2) Long have scholars and hippies pondered the origins of Rockism, trying to lay a finger on when it began, who set it in motion. There is one school of thought that places the genesis somewhere around the mid 20th century. Elvis, The Beatles, and similar pop icons were rising to power, breaking preconceptions and pushing envelopes. However this is merely a casual observation of Rockism's more recent renaissance, and does not touch on the true nature of Rockism -- it's core if you will -- which has been in existence far longer than history books accurately record.

2) This question caught me off guard, am I in school now? No pain no gain I guess. Ok, Rockism was formed around the 1970-80s by the British media and it is founded on the idea that some artists are more "true" or "authentic" than another band. Rockism is against the technological editing of music like synths and various computer based programs. Rockism believers feel that the music should come from the artists art and not from their hard drive. Rockism is founded, more or less, on the idea that less is more. The less of a computer you have in your music, the more or your soul people hear.

4) Hm...I'm not a fan of either really, but Deerhoof definietely piques me more because of their experimental styles and offbeat song structures. I'm into the more offbeat stuff so I relate to it more, I've been listening to crap like Mr. Bungle for ages, so I can take some weird stuff, Deerhoof is quite normal to me. I'm not forgetting Sufjan, of course. He's a very talented artist and he's had some wonderful songs I really enjoy listening to, "Feel The Illinoise" is a song I keep finding myself coming back to, but I really like some of these experimental outside the box guys. It's just like a breath of fresh air to a stale music world, that goes for the former and the latter.

2) I have never heard of 'rockism' before so I fired up Google and did some research. It seems that rockism is musical "racism". It is the belief that certain genres of music are crap and worthless when compared to other genres. Bands that write and perform their own music are more valued than those "cookie cutter" artist who are churned out daily by the music industry. It has also been used to describe what's "wrong" with the music industry today. It reminds me of being in 8th grade and arguing about which band is better than the other. I mean, if you like it, listen to it. Don't let other people dictate what is "good" and what isn't.

4) I have never heard Sufjan Stevens or Deerhoof. I honestly can't say which artist is better. I could try to fake it, but anyone who knows these artists would see right through it. I hope my invite doesn't hinge on the music I listen to. I am sure both artists have their pros and cons. Also I'm sure that their fans will argue for hours about who is better. If I were to get an invite, perhaps I would download both artists and give them a listen. Then I would be able to give an honest opinion.

2) Rockism is a form of musical favoritism. The idea that rock was done "right" in the 1970s helps form society's view on all new music. Some would feel that the rules defining rockism is found by taking the current societies feelings towards "good" rock music and judging future releases off that. Others would feel that the original founders of rock had set in stone the rules for all the current and future releases in its genre. I personally feel rockism can evolve as we discover new musical phenomenas, but still must stick close to its founded roots.

4) My musical tastes are very unique and unfortunately I have not heard either artists' music. To try to compensate for this I searched the web for their music to hear the differences. Here are my findings: I would have to say that both artists are good at what they do. It sounds like Sufjan has great control over his voice and uses this as his strength. Many times artists don't have the greatest voices so they try to cover it up with louder instruments. As for Deerhoof, I feel the band has a great musical ability in their percussion. If I had to choose one over the other I would have to go with Sufjan Stevens for his superior vocal abilities!

2) Rockism is the idea that music should be made buy the artists its performed by. Its against processed pop. Generally most suggest that the high point of popular music was the the late 60's early 70's.

It has been linked to racism. Though that idea is crap.

While i think that the purpose behind rockism is pure, it limits the music you listen to. While music made by an "artist" rather than manufactured "pop" music, sometimes its fun to listen to pop music. Its really just music thats easy to process.

4) Deerhoof, though i like both. Sufjan Stevens Generally does good stuff, though the Christmas album, i didn't like to much. The Christian ideas in his songs tend to put me off cause I'm atheist, but i try not to let that get to me. Deerhoof is goofy music that tends to put me in a good mood. Apple O', Milk Man, and Reveille are my favorite Deerhoof albums. Seven Swans and Illinoise are my favorite Sufjan Stevens Albums. Though i should add I think Sufjan Stevens is a better musician. But thats all that counts.

4) Well,to start things off I only know the work of Sufjan Stevens so my vote goes to him. Still, from what I found about Deerhoof and listened at www.pandora.com I can say it pleases me. Stevens routinely ditches folk's scrappy, stripped-down aesthetics, but consistently embraces its stories-of-the-people unanimity. His vocals could be easily (perhaps accurately) read as precious, but they're really more intimate than emo. My favourite Stevens' album is the epic Illinois, where he plays an ambitious musical map of the Unites States of America. Deerhoof has a mixed noise, sugary melodies, and an experimental spirit into sweetly challenging and utterly distinctive music. Their lyrics are heavily-accented by Satomi Matsuzaki's little-girl voice. The more song-like Deerhoof's music gets, the more obviously she becomes a barrier to new fans.

I believe defhoof is better because its noise-pop and whimsical, playful, brutal music has a wide variaty of songs that everyone loves. They also have influenced alot of music. Defhook is a unique band that many have never heard but good sounding. Nothing can prepare you for the first time you hear one of their records. If you love music you will love Deerhoof. Everyone likes defhook and if you haven't heard of them listen to them once and you'll be hooked. His vocals are what everyone loves and they are overall just a good band.

2) rockism is the idea of making music through the musician their own creative freedom, rather than through pre-packaged music created by labels or merely for the pop of it. basically, music made for the music, and not to make a quick buck. there is argument that no music is purely made without any commercial thought processes behind it, and that all music has some form of produced aspect to it. but basically the term is for bands that don't go with synthesizers and pro tools to hype up their music, rather they perform on the instruments themselves as well as the lyrics, the band being a huge part of the creation of the music. the term is more for rock or metal bands, which is where the actual term came from. I believe the term also began to be in use in britain, where people began preferring this over pop music. think of rock bands in the 80s, and you'd get a good idea of what this whole movement is. pop music is the opposite of this.

4) Hmm, I like both. Deerhoof has this continual beat that makes you want to nod along to it. It actually reminds me of an art exhibit I attented a couple of years ago called "Cloud City" by FriendsWithYou, where they had this background music to set an installatio they considered a playgound. I am a sucker for the guitar though, and Sufjan Stevens is a lot like the music I listen to. It's much mellower, and his voice compliments the music beautifully. Ultimately, I would probably go with Sufjan Stevens on a day where I'm being told I can only pick from these two artists. Then again, I could definitely find myself listening to Deerhoof on days where I need to vacuum the house. I'm not sure... I guess I can't decide really. They both have their themes and sounds that make them the artists they are. I can really get into the fact that they both have their own sound, and it doesn't quite remind me of other artists today- unless we're going to mix bands together to get their sound.

2) Rockism to me is an outlook on music that covers a number of subjects. I would say rockism is definitely based on the principle that originality is not just nonconformity. Far too many artists try to follow a “formula” that’s been established by artists that have already achieved fame and/or success. These pretender bands may still achieve success, but in the eyes of a rock purist these artists are seen for what they really are – impersonators and frauds. A true follower of rockism also has their own taste in music and does not just follow the crowd. A rockist knows what they like, they stick to the genera that most interests them, and in most cases they criticize music that is outside their genera. A rockist appreciates bands that write their own songs, singers that can actually sing (not lip-sync), and members who can actually play their instruments (and not rely on ghost players). A rockist goes to the concerts, buys the cds, and actually also listens to the non-radio songs. Rockism is still alive and well, although blatant conformity and mainstreamism seems to drown out the rockist ideology.

4) I’d have to say that I prefer the music of Sufjan Stevens. Being from Michigan (where Sufjan is from) I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him play live and it was an amazing experience. His music is very versatile, spanning from electronic to folk music. I can honestly say I haven’t heard Deerhoof as much as Sufjan Stevens. I’m not all that strict when it comes to song structure, but Deerhoof’s music seems to me to be too experimental for my tastes. It seems to me that Sufjan’s studies in music make him the better artist, while most of the artists in Deerhoof have had little formal training. As far as Sufjan goes, I could do without the Christmas album, as well as the idea of the 50 state project (although I have to admit I love the Michigan and Illinois albums). From what I have heard from Deerhoof, it just seems too improvised and unpolished. Of the two, I definitely prefer Sufjan although I do plan on checking out the new album & EP by Deerhoof.

Having your opinions about music that makes it your own. The term came from rockist which is like being rock not listening to it. Usually anti-rockism is violently pro-pop. Its the critisism of music in a way of you listen to it and no one can take it away from you. Being music and opposing others.

Im going to have to say deerhoof because everyone can like this music. Her voice is a little different but more rockerish rather than Sufjan Stevens whos music is more softer and emoish. More guitar and different than everyone else because of her voice. Music seems more of a red hot chillie peppers with a different voice. It also has louder music and doesn't make you as depressed as much. Its almost as if you could use deerhoof as party music but you couldn't for Sufjan Stevens. Also has a good rythem instead of slow soft voice with a fade beat. Has a faster tempo, better rythem, and not as emotion rock.

Rockism is the view that rock is music in its purist form. Everything else is built off the base of rock and roll, using it as a starting point on which to evolve. In a sense, the comparison of all other forms of music to Rock and Roll could be called rockism. It originated in the 60’s and 70’s through the British music media, by writers for magazines like ‘Rolling Stone’. Penning stories about the pioneers of rock, like the Stones and Beatles, these writers set the scene for generations to come. Through their writing, they created a kind of ‘Renaissance of Rock’, and as such the idea of rockism. All forms of music can now be compared to this ‘Renaissance’. Rockism exists in everyone who knows any thing about rock and roll, and helps define what our individual musical tastes are based on. Having not being exposed to a great deal of Deerhoof, I find it difficult to compare the two artists. But then again the question is who I like better, so my answer is Sufjan Stevens, and I can explain why that is. There is no one word to describe Sufjan Steven music. He can pump out a true indie rock track like “Man of Metropolis”, then contrast it with the bare acoustics and truly haunting vocals of a song like “Casimir Pulaski Day”. He is one of the few artists who could sing a track acapella, and have it sound just as good as if it had been accompanied by one of his faultless orchestral compositions. Who else could find an additive place for an accordion? Sufjan Stevens manages to cover all bases, and I would find I truly impossible for someone to not find one of his tracks which they enjoy. Illinois is one of my favourite albums of all time, and I can always count on a Sufjan tune to act as a soundtrack to my life. Bring on state number three.

They both dont fit my style. So its hard to make a decision. But what I read so long about these both, I would give deerhoof the point because they seem to be more experimental and thats what I like. In my opinion u cant tell so clear who is the better artist ( i dont even have heard a song of them ). So what i read about Sufjan Stevens bored me because he makes Indie Rock and thats not really my partiality. In searched a bit for Deerhoof after i got this Question from you and they sound interesting so I get an first impression. After this, I was sure that I never heard such a mixture of different styles combined with this asian voice. All this gives a interesting mix that I like.
I listened to Sufjan stevens too, but for me he doenst make anything special at all so I vote for Deerhoof.

2) What is rockism? It is the idea, from Britian, that suggest what rock music should be. Anything from the instruments, which include bass, guitar, and drums to how the singer acts. It's against videos because they take away from the feel of the real thing. It is also against pop music and the lip syncing that comes with it. Rockism is about the artist and their own writings. It's about the feeling you can get from that band and only that band. Rockism really came about with the 80's rock bands. However it's still in effect and greatly followed.

However her voice is really nice, and goes well with the music. Sufjan is just really laid back music and relaxing. Something that I just sit and listen and daze off to. I think one of the reasons I'm more into Sufjan is because he reminds me of one of my favorite bands Iron and Wine. Just easy listening with good lyrics, always wins me over.

4)In my opinion Deerhoof makes music that is more interesting to me. Deerhoof's odd little girl style vocals just give the music such a unique feel. Deerhoof is also known to create some very unique sounds with the guitar that I may hear other places, but they never seem to be executed so well. The drums on Deerhoof's albums also never cease to be nothing short of syncopated genius. Sufjan uses a lot of nice varied instrumentation but something about the music just doesn't grasp me, like I feel that it needs to in order for me to appreciate it more than Deerhoof. The voice to me is a big problem. I feel like I have heard it so many times before, although the context in which it is used is very different. They are both great but Deerhoof is to unique and too well constructed for me to ignore.

In my opinion, Sufjan Stevens is better then Deerhoof. For one, I find that Satomi Matsuzak sounds too high and “child-like” for my liking. Sufjan Stevens on the other hand is a signer/songwriter, which means he’s doing twice as much as some other music people do. Although some of his songs contain Christian messages, which I tend to stay away from, I still find it more of a listening pleasure then Deerhoof. Sufjan Stevens’s conceptual idea of 50 albums for 50 states is a great one. If completed, there would be many more Sufjan Stevens albums then Deerhoof albums, which means more songs to listen to. That’s a good thing because everyone knows more is better, especially when it comes to a music collection. If I had to put money down on it, I would throw down $100 on Sufjan Stevens for the win, or possibly just to place. Either way, it would be a better outcome then Deefhoofs.

2)Rockism is a post modern term used to describe a way in which some people critically analyze music. It originated in the 80's after the so called "golden age of rock". It is usually used to describe an idealistic or perhaps romantic notion of what rock music should be in it's purest form. It's holding a particular piece as the ultimate pinnacle of what that genre should aspire to be and then comparing any aspect of it's structure and make up with something else, usually a more modern piece thats currently in the charts. It doesn't really matter how different it is in style or even genre because it's being held against a particular set of cardinal standards determined by the critic. Sometimes it's used in a slightly less broad sense to describe music that was 'meaningful', 'written with a timeless quality' or 'made to last through the ages.' It isn't always used to describe the music and band themselves but also the entire culture that surrounds it including fashion, politics and beliefs. Some would see it as an obnoxious or snobbish way of reviewing music, perhaps destined to wear out as music branches further away from what the popular idea of good rock music is. Wow, I sounded like a bit of an arse reading all that back. Oh well. :)

4) This ones going to be harder. I've only ever ever heard one album by each artist and it's tough to beat 'Illious' by any stretch. Personally from what i've heard i'd say Surjan Stevens is the more likable artist. It's perhaps unjust to call him "better", but I think he's more accessible. Deerhoof's music is more experimental and un-predictable from what i've listened to. I liked his style but I didn't think it was as brilliant as Illinos, which is probably a masterpiece. Steven's music has an honesty and a feeling like your listening to something really well crafted. His music's quirky oddness feels more natural than Deerhoof's.
I think both artists require more than one listen to fully appreciate. Maybe sometime i'll give Deerhoof another go.

4) Deerhoof is the better band. Mr. Stevens rehashes old folk song styles and a tired sound. Deerhoof is one of those band that progresses, you pick up a Deerhoof album and it might take a while for you to get into it. But, once you do, you're loving it. Sufjan, I don't see anything special in his music. Deerhoof is a band that has a unique sound for our generation, people will look back in 20 years and see Deerhoof albums as generation landmarks. 2) I think that rockism is a bit of a loaded word, depending on your musical taste. Generally, it is the ideal that gross sales don't justify liking a particular song or band, but that a band should be judged by the "truth" in their music. When this term gained popularity it was closely associated to 1970s-80s classic rock, and therefore associated simply with music that consisted of guitar, bass, drums (and being grossly appalled at anything produced synthetically. However, the real meaning behind it has really been transposed into other genres of music since this meaning follows with the general nature of people. This being the typical "sell out" comments or the satisfaction one gets from saying "that band was good, before they got popular". This is the general attitude of many people, and they will often not listen to a band because they are popular. This attitude is present across genres, whether it be rap, emo, alt rock, you name it. I do believe that some bands simply ride their initial popularity, and i think that the term rockism discriminates against them, as it should. However, it should also be important to realize that each person should listen to the music first and decide for themselves whether they like it or not.

4) I don't think anyone can win an argument saying either is better. I particularly enjoy Stevens better. I admire how they both pursued the same ideals in their music. Yet they both pursue this in different ways and with a different understanding of music to begin with. Sufjan was introduced to music in a very formal way, and i think that his music shows this clearly. Even though he is pushing for innovation in music through his songs, it still has a structured feel. Deerhoof on the other hand, seems to have a raw unfinished nature about it. Their music is a lot more focused on the clashes between the different elements in their music. I think this differs from Stevens' music in that his seems to focus on having smooth transitions between elements in songs.

I was curious as to what Wikipedia offered on the definition of rockism, so I looked it up, and I strongly disagree with the one they offered. According to their definition, the existence of the phrase itself is a paradox. I believe that rockism doesn't necessarily have to conform to the standards of being "rock'n'roll" or even "authentic". I mean, all the genres of music had to start with some basic form of music, then evolved into what they are now, right? You can play funk in an electronic band, and as long is you get the audience to shake their bodies or nod their heads, I believe that you have achieved a certain authenticity. Of course, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.

Before Deerhoof came up with Reveille, Sufjan Stevens. After Reveille, Deerhoof, for sure. I don't know, just a matter of taste, I guess. If I were in my teens but in this day and age, I would probably go with Deerhoof 100%. Besides I have a thing for bands with crazy Japanese lead singers. Apple O' just sealed the deal for me since the transformation of the band became really sonically visible. Of course it started from Reveille, but Apple O' for me showed the maturity of the soundscape they were able to produce. Sufjan Stevens, to me at least, sounds like he just recycles his style (with a little bit of spunk here and there) each album.

Well the short and uncreative answer is neither. However I can only guess that you want my opinon and I will have to safely say that it depends on the day for me, even the hour. I am graduate student in biochemistry and wear wireless headphones while I work in a laboratory. Therefore I would say that Sufjan Stevens is more suited to small detail work such as setting up reactions. Conversely Deerhoof is a little higher energy and is "better" for higher energy activites like washing glassware.

Sufjan Stevens, He is known for his lyrically focused and instrumentally songs in genres mostly on Folk, Indie rock, Experimental. His songs are on the soothing side where it brings calm and sensual on ones ears. Deerhoof, was formed in 1994. They are known in genres on Pop Rock music, Noise Rock, Alternative Rock, Musical improvisation. With the high funky vocal notes of japan mix styles, it brings the groove that able to tap my feet along. For me, im into the upbeats of groove and funk, im in for Deerhoof.

I'm going to go with Deerhoof on this one. I find them significantly more engaging live and Apple O' maintains a place in my top twenty-five albums of all time, particularly on a warm, sunny summer afternoon.
However, I'd certainly question how you can simply state that one artist is 'better' than another. I think this question needs a little more clarification. I mean, Sufjan would probably beat Satomi in a wrestling match, but she'd be totally better than him at yelping and maybe even fishing. However, if Sufjan were to join Deerhoof, then the united forces of these two behemoths of alternative music would surely be immense to the point of causing upset to infants. Similarly, if Deerhoof were to play as Sufjan's backing band on his next tour, I can imagine 'Casimir Pulaski Day' sound quite different. Possibly even better? BETTER AT WHAT?

4) While I enjoy both approximately the same, I sort of prefer the light hearted, whimsical sound of Sufjan's Illinois. For some reason I can also relate to the Christian allusions in Seven Swans. 4)I dind’t know any of the two artists so I checked around on the internet and I heard Sufjan’s “songs for Christmas”.That’s way over the top if you wanna be recognized as an authentic artists in my book. After being exposed to these highly irritating soundtracks, I got on Deerhoof’s myspace. I found their live video’s they posted on there a very good reason to never go and see a live show of them. A very messy and uncontrolled sound must blast from every stage they are performing on and if that’s what people like about them, that’s okay with me but in my opinion they got a long way to go to make it in my collection. The only one I liked was the drummer, he can lay it down but the guitar and vocals are terrible in my opinion. So now I have to choose between two artists I don’t like wich one I like better. Despite the Christmas album I heard, I choose Sufjan Stevens, at least it sounded clean.

Rockism is a controversial concept that developed in the early 1980's. It is hard to for me to come up with a real meaning for a concept but after doing some research I think that rockism could be just another genre to add to the evergrowing list. But also something I would hear the music snobs saying. Due to the certian authenticity that appeals to them. Those same kind of people could be found as the ones saying "They don't even write their own songs!" And claiming they have heard of a band before they were on the OC and just trying to establish theirself as a musical elitist. Some say rockism refers to the more old school rock, like Bruce Springsteen, opposed to the killers. I think it is when you pick up a cd and every single song is good not just the singles with a bunch of shitty fillers. Overall it is hard to describe a concept that pretty much anyone can pick up and put their own spin on it -- so why even have it?

I've gotta say Sufjan Stevens. I gave deerhoof a few listens now and I honestly don't really get it. Upon first listen I caught myself thinking what the heck. The songs are composed well and all the girls voice just kind of annoys me and I cannot tell what she is saying, if those are actual words. But they are interesting and unique I will give them that. Now Sufjan's music is very thought out and I think he is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. His music is relaxing and calming and deerhoof is good I just can't find myself really wanting to listen to.

This must be a trick question since I dont like any of them. Sufjan has never seemed challenging enough. It is beautiful but so is taking a crap. It always seems as if something is missing like there could be something more to it. I think this goes for Deerhoof too. But I dont think any of them can be considered to be the best new acts. I would classify them as mediocre. But if I had to choose I would pick Deerhoof because they have better looks than Sufjan. Something I do like is to write very short sentences.

I understand the term rockism/rockist as being derogatory for people who are really CLASSIC rockers listening to all the CLASSIC rock with no sense about something else, something that is not that mainstream.

I found this few sentences about it:
Was a term used in the late 80s in Britain. It indicated people, who don't listen to experimental music or diverse music, but only like straight ahead rock/metal music hence the term rockist. Someone was rockist if they only listened to hard rock music: AC/DC, Black Crowes, Judas Priest/ Gun/ Tesla/ Guns N Roses/Little Angels/ King Swamp/The Almighty/ Def Leppard etc. And their favoutite music night - was "rock nite" - with long hair/leather jacket/ Guns N Roses patches/ jack daniels/ headbanging/ skinny black jeans - i.e. all the rock clichés - I am not going there, it is too rockist. Let me say right from the start - I don't listen to neither of them. I don't like folk music and I don't like dance music. And as to comparison of these two - I'd say they can't be really compared because they are absolutely different styles of music. I'd be able to say which one is best If I listened to one of them which I don't. Though I'd experiment so I downloaded one song from each. After listening to both of them, I guess I like Deerhoof better because folk music if as far from me as it gets.

It depends ont he context, surely? On one hand, it could mean the verious standards of what a rock-type group should look, sound and act, what makes someone rockist, almost obsessed with what they specifically believe is 'rock', and believing that others' opinions are invariably incorrect. More recently, the term has also come to mean the feelings of revulsion and prejudice towards those of the more rock-based subcultures that are becoming more noticable in society today, in the same vein of racism and the like, often resuting in verbal or physical abuse directed towards those whom are seen as being into non-mainstream dance and the like on a purely appearance-based standard.

Sufjan Stevens is definitely my preferred artist. He has a smooth, relaxing vocal style and a soothing musical folk style that either gives me goosebumps or helps me into a deep sleep, depending on my mood. His lyrical descriptions on 'Michigan' do more than just describe the places he sings about, but make you know what they feel like, both in spirit and in dynamic. I personally felt that Illinois was much weaker, however, and it was showing that attempting a project as ambitious as his '50 States' idea was more than likely a bit of a joke, more than anything.
Thoguh not as experimental or lateral-thinking as Deerhoof, I feel his style is more solid, and shows fewer signs of 'jumping the shark', musically, than they do, also.

Rockism pretty much holds that if you trace back the influences of most modern bands you'll discover the names of the only 10 creative artists to have ever existed, half of which are just different spellings of the name Jimi Hendrix. Rockists are the sorts of people, however, that would Photoshop the CD cover so that Hendrix is 'not quite black'. You could be a Rockist and never listen to a bad song; the 60's alone produced enough awesome music to last you a lifetime. The downside however is that you would miss out on a lot of great music, and would be so ignorant about the music you don't like that you couldn't win an argument against a mute. Rockist's don't own albums produced after the 70's. Rockists don't own haircuts produced after the seventies. Rockists don't own. In conclusion, everyone should know their Floyd, but don't be a cunt about it.

4) Sufjan Stevens. I think they're hard to compare though, as they are trying to accomplish different things. Sufjan's material is mood music, and with it's folk tendencies it's as much about the lyrics as the instrumentals. Deerhoof is much more immediate as it's upbeat and electronic, but while their odd vocals help bring across the playful nature of the music, there's not much lyrical content. I think Sufjan's songs are likely to be around for longer than Deerhoof's, because they are 'songs' in the traditional sense of the word. They are more likely to become part of your life, for instance I could pick up my guitar or uke (the closest thing I have to a banjo) and play one of his songs. I'd have to dig out my old casio keyboard and get my two year old cousin to say 'poopy' occasionally to get anything close to Deerhoof. I have got into stuff that I regard as similar to Deerhoof before (like the Go! Team), but it's not really my thing. Sufjan isn't one of my favourite artists either but I haven't heard anything from him that I don't like.

1.) Not so sure about the question. I have uploaded some albums into a request section of a forum using file hosting services such as rapidshare and megaupload, if that is what you are asking about. Other wise, i downloaded an MC Juice discography recently and I am currently seeding that to about a 5.0 ratio... It's about 400 megs, so its no big deal. Is that the answer you were looking for?

2.) Rockism is the somewhat against modern-age rock, which I believe started around the 70's and 80's. One ideology is that technology tends to ruin the essence of music, and therefore electric guitars and synthesizers, etc. were frowned upon. Rockism states that the artist should be the sole creator of the music and these synthesizers and such detract from the essence of man-made music. Rockism also seems to state that rock is "supreme" genre or the center of music. During the 80's rockism was also seen by many as "anti-pop" music. A connection I can make is to hip hop as well. Rockism believed that "real" music was dying, similarly, many artists claim that "hip hop is dead" meaning that many rappers sold themselves out for money or fame.

4.) I have to give it to Sufjan. I had hear Marzuki live the one time I went to Michigan and couldn't stop listening after that. I feel that he is one of the few talented music artists left as someone had stated before, he produced and recorded most of his songs. I just wish that he did actually go ahead and write an ode to each of the 50 states. That would have been very interesting. About Deerhoof, the first thing I heard about this group was that none of the members had any formal singing training, which I thought was incredible. I still felt that after Halfbird, their music quality sorta went downward, but Sufjan still gets my vote because of what he has achieved alone, as compared to with a group. Sufjan is only going to get bigger but hopefully not too big to the point where he becomes mainstream. Gotta get his box set too sometime.

This created a new kind of music with new flow. Everyone is now trying to "get big" with music, when they need to look back to the roots. Yes, this has created new great music. 4) Sufjan is soo legit. One of my favorite songs of all time is Chicago. He just recently came out with a new Christmas album, and it's pretty good. He is known for his lyrically focused and instrumentally rich songs that often relate to faith and family. Stevens has enjoyed wide critical success in the United States. His music is different then most stuff coming out mainstream right now, and I like that a lot. I've been listening to him since he first started back in 99, and I still do.
