, but I do feel like I need a reality check.

Am I delusional to think that this is an ok look for me?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 23 November 2009 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

Well I hear you have nice legs, so....

WHY DON'T YOU JUST LICK THE BUS DIRECTLY (Laurel), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago)

ehh i don't think wearing shorts with tights and boots is any different from subbing out the shorts with a mini skirt. i've see ladies rockin that look, with kind of 'dressy' shorts, i.e. they look like they're made from the same material as a suit, have little tabs and buttons and cuffs.

DAN P3RRY MAD AT GRANDMA (just1n3), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

DAN P3RRY MAD AT GRANDMA (just1n3), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:02 (fifteen years ago)

If you have skinny legs that don't touch each other, at least you won't have the up-your-arse problem. But I can't get on board with the look at all. To me it signifies "a kind of person I don't/won't like", which I realize I am a cranky old bat but there you go.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

I'm wearing jeans right now. There's no dress code here, and in the summer I've seen a couple guys wear shorts. But most people tend to do business-casual by default, so I generally try not to look too slovenly in comparison. Like, I feel a little self-conscious wearing band t-shirts sometimes. The guy in the cubicle next to me often has on a wacky t-shirt, but he wears a long-sleeved shirt (with the buttons open) over it.

salsa sharkshavin (salsa shark), Monday, 23 November 2009 16:56 (fifteen years ago)

I did the shorts w/tights and boots thing when I was in high school - when I was thinner - and they were dressier shorts - so I have a certain nostalgia for that look, though there's no way I could pull that off now.

I'm sorry Laurel - but my favorite pair were plaid, but they were cut more like a skirt.

sarahel, Monday, 23 November 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i have a certain nostalgia for that look too -- i think i must be willfully ignoring something because i have yet to think of a good reason (other than repeated admonitions on this thread) not to wear them

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 23 November 2009 18:52 (fifteen years ago)

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Monday, 23 November 2009 18:53 (fifteen years ago)

yeah - if they don't cause crotch-bunching or ass-riding, I think it could be cute.

sarahel, Monday, 23 November 2009 19:00 (fifteen years ago)

i like the the j crew shorts + tights look posted above. don't think i could wear it though. they'd be too short on me

i also think part of this trend is.. stylists at a lot of stores & a lot of fashion bloggers figuring out that you can make just about whatever top look good if you put it on a model who is wearing either leggings, short shorts, or a very short skirt.

i don't really see the difference between these ^^^ and a miniskirt aside from general peace of mind that no one is looking up your skirt.

what i find hilarious about this whole thing is that i really relish the feeling that i wear whatever i want so even if you all had been like "eeehhhh no way" i would still wear my shorts, maybe even with more gusto than before.

i have this thing to go to, and am trying to put together an outfit. i have a black knit dress, sort of an empire waist, above the knee, and i'm gonna wear it with a black cardigan and jewelry that is mostly brown - so is it ok to wear kneehigh brown boots? they're a darkish brown, cuban heel. it looks fine to me, with the brown jewelry, but maybe it actually looks weird?? the only brown cardi i have is kind of scruffy.

DAN P3RRY MAD AT GRANDMA (just1n3), Thursday, 26 November 2009 05:37 (fifteen years ago)
